Thank you, Bill Heywatt! And greetings, honored soundcast listener! I am Marc Hershon, your every-other-weekly host, creator, and executive producer of this here Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. Special thanks to my erudite and unflappable alternating host of this show, Tyson Saner. Those who follow this show closely enough – is that you? – might have noticed that we missed dropping an episode a couple weeks ago, then Tyson picked up the slack last week with Epi315, which should have been my episode the preceding week. Following so far? Well, here's what happened. I was traveling for business. Not Succotash business but my day-job business, and I was clipping soundcasts while I was on the road. Listening to shows on planes, editing them in my hotel room,a nd trying to get it all together. Then I got “Delta shitty hand” – our keen-eared listener heard what I did there – and I had a flight cancel on the last leg before home. Not just before home, but before I could return to the Nerd Nest and my precious soundcasting equipment. Short story long, I couldn't get ‘er done in time to make it worth dropping for that week. It was going to be a show devoted to comedy sports soundcasts so I had to shelve that for a future show. And Tyson, bless his heart, reshuffled the show numbers so that in the box score that is the Succotash archives, no one will ever know that I screwed up. And now I owe my colleague one. Cash it in anytime, Tyson! If you happened to miss episode 315, entitled “the 3-Clip Tango”, Tyson featured snippets from a trio of comedy soundcasts which included The Winnebago Boys, Oxventure - A Dungeons & Dragons Podcast, and The Todd Glass Show. It was really a lovely roundup and I'd urge you to jump back a week in our feed and grab yourself an earful. Access that episode from your favorite soundcast dispensary, including – and I'm going to give you a pretty complete rundown here: Apple and Google Podcasts, Stitcher, Amazon Music, Audible, the Android app, Audacy, Blogger, Facebook, Gaana – not even sure what that is, iHeart Radio, the iPhone app, LinkedIn, Player.fm, PodBay, Pod Chaser, Radio Public, Soundcloud, Youtube, and now, after a lengthy boycott but now all is forgiven, back on Spotify. And, of course, every episode we've churned out over the last 11 and a half years can be scooped up in our archives at our homesite: SuccotashShow.com So now that I'm finally back in the saddle, what do I have in store for you for Episode 316, you might ask? Well, my sports comedy soundcast show I might do next time but for THIS week, as teased by Tyson at the end of the last episode, I have a Succotash Chat in store with none other than Blaine Capatch! Blaine is a standup comedian but oh, so much more. He's a writer, a sketch performer, a husband, a father, a son, and a druid. Well, he plays a druid on a soundcast we've featured here a few times over the years: Brian Posehn's Nerd Poker, a wonderfully funny and occasionally insane show where Brian, Blaine, and a clutch of other pals play Dungeons & Dragons. Before we get to the convo, I thought I'd set the stage a bit by playing a clip — since that's our main stock-in-trade here — from Nerd Poker and last week's action-packed episode. Beside Blaine and Brian, the rest of the cast includes Ken Daly, Sarah Guzzardo, Chris Tallman, dungeon Master Dan Telfer, and engineer Sam Kieffer. If you are unfamiliar with RPGs, that's Role Playing Games, and particularly Dungeons & Dragons, I can't help you. Well, I probably could – I've been playing since 1979 – but we just don't have the time. Blaine's and my acquaintanceship…acquantancy?… acquaintedness?… oes back a few decades to the San Francisco comedy scene which we talk about in our chat. All right. Without further ado, here is my chat with our special guest Blaine Capatch! Thanks to Blaine for jumping on the Zoomer with me for that. I would love to have the whole cast of Nerd Poker make their way in front of the Succotash microphones one of these days. Maybe I should Dungeon Master a game and invite them all to play! That could be cool and incredibly terrifying! One of the fun things their show features every week is, right after Dan Telfer thanks a bunch of their Patreon supporters, Blaine does a commercial from a variety of fake sponsors. Very much in the vein of our Henderson's Pants spots, but the advertisers are all different. Just to give you a sample, I went into their archives and slices out five different little ads he's read, and they sound a little like – no, actually, exactly like this… Blaine also makes funny, occasionally outrageous quips in real life, which you can can catch via his socials through his homogenous handles @BlaineCapatch on both Twitter and Instagram. In addition to NerdPoker.com, he's frequently a judge for Story Smash, the storytelling game show that's a spinoff of the Story Worthy soundcast from friend-of-the-show Christine Blackburn And, as he mentions look for him performing around LA in Lucha VaVOOM!, the burlesque and Mexican wrestling spectacular. Episode 316 is now officially over except for the outro and closing credits from Mr. Heywatt. Thanks again to our special guest this week, Blaine Capatch. Subscribe to us from any of your favorite places and Tyson Saner will be heading your way in this same feed next week with Epi317. My latest review in Vulture.com this Month in Comedy Podcasts, featuring Nikki Glaser guesting on Marc Maron's WTF is still up – there's a link to it up in the blog entry for this week's episode at our homesite SuccotashShow.com. And, other than that, if you happen to find a runaway dog wandering the streets and it seems friendly and you pick it up and read the ID tag and it reads, “Have you heard anything good lately?”, won't you please pass the Succotash? — Marc Hershon
Saluton, estas mi Tyson Saner welcoming you to Epi315 of Succotash, the soundcast that might just introduce you to your next favorite soundcast…as long as you understand that "soundcast" is what we here have been calling "podcasts" since waaaaay back in the day, shortly after Succotash launched some 11 years ago. There is also an excellent chance that we have already introduced you to your current favorite soundcast. Perhaps it was something that you heard in last week's Episode #314 in which I brought you clips from the soundcasts Black Aesthetic, Jeremiah Wonders, and Real Life Sci-Fi. Perhaps not, It's difficult to say. One thing that isn't difficult to say, by the way is thank you for listening which is essentially what I am doing right now in the guise of merely telling you about it.…or…is that the lazy explanation? I D K . This week, I've got another round of the "3-clip tango" for you in the form of content bites from the soundcasts known as The Winnebago Boys, Oxventure - A Dungeons & Dragons Podcast, and The Todd Glass Show. I've also got an ad from our longtime, 100% FAKE sponsor "Henderson's Pants" and their disturbingly anthropomorphic Pet Pants for you to enjoy as you indeed might…so look forward to that. Alright, I've got very little time to do this, so let's get to the clips… CLIPS The Winnebago Boys Evan Vest and Eian Webre are The Winnebago Boys and our snippet is from May of last year, an episode entitled "Many Gods". Evan apologizes - "We're back. My bad. Had a rough spell but we're back. Eian is now a permanent host." The clip itself features a very serious discussion of comedy and some of its' many aspects… Oxventure - A Dungeons & Dragons Podcast The Oxventurers Guild presents a DnD real play podcast! Join Johnny Chiodini, Jane Douglas, Andy Farrant, Mike Channell, Ellen Rose and Luke Westaway for chit-chat and chaotic good times. Our clip is from back around the corner - July 22, 2022 - in an episode called "Wedded Redemption Part 1" with special guest player Harry McEntire…and Happy Episode 100! This clip features part of the introductory portion of the campaign the group is about to embark upon. The Todd Glass Show Todd Glass has his very own show! He brings on his funny friends and they talk about whatever they want. And, of course, there are bits! Our clip hails from February 21, 2020, just between the COVID lockdown would sweep in a month later. Featuring guests Nick Swardson & Blake Wexler, although our clip only features Nick and Todd as Nick recalls doing live events with Adam Sandler and others…and an at-this-point-in-time very much living Norm Macdonald is fondly remembered. Hey, we all made it to the end together. That idea puts an image in my head of a group photo of a large number of people posing with a single trophy that they all must share.…(storybook voice) "and that was the last time that trophy was ever seen in one piece again…" Be sure to listen here, or wherever you listen, to Epi316 which will be hosted by show creator and executive producer Marc Hershon — who managed to secure an interview with Blaine Capatch of the world-famous soundcast Nerd Poker. I will be looking forward to it as much as you no doubt are at this very moment, assuming this is the first moment you have learned of this. If all goes well, I should be back with an episode for you a week after that featuring…I haven't the faintest clue yet as I am still writing this. Thank you for listening, Be Decent to Each Other, Avoid COVID-19 and DEFINITELY avoid spreading it to other people if you can at the very least manage that,…what you could spread, however, is this show by sharing your awareness of it with other people. It's what we mean when we drop to our knees with our hands clasped together and implore you to Please…Pass The Succotash! — Tyson Saner

Todd Glass cares more about stand-up than anyone I’ve ever met. From the pre-show announcements to the lighting in the showroom to the vibe in the green room, Todd takes control and lets you know you’re in for an experience. Todd started stand-up at 16 and loves all the little nuances that the audience (and other comics) might not even realize. We talk about those nuances, his writing process, anger, and Jager (we’ve done A LOT of Jager shots together.)Pat House is a nationally-touring comedian based out of Philadelphia. A regular performer in comedy clubs, casinos, and theaters all over the country, Pat has been a choice opener for Sebastian Maniscalco, Tom Segura, and Dan Cummins. He recorded his first album Biggest Thing in 2013, and his latest album Heard Enough Yesterday, hit #1 on the iTunes comedy charts. Both can be heard on iTunes, Amazon, and Pandora.Glass is perhaps best known for his appearances as a contestant on the second and third seasons of NBC's Last Comic Standing and has appeared regularly on programs such as Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn, The Dennis Miller Show, Politically Incorrect, Louie, Tosh.0, Mr. Show with Bob and David, Preston and Steve and had his own Comedy Central Presents special in 2001. He co-hosted the podcast Comedy And Everything Else with fellow comics Jimmy Dore and Stefané Zamorano but left the podcast in September 2009. His departure was officially announced on November 28, 2009 episode and Glass has returned as a guest on several episodes since leaving. In 2001, Glass released his debut stand-up album called Vintage Todd Glass and Other Crap and was also featured on the two-CD set of the Comedy Death-Ray, a compilation album of various stand-up comics performing at the popular Comedy Death-Ray comedy showcase at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in Los Angeles. His album Thin Pig, was released on July 7, 2009, on Comedy Central Records. In August 2011, his new podcast The Todd Glass Show debuted on The Nerdist podcasting network.[6] He hosts the show along with frequent co-host Eric Ohlsen and a regular lineup of guests and crew including comedians Rory Scovel (and his wife Jordan) and Blake Wexler, audio engineers Katie Levine, Aristotle "Jet Ski" Acevedo, and musicians Lynn Shore and Joe MacKenzie, who write and perform many of the show's various "jingles" and audio cues. Glass also tours regularly.

Blake Wexler started doing stand-up in the Philly-area when he was 15…and I hated him for it. OK, I didn’t hate him, but he stole my thunder of being the youngest comedian in Philadelphia. Blake is a very close friend and we had a lot to say in this episode. We share some Philly-related stories from our early days, how he would call bars to see if he was even allowed in to perform, his mom driving him to open-mics, his days at Emerson College in Boston and then moving to Los Angeles. Welcome to the last of the four special episodes recorded in the Podcast Lab during the 6th annual Los Angeles Podcast Festival at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles, CA, October 6-8, 2017. As was the case in 2015 and 2016, I had an amazing time at the festival and am extremely grateful to Graham Elwood, Chris Mancini, Dave Anthony and the whole LA PodFest crew, for all the time and effort they put into creating this annual highlight of the podcasting year. Chad Denick is a stand up comedian and writer. He has worked on productions like "The Todd Glass Show" on Nerdist and much more.

Something a little different this time out — a live epi of Succotash Chats, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast, presented as part of the 16th Annual San Francisco Sketchfest! (l-r) Cole Stratton, Paco Romane, Will Durst, Marc Hershon, Wayne Federman, and Joe Paulino (For those who may be offended by my use of Frisco in the title this week - often an affront to some from the City By The Bay - please bear in mind this was a time-honored handle for San Francisco until Chronicle columnist Herb Caen decided to make it a "thing", including writing a book entitled, Don't Call It Frisco! But screw him. He was from Sacramento originally anyway. I grew up in and around this city and I'll call it whatever I want…) We had a delightful show on a Sunday afternoon at the Piano Fight nightclub in the Tenderloin district with a slim crowd in attendance. (I like to blame the low turnout on the thunderstorm that was going on.) Our beloved booth announcer Bill Heywatt was there, live and in person, and went beyond simply introducing the show and reading a commercial for Henderson's Pants Hippie Hiphuggers — he sang a song, The President's A Trump, based on The Lady Is A Tramp. And he was accompanied on piano by guest Wayne Federman, co-host of the Human Conversation soundcast. Special thanks to Wayne, who was performing the previous night and was due to fly home early Sunday, but stayed over until evening and paid the extra money to switch his flight just to join us. In addition to Bill and Wayne, we had political comedian and social commentator Will Durst who read a live Burst O' Durst segment and also helped me host the event. And on our panel of soundcasters we also had Paco Romane, co-host of the Sup Doc show, and Cole Stratton, co-host of Pop My Culture (and also co-producer of the SF Sketchfest.) Interestingly, both Wayne and Cole's soundcasts have dropped their last episodes. (Pop My Culture actually put up its last show the week before as part of the Sketchfest offerings.) THE PERFORMERS Will Durst is a five-time Emmy nominated political satirist, seven-time nominee for Best Male Stand-Up of the Year, a nationally syndicated columnist, author of four books, and has released five CDs and is sworn enemy to all tyrants foreign and domestic. He is now touring with his new acclaimed one-man show about Baby Boomers. BoomeRaging: From LSD to OMG, and can be seen as one of the three subjects in the new documentary 3 Still Standing, currently available from Amazon Prime. Wayne Federman is a comedian, actor, and writer. He has been touring clubs, colleges, alternative rooms, and theaters for over 30 years. He has performed on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and has his own stand‐up special on Comedy Central. Wayne has appeared in over twenty films including Knocked Up, Step Brothers, The 40‐Year‐Old Virgin, Legally Blonde, 50 First Dates, Funny People, and is featured in the upcoming Will Ferrell/Amy Poehler comedy The House. Television viewers know Wayne from his his recurring role on Curb Your Enthusiasm as well Shameless, Hello Ladies, Documentary Now!, The Larry Sanders Show, Community, and New Girl. He is both an Emmy and WGA-award nominated writer. He has had articles published in The Atlantic, Vulture, and Splitsider and was the head monologue writer for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon as well as co‐authoring a bestselling sports biography on Pistol Pete Maravich. His critically acclaimed 3-volume comedy retrospective, The Chronicles of Federman, was released in 2015 by ASpecialThing Records. Paco Romane’s authentic, engaging, and unpredictable style has established him as an audience favorite. His act is a “mashup of all things funny – stand up, sketch, improv, you name it” – and with his experience in improv and sketch comedy he’ll regularly spin any live moment with the crowd into his act. Paco has appeared on Comedy Central, is a frequent guest on The Todd Glass Show and was twice voted Best Comedian in San Francisco. He has also appeared in numerous films and national commercials, and is a sought after voice-over actor. Check out his comedy album Shaped Like A Thumb and his podcast Sup Doc. Cole Stratton wears a lot of hats. Not literal ones, as he has a tiny head and it just doesn't look right. He is the co-founder of SF Sketchfest. He’s also co-host of the popular (and recently shuttered) Pop My Culture soundcast. He has also guested on other soundcasts, such as Sklarbro County, Jordan Jesse Go!, Competitive Erotic Fan Fiction, Totally Laime, The Long Shot Podcast and James Bonding. Due to planet alignment, he has appeared on TV’s Nash Bridges, re-enacted on America’s Most Wanted, played with puppies and Betty White on the Animal Planet original The Retrievers, thrown-down like the sarcastic white boy he is on Wilmer Valderrama’s Yo Momma, and was a cast member on NBC’s competitive comedy show Comedy Colosseum. He’s a lead in the indie comedy Callback opposite Kevin Farley, has also appeared in the films Around the Fire, Dead Man on Campus, and the festival hit horror/comedy The Selling, where he plays obnoxious office gossip Ed, a role which he will be reprising in the upcoming end-times comedy Diani & Devine Meet The Apocalypse. HOW CAN YOU HELP? Great question! To help us to keep the mics on, you can do one (or all) of several things to offset our production costs. 1) Visit http://SuccotashShow.com and click on the cheery Donate button in the upper right side of the page, OR 2) Visit http://SuccotashShow.com and click on the Amazon banner at the top of the page - we get a little taste of everything you buy from the World's Greatest Anything Store, OR 3) Purch some merch from our Succotashery which, oddly enough, is available at http://SuccotashShow.com! Thanks so much for reading this, listening to the soundcast, and passing the Succotash! — Marc Hershon

It's been a full year since we dropped the very first episodes of Sup Doc! We watched many classic and soon-to-be-classic documentaries, talked to new and old friends, and jumped feet first into podcasting. Paco and George are joined by producer Will to reminisce about our dynamics, getting blocked out of Outside Lands, the secret of the Sup Doc logo design, mystery emails from Anonymous, and what to expect in the next few months of the show. We play clips from Kaseem Bentley and Adam Pfahler about San Francisco 2.0 (Episode 15), Chris Thayer talks about his high school performance art band with Emily Heller and David Gborie live in SF (Episode 22), Beth Lisick gets taken in by the JT LeRoy con and a Haight Street hustler (Episode 3), Jesse Thorn visits a farm sanctuary (Episode 13), and Jamie DeWolf compares L. Ron Hubbard to Stephen King (Episode 16). Paco also appears on The Todd Glass Show (http://nerdist.com/the-todd-glass-show-251-paco-romane) and claims to be friends with Mr. T (a likely story). **Sup Doc has created a Patreon page for those that can help out. Yes, it’s me again – Marc Hershon – your host and commemorative beer stein for Epi130 of Succotash, the Comedy Podcast Podcast. And I got a passel of comedy podcast clips for you. Our ace associate producer Tyson Saner harvested some. I found a couple. And we got some uploaded directly to us from podcasters themselves, using the upload link at http://hightail.com/u/Succotash. Podquest If you think you have a cool idea for a new podcast, don’t keep it to yourself. I’m saying you should tell me about it either, but you’re going to want to hang in for my chat with Julie Shapiro, who’s the executive producer with the Radiotopia network — they’ve got a baker’s dozen of shows occupying podcastland, including 99% Invisible, The Memory Palace, Song Exploder, and Mortified. But they're looking for more and they want a show that no one is doing yet. So if YOU have an idea for a show, or are doing a show that’s been bumping around, cloaked in obscurity, Radiotopia is sponsoring Podquest, the search to find that show. Julie and I talk about the contest and how you can get your concepts in front of their ears. What's Up I’ll tell you whose clips we have on the show in a moment, but you should also know that we’ve got our Burst O’ Durst with political comedian and social commentator Will Durst. Our show's brought to you by Henderson's new Hooray For Hollywood Pants, and we have a dip into the Tweetsack, where we FINALLY Have a couple of recorded calls from our Succotash Hotline. Plus I’ve got Cursed, a really cool musical piece that Tyson put together using bits and piece from The Todd Glass Show. Our Associate Producer continues to amaze me with his talents. And we have a SECOND musical piece from our acapellanist, Abner Serd, who brings us a seasonally-appropriate tune called Joe Mann, the Self-Rolling Snowman. The Clips As for the actual shows that we’re featuring clips from this time around: Cave Crew Radio, I Am Rapaport, Local Ass Bitches, Loud & Obnoxious, Obsessed, The Potato Bureau, Russell & Mudtooth, The Sketch Comedy Podcast Show, and Spontaneanation. As a blanket thing, the podcasts that we get our clips from can be found at their homesites — click on each show's title to be whisked there instantaneously — as well as on iTunes, Stitcher, SoundCloud, and a number of other podcast distribution points on the World Wide Web. I Am Rapaport: Stereo PodcastI caught actor Michael Rapaport on WTF with Marc Maron this past week. You might know him from his work – he’s been in over 60 movies and TV projects, starting with Zebrahead through last year’s Little Boy movie. He had a great arc on the second-to-last season of TV’s Justified, too. He and his best friend, Gerald Moody, kick out fresh episodes of the I Am Rapaport: Stereo Podcast every week, or maybe it’s twice a week. Rap and G, as they call each other, shoot from the hip on a variety of topics. I actually met Michael years ago, when I used to hang out at the Improv in LA, because he did, too – his sister’s step-father was one of the owners. Anyone, he always seemed a decent guy and I like what he has to say on his p’cast. A word of warning if you don’t like profanity — Rap and G speak the language of the streets. Oh, and they also take a certain measure of pride in the fact that they don’t fact-check their spew. SpontaneanationTyson grabbed us a clip from Epi49 of Spontaneanation, the latest podcast from the brain of one of the hardest-working men in podcasting, Paul F. Tompkins. It’s a completely improvised show, with a rotating cast of guest friends and performers. On the episode this clip is from, Paul’s guests are Cameron Esposito, Shulie Cowen, Brandon Johnson, and Chris Tallman. I’m a big fan of Paul F. but then, who isn’t? Potato BureauOne of our upload savvy listeners is Corky Kneivel, he of the Potato Bureau podcast. This week he shot us a scene clipped from their Epi2, featuring Court Hansen as the guy getting his dishes back, Molly Doan as “Darren” (the screw up), Corky's playing Darren’s brother, with Michelle Petro is the security guard who — spoiler alert — gets killed. The way the Potato Bureau "gimmick" works is that the scenes are somehow inspired by each episode's musical guest, which is where the sketch in this clip sprang from…) Loud & ObnoxiousAnother clip that was uploaded directly to us this episode comes from the crew over at Loud & Obnoxious — Korey H., D-Brew, Producer Dave, and Halfpint. First off, how can you NOT listen to a clip featuring someone named Halfpint, right? They’re part of the MenRule Network. Here’s their description of their show that’s up on iTunes: “They are four guys that don't apologize for speaking the truth. Each week they discuss movies, news stories, beer, politics, and sports. They also have their intern, Halfpint, do things that he is very uncomfortable with including karaoke and talking to girls.” Sketch Comedy Podcast ShowTyson clipped us something from a recent epi of the Sketch Comedy Podcast Show, which is about as descriptive a title as you can get in a podcast title. Also maybe a bit misleading, as the description for the show says it’s “Lightly scripted and improvised.” The hosts are Alisha Holland and Stuart Rice and the show booms out of Portland, Oregon. ObsessedThis next clip was ripped from the Tweetsack, having been dropped in there by Sarah Meyer who writes “I really enjoy your podcast reviews and I hope it’s not taking a liberty, but I’d LOVE it if you could take a listen to a comedy podcast I co-produce — 'Obsessed with Joseph Scrimshaw.'" It’s over on the on the Feral Audio network. The title is a little deceptive because it isn’t a show about an obsession with Joseph Scrimshaw — he’s the host and he talks to guests about their obsessions. In this case, the obsession is podcasts and the guest is Dustin Marshall, the founder and maniac behind the Feral Audio network, host to such shows as Harmontown, The Duncan Trussell Family Hour and Obsessed with Joseph Scrimshaw. Also, this is Joseph’s 100th episode of Obsessed, so congratulations! Russell & MudtoothTyson clipped us off a hunk of the Russell & Mudtooth Show from the Radio Random Network. It features Russell Devlin McLain (or #RDM, as he’s socially mediatroducing himself these days), and Mudtooth. To me, “Mudtooth” is WAY more interesting a name than hashtag-anything, but maybe that's just me. This show drops every Friday and #RDM, who is a musician, tears up the country music scene, music in general, as well as sports, current events, etc., etc. with his pal Mudtooth. In this sample of the show, Mudtooth goes off on a tear about the most recent Oscars. Cave Crew RadioIn case you haven’t figured it out on your own, podcasters are not the only ones who can upload their clips to the show. If you are a LISTENER to a comedy podcast that you enjoy, you are cordially welcome to upload a clip, too! That’s exactly what Stuart Ramsden did recently when he uploaded us a chunk of Cave Crew Radio, which is great. Because who knows how long it have taken us to discover the hosts, DK and Big B on our own? And the show has been going for a tad over a year. (So way to take the inish, Stuart!) In this clip the talk is about Valentines and giving stuff up for Lent. Local Ass BitchesOur friend Davian Dent — host of the soon-to-be-defunct The Bitter Sound podcast and co-host of The Strange Times podcast — has sent in a promo of a show he enjoys: Local Ass Bitches, a comedy podcast I’d not heard before. Davian must really like the show, because he knows I’m not a fan of playing promos. He uploaded it directly to us via out Hightail link and he says, “Four best friends from Chicago talk politics, sex, dating and everything in between! Born, raised and living on the NW Side – Lisa, Manny, Nora and Rosa are the epitome of Local Ass Bitches, a term coined by one of their comedic favorites, Kevin Hart, which now has its own definition in the urban dictionary. They also win the Davian Dent Award for being the sexiest mofo's in podcasting...” That’s it, friend. The Succotash tank is empty for another week or so. You can help us to keep the show going by clicking on the Donate button at our http://SuccotashShow.com homesite. Or else go there and click on the Amazon banner at the top of the page And visit the Succotashery, also accessible though the website, where you can get some garments or other gewgaws festooned with the snappy Succotash logo. Even if you can’t afford to give us any of your hard-earned money, the least you could do it to tell your friends about our show. And, in exchange, I give you a hearty thanks for passing the Succotash! — Marc Hershon
On Episode 26 of Sup Doc Paco sits down with the hilarious comedian and podcast host (The Todd Glass Show) Todd Glass. They have a candid and funny talk about the 2008 Bill Maher documentary Religulous (available on Netflix) plus organized religion, treating people with respect, and how this documentary changed Todd.In Religulous Bill Maher plays devil's advocate with religion as he talks to believers about their faith. Bill Maher interviews some of religion's oddest adherents. Muslims, Jews and Christians of many kinds pass before his jaundiced eye. Maher goes to a Creationist Museum in Kentucky, which shows that dinosaurs and people lived at the same time 5000 years ago. He talks to truckers at a Truckers' Chapel. (Sign outside: "Jesus love you.") He goes to a theme park called Holy Land in Florida. He speaks to a rabbi in league with Holocaust deniers. He talks to a Muslim musician who preaches hatred of Jews. Maher finds the unlikeliest of believers and, in a certain Vatican priest, he even finds an unlikely skeptic. Todd Glass' comedy is often satirical, sometimes irreverent but always funny. His television appearances are many and he has become a veritable fixture on Comedy Central. You are, once again – unless this is your first time – listening to Succotash, the Comedy Podcast Podcast. (Or the Comedy Earfruit Earfruit. Ever since my chat with Superego's Matt Gourley, I’ve become obsessed with renaming the generic podcast with something. What do you think of earfruit?) This is Succotash Epi99! The penultimate episode of Season One. That’s right. Episode 100 will be the final show for our first season. But that’s next time. THIS time we have a helluva show for you with not one but TWO interviews that I did when I was at the 3rd Annual LA Podcast Festival at the end of September. You’ll hear my chat with Todd Glass of the Todd Glass Show and with Matt Knudsen from the Grabbing Lunch podcast. (Or earfruit.) I’ll also be playing clips from both of their podcasts PLUS clips from Picking Favorites, a new podcast on the new Wolfpop Network, the Angry Old Man podcast, Denzel Washington is The Greatest Actor of All Time PERIOD, and Today We Learned teaches us all a little something about the dumbest laws in the United States. We also have a DOUBLE dose of our Burst O’ Durst segment with comedian Will Durst, a classic Henderson’s Pants commercial, and a musical track from our Associate Producer Tyson Saner that is featured on Combat Radio’s First Christmas Album, which is a great way to help out friend-of-Succotash Ethan Dettenmeier’s Christmas Event for Homeless Children Benefit. You can find out order the album and find out more about the benefit by visiting OUR homesite, http://SuccotashShow.com, and click on the album cover on the right hand side. Wish Us A Happy 100TH Episode! If you’re a comedy podcaster or just a regular old listener, there’s still time to get us your “Happy 100th Episode Anniversary!” message for us to play on our one hundredth show. You can call one into the Succotash Hotline, at (818) 921-7212, or email us an MP3 or WAV file to marc@SuccotashShow.com. (Not to throw a challenge out there, but in this episode I'm playing a great 100th episode message in from the guys over at Illusionoid and I’ve got to say that I really appreciate the extra effort that went into it. PodBay's Top 10 Comedy Podcasts It’s been TWO months since Stitcher has updated their Top 100 Comedy Podcast List. Not sure what’s going on over there. (Heck, given the nature of technology, maybe my browser is screwed up.) But I’m not able to track podcasts through Stitcher’s site these days so rather than NOT do our Top 10 Most Active Shows On Stitcher's Top 100 Comedy Podcast List, I hopped over to PodBay’s site to harvest their list of the most recent Top 10 Comedy Podcasts according to the live iTunes rankings. Tyson’s cut is entitled For Christmas and feature in during this episode both under our Tweetsack mentions and then in its entirety at the end of the show. The Clips Denzel Washington is the Greatest Actor of All Time PERIODLast week on Splitsider.com and HuffPost Comedy I reviewed this new podcast, one of Wolfpop’s new shows, hosted by recent Succotash special guest W. Kamau Bell and Kevin Avery, a soon-to-be guest on this show. Both of these guys spent a lot of their formative funny years as San Francisco comedians, then Kamau got his own show, Totally Biased, for a while on FX and FXX. Kevin was head writer on that show and, when it got cancelled, he found a place on the writing staff on John Oliver’s Last Week Tonight on HBO. The two of them decided to put together a podcast about one of their favorite people, Denzel Washington, to let everyone know what a terrific actor they think he is. The Todd Glass ShowI was glad I got a chance to sit with Todd Glass at this year’s LA Podcast Festival. I know him a little bit from the LA comedy scene and he’s played in Northern California during the past couple of years and we got to hangout just before he started HIS podcast, the Todd Glass Show. Before I get to our chat, I wanted to play a little piece of a recent epi of his show, one featuring guest Patton Oswalt. Picking FavoritesIf you were a fan of NBC’s series Chuck, about a nerdy big box store employee who get a computer stuffed into his noggin, you know Zachary Levi, the star of the show. David Coleman was the propmaster on that show, kind of the Q of TV comedy spy show, if you will. Together, they started a business called The Nerd Machine and now they have this Wolfpop podcast, Picking Favorites, started with the help of a comedian who goes by the name Razzle Dangerously, who also host a show on the Nerdist network called Today We Learned, which we’ll be playing a clip from momentarily. Then they drafted Tyler Labine, a hilarious actor from shows like Reaper, The Sons of Tucson, and the movie Tucker & Dale vs Evil. Picking Favorites starts with three topics each episode and the hosts and guests go round-robin style, naming off their favorites of whatever the topic happens to be. In the second show, their guest was Adam Baldwin, another Chuck alumnus (and also one of the stars of Monster Makers, a movie I wrote for the Hallmark Channel.) Today We LearnedAssociate Producer Tyson Saner grabbed the previous clip and this next clip, which comes from the Today We Learned podcast, featuring Razzle Dangerously (as heard in the Picking Favorites clip), and Dan Casey. This Nerdist show says that the hosts bring you “the latest and greatest and sometimes weirdest facts and trivia the world has to offer.” In this clip, from their Epi62, the hosts and their guest Jacob Soboroff talk about dumb laws in the United States. Angry Old ManWe clipped The Angry Old Man podcast quite a while ago – Episode 53, I think – so it’s high time we hit him again. All I know about the ringmaster for this podcast is that he goes by the name Robert Q, and that he does all the voices on this thing. Tyson grabbed the cold opening from Angry Old Man Epi 90 so have a listen… Grabbing LunchI was first introduced to Matt Knudsen, host of the Grabbing Lunch podcast, at the most recent LA Podcast Festival when Christine Blackburn (of the Story Worthy podcast) dragged him into the Podcast Lab and told me, “You have GOT to interview Matt!” I really enjoyed our chat and I love the premise for his podcast. Simple. Filling. Grab two people who listeners may or may not have heard of before, sit ‘em down to lunch and turn the mics on. This clip is from his Epi52 – at one episode a week, that’s his one year anniversary. And his guests were actress Helen Slater from things like Supergirl and City Slickers, and her husband Rob Watzke, a Hollywood editor and improviser. Join us next time for Epi100, the last show of Season 1! Until next time, thanks for passing the Succotash! – Marc Hershon
Welcome to Epi94 of Succotash, the Comedy Podcast Podcast. This is the podcast where we feature clips of other comedy podcasts to help you to try and sort through the, literally, thousands of comedy podcasts you could be listening to when you fancy a comedy podcast or two. Since I’m always skimming the podwaves, listening to what’s out there (I also review podcasts as part of This Week in Comedy Podcasts for Splitsider.com and on the Huffington Post as well – I know a number of podcasts have taken time out to mention the tragic death of Robin Williams in the past month. Joan Rivers, too. But Robin in particular seemed to touch a nerve across the board with his passing. I spoke about it a bit last episode. I knew Robin some, having grown up in the same area – Marin County – as well as going to the same high school and junior college just a few years behind him. And I had the opportunity to do improv with him on stage a number of times as well as just hangout with him from time to time. So I’ve had my say, really. (Although, if you’d like to see something I’ve written on it, I have a remembrance of Robin and his connection to Marin County that's up on the blog for Marin Magazine here.) Our associate producer Tyson Saner came up with a great idea and that is to give you a smattering of what some of the other podcasters have been saying about Robin. I said, “Go for it!” and he went out into Podcastland and clipped an even dozen different shows and that’s what our show this episode is going to be about. Tyson asked if I would relax our usual policy of playing only three to five minute long clips. I thought that was an appropriate request, given the nature of what we’re doing here. So some of these are pretty long. Hope you don’t mind (and I hope the hosts of the shows we’re playing these from don’t mind us taking a bit more of a liberty that usual…) I know theres been a lot of about Robin's life – and his death – since his tragic suicide a month or so ago on August 11th. Maybe you’re tired of hearing about it. I can understand that, but he was a personal acquaintance of mine and a great friend to San Francisco comedy, not to mention a global icon. But if this sort of tribute is too heavy or not you cup of tea, I get it. Feel free to give this episode a pass if you want, but you’re going to miss some great words spoken about a comedian, actor, father, husband and friend who was truly beloved. Also In This Episode We still have our usual roundup of the stuff we like doing, like our Burst O’ Durst segment with comedian & social lampooner Will Durst (It's actually a double dose o' Durst this episode!), a classic Henderson’s Pants commercial, our Tweetsack segment, and an extra big clip mention/clip/message from the Chillpak Hollywood Hour with Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness. Plus our exclusive feature that we like to call… The 10 Most Active Shows In Stitcher's Top 100 Comedy Podcast List We're not satisfied just to look at the top 10 shows on the list of Top 100 comedy podcasts over at Stitcher - mostly because those rarely change. Instead, we like checking out the shows that are moving the most up OR down the charts. Here's how they looked this past week… AT MOVED39 The Cracked Podcast +1142 Bertcast’s Podcast -1047 SModcast >> Edumacation +1860 The Brian & Jill Show - 769 The Champs with Neal Brennan & Moshe Kasher - 779 WMMR’s Preston & Steve Podcast - 783 Fernando & Greg’s Daily Podcast +3891 Straight Outta Lo Cash + 796 The Mick Bettencourt Show - 898 NYC Crime Report w/Pat Dixon +12 Latest Podcast Reviews This past week on Splitsider.com, as part of This Week In Comedy Podcasts, I reviewed The Louie Anderson Podcast Epi5, "Robin Williams: A Friend and Legend Remembered", which was chock full of comedians' remembrances of Robin. That same review appears on the Huffington Post. World Premiere of 3 Still Standing The documentary film that I've been mentioning on Succotash, entitled 3 Still Standing, is about to make its debut in the fairly prestigious Mill Valley Film Festival! I did a bit of bheind the scenes work, some consulting and even some on camera stuff for this movie, which take a look at the San Francisco comedy scene, from the early 1980s through present day. It does by examining the lives and careers of a trio of working comedians: Our own Will Durst, past guest Larry "Bubbles" Brown, and Johnny Steele. The movie's premiere is set for Saturday, October 4th, 5 PM, at the Sequoia Theater in downtown Mill Valley, California. Then, at 8 PM, just down the street at the 142 Throckmorton Theatre, I will be hosting the 3 Still Standing Live On Stage comedy show with the three comics, the film's directors and producers, and more. If you're interested in tickets, hop on over to the film festival's online box office at http://MVFF.com The Clips The Christopher Titus PodcastWe start the clips off with a slice from the top of The Christopher Titus Podcast, the section Chris Titus calls “The Armageddon Update”. This was cut just two days after Robin moved along, and you can hear the emotion in Chris’ voice as he talks about his personal hero. The Evil Teddy Bear PodcastIn the clips we have for this episode about Robin, there's only this one in which we hear from a woman. The host of The Evil Teddy Bear Podcast, Korey Epps, did his own Robin tribute and one of the people who spoke was actress Stephanie Erb. (We get a lot of Twitter love and support for our show from Korey, so thanks as always for passing the Succotash!) The Nick Di Paolo PodcastI like that we’re getting a chance to hear from some podcasts we’ve not had a chance to clip so far in the two and a half years that Succotash has been plying the podwaves. The Nick Di Paolo Podcast is one of those. Nick Di Paolo a great comic, a very real guy, and his Epi42 was entitled R.I.P. Robin Williams. About Last NightNick Di Paolo’s not much of a Mrs. Doubtfire fan but someone who is? Adam Ray, co-host of the About Last Night podcast with Brad Williams. (BTW, I just met Brad for the first time a couple of weeks ago, at the first comedy show that was done after Robin’s death at the 142 Throckmorton Theatre in Mill Valley. He's San Francisco-bound to take over morning drive duties on KITS 105.5 FM. Good luck, Brad!) The Smartest Man In The WorldHere are some wonderful remembrances from Greg Proops, host of The Smartest Man In The World podcast. I know Greg very well from being in an improv group with him in San Francisco before he got onto Whose Line Is It Anyway. And we’ve both done stage work with Robin, separately and together. This was recorded while Greg was over at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Nerd PokerWe have another tribute from some more of Robin's hometown boys. This was at the end of an episode of Nerd Poker with Brian Posehn & Friends. In this case, Brian Posehn, Blaine Capatch and Ken Daly, along with guest Dave Anthony, talk about their memories of Robin. Everyone chatting here except Ken really got their comedy chops in San Francisco and so crossed paths with Robin a number of times. The Chong & Chong ShowOne of the clips Tyson grabbed is from a podcast by a comedian who’s been in the game longer than Robin by more than half a decade. Tommy Chong, along with his son Paris Chong, hosts The Chong & Chong Show. And we have Tommy giving his perspective on Robin. This Week with Larry MillerLarry Miller, host of This Week with Larry Miller, prefaced his thoughts about Robin by talking about Lauren Bacall. Larry has got to be one of the classiest guys in comedy and he had a narrow brush with death himself a couple of years ago when he took a fall and smacked his head pretty badly. Here’s his take on Robin… Stuck In The 80sHere’s a clip from a show we’ve never featured before – Stuck In the 80’s. It’s all 80‘s stuff all the time – movie, TV, music, pop culture – and host Steve Spears and his rotating pool of co-hosts dive into the “Reagan Era” with gusto. Robin Williams is a personality who transcended 40 years of show business and our culture and the 80’s was a big chunk in the middle of that. HarmontownDan Harmon, the creator of TV’s Community as well as Adult Swim’s Morty & Jack, is the mayor of Harmontown, a live podcast, aided by his Comptroller Jeff Davis. Harmon and Jeff had a few things to say about Robin recently. The Todd Glass ShowHere’s some personal memories of running into Robin by Todd Glass on his The Todd Glass Show podcast, along with his guests Ian Karmel and Rob Gleeson. Miller TimeThe last Robin clip we have this episode is from Dennis Miller, who has been doing Miller Time, a daily radio show/podcast, for years now. As a major comedy fixture and trained observer of pop culture and society at large, his is a particularly moving reminiscence of Robin. Thanks to all the hosts and guest of the podcasts we clipped this episode to make this special Rememberin' Robin episode happen. Our next episode we'll be back with an interview with The Amazing Johnathan, as well as clips from more comedy podcasts from around the internet! Until, then, please remember to pass the Succotash! — Marc Hershon

The Todd Glass Situation (Simon & Schuster) A hilarious, poignant memoir from comedian Todd Glass about his decision at age forty-eight to finally live openly as a gay man--and the reactions and support from his comedy pals, from Louis CK to Sarah Silverman. Growing up in a Philadelphia suburb in the 1970s was an easy life. Well, easy as long as you didn't have dyslexia or ADD, or were a Jew. And once you added gay into the mix, life became more difficult. So Todd Glass decided to hide the gay part, no matter how comic, tragic, or comically tragic the results. It might have been a lot easier had he chosen a profession other than stand-up comedy. By age eighteen, Todd was opening for big musical acts like George Jones and Patti LaBelle. His career carried him through the Los Angeles comedy heyday in the 1980s, its decline in the 1990s, and its rebirth via the alternative comedy scene and the explosion in podcasting. But the harder he worked at his craft, the more difficult it became to manage his "situation." There were the years of abstinence and half-hearted attempts to "cure" himself. The fake girlfriends so that he could tell relationship jokes onstage. The staged sexual encounters to burnish his reputation offstage. It took a brush with death to cause him to rethink the way he was living his life; a rash of suicides among gay teens to convince him that it was finally time to come out to the world. Now, Todd has written an open, honest, and hilarious memoir in an effort to help everyone--young and old, gay and straight--breathe a little more freely. Peppered with anecdotes from his life among comedy's greatest headliners and tales of the occasionally insane lengths Todd went through to keep a secret that--let's face it--he probably didn't have to keep for as long as he did, The Todd Glass Situation is a front-row seat to the last thirty plus years of comedy history and a deeply personal story about one man's search for acceptance. Praise for The Todd Glass Situation “Todd Glass is one of my all-time favorite comedians. But he is not just a brilliant comedian, he is also a terrible friend.”— Sarah Silverman “Todd Glass is not only the funniest person I know, he might be the funnest. This book is like Todd: fun, engaging and honest. And having ghost written so many classic books (War & Peace, Elmo Goes Shopping, The Celestine Prophecy, The Notebook) it is nice to see Todd finally put his name on one! Also: Todd Glass is much funnier than his brother Ira.”— Jim Gaffigan “Todd is a human hurricane and comedic force of nature. And now that hurricane has written a book. HOW DID HE TYPE WITH HIS WIND-FINGERS?”— Patton Oswalt “There are comics and then there are comic's comics. Todd Glass is the rare comic's comic's comic. Which means six people find him funny.”— Norm Macdonald Todd Glass is a stand-up comedian who has performed on Late Night with Conan O'Brien, Chelsea Lately, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and The Jimmy Kimmel Show, among many other programs. He's also the host of The Todd Glass Show, a popular podcast on the Nerdist Network. Visit www.ToddGlass.com and follow Todd on Twitter at @toddglass.
Comedian James Adomian joins host Tim Barnes to discuss being an impressionist and the time he bombed opening for comedy legend Joan Rivers. James was a top-10 finalist on Last Comic Standing (NBC) and is a frequent guest on Comedy Bang Bang, and The Todd Glass Show. He performs standup and characters live at Upright Citizens Brigade and at festivals, theaters, and dive bars. His debut album "Low Hangin' Fruit" was released in 2012. (Photo by Mindy Tucker)

On today's show, brought to you by Sal's Landscaping, I talk to comedian Todd Glass. Originally from Philadelphia, Todd began performing stand-up while still in high school. Since then, he's become one of the best stand-ups of our time. Todd's credits include everything from "Conan" to "Politically Incorrect" to the second and third seasons of "Last Comic Standing", and he also hosts the podcast "The Todd Glass Show" on the Nerdist Network. His latest album "Todd Glass Talks About Stuff" was just released in September.Check out the website for Beginnings, subscribe on iTunes, follow me on Twitter, and watch some videos on peteholmes.com!
Can it be?! Yes! This is Epi74 of Succotash, The Comedy Podcast Podcast, and our “thing” is playing clips of comedy podcasts both known and not-so-well known across the internet and we also feature interviews with podcasters, comedians, podcast-comedians and other folks from the entertainment biz. Our special guest this week is my doppleganger in Podcastland, if you will: Andrew Johnstone, the host of the Podcast Squared podcast, which was initially known for reviewing podcasts, comedy and otherwise. He’s been spreading his parameters of late and we sat down to discuss that and more in the Podcast Lab at this year’s LA Podcast Festival for a mutual interview. (Apologies for the background noise - the POdcast Lab got really pakce djust as we were getting underway and there was no way to block the chatter…) A couple of the clips on THIS show are from the LA PodFest – I’m getting to as many as I can – and that’s thanks in large degree to our amazing honorary associate producer Tyson Saner, who is great at grabbing worthwhile moments and even better about sending them into us at Succotash! Tyson is also a musician and you can catch some of his amazing stuff up on Soundcloud. (By the way, you can also catch episodes of Succotash up on Soundcloud as well!) DURST AND MORE We’ve also got a new Burst O’ Durst, a classic Henderson’s Pants commercials – because Bill Heywatt is out of town and we forgot to have him get some new spots “in the can”, as they say, and who knows what else. (Well, I do, but you have to download or stream the episode to see if there’s anything I’m NOT telling you about…) THE 10 MOST ACTIVE SHOWS ON THE STITCHER TOP 100 COMEDY PODCAST LIST Our Top 10 Most Active Shows in the Stitcher Top 100 Comedy Podcast list represent those podcasts that moved the most – either up OR down – Stitcher On Demand Radio’s Top 100 comedy podcasts this past week. Last week there were some BIG triple-digit swings into the list. This week not so much, with the exception of ONE show that jumped over 600 places to barely get into this week’s list. 32. Friday Night Comedy from BBC Radio 4 +1754. My Brother, My Brother & Me +2358. The Dana Gould Hour +3859. Sawbones: A Marital Tour of Misguided Medicine +1964. About Last Night -865. What Say You? -871. The Todd Glass Show +873. The David Feldman Show +2083. Sex Squad -996. Modern Day Philosophers with Danny Lobell +634 CLIPS Chillpak Hollywood HourWe got a couple of nice mentions from Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness at the Chillpak Hollywood Hour this week, one of which is by way of an email from our pal Geoffrey Welchman over at the Inverse Delirium podcast. (Spoiler alert: I’ll be in an upcoming sketch on Inverse Delirium in the very near future. And it looks like Dean will, too!) They also continue a lively discussion about spaghetti Westerns in the latest show. (BUT I think they may have lost their Empire Gas sponsor because I don’t believe there was a mention of it. Hope that’s not the case. I don’t know what we’d do if Henderson’s Pants stopped supporting US…) Jordan Jesse GoWe have a clip from the recent LA Podcast Festival! Jordan Jesse Go features co-hosts Jesse Thorn and Jordan Morris. We’ve clipped these guys before and with good reason – they’re funny. And popular. Consistently in the Top 100 over on Stitcher. In fact, this week they’re at 61 on the chart. And they're at the PodFest, talking about…pigs. 4 AM CabLee Wilson and Rachel Wheeley in England at the 4 AM Cab podcast sent us a clip. Haven’t heard from this sketch show in a while, a “nocturnal comedy podcast” as they put it, featuring “scenes from the small hours.” BTW, they have an open submission policy for writers so, if you want to try your hand at writing audio sketches, here’s a place to try them out! This sketch was written by Matt Fishwick and Cat Furniss, and stars Chris Baker as the robber with Dan Warren as the cop. Mohr StoriesComic Jay Mohr and his Mohr Stories podcast is the flagship of Jay’s Fake Moustache Studios, where they’ve got about a half dozen shows in their stable. Our honorary associate producer Tyson Saner has clipped a couple. The first is the, well, the first – it’s Mohr Stories and Jay’s guest is comedian Jim Norton who is gaga for metal and they’re talking Sabbath. Industry StandardsIf you’re savvy to the standup scene at all, you’ve got to be familiar with the name Barry Katz. Starting in Boston in the 80’s, he started in as a standup as well as a booker for clubs all over the New England area. By the early 90’s he hung up his comedy cleats and began managing comedians – landing clients on Saturday Night Live, record deals, tour dates, the works. The guys a heavy hitter, having kicked off comedians' careers, produced movies, TV shows, and giant concerts. And now he’s a podcaster, too. Gee, Barry, leave something for the rest of us! On a recent episode of his podcast Industry Standards, Barry spoke with Robert Morton, the producer of Late Night with David Letterman. Hey TeensJon and Eric are fully grown adults who reminisce about their awkward teen years on the Hey Teens podcast. The show’s been around a little over a year and THEY had some listener from Glascow little paper cutout dolls of themselves. Damn! Who do I have to clip to get some damned paper dolls! Anyway, on Hey Teens recently, they talked with guest Whitney Moore who talks about Birdemic! The TenderloinsOur Honorary AP Tyson Saner sent this slip in and I ALMOST didn’t include it this epi because I was certain that I’d played another clip from this same episode of The Tenderloins before. But I’ll be damned if I can find it so what the heck? Sal Vulcano, Joe Gatto, James Murray and Brian Quinn – The Tenderloins - are probably better known for their hit Tru TV show, i. Here the boys discuss bad dating experiece. Thanks again to our special guest Andrew Johnstone. And, of course, thanks to you, our loyal listeners. Okay, I’ve been teasing this for a few weeks now but I'm finally going to pop the top on the roadtrip recording I made of Dana Carvey, San Francisco veteran comedian Larry “Bubbles” Brown, and me. The occasion was a pair of theater gigs that Mr. Carvey was headlining — one in Medford, Oregon, the other in Redding, California – and which Mr. Brown was the opening act. Me? I was the chauffeur, documentarian and backstage announcer. We had two GoPro cameras rigged up in the car, courtesy of a trio of documentary filmmakers who are doing a project about comedy in San Francisco (in which Larry plays a prominent part) and we also had a digital recorder running so that we might grab some on-the-road chatter for Succotash. Thanks to my technical knowhow, we almost failed to captured both video and audio during the trip but we did manage to capture enough to fill out this latest epi. (Apologies to listeners: Longtime Succotashians know that I like to nitpick when it comes to crappy audio quality in podcasts and - due to road noise and the other hazards of recording in a vehicle moving in excess of 70 mph, we ended up with a less-than-optimal podcast-quality recording. But I've cleaned it up as much as I can so, hopefully, you'll enjoy the drive along with us.) TOP 10 MOST ACTIVE IN THE STITCHER TOP 100 COMEDY PODCAST LIST If you heard the last episode you know we had some HUGE swings in the numbers all up and down the Stitcher Top 100 Comedy Podcast List. In some cases but 100, 200 or more places. After seeing this week's figures, I think something must have gone screwy at Stitcher HQ, but they are closer to what counts as normal on this list this week. 14. Smodcast: Jay & Silent Bob Get Old +2117. Duncan Trussel Family Hour +3039. By The Way: In Conversation With Jeff Garlin -1543. Uhh Yeah Dude +2051. The Onion Radio News -1561. Off The Air w/Chick McGee -1168. The Todd Glass Show +1283. About Last Night -2397. Who’s Paying Attention +1599. The Dead Authors Podcast -23 "LIVE" HENDERSON'S PANTS SPOT For the first time since Succotash began, our booth announce Bill Heywatt wasn't available to record our sponsor's commercial (he says he's on "vacation", I prefer the term "rehab refresher".) So I give it my best shot this episode when it comes to pitching Henderson's latest, their Sleepover Slacks. BURST O' DURST Our Ambassador to the Middle Will Durst sounds off this episode about two things that go together like salt and pepper, namely politicians and scandals. THE CLIPS The Craig Shoemaker ShowBack in Epi29 my special guest was comedian Craig Shoemaker, from an interview we had when he played San Francisco last summer. So high time we pay a quick visit to the Love Master via a clip from The Craig Shoemaker Show, which is also known as Laugh It Off, kind of a healing-through-laughter philosophy. He’s joined by comedian Sarah Sweet and sidekick/barista Joel Geist. Craig talks about how he likes to record his encounters whenever he gets pulled over by the police for traffic stops — and we get to hear one. The Edge with Mark ThompsonThis week my combing through podcasts turned up an old acquaintance: Mark Thompson. He's been doing TV weather, news and voiceover mostly out of LA for years but we first me when he would guest host show with my improv group in San Francisco at The Punchline in the 80's. About a dozen episodes or so ago, Mark flipped the switch on The Edge podcast. Heather Ankeny is his co-pilot and in the most recent epi, his guest was the very funny Caprice Crane, who is a TV writer and an author. Her parents were pretty well-known folks. Dad was broadcaster Les Crane and - in this clip - Caprice tells what it was like having Tina Louise (Gilligan's Island's Ginger) as her mom. (The Edge is also the podcast I'm reviewing over on Splitsider.com for This Week In Comedy Podcasts!) You Had To Be ThereSplitsider.com has their own comedy podcast network and You Had To Be There, hosted by Sara Schaefer & Nikki Glaser, is part of the roster. (Don't even get me started why Succotash isn't part of their lineup...) Recently they had Jim and Jeannie Gaffigan guesting — yes, we heard the Gaffigans LAST episode when I featured a clip from The Todd Barry Show — but this time they're talking about fame and Taylor Swift. Or, rather, Taylor Swift’s fame. So that's all we have in the way of clips this week. Hopefully, you'll be amused by the over 45 minutes of rambling conversation on the road with Dana Carvey and Larry Brown. Please take two seconds to jump up on iTunes, click to the Podcast section and both rate and review Succotash. You can give us a Thumbs Up on Stitcher. And if anyone asks what podcasts you're listening to these days, be sure to pass the Succotash! — Marc Hershon
When James and I first started this show we would do a special episode once a month where we would borrow the format of another podcast that we loved, and we called it the monthly mencia (get it? [period joke]). Well, we felt that our show was growing and changing at such a pace that … Continue reading Episode 70: The Tadd Gloss Show (Sorry, Kansas Loves The Todd Glass Show) →

Todd Glass (one of our favorite comedians) joins the show to talk about recording podcasts, performing at horrible corporate gigs, Todd's idea for a TV show where he makes everything better and of course, socks. Make sure to listen to Todd's new podcast "The Todd Glass Show", coming soon from Nerdist Industries!! *Nerdist Industries...impregnating your brain with joy babies since 2008
Todd Glass has been performing comedy since he was a teenager in Philly. He's gotten really good at it. With a mix of silliness, observations about our culture, and a message of “Hey, let's not take ourselves so seriously.” Todd is a draw wherever he goes. When he's not making you laugh on stage, he's bringing together his friends to entertain you with his podcast, The Todd Glass Show. Todd and I talked about his Netflix Special, “Act Happy”, how to make the most out of a venue that's not conducive to stand-up comedy, and a new project that will be revealed if you listen to the podcast!Check out everything Todd Glass here:https://toddglass.com/Here's the BTB Internet Talk Show's Twitch Channel.
