Matt sits down with Dr. Andy Garrett, a licensed clinical psychologist, in a profound discussion about the transformative power of aligning actions with core values. Together, they unpack the psychology behind success, offering financial advisors a fresh perspective on achieving sustainable growth. Central to their conversation is the concept of discovering one's "true north" - a process of identifying and adhering to core values that can drive both personal satisfaction and professional success in the financial advisory industry. Dr. Andy and Matt challenge the conventional wisdom that external success alone guarantees fulfillment. Instead, they propose a more holistic approach: by aligning your practice with your values, you can unlock unprecedented growth and cultivate a deeper sense of purpose. The discussion extends beyond theory, exploring how core values can practically shape every facet of a financial advisory practice. From nurturing client relationships to structuring the overall business model, they illustrate how a value-driven approach can revolutionize the way advisors operate and thrive in their field. Patrick Lewis started working at Superior Rigging and Erecting Company, his dad's place of employment, at the tender age of 10. By the time he was 16, he knew he wanted to own the company. By age 27, in 2001, Patrick and his partners bought it. You would think someone with that kind of focus and drive would be strutting his stuff, but Patrick, while appearing confident on the outside, was plagued by insecurity.Patrick was suffering an identity crisis. His need for approval prevented him from having meaningful connections because, he said, he worried that people would find out he's not that smart a guy."When you're constantly worried of what someone's thoughts are of what you're doing, how you look, do you have enough money, are you making the right decisions, everything in your mind is insecure. Every thought that creeps in is a doubt," he said. While having been a follower of Jesus his whole life, it was not until Patrick's mid-40s — with the help of NFL player Aaron Walker, a therapist, and lots of prayer — that he broke free of his imposter syndrome. That was the day that when God "verbally" spoke to him. But the conversation did not start quietly, as he describes in the clip above. "I started by talking to God," he said. "He talked back to me, and he let me know that he loved me."Since then, Patrick has not had a bad day since. He has established authentic relationships with family and friends, coached the Georgia Impact girls' softball team to a 2018 PGF National Championship and .883 winning percentage over 13 years, and was named one of the top five coaches in the nation. He also grew his company fourfold. Patrick attributes his success to the peace he has achieved in having a relationship with God. "Anybody that knew me during this whole journey would tell you that 'all Patrick ever wanted in his life was peace,' and that's all I ever have now."I was one of the first people Patrick met at a Tommy Breedlove Legendary Mastermind event almost two years ago. I am fortunate since in the old days, Patrick confesses that he would never have joined one of those meetings for fear of being vulnerable. Now, he's out sharing the word.Want to learn more about Patrick's journey? You can DM him on Instagram or reach him through his company website.

This one speaks to the tangled web that a public, private, family or organizational individual can wind up getting tangled up in, and bent out of shape in his or her efforts to be good and helpful and dedicated and reliable and for all intents and purposes a servant of others. Not a servant in a terrible and abusive manner, but just because that's how it's built; and they love the person, people or the task. But sometimes, we forget one important thing in this process… to service ourselves on the way too! Wow. Does that sound selfish? That's exactly the problem, when you are the powerful Servant Leader who takes the job seriously, you AND EVERYONE ELSE can take your sustenance lightly along the way. Don't do that! And receivers, make sure you check in every now and then too, to make for a fair and equitable LOVING Field. Then maybe sometimes, we can all remember TO SERVICE EACH OTHER!! "And what I found out, Grant, that I was building a level of success financially, but I was doing it from a huge relationship deficit. And I didn't know my daughters like I should, and I didn't know my wife like I should."This week, Grant sat down with Aaron Walker, aka Big A, to talk about how to build a life of significance outside of what you do. Grant often says, “who you are is more important than what you do,” and this episode really hits on that. As driven people, it's easy to get caught up in the outcomes, the money, and the success, but it's important to be intentional about curating relationships that will enrich your life and make it mean more. "Do an evaluation, like, what gives me energy? What are the things that only I can do? Because when they are taking energy, you've only got so much bandwidth, there's only so much determination you can pull from, and you're going to crash and hit the wall, which I've done a couple of times I'm not proud of, but I had to take months off for a period of time because I'm such a hard charger and I want to accomplish, I want to go, but I'm like, you know what? I can't do that. So now what we've done is devised a plan and a strategy. I'm going to work within this framework. I'm going to work this many hours, and whatever I can get done, I'm going to get done.”In this episode, Grant and Big A talk about: 00:00 Who Big A is and his story. 05:45 Success is fantastic, but how do you balance it with significance? 08:04 Why boundaries and accountability are important. 09:55 The importance of delegation.14:43 Optimizing for success at work and at home. 16:44 How to develop better relationships with the people that matter. 22:41 What does it look like to create boundaries when delegation isn't possible?25:23 Embracing commitment to your people before your work. 26:37 How speaking fits into Big A's life and time commitments.31:43 Big A's mastermind group 34:07 How to find quality accountability partners for your life.Episode Resources: Download Big A's ResourcesGet Free Speaker ResourcesBook a Call with The Speaker LabCalculate Your Speaking FeeJoin The Speaker Lab Community on FacebookSubscribe on Apple PodcastsSubscribe on SpotifySee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. -Proverbs 27:17 Our guest today on Strong By Design is Aaron Walker, the founder and visionary for the Iron Sharpens Iron Mastermind group. A group dedicated to helping people live a life of success and significance. If we are honest with ourselves and truly on a journey of self-improvement, to get better every day personally and professionally and to remain motivated to put in the work, one thing is for certain… We need to lean on people we trust to keep us on the narrow path. This is not necessarily about the bank account, the possessions and the celebrity that comes with most success. This has more to do with finding true fulfillment, purpose, and identity in yourself along the way. When you are surrounded by people who know you deeply and you lean into their wisdom, truth, and strength, you unleash your greatest superpowers.   “I came home with a pocket full of money to a house full of strangers... I don't want that happening to other business people, and I want to go on a quest to help people understand that you can have great success and significance simultaneously.” -- Aaron Walker   Time Stamps 00:00 – Redefining success: Identifying what matters most to you 01:06 – Welcome to the 'Strong By Design' podcast 03:48 – Meet today's special guest, Aaron Walker of ‘Iron Sharpens Iron' mastermind group 05:54 – Aaron shares how he got into the business industry, and a tragic accident that changed his life 13:35 – Discover how his mastermind group got started 17:57 – What is a mastermind group, and what makes ‘Iron Sharpens Iron' different? 25:14 – The power of accountability 35:30 – Are you a giver or a taker? 43:55 – The importance of community groups and why it matters 50:46 – Level up: Aaron on why you should invest in yourself 54:04 – Aaron shares one of his client's powerful testimonies 1:02:36 – Where you can go to learn more about ‘Iron Sharpens Iron'     Resources: ViewFromtheTop.com   Connect w/ Aaron: Instagram Facebook YouTube   Connect w/ CriticalBench:  Youtube Facebook Instagram CriticalBench.com StrongByDesignPodcast.com

Excellence, Leadership, and Mentorship. Those words exemplify the life of this week's Team Never Quit guest, Aaron Walker. Aaron and Marcus kick around the adventures of entrepreneurship, a spectacular marriage, and how he applies that which he learns from his experiences – good and bad - to propel him to new heights. After learning tough lessons from a horrific life event, and then being guided by the finest financial and spiritual leaders, Aaron now plays it forward by mentoring others. In this episode you will hear: I didn't have anything at 18, and I was able to retire at 27. I played golf every day, I fished every day, and you can't do that but so much, because you gotta have a purpose. While driving, I watched an older man walk across two lanes, he got to the median, and stopped. As soon as I got to him, he took off running to catch a bus, and I ran over him. It was literally like my life came to a standstill. One day I made the decision: I've been chasing money since I was 8 years old. I'm 40 now and I'm retiring – I'm through. Through a series of events, I spent 21 years sponsoring Dave Ramsey's show, and we became best of friends. The Mastermind radically changed my life. We can't quit. People need you. You can't sit on the sidelines. We have to get up because nobody can live your life but you. I had great success financially, but I had no significance. I want my legacy to be that those I come in contact with are different as a result of having interacted with me. I want to leave a legacy of helping, giving, supporting, encouraging, lifting people up and helping them accomplish their dreams and goals. God is always working in the background. The thing that I thought was taking me out was the catalyst for transforming the lives of other people. We all need trusted advisors. Don't do what I did and have a pocketful of money only to come home to a house full of strangers. You can go faster alone, but you can go much further together. Failure is in not trying, not in not succeeding. Go out there today. Go for it. Never quit.
