In episode four of our Human Trafficking Policy and Research Analyses Project mini season, Just Science sat down with Drs. Lilly Yu and Josh Hendrix, research scientists at RTI International, to discuss a project which documents the implementation of school-based human trafficking safety and prevention programs. For decades, school systems have incorporated safety and prevention programs into their day-to-days, and in recent years, funding is being allocated for developing human trafficking prevention education for students, staff, and educators. As a part of the Human Trafficking Youth Prevention Education Demonstration Grant Program, researchers are evaluating these new school-based human trafficking prevention programs to understand their implementation across eight local educational agencies. Listen along as Drs. Yu and Hendrix discuss the goals of human trafficking prevention education in schools, the challenges of developing a standard program to be used across diverse educational districts, and the activities that are used to evaluate these types of programs. This episode is funded by the Human Trafficking Policy and Research Analyses Project (Contract Number: HHSP233201500039I).
Hemp can save the world! That is a fact that I have known since the early 90s we were very lucky to have someone who's company is on the forefront of that movement. Summer Star from EnviroTextiles is a True Hemp Pioneer and she's on the No Outlet Podcast! Back in the 90s, I was lucky enough to own and operate a Hemp company called Lost Harvest and I remember meeting the mother of our guest several times during that period…Yes, I am dating myself here! Anyway, I always love going down The Hemp Movement Memory lane and Summer was a great partner on that journey! We discussed interdimensional beings (they are here with us), Hemp saving the planet, sneaking out at 13 to go see a KORN show (big bro hook up), a sneak peak to a new machine to help process the Hemp Plant, the glory of "Catfish", her Mount Rushmore of Hemp Pioneers, Ecolution, Earth Goods, the music of Josh Hendrix, the importance of listening to the Universe when it is talking to you, what her favorite hemp product is, what is it like to grow up in Hemp factories, The Magic of Don Wirtshafter and the significance of understanding where the Hemp comes from along with several other fun topics...plus she tells all the fine folks out there how to get involved and allow HEMP to do its thing! She was a pleasure to have on the show and we hope you all enjoy the conversation as much as we did! #hemp #catfish #KORN #Votehemp #ecofreindly #ecofabric

Market leaders are leading the market through diligence, innovation and new ways of thinking. You would expect anything less from the hemp biz? The last 10 months have changed our lives dramatically. Supply chains are being rewritten and remapped due to the pandemic. This is another opportunity to bring manufacturing to the agriculture center of production in this country because supply chains will require domestic supply because nobody wants supply disruption. How do we make sure we take care of the climate and take care of the sustainable story for the next 20 years? Senior editor Todd Runestad sits down with Simon Liegel, co-founder of Driftless Extracts, and Josh Hendrix, an established leader in the hemp industry sitting on major boards and managing BestBall CBD and Hendrix Holdings. They discuss: How brands can qualify a supplier—what to look for, what questions to ask. What kept the green rush from coming to fruition for many hemp farmers—and the opportunities that remain. How Wisconsin is looking past cannabinoids and driving hemp usage toward the grain and fiber angle—packaging, textiles, paper and other industrial applications. Traceabiliity. Sustainability. Verification. And other significant considerations.
Too much hemp in the fields and barns, too many brands, too little regulatory certainty (and misguided when it does get released). Buckle up! Josh Hendrix has been around the hemp farms, the hemp businesses, the hemp boards. He’s sharp, smart and informed—and reasonably hip, at least by Kentucky standards. Natural Products Insider senior editor Todd Runestad sat down with Josh to assess the damage from smoking embers of the hemp CBD business in mid-2020. Yes, there was massive overproduction in 2019. Yes, there is regulatory intransigence. Yes, there was 4,000 hemp CBD brands at last count. But you know what you don’t know? - How the leading CBD brand is positioning itself as something bigger than just a hemp CBD brand. - The big mistake most of those CBD brands make that will be a big contributor to their ultimate demise. - “If you and I get on the phone in 10 years and hemp fiber is not a huge part of the materials world, I’ll be shocked.”

A stroll through the local mall or drug store would lead many to believe that cannabidiol (CBD) products are perfectly legal and a miraculous cure for what ails you. The hemp-derived CBD industry is waiting to explode, but confusion and contradictions in local, state, and federal laws regarding its production, distribution, transportation, and sale have many investors waiting on the sidelines. Josh Hendrix, President of the U.S. Hemp Round table came on the program to discuss the conflicting and confusing legal status of CBD’s and what exactly is in your CBD oil.
Josh Hendrix got the chance to catch up with four friends and colleagues at Expo East in September. Check out this episode for interviews with Duffy Mackay (CV Sciences), Sindy Wise (Lucky's Market), Sarah Syed (CV Sciences), and Jessica Rubino (New Hope Network).
Josh Hendrix, President of U.S. Hemp Roundtable, predicts that, in the next two to three years, hemp will finally begin to infiltrate the market. When that happens, there will be a race to efficiency on the agricultural side, which should lead to both consistent types of hemp as well as varieties of hemp - ultimately, this will create a commodity market. Because the rules of the 2018 Farm Bill have been unclear for farmers and manufacturers, Hendrix carefully explains the process: "You can't just go out and plant hemp. You can't find some seed in your barn that somebody left years ago and go out and plant it. Can't grow it in your backyard. If your state is participating in the Hemp Program, the USDA Hemp Program, they have to go get approved. Once they're approved, you will have to fill out a form, go through their licensing process, make sure that you actually have a farm – that you have a plan."

Hemp is an important agricultural commodity around the world. Hemp played an important role in the growth and development of America as well. Until 1937 when the marijuana tax act criminalized all cannabis including industrial hemp. This is a case of throwing the baby out with the bath water. The road back to US hemp production is just gaining traction. Hemp based products have been available in the US for probably a decade or so. Products like protein rich hemp seed, hemp oil (not to be confused with CDB Oil), hemp fiber for rope and fabrics have come into the marketplace. These products are made from hemp grown in other countries. Canada for example produces industrial hemp. So the challenge of making industrial hemp legal again in the US been formidable but doable.
