Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children
Friends of the Rosary, Today, January 22, the Catholic Church in the U.S. celebrates the Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children. We Parishes and schools may celebrate the "Mass for Giving Thanks to God for the Gift of Human Life" and for the dignity of human life. Through our natural intelligence and Divine Revelation, we become aware of the value of the gift of life. We comprehend that it is better to be alive than never have been in existence. Therefore, we understand that we must protect the life of the unborn or any who might be unjustly treated. We are created to be collaborators in the salvation of the World! Jesus, I Trust In You! Come, Holy Spirit, come! Mk 3:1-6 Jesus entered the synagogue. There was a man there who had a withered hand. They watched Jesus closelyto see if he would cure him on the sabbathso that they might accuse him.He said to the man with the withered hand,“Come up here before us.”Then he said to the Pharisees,“Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath rather than to do evil,to save life rather than to destroy it?”But they remained silent.Looking around at them with angerand grieved at their hardness of heart,Jesus said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.”He stretched it out and his hand was restored. The Pharisees went out and immediately took counselwith the Herodians against him to put him to death.
For 22 January 2025, Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children, based on Mark 3:1-6
The unborn child is always an innocent party, and no law may permit the taking of his life. Even when a child is conceived through rape or incest, the fault is not the child's, who should not suffer death for others' sins. Today Deacon Harold talks about the Prayer for Legal Protection of Unborn Children and also looking into Soulful Psalm 83:1-9.
From the Gospel acclamation: “Jesus preached the Gospel of the Kingdom and cured every disease among the people." A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark (Mark 3:1-6) He said to the man with the withered hand, “Come up here before us.” Then he said to the Pharisees, “Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath rather than to do evil, to save life rather than to destroy it?” But they remained silent. In the synagogue on the sabbath, the Pharisees watch Jesus closely in order to trap him. Without saying a word, the Pharisees speak from their heart, but the words of Jesus silence them, just as he commands unclean spirits to be silent. Mark tells us that Jesus looked around at the Pharisees with anger and was grieved at their hardness of heart. After the silence, Jesus says one more thing: "Stretch out your hand." In the stillness that follows, Jesus restores the man's withered hand. The Pharisees sought a way to take the life of Jesus, stretching out their hand to the Herodians and hearing a legion of voices tell them that by destroying the Prince of Peace, peace will be restored. In the midst of the day, will we take time in silence to seek healing from the Lord, to hear the voice of Jesus say, "Stretch out your hand"? God, help me reflect on these words of Jesus on this day of prayer for the legal protection of unborn children. Just as he spoke in tenderness to the man with the withered hand, he speaks to everyone who calls on his name and seeks to be restored to you through the power of the Holy Spirit. "Stretch out your hand," Jesus says, inviting us once again to be restored to the divine mercy of his Father—our Father—and the promise of eternal life as your children. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Assisted suicide could very well become legal in the United Kingdom despite strong opposition from ex-prime ministers, clergy, and healthcare leaders. This is just the latest example of how the culture of death is gaining strength across the West. On this week's episode of The Van Maren Show, Jonathon sits down with John Deighan of the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children to discuss the possibility of legal assisted suicide in the UK, as well as the most effective strategies for pro-lifers to fight back against the culture of death.Download the all-new LSNTV App now, available on iPhone and Android!LSNTV Apple Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/lsntv/id6469105564LSNTV Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lifesitenews.app****SHOP ALL YOUR FUN AND FAVORITE LIFESITE MERCH! https://shop.lifesitenews.com/+++Connect with John-Henry Westen and all of LifeSiteNews on social media:LifeSite: https://linktr.ee/lifesitenewsJohn-Henry Westen: https://linktr.ee/jhwesten Hosted on Acast. It's Wednesday, September 25th, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Christian suffering in Gaza Christians continue to suffer in the Gaza Strip during the Israel-Hamas War. International Christian Concern reports there are an estimated 900 Christians in the territory. They have faced the hardship of war with death and devastation all around them. Beyond that, Christians there who have converted from Islam face persecution if their new faith is discovered. Many Christians have sought refuge in church buildings during the conflict only to have them bombed. And believers who leave for countries like Egypt and Israel face the challenges of starting a new life. Please pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ in Gaza. Hebrews 13:3 says, “Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them, and those who are mistreated, since you also are in the body.” Scottish abortion mill buffer zones Buffer zones around abortion mills went into effect in Scotland yesterday. The new legislation bans praying and offering help to women outside abortion mills. Violations carry fines of up to £10,000 -- the equivalent of over $13,000. Humza Yousef, a member of the Scottish Parliament, loves the idea of criminalizing free speech outside Scottish abortion mills. YOUSEF: “You want to protest anywhere you should be protesting outside of the Scottish Parliament or wherever else. But where women are going to get an abortion, it can be one of the most traumatic days of their lives. They don't need to be faced with that type of protest.” Lois McLatchie of Alliance Defending Freedom U.K. was incredulous about the parliament's proposal to prohibit compassionate Christians from offering a woman help and hope before she hires an abortionist to kill her unborn baby. McLATCHIE: “We want to make sure that we're keeping a free and open society and making sure that these buffer zones don't go so as far and be so disproportionate as to take out perfectly legal and good activities like prayer and charitable offers of help. Let women help, let volunteers help, and keep those choices open for women.” The Society for the Protection of Unborn Children is protesting the buffer zones. John Deighan, the CEO of the pro-life group, said, “As well as outlawing compassion, buffer zones set a terrible precedent, breaching fundamental rights to free speech and freedom of religion. … Buffer zones have introduced thoughtcrime into Scottish society. The Society for the Protection of Unborn Children will stand up to this assault on our freedoms.” Judge rules in favor of Catholic groups in abortion case In the U.S., a federal judge ruled in favor of Catholic groups in an abortion-related case on Monday. At issue was the federal government's enforcement of new regulations that would require employers to offer time off for employees to get abortions. The regulations also included accommodations for in vitro fertilization visits and protections for transgenderism. The ruling protects 7,000 Catholic parishes and 1,380 Catholic employers. The ruling noted, “This challenge to religious liberty is a reminder of the danger of government action that is clearly anti-religion.” Kamala Harris raised four times as much money as Trump Vice President Kamala Harris raised $189 million for her presidential campaign last month. Meanwhile, during the same time, former President Donald Trump only raised $44 million. However, the two candidates remain virtually tied in national polls. The latest CNN poll shows 48% of voters support Harris and 47% support Trump. In terms of swing states, the latest New York Times poll found that Trump leads Harris in Arizona, Georgia, and North Carolina by two to five percentage points. Overdose deaths dropped by 10% The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released provisional data on drug overdose deaths last week. Overdose deaths dropped by 10% between April 2023 and April 2024. It's the first decline since drug deaths spiked during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the decline, there are still about 100,000 overdose deaths per year, a trend which has been in place since 2021. States with big declines in overdose deaths include Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, Arizona, Maine, and Vermont. Other states have not seen much declines or have even gotten worse like Alaska, Colorado, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming. People with an anti-Biblical worldview more prone to anxiety And finally, Dr. George Barna released a report suggesting the consequences of anti-Biblical worldviews are often misdiagnosed and treated as mental illness. An estimated one quarter of adults have some kind of diagnosable mental disorder. The number increases to a third among Millennials and Gen Z. The most common type of disorder is anxiety. The report found numerous unbiblical beliefs often produce feelings of anxiety, depression, and fear. Such beliefs include having no purpose in life, rejecting God, denying objective truth, and accepting reincarnation. Dr. Barna noted, “People do not frequently experience anxiety, depression, or fear as a result of possessing the Biblical worldview. The profile of those who possess a Biblical worldview also tend to have longer-lasting and happier marriages, a clear and compelling sense of meaning in life, more enduring and satisfying relationships, greater spiritual clarity and joy, a deeper commitment to forgiving other people, and regular engagement in service to other people.” Romans 8:15 says, “For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear. Instead, you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry out, ‘Abba, Father!'” Close And that's The Worldview on this Wednesday, September 25th, in the year of our Lord 2024. It's Thursday, May 30th, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark India imprisoned 70 Christians Officials in the North Indian state of Uttar Pradesh are holding nearly 70 Christians in jail. They faced arrest under the state's 2020 anti-conversion law. Authorities in the area stormed church meetings and arrested pastors on false charges of forcefully converting Hindus. Once imprisoned, it is very difficult to get Christians out since officials often deny bail applications. Please pray for our persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ in India, ranked 11th on the Open Doors' World Watch List of nations where it is most difficult to be a Christian. In Matthew 5:11-12, Jesus said, “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in Heaven.” 20,000 French Christians March for Jesus Thousands of people joined the March for Jesus over the weekend in cities across France. The motto of the march was “Lets bear witness publicly and in unity about our faith in Jesus Christ.” Organizers wanted it to be “a joyful and peaceful testimony of a living faith that wants to touch hearts, through the praise, prayer and proclamation of the Word of God which are at the heart of the march.” Remarkably, 20,000 marchers turned out in Paris, including many young people. 250,000 dead babies in England and Wales New data shows over 250,000 babies were killed by abortion in England and Wales in 2022. That's the highest on record and an increase of 17% over 2021. The Society for the Protection of Unborn Children noted, “In 2022, medical abortion (drugs/pills) accounted for 86% of all abortions, up from 48% in 2012. Abortions taking place entirely at home increased by 9% between 2021 and 2022, amounting to 61% of all abortions.” 40% of British Christians do not evangelize Also in British news, a recent survey found many Christians in the U.K. don't want to talk about their faith with others. The Institute for the Impact of Faith in Life found nearly 40% of Christians agreed with the statement, “I prefer not to tell people about my faith or religious belief.” However, exclusionist Christians were much more likely to talk about their faith. The survey identified only 28% of Christians as exclusionist, those who say their faith is the only true faith. Speaking of the name of Jesus, the Apostle Peter said in Acts 4:12, “There is no other name under Heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Louisiana bans using force or fraud to give pregnant woman abortion pill In the U.S., Republican Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry signed the Abortion by Fraud Criminalization Act into law last week. The measure bans people from using force or fraud to get a pregnant woman to take an abortion-inducing drug. The law also makes such drugs only available through prescription. Republican state Sen. Thomas Pressly sponsored the legislation. The Office of the Governor noted that Pressly was inspired to do this after his sister was “unknowingly poisoned by her former husband while she was pregnant by the abortion-inducing drug Misoprostol.” Good outcome for Christian who toppled Satanist statue In January, authorities in Iowa charged a Christian Navy veteran with a felony hate crime. The month before, Michael Cassidy had toppled a Satanist statue that was in the state's capitol building. He faced up to five years in jail if convicted. But, last Friday, officials dropped the felony charge. Cassidy posted on Facebook, “Not today, Satan. Pleased to announce the Iowa District Attorney just dropped their absurd felony hate crime charge and instead offered a deferred judgement misdemeanor (a fine, no jail time, nothing permanent on my record), which I accepted. Many thanks to my family, my lawyers, my community, and the many Christians who have supported us. … When Christians stick together, we can, and we will, win.” God is lining up six planets And finally, God has more celestial events in store this year. In recent months, many experienced a solar eclipse and a rare display of the Northern Lights. Next, six planets are set to align in the early morning hours of June 3rd. CBS News reports, “During the solar spectacle, the orbits of Jupiter, Mercury, Uranus, Mars, Neptune, and Saturn will bring the six planets to the same side of the sun. The planets won't form an actual straight line in space, because of the elliptical shapes of their orbits ... but from some angles on Earth, they will appear to be aligned.” Observers will need a telescope or powerful binoculars. And the East Coast will have the best view of the planetary parade. Psalm 19:1 says, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.” Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Thursday, May 30th, in the year of our Lord 2024. Scripture Reflection for May 21, 2024: What the Unborn Children Teach Us by Priests for Life
Our first topic in this Q&A episode is a recent study which found that in 2023, the first full calendar year after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade and the constitutional right to an abortion, total abortions actually increased. Despite 21 states enacting full or partial abortion bans, more women not fewer are ending their pregnancies. How can this have happened, and what might it tell the pro-life movement about its tactics and priorities if it seeks to make abortion not simply unlawful, but unthinkable? Next we respond to a listener who is wondering if we might have got food culture a bit wrong in a church setting? Hospitality and sharing meals together is a huge part of Christianity, but is it possible to do so while making fresh, nutritious food from scratch? Should Christians be wary of ultra-processed food? Have we accidentally baptised our existing middle-class preferences for organic produce and home-made recipes, and pretended it is somehow more virtuous or moral? Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children
Friends of the Rosary: Today is the Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children. Parishes, schools, or religious formation programs may celebrate the Mass for the dignity of human life, giving thanks to God for the gift of human life. It's a simple truth: It is better to be alive than never have been in existence. As a result, we worship and love the Giver of this gift. This love is what moves us to protect the life of the unborn or any who might be unjustly treated. We are also led to protect women who might feel tempted or forced to commit abortion, as we know the devastating consequences that abortion will have in their lives. We have to do everything we can to convince the many perpetrators of abortion — medical personnel, pro-abortion activists, and politicians — of their errors, so they repent and change their ways, both for their benefit and for the benefit of society.
