On this episode we're joined by Macy Ledbetter, a well-informed top flight biologist in Texas who's monitoring the New World Screw Worm situation in Texas with maximum urgency. It's a red hot topic in South Texas and many southern gamekeepers are paying attention to the outbreak. The screw worm and it's near eradication is a captivating story and tribute to science. The fact that it has fought its way back has ranchers/hunters/gamekeepers concerned, and for good reason. Macy does an eloquent job explaining it all. WE salute the agencies that are fighting around the clock to protect the livestock and wildlife that could be effected. Even if you're not close to Texas, this is a story everyone needs to know about. This week we are joined by native plant specialist Kyle Lybarger and Cahaba Riverkeeper David Butler and we learn about a really unique and special plant. The Cahaba River Lilies bloom each spring and attract world wide attention. Once upon a time, many southern rivers had these lilies blooming on their shoals in the spring. Today only a few places still have them. These delicate white blooms create a sea of white along the shoals of the Cahaba River in their remaining places. Why? Because of mans influence the rivers and water levels have changed dramatically and eliminated the habitat these shoal lilies need. Thankfully we have people like David Butler and others that are fighting to help preserve the plants, habitat and the river. We think you will agree the story is amazing. Listen, Learn and Enjoy. On this episode we are joined by Dr. Ashley Dumas again and she explains the fascinating story of when Hernando de Soto's expedition met the Mobilian people in October 1540 at the Battle of Mabila in present-day Alabama. This violent clash—triggered by a hostage standoff with Chief Tuskaloosa—led to the destruction of the palisaded town and remains one of the largest, bloodiest battles fought on North American soil. As Gamekeepers, we love the land and this story intertwines over much of the South. Their survival and dependence on wildlife speaks to the abundance that was once here. Scottish gamekeepers may refuse to help tackle wildfires in a dispute over licences for muirburn. Muirburn is the controlled burning of heather and other vegetation to encourage new growth, mostly to raise game birds for shooting. It takes place from autumn to spring, but from January next year it will be licensed and it will be an offence to carry out any burning without a licence. Gamekeepers say controlled burning reduces the amount of dead vegetation which fuels wildfires and if they can't do it, they say tackling future wildfires will become too dangerous. All week we've been following the harvest. It started early for many and one of the country's largest cherry growers in Herefordshire says warmer winters and summers are shortening the growing season. Britain's newest and largest Green Bridge is under construction in the Cotswolds as part of a half billion-pound road building scheme. When it's completed at the end of the year, the bridge won't be tarmacked - instead it'll be planted with grasses, wildflowers and shrubs designed to create a crossing for wildlife, and walkers over a new eight lane highway near Cheltenham.Presenter = Charlotte Smith Producer = Rebecca Rooney

This week we dive into the process of acquiring a suppressor/silencer. Brandon Maddox, the Founder of Silencer Central, joins us to explain trusts vs individual purchases, the new improved process and much more. We love the idea of reducing noise pollution on our farms and the silencer seems like a perfect tool to help a Gamekeeper when harvesting does. Squirrel hunters swear by them. Adults and especially kids can benefit from the reduced decibel exposure and recoil. They just make sense. We learned a lot from the conversation and were impressed with Brandon's desire to make sure wildlife conservation benefits from the process. Listen, Learn and Enjoy. On this week's BONUS podcast we're joined by celebrated pro bass fisherman Gerald Swindle. He's also a very serious hunter and Gamekeeper so we had a lot to talk about. Our plan was to get him to explain a year in the life of a largemouth bass (which he skillfully does), in order to comprehend what they are doing each season of the year. The GMAN's professional insight into their behavior can help any fisherman. However, we got diverse and talked about the pride of owning property and the challenges that come with it. In addition, we had a deep discussion on fishing tactics, pressure, live scopes and whether or not we're making fish go nocturnal public waters. This one is way more than fishing. Doug has some incredible insight into what it takes to grow a big whitetail and he surprised us with some of his answers. He also explained to us what he knew about the Mitch Rompola buck that was killed in Michigan back in 1998. It was said to be the largest typical ever killed and then faded from view just a quick.
