We're back with another episode of I Had Trials Once and this time we're joined by former Chester & Runcorn Linnets manager...Calum McIntyre Cal sits down with Gaz & Jord as he discusses his time in football having recently left his role as Chester manager. The lads start the pod talking about Cal's early life at Chester and his time living with Gary Stopforth and his late night binges of Top Boy. They then talk in depth about how Calum got into football management, working with Chester's youth team before being promoted to the first team and forming part of Jonno & Bern's backroom staff. The trio then chat about Cal's step into first team management with Runcorn Linnets, signing players for the first time and some of his most memorable moments as a gaffer. Cal then speaks about how he ended up becoming Chester's first team manager, their recent FA Cup runs and the difficulties of working at a fan own club. Cal continues with how his time at Chester came to an end, why fan abuse crossed the line with a fan storming the changing room & also calling his house at 3am plus how he found out Phil Parkinson was replacing him at the club. Finally, he talks about what is next for him in his career and why he can't wait to get back into football management.
It's all going off down the club this week, including an unwanted new member of the squad, an Insurance scam between the sheets, Kapper popper pants, and Parky's new look. Get in touch: Fridayclub@undrthecosh.co.uk Learn more about your ad choices.

Parky drops by SDH AM to break down the challenges of mentoring and what is faced with mentees these days- and, sometimes, those that are influencing the mentees day-to-day in parents and coaches
We're back in the race. After a brilliant smash and grab against Sheffield United Rhys, Tim and Andy ask if that was the best win of the season. We examine just how Parky's battered army managed to turn it around at Bramall Lane and what it means for the play-off picture. Rhys lays into our fans in an amazing, and slightly unhinged tirade, while we hail Sam Smith, Issa Kabore and George Thomason for their recent efforts. We also examine a brilliant win with a brilliant goal for Wrexham Women, calls up to the Welsh side and give the sad news of the passing of a well-known Wrexham fan.We look ahead to Wales' crunch match and ask the question ‘what' your biggest internal celebration' Josh Windass style.#wrexham #wrexhamafc #wxmafc #wrexhamfc #watfordfc #hullcity #sheffieldunited #ryanrenolds #robmcelhenney You can buy tickets for the Live Night here: https://www.mghall.co.uk/events/fearl...Enjoy this Fat Boar-sponsored episode? Tim, Andy and Rhys are ecstatic as they look at both amazing victories. As well as reflecting on Jenny Sugarman's history makers we ask: was that Lewis O'Brien's AND George Thomason's best game for Wrexham and how much credit must go to Parky for moulding ANOTHER promotion hunting team?We also look at a near assault on one our players, ask if Ben Sheaf really is out for the season and what do we think about our chances against Portsmouth. So, after two long years of campaigning, this week the Parky Charter – our set of demands for the government – had its moment in Parliament. With the Movers & Shakers and other supporters in attendance, MPs debated the need for improved care for people with Parkinson's across the UK. But what were the important moments from the debate? What wasn't mentioned? And where do we go from here? To celebrate how far we've come and mull over our next steps, the gang gathered back at Gillian HQ (though she was regrettably laid up with a fever) where the Parky Charter was first conceived, back in the winter of 2023. Rhys, Andy, Liam and Tim discuss what could be a statement win for Wrexham in the Championship - a 3-2 win over unbeaten Coventry City. And we all have an opinion on owner Rob McElhenney's tweet backing Parky which some have taken as ‘having a go' at fans who booed against Cardiff. But it's all about Coventry as a Kieffer Moore-inspired Dragons put them to the sword. The Friday Free Kick returns with Beyond Goals Mentoring's Michael ParkhurstWe look back at the last season's growth at BGM and what they've learned as a business and Parky as a mentor- plus what they're looking to accomplish in the next season...
Our profile this week is of a Parky on a mission: Alison Anderson who is, as you listen to this episode, cycling across America to raise money for Cure Parkinson's. This isn't Alison's first marathon bike ride, she's previously zoomed across Southeast Asia, raising money and awareness. An inspiration for both her athletic endeavour and fundraising prowess, Alison is living, cycling proof that Parkinson's doesn't have to stop you in your tracks! You can still sponsor Alison's bike ride across America – go here to send your support!Sponsored by Boardwave, who support Cure Parkinson's.Presented by Rory Cellan-Jones, Gillian Lacey-Solymar, Mark Mardell, Paul Mayhew-Archer, Sir Nicholas Mostyn and Jeremy Paxman.Produced and edited by Nick Hilton for Podot.Sound mixing by Ewan Cameron.Music by Alex Stobbs. This Wednesday, our titanic campaign to reach 100,000 signatures on the Parky Charter petition reached its climax. After a marathon effort involving Gillian commandeering EasyJet planes, the Judge haranguing cricket-goers at Lords, and an unexpected segue into TikTok virality, that target was reached. To celebrate, we gathered 80% of the Movers & Shakers at Gillian's to raise a glass of bubbly – and were delighted to be joined by some very special guests who had gone the extra mile to get signatures!Don't stop signing Parky Charter petition! This summer we'll be interviewing a handful of interesting people who are living with Parkinson's. First up: the novelist Linda Grant. Linda started life as a journalist before becoming acclaimed fiction writer who won the Women's Prize in 2000 for her novel When I Lived in Modern Times, and was shortlisted for the Booker Prize in 2008 for The Clothes on Their Backs. Here, she talks for the first time about her Parkinson's diagnosis, how it has impacted her writing, and how she plans to become (maybe) the first writer to bring to life a protagonist living with PD.Don't forget to sign the Parky Charter petition by going to ParkyPetition.com!Sponsored by Boardwave, who support Cure Parkinson's.Presented by Rory Cellan-Jones, Gillian Lacey-Solymar, Mark Mardell, Paul Mayhew-Archer, Sir Nicholas Mostyn and Jeremy Paxman.Produced and edited by Nick Hilton for Podot.Sound mixing by Ewan Cameron.Music by Alex Stobbs.
