Caden and Anna talk about the seminar they met at and how it feels to have financially supported someone we don't politically agree with, but deeply respect as a dog trainer. The broader question becomes: how do we balance spending money on education (or other things), and financially supporting who we (all of us, including you, the listener!) believe most "deserves" or merits our support in terms of purchasing their goods or services. Putting the dog back on lead is a fundamental skill that can significantly enhance training and repair various behavioural issues. Experts in the field emphasise the importance of this practice for both novice and experienced dog owners. They believe that putting the dog back on lead helps reinforce obedience, control, and trust between the handler and the dog. This practice can correct behaviours such as pulling, lunging, and ignoring commands. When a dog is back on lead, it must focus on the handler, which strengthens the dog's response to commands. This consistent practice helps dogs understand their boundaries and the expectations set by their owners. Additionally, putting the dog back on lead can be a confidence booster for both the dog and the owner. It provides a structured environment where the dog can relearn and practice essential skills, making it easier to address and correct unwanted behaviours. The lead acts as a communication tool, guiding the dog and reinforcing positive behaviour. Incorporating this practice into daily training routines ensures that dogs remain well-behaved and responsive. The simple act of putting the dog back on lead is a powerful method to enhance skills, repair training issues, and foster a stronger bond between the dog and the owner. Why do we train our dogs? What exactly is it that we're looking to accomplish? Why have we decided to strive for the goals that we strive for?In this episode, Mariano and Brent discuss why we do what we do. It sounds like a very simple question. However, it's an important question to ask yourself. This came as a tip from Jay Jack, who talks about the importance of staying on task. However, in order to stay on task, we need to know what the task is.The goal of this episode is to explain the "why" behind the "what". Brent and Mariano discuss a few personal reasons that they have both decided to become dog trainers. Why they train and teach in the ways that they do. And why it's important for all trainers to ask themselves why they do things in the way that they do them. It's a great opportunity to remind ourselves of what our real goals are. This helps us avoid the common pitfalls and distractions that exist in this field. We hope you enjoy this episode. We hope you learn a lot. Thanks for listening!! My name is Ralf Weber, and I am a TWC Certified Professional Dog Trainer. I have been training dogs for 18 years. This is my podcast 'Dog Talk' on anything dog-related. I am the owner of Happy Dog Training. A member of the International Association of Canine Professionals and author of the dog book 'If Your Dog Could Talk - Understand Your Dog Like Never Before.' In this first episode, I discuss how we train dogs. We also explore why we do it the way we do. Over the last five years, our approach has shifted to play-based training. I was first introduced to this way of working with dogs by Jay Jack from Next Level Dogs in 2017. In 2020, I achieved a Training without Conflict certification by Ivan Balabanov, and 95% of all training is now play-based. This way of working produces superior results for all obedience and behavioral work. Especially the results for fear and aggression cases are remarkable. I hope you enjoy this episode. Visit the Podcast Episode Page for additional content and a list of episode references. Buy Ralf's book If Your Dog Could Talk - Understand Your Dog Like Never Before (5th Edition) on Amazon.
