Our guest today is Anthony Vicino, best-selling author, multifamily investor, and serial entrepreneur. In this episode, we dive deep into what it means to succeed as an entrepreneur. We talk about mindset, how to be creative, and how to reach the hyperfocused flow state. We also discuss marketing on social media and how to create content that truly connects with your audience and grows your business. Learn more about Anthony and his journey at reiclarity.com! “Find those opportunities for growth and for challenge because that's when you're the most engaged with life.” 03:15 Anthony was a rock climber for about a decade. Through that, he learned a lot about seeking out challenges and taking risks to get better. Rock climbing is all about problem-solving and constantly improving - skills he could use in his businesses. Anthony talks about the right mindset for succeeding as an entrepreneur. He encourages us to focus on the road and not on the destination and celebrate small successes every day. Mindset is like a muscle that needs to be developed constantly. Ways to strengthen our mindset: Start meditating. Don't force yourself at first, take 1 step at a time, and start with 1-5 minute meditations. Change the way you talk to yourself and the way you react to things. Practice gratitude. Start working on your mindset in the time when you're calm and non-reactive. Have a visual reminder. “The studies bear this out again, and again, and again - there's about a 500% increase in productivity when we're in the flow state.” 18:41 Anthony is very passionate about achieving a hyperfocused or flow state. He's helping people figure out how to build systems around themselves so that they can focus with intentionality on the things that really move the lever. According to Anthony, we need curiosity, passion, and motivation to reach this hyperfocused state. How to get into the flow state? Do environment design. Find a calm, quiet place, where you won't be interrupted. You have to be in a good mood for the flow state to happen. Get outside. Go into a novel environment that is information-rich. Routine builds familiarity. Within that routine, you have the maximum potential to be creative and focused. It takes 20-30 minutes to get in the flow state, and you can stay in it for up to 60-90 minutes. “For an author or anybody, the hardest thing to look at is the blank page. You gotta have something already there to get started.” 31:10 Anthony is very active on social media, specifically on LinkedIn. LinkedIn is a good place to build business connections because people are already in the right mindset. Youtube is also a good platform because people go there to search for information. Anthony's advice when creating content is to think about what's in it for the people. Don't just talk about yourself, focus on helping others. Anthony's advice is to have a few topics that you can always go back to and can craft your social media posts around. “Tactics are knowing what to do when there is something to do. Strategy is knowing what to do when there is nothing to do.” 51:06 At the end of the episode, Anthony picks action steps from the REI Clarity Framework that is the most valuable to him. These are “Grow Your Community” and “Know Your Strategy”. For Anthony, strategy is the big macro framework for everything that you're doing in your business. And all the opportunities and tactics are the direct result of all the strategies that you enact. The strategy creates the framework for all the opportunities. Long-time listeners of the podcast, you know we are all about some online business here on the Flipped Lifestyle Podcast. We are all about helping real members of the Flipped Lifestyle Community and we let you listen in so you can change your family's future as well. We cover a lot of topics here: we talk about online business, parenting, marriage, all the above! Today's show is a very special addition to everything we normally talk about. About a year ago I got a message from a friend on Facebook that said, “hey Shane, you've got to talk to this guy Anthony Woolever. Anthony is a Flipped Lifestyle fan but he has a really special story and I want him to be able to tell it.” I thought this was going to be another success story but what came next impacted us in a big, big way! We started messaging on Facebook. Anthony began telling us how he had gotten into a dark place in his life and had decided he was going to commit suicide. As he was preparing his house for his loved ones so they would not have to deal with the after math. As he was doing so, he decided to listen to podcasts. Anthony found Pat Flynn's Smart Passive Income Podcast and it just so happened that he heard our story (along with several others) and he was filled with hope. In this interview you will find out that we were just the period at the end of the sentence. There were a lot of God-ordained moments and now Anthony is living an amazing, productive life and making an impact in a big way out in the world! Show Notes Anthony's story and mission are absolutely incredible. Back in the summer of 2014 Anthony and his (then) wife separated and it was a very traumatic time for him. This came on top of some already underlying mental health challenges from his childhood. Anthony is also a combat veteran - the highest demographic among suicides. Back to 2014, in September of that year he decided to commit suicide himself. He knew he didn't want his parents to have to pick up the pieces of life when he was gone. Anthony went downstairs cleaning all he could with that thought on his mind. Now, Anthony is not one to really listen to music or podcasts but he turned some on because he needed something in the background. So, he googled “top business podcasts.” He didn't like the first one but the second one was Pat Flynn's Smart Passive Income Podcast. As he listened, he really got into this podcast and went all the back to the first episode! He was still cleaning and bing-listening to Pat's podcast. On Episode 122, he got to our story. He said for the first time in a long time he had hope. Something about our story resinated! He realized that if these two school teachers from Kentucky can do this - he could too. After getting his hope back he decided against committing suicide. Not long after, Anthony met Pat - which would then lead him to Aaron Walker of Iron Sharpens Iron who would go to coach Anthony for the next 4 years. After those 4 years Anthony would meet Vincent Pugliese who wrote the book Freelance To Freedom. Your mission statement. (8:00) Anthony's God-ordained mission now is to help decrease the rates of suicide. Our mission statement is always to help give hope to families of a bright future. That's why Anthony's story is so important to us. How awesome is it that God allowed our paths to cross on that fateful day? We are so honored that God allowed us to have been part of the period on the end of Anthony's sentence through those podcasts. Taking action on hope. (20:00) Many people get inspired after hearing success stories - but what makes people take action? For Anthony it was God's perfect timing. He had just gotten an amazing raise at work he had the money to invest in himself. Not only in business but in his own personal healing. (This is why Pat's podcast interviewing all these success stories was so instrumental to Anthony's story). What hope do you have that makes you want to take action...
Anthony started off this Friday with the question, where do we stand as a fan base on how we root for our teams in Philadelphia? In the world of “remakes” Cuz was building a cast for a remake of the TV Show “The White Shadow”. (00:00-27:40) We went to the phones for your take on it (27:40-1:01:37) Morning Thoughts – Today’s morning thoughts were a little on the anxious side. For Anthony, it was the feeling he experienced when he went to get his first vaccination shot. It apparently had all the presentation of a science fiction movie. For Andrew, had an appointment before coming to the station today. The start of the appointment did not start on time which put his arrival a little closer that he would have liked. (1:01:37-1:09:26) Back to your calls (1:09:26-1:36:36) Tim Legler from ESPN and Sirius XM NBA Radio joins the show to talk about the latest with the Sixers and to offer his take on Anthony's project of re-making the TV Show The White Shadow. (1:36:36-1:54:34) The remainder of the show was your calls and candidates for faces. (1:54:34-3:08:11) See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Anthony Trucks is a former NFL athlete for Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Washington Redskins, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was also an American Ninja Warrior on NBC where he became the first NFL athlete to hit a buzzer. Anthony's been featured on 6 national TV brands, became a 7 Figure gym owner, and is now a 6 figure consultant, International keynote speaker, and a Best selling author. Like many previous guests on this show, Anthony’s path to success has been anything but linear. In this episode Anthony talked about growing up in foster care and hitting his absolute low in 2011. He had lost his career in the NFL, discovered that his wife was having an affair, and his business was failing. In his words “everything that made me me was stripped away.” He went out on a search for rat poison and sent a text to say goodbye. The Cops found him before he could act and brought him home. When Anthony arrived he found 40 people waiting for him. A friend told Anthony that he’d thrown up because he thought that he’d lost a hero. For Anthony that was a turning point. He went back to the gym and started sharing his feelings in gym classes. Today Anthony uses his experiences to teach others about the importance of allowing their identity to be modified by life’s experiences, and shows them how to use it to springboard them to achieve bigger dreams and goals. He calls it the Identity Shift. Oh did I mention that Anthony’s High School Principal flat out told him that he would never make it. Proof positive that we should never let the opinions of others hold us back. And here’s a last fun fact. This episode was recorded before the SuperBowl. As a lifelong Chiefs fan I asked Anthony who he was picking. Let’s just say we should have made a wager on the game! One of the things that is most difficult for startups is getting the right people for your team. How do you get the right people? First of all, Anthony believes that you have to pray for the right people to come into the business. Without prayer, you won't know who's coming into your business. Second, he concentrates on the character of the person even before the technical skills of the individual. Anthony believes that when a person's character is good, everything else will follow. How do you develop leadership in your company? Anthony believes in leading by example and puts his people first. Anthony thinks of the situations of his people and takes appropriate actions from there. SEO Hacker is full of millennials and all my team members are younger than me. Imagine the chaos that happens in the office. You can't take out the fun because of everyone that's there. I've read the book Developing Leaders by John Maxwell recently. There's this one quote that particularly stuck with me. It went: “Hiring is like skydiving. Once you jump out, you're committed.” You have many applicants to choose from. But when you make the hire, you're stuck with that person. This is why you have to take your time in hiring that person. For Anthony, it's largely about his gut feel. Out of all the people that he hired, he can only think of less than three people that he truly believes was a mistake to hire. The rest was easy enough to ease into the company. When did you know that it was time to have an office? Anthony started at the conference table within his dad's office. After a few projects, around two or three years later, he was able to get his own office right beside his dad's office. His dad once told him that if they rented an office, it's just going to be another expense, he would rather invest right away so that they won't have any more expenses in the long run. It was only a small office because most of Anthony's employees work out in the field. How far into the business were you when you purchased the office? Anthony was able to purchase their first office just four years after starting operations. Have you ever worked for your dad? How was that experience? Anthony used to work for the family business when his own business began to show signs of good stability. He started with business development and helping out with the operations. Back then, Anthony had a pretty good idea on how to manage his time between working for his dad and working on his own business. Unfortunately, after his father's passing, the workload became quite difficult, especially since he had to deal with all that was happening. Are you the next in line to take over the company? How does it feel? Anthony is the one who will inherit the company and it's a big responsibility for him. He feels a lot of pressure especially since he will be the person with whom hundreds of employees will rely on. He has inherited the obligation of making sure that the company thrives and grows. He believes that even with these hardships and him becoming the new president of his family business, there is still one true CEO that will guide him along the way, God. How were you groomed to take on this role? Most second-generation family business owners would say that they are not yet ready, that they're not yet prepared when in reality, you will never find the best possible time to enter it. The perfect time is now. They should start doing it now and learn most of what you need along the way. These people only need to gather up confidence and have a bit more faith in God. With the passing of your father, how shocking was the transition for you? Anthony and his father w Support the show (https://tribe.leadershipstack.com/)

Mental health---we all want it, but how do we get it and keep it? How is it connected to physical health? What should I do if I know something is wrong, but I don’t know where to go for help? Why is there so much stigma around the admission that I may need therapy or medications? Most people have had to face these questions at some point, but coming out on the “other side” is different, and using the struggle and triumph of our own weaknesses can bring hope and healing to others. My guest today has “been there,” and he’s here to share advice, wisdom, and answers. Anthony Hayes had lived in the darkness of anxiety and depression for years, up until a decade ago. He has since become an author, podcaster, blogger, and most importantly, a father. He’s a good friend and I’m excited for you to meet Anthony! Be selfish Do you make time for yourself? If you aren’t healthy and taking care of yourself, then you can’t help others. It comes down to the familiar “airline oxygen mask on yourself first,” before you look to help someone else. Many people make the mistake of trying to help others without taking care of themselves. Taking care of ourselves gets lost in the shuffle of life. Anthony’s advice is to make the time for yourself, whatever that means for you. You deserve it! TWEET: “Make the time for yourself, whatever that means for you. You deserve it!” @ahayes_mmi What to do when you feel “off” Would you have the courage to seek help if you knew you were mentally unwell? For Anthony, there wasn’t a major event or trigger, but he just woke up one day and felt “off.” He knew he needed professional help, so he arranged to see a doctor. He wrote his book as a therapy session for himself, when he dealt with major depressive disorder, ADHD, and insomnia. He says you have to WANT to change and find the balance, motivation, and medications that will work for you. It’s a long journey that requires daily maintenance. TWEET: “You have to WANT to change and find the balance, motivation, and medications that will work for you.” @ahayes_mmi Living with depression How many people around you are dealing with a diagnosed depressive disorder? You probably don’t know, because there are people all around us who live fully functioning lives--in spite of battling depression. Most of us assume that a mental health issue is debilitating and will keep someone from living life daily, but that’s not the case. We all need to realize that our mental health has an effect on our loved ones around us--it’s not just about me. Anthony copes with his down days in ways he has found to be successful for him, and the dark days are less frequent now than they used to be. He finds healing in writing and music, and now uses his experiences to reach out and help others. TWEET: “There are people all around us who live fully functioning lives--in spite of battling depression.” @ahayes_mmi Guest Recommendation: ONE action for a dream chaser to take--”Create small habits every single day that will propel you to bigger attainable goals and habits. Integrate those into your daily life. Don’t be stagnant, but keep trying new things.” OUTLINE OF THIS EPISODE: [:31] Why I wanted Anthony on the show [1:23] Looking at your vibes here at the end of 2018 [2:25] A new year and a new chance [5:15] Finding time to be selfish [8:15] A selfish move for Anthony [10:00] Anthony’s experience with mental health [13:20] Finding self-realization [14:46] Constant maintenance of mental health [16:00] It’s OK to admit that you need help [18:39] Why mental health resources are so important [22:44] Advocates for mental health [24:07] Living life with depression [26:51] Seeing the physical effects of mental illness [27:59] Getting help for mental health for YOU [29:55] Shining the light of positivity and survival [34:55] ONE action for a dream chaser RESOURCES MENTIONED: Anthony on Facebook Anthony on Twitter Anthony on Instagram Anthony on LinkedIn Anthony's Podcast Anthony's Website The Science of Being: Surviving Depression by Anthony Hayes National Alliance on Mental Illness: www.nami.org TWEETS YOU CAN USE: TWEET: Blame whoever you want, as long as it’s not yourself. @ahayes_mmi #chasingdreams TWEET: Everybody needs a refresher and a do-over every now and then. @ahayes_mmi #chasingdreams TWEET: Your physical health affects your mental health, and vice versa. @ahayes_mmi #chasingdreams TWEET: Making time for yourself is really important. Show Notes Anthony's Story... Anthony was deployed to Iraq in 2009 and 2010 When he came home he was expecting to be excited, free and have a new life, but he suffered badly from PTSD. He found he was having nightmares and claustrophobia and was often frightened when he was driving. He eventually when I had to get his bachelors and Masters degree in health and started working at A health center While he was working at the health center he did a workshop for men on men’s health that was received very well. He also noticed a lack of opportunities for men to talk about their own health issues and out of the workshop his his coaching business and other workshops began. Why Men's Health? Anthony finds that men need to talk about their struggles. He finds that men have a lack of purpose and that they are distracted and that this takes a toll on their well-being. What is your wealth without your health? What is wealth when you can’t enjoy it. We have to take a step back and ask what’s most important? Everything that is in your life right now is a result of the decisions that you made. When men feel fulfilled they are in a better position to engage in their relationships and give more. Anthony does what he does because he’s been through so many things and he’s come to accept the things that have happened to him and he’s become a much better person because of those things. Anthony says anxiety is a symptom of other things that are going on such as a lack of sleep. My whole goal for men is self-determination and self-efficacy where they can have the motivation and the skills to achieve the desires that they want. Anthony's WiFi Business Lifestyle At one point Anthony realized that his life is more important than sitting in traffic three hours a day. That led him to move where it takes five minutes to get somewhere. His point is you choose your life. Anthony wanted the Wi-Fi life. He designed his business so that he could run it from anywhere in the world. Anthony is about to travel the world. He made a plan and made some choices to make it happen. Anthony hopes to inspire other men to live more adventurously. Anthony believes that the Wi-Fi lifestyle is all about the adventure. For Anthony, it’s about getting out there and experiencing life. He thinks because this hasn’t really been promoted for men that it’s been lost and suppressed. We get so wrapped up in work and so many other things that we lose our sense and desire for adventure. He hopes to reignite the adventurous side of men while improving their well-being. Leverage: One way that Anthony is leveraging his time is by working with clients in a group setting. What has recently inspired Anthony? Anthony’s source of inspiration is his adventure he’s going on and a documentary called 180° South.
