Meet Scott Schuster, a passionate champion of education and lifelong learning whose visionary leadership is reshaping Cincinnati's nonprofit scene. As Vice President of Philanthropy and President of the Cincinnati Museums Foundation, Scott spearheads bold fundraising strategies that help the Cincinnati Museum Center spark curiosity and wonder across science, regional history, and beyond. Under his guidance, CMC successfully wrapped its largest campaign ever—raising over $123 million to unveil 20 state-of-the-art exhibits, galleries, and research labs—and launched “Project Treasures,” a new $40 million initiative ensuring the museum's historic and scientific gems remain protected for generations to come.A career fundraiser at heart, Scott's talent for building authentic, mission-driven relationships has powered transformative projects everywhere he's served, including Archbishop Moeller High School and the University of Cincinnati Foundation, where he played a pivotal role in a $120 million construction project for UC's Lindner College of Business. Today, he continues to inspire the next generation of marketing leaders as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at UC, while also serving as a Great Parks of Hamilton County Board of Park Commissioner. Named one of Cincinnati Business Courier's “Forty Under 40,” Scott Schuster blends passion, expertise, and a commitment to community—making him a driving force behind nonprofit innovation and a must-listen voice for anyone interested in the power of philanthropy.

The February issue of Parks & Recreation magazine is out now, and I'm excited to finally be back with a bonus episode since we had taken a break on bonus episodes over the last few months. And, the reason I'm so excited about it is that we are celebrating the second annual 30 Under 30! Parks & Recreation magazine's 30 Under 30 honors the top young park and recreation professionals who serve as everyday superheroes in their respective communities, and while you can read about all 30 of these incredible professionals in the article, I'm honored to welcome two of this year's honorees to the show today, as well as Michael Biedenstein, NRPA's volunteer and awards manager (who also helped us kick off this awesome program last year before he came on board as a member of the NRPA staff). Joining us today is Rosie Santos, a manager for Strong Consulting at the Mayerson Academy, where she coaches and consults with park and recreation professionals, as well as neighborhood leaders and other community changemakers on how to bring out the best in themselves, their teams and their organizations. In her previous role, Rosie served as the conservation and parks manager for Great Parks of Hamilton County in Ohio. We're also joined by Hashim Taylor, who recently began his new role as director of parks and recreation for City of Cedar Rapids in Iowa, where he leads the park and recreation staff by overseeing parks, recreation, forestry, golf, aquatics, Ushers Ferry, and administration for the department. In his previous roles, Hashim served as the recreation program manager for Prince William County and worked in the parks and recreation departments for City of Virginia Beach and City of Alexandria, Virginia. Tune in to learn why Rosie and Hashim are so deserving of this award, as well as what being recognized as a 30 Under 30 recipient means to each of them. You'll also learn: What excites us about this year's 30 Under 30 class How Rosie and Hashim each got started in the park and recreation profession The “why” behind each of their work and some career highlights What the future of parks and recreation looks like to young professionals, and much more! The Boonshoft Museum of Discovery includes a small, AZA accredited Discovery Zoo.  Last summer their Live Animals staff assisted Great Parks of Hamilton County and the Ohio EPA with a salamander rescue after an oil spill from the Mid-Valley Pipeline in the Oak Glen Nature Preserve (March 2014).  The staff assisted with collecting animals from the site and cared for nearly 100 streamside salamanders for months in their quarantine area, until most of them could be released back into the local habitat after cleanup.      It was determined that two of the streamside salamanders should not be released, and they are still living at the Museum and are used for conservation/local wildlife education purposes.  The partnership also resulted in some additional Earth Day programming with the Ohio EPA, so guests were able to learn more the spill and cleanup, as well as about the animals themselves. www.ConservationCelebrations.com
