Dustin and Steve are easing back into the new world of post-covid-vaccine weddings. Dustin is busy with real estate. Steve is trying out new straps for his cameras. Corny puns. Slippery nips. HBO Max. Steve drops big news and then even bigger news to end the episode. Beer Talk: Steve - Bourbon Barrel No Sparge Imperial Golden Ale from Taxman Brewing Co. Dustin - Soft Parade by Short's Brewing Company Q&A: What do you do if you live with someone who gets covid, but you're still testing negative? Do you call off your shoots anyway? Is anyone still on clubhouse? Do you cater to guests who ask for photos of themselves 3 days after a wedding? Have you ever had a couple go at it when you ask them to kiss? Like, really go at it? This week we talk with Josh Withers about his switch from editing photos on the iPad Pro to a new M1 MacBook. We also talk about some crazy theory about the right way to pose men and women in photos that's some weird toxic masculinity crap, using your Facebook group to charge vendors to post, and looking for a way to get a venue for 500 people that has a 100% refundable deposit and also is available in three months. Q&A: Has anyone been shooting in the pandemic? Has anyone been put into any interesting situations because of Covid? What considerations do you need to keep in mind for associate photographers if it's your first time using one? Links: Which way is your client's genitals pointing? This week on Book(ish) I sit down with ex-radio personality and current marriage celebrant Josh Withers to discuss Talking to Strangers by Malcolm Gladwell. Our conversation ranges over not wanting to be just a nerd, the lie that is the desire for a “non-traditional” wedding and trying to communicate with others. Enjoy! Content warning: this book discusses sexual assault and pedophilia so our conversation does briefly touch upon these topics. This week Steve is joined by Josh Withers of the Rebel's Guide to Getting Married. Steve and Josh talk about COVID-19 cancellations, unsplash, and drone photos. They also talk about facial manipulation in photos that people do to get those big beautiful anime eyes, just like Josh's eyes in the episode art (which is definitely not a horrifically photoshopped image that Steve made with a photo of Josh's from Unsplash). Steve and Josh also talk about laminar, anthropics, and AI editors. Josh also shares about how to get great audio when you're shooting video (which is always a struggle... I mean, listen to the disclaimer at the beginning of the episode). There's also an adorable guest at the end of the show, but you'll have to watch the video if you want to be blown away by how cute Luna Withers is. Links: Josh's Wedding with the Rode Wireless Go. Quit your job, run your own business, be your own boss. He dared to dream, took the plunge and backed himself, and I'm so stoked to have watched this guy's journey vicariously for the best part of the decade. Josh even helped me get this podcast up and running when I had no idea what as RSS feed was 6 years ago. One of the good dudes. He's committed his efforts into creating positive memories for people on one of their milestone days - their wedding ceremony. Shattering the rule book, encouraging rebellion, traveling the world doing so. Even though he added Nickelback to the Ever-growing Playlist of Joy, I'll forgive him, because he's followed the other rules of the podcast. Channeling his passions and skills in to something positive for the universe.
Josh is an old friend of mine who happens to be a marriage celebrant. We often have big long ranty conversations about how to deal with our own businesses and lots of those are around how we physically, systematically communicate certain things to our couples and clients, the services we use, and why we use them. This is just the latest one, I made it official by podasting it! The bridal party is sorted, you’ve got the dress and now it’s time to talk about what happens when you walk down the aisle. The wedding ceremony is the ‘main event’ and the reason you're planning a wedding in the first place but so often the details of the ceremony can be an afterthought. So how do you personalise something that seems so traditional? How far in advance should you book a celebrant/minister/Rabbi/officiant? And how long should the whole thing run for? 30 minutes? An hour? Well lucky for you, Leish has all the tips and she also speaks to wedding celebrant Josh Withers. Subscribe to Hitched here. Celebrant Selection with Josh Withers. Have you chosen you, marriage celebrant, officiate, minister, registrar or registrant person? You know, the lady or gent that makes the whole wedding official!? The topic of actually making it official is my theme today and my guest Joshua Withers…Josh Withers to be relaxed about it, is a little bit of an expert in the area having married hundreds of couples (thousands!?) across the world and has gone about creating his very own brand of wedding ceremony awesomeness which makes him very much in demand! One of the surprising continuing themes of my podcast interviews with wedding planners, bloggers and experts is how often they remark about couples neglecting to consider the actual wedding ceremony. Yeah, you know the bit when you and the other person actually get MARRIED, make it official, sign the docs and are legally bound for eternity. The Thing Committee, being the authority on things that it is, is not beyond elegant surrounds and excellent people, so in this episode of the podcast Josh chats to David Perry, CEO of the Hotel. When we stay in Melbourne we stay at The Hotel Windsor, we're quite classy like that (Ed: Our wives are quite classy like that) and we highly recommend that you do as well, because they made the next 10 episodes of your favourite podcast possible. Josh Withers, David Perry, Steve Molk The Hotel is celebrating it's 130th anniversary this year and artists from the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) will transform The Hotel Windsor into an art space during July and August. Supporting the exhibition will be the illumination of the hotel exterior on 15th of August, 2013. Please thank the Hotel Windsor for supporting The Thing Committee and giving them the space to decide what's a thing, and what's not a thing. The Thing Committee podcast reached new levels of class in this episode as Joe Marsden and Emily Jade O'Keefe join the hosts Josh Withers and Steve Molk to decide what four things are, and are not, things. The post TC 10: Emily Jade O'Keefe & Joe Marsden appeared first on The Thing Committee.
Today's edition of the Thing Committee exists purely to raise awareness of all the good work the Thing Committee does. Please donate, retweet and email your friends about it now. Things addressed by the committee this week include • Raising awareness, is it a thing? • Should Asia's Eurovision "Our Sound" be thing? • Is filming things, in particular at concerts, a thing? • Is having cheap toilet paper for your guests a thing? This week's committee is Josh Withers and Steve Molk plus guests, journa-produc-writer Jaime Wells and the comedy world offers up Danny McGinlay. The post TC 8: Danny McGinlay & Jaime Wells appeared first on The Thing Committee.
The next big thing in Japan is just under an hour of mp3 goodness and you're about to listen to it. Here in Australia we call it the Thing Committee. The agreeable and funny Matt Okine plus the incredibly intelligent, trustworthy and accurate Stuart Layt both join the committee this week, along with regular hosts Josh Withers and Steve Molk. The general consensus is that it's awkward just sitting there wondering whether a thing, is a thing, until the committee decides upon it, so in this show we decide on the following things: • Is the shortening of words a thing? • Are newspapers a thing? • Is Gen Y a thing? The post TC 7: Matt Okine & Stuart Layt appeared first on The Thing Committee.
Is #justsayin a thing? Are middle names a thing? Is outing Internet trolls a thing? These questions and more are addressed by this week's committee. We've borrowed from the greats of AM and FM radio for this weeks episode of the committee. Tom Ballard of Triple J breakfast radio fame and Geoff Harrison, one of the original staffers of QFM and now of 4BH fame, joins regulars Steve Molk and Josh Withers on Australia's favourite podcast about things. The post TC 6: Tom Ballard & Geoff Harrison appeared first on The Thing Committee.
A tradition started so many (four) episodes ago, continues today, with the fifth episode of Australia's most authoritative podcast. Today's Thing Committee contains Rupert Murdoch's personal technology helpdesk attendant, Jen Dudley, 50% of the future hope of commercial radio, Dominic Fay, the mastermind behind TV's other night of night,s the Molkies, Steve Molk from MolksTVTalk and the third most intelligent person to ever visit Walgett for a week, Josh Withers. In this episode the committee faces the issues that couldn't be tabled in Question Time this week, and they ask: • Is Google Android a thing? • Are email read receipts a thing? • Is wearable technology a thing? • Is the Swisse Colour Run a thing? Show notes: Apologies for the distorted sound in the first few minutes. The panel operator has been executed. Also, not every podcast is this nerdy, but with Jen, Molk and Josh in the one room you couldn't expect much else. The post TC 5: Jen Dudley & Dominic Fay appeared first on The Thing Committee.
Cameron Atfield, Carly Commens, Steve Molk and Josh Withers convened to decide, once again, what's a thing and what is not a thing. Is God a thing? Is dirt being served as food a thing? Is "brah" a thing? And more, all served up in today's podcast! The post TC 4: Cameron Atfeild & Carly Commens appeared first on The Thing Committee.
The "Thing" Committee has met once more. Sitting in on this meeting are Australia's third favourite batchelorette Melinda Buttle, the best thing to come out of the Catholic Church since stained glass, Scotty McDonald, the intrepid blogger Steve Molk and the host, Josh Withers. On today's agenda: • Are TV ratings a thing? (Thanks @NotGareth!) • Are hashtags a thing? • Is Vine a thing? • Is public celebrity nudity still a thing? The post TC 2: Melinda Buttle & Scotty McDonald appeared first on The Thing Committee.
The first inaugural "Thing" Committee met on Friday, the first of February, tasked with the god-like task and public service of deciding what is a "thing" and what isn't a "thing." Sitting in the chamber for the first committee meeting was Queensland's favourite parody Twitter account, @Can_Do_Campbell, Australia's first podcaster, Cameron Reilly, TV commentator Steve Molk and general fool around town, Josh Withers. Each member of the committee for the night brings forward a "thing" for discussion amongst the other members and at the end of each segment it is dedcided whether or not the "thing" is a "thing" or not a "thing."
