In this deeply illuminating episode of Dr. Lotte: Science with Soul, I sit down with Eimear Burke, Chosen Chief of the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids (OBOD), counselling psychologist, celebrant, and priestess dedicated to Danú. Together we explore: ✦ What Druidry truly is — beyond stereotypes ✦ The Wheel of the Year and seasonal sacred festivals ✦ The intersection of psychology and earth-based spirituality ✦ Ancient Irish myth and restoring women's voices in storytelling ✦ Ritual, ceremony, and honoring the ancestors ✦ The Druid perspective on the afterlife and reincarnation ✦ The deeper meaning of life Eimear shares how Druidry serves not just as a spiritual path, but as a living value system rooted in reverence for nature, ethics, wisdom, service, and gratitude. This conversation weaves myth, land, ancestry, and consciousness into a powerful reminder that spirituality can be embodied, ecological, and deeply personal. If you've ever felt called to ancient wisdom traditions or wondered whether Druidry might resonate with your soul, this episode offers clarity and depth. In this longer than usual but much-needed episode, Celebrant Survival hosts Claire and Natasha talk openly about celebrant burnout: how it really shows up, why it's so often misunderstood, and the emotional cost of doing deeply meaningful work on repeat. Drawing on their own experiences, they explore the signs they ignored, the myths that kept them pushing through, and why burnout is as much about depletion, as it is about workload. This is an honest, compassionate conversation for celebrants who love their work but feel tired, flat or quietly overwhelmed and who need permission to change how they work, not abandon it. They also look at the quiet ways that burnout can drain joy, creativity and confidence from even the most etsbalished and successful celebrants. We arrive at Celebrant, and the crew is excited to get some real details of a spren city. Then we leave almost immediately. I mean, there's a lot of meat in that "almost." Some very cool stuff shows up, but the newbies are still a bit disappointed. Meanwhile Dalinar is ... not having a good time, and no one is thrilled about that. Kaladin being depressed is par for the course at this point, but when our rock Dalinar starts to crumble, it's a bit tough.

Mel Kerr—NZ's busiest celebrant—drops her wildest funeral yarns: the memorial where a speaker unveiled a secret 15-year-old son mid-service, the tradie send-off fueled by bourbon & cola where a eulogist declared the deceased a “good ****” (many times), and why “open mic” at a funeral is playing with emotional dynamite. Jay adds a jaw-dropper from his own gig where a daughter torched dad's saintly image on the spot. It's raw, human, and weirdly life-affirming.#propertrueyarn Hosted on Acast. Mel Kerr returns with peak chaos: a perfectly innocent (but very wrong) theory about the Vatican's smoke signals, the fickle end of Good Morning, and the glamorous gigs that followed… Canesten Fungal Toenail and Depend adult diapers (hey, the rollover fees slap). Then we pivot to Mel's second life officiating weddings & funerals—culminating in a stunning slip on Waiheke Island where she pronounced a lesbian couple “husband and wife.” Oof. It's funny, human, and very Mel.#propertrueyarn Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

North Star is on vacation this week, so we're rerunning some of our favourite episodes. This one originally aired March 8, 2022. On March 19, 2022, 12-year-old Naomi Hochman will celebrate her bat mitzvah at Winnipeg's Shaarey Zedek synagogue. And while she's the first girl in her family to have a bat mitzvah—her older brothers had theirs, and she just took for granted she would enjoy one too—bat mitzvahs are in fact a relatively new phenomenon. Naomi's bat mitzvah actually takes place on the 100-year anniversary of the very first bat mitzvah in North America. The daughter of an American reconstructionist rabbi, Judith Kaplan, earned that distinction on March 18, 1922. In Canada, what is believed to be the first bat mitzvah wouldn't take place until decades later, in 1949. Miriam Lieff led a Friday night service at Agudath Israel Synagogue in Ottawa, paving the way for generations of Canadian girls to take a more egalitarian role in Jewish religious life. Now 89, Lieff joins to recall her experience during a time when girls weren't even allowed to stand on the bimah—and Naomi will talk about how she feels carrying that torch so many years later. Nick Dempsey is an Australian disability advocate, motivational speaker, and content creator whose life changed dramatically after a diving accident on his 21st birthday left him with a spinal cord injury and quadriplegia. While celebrating with friends at his parents’ home, he misjudged a dive into a shallow backyard pool, dislocating his neck upon impact. "Just after talking about how good my mates are, they broke my neck and then went down to the pub..." Nick has since become a powerful voice in the disability community. He shares his journey candidly on platforms like TikTok and through his podcast “Chats From A Chair,” where he explores life with a disability and broader issues of representation and accessibility. In an episode of the ListenABLE podcast, Nick discussed his lived experience and the innovative solutions he’s developed to maintain independence—including an adaptive drinking glove he designed himself. He also speaks openly about the mental health challenges and relationship dynamics that come with life post-injury. Nick’s efforts go beyond advocacy. He has become a registered marriage celebrant, further proving that life after injury can still be filled with purpose, creativity, and connection. His story highlights the importance of normalising disability through storytelling, embracing vulnerability, and finding strength in community. Want to support Nick? Check our the links below! Eimear is Chosen Chief of the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids. She is a Storyteller and a Psychologist. She has a deep love of the ancient Irish tales and has a passion for storytelling. In this conversation we talk about the healing power of nature, Eimear's earth-based exploration, her growing community, thin places and thin times. Eimear loves to weave in song and the harp into her stories. She particularly enjoys showing people the sacred sites of Ireland and telling the ancient tales right where they happened. Eimear has private practice as a Counselling Psychologist and her interests in Druidry and psychology have led her to act as a Celebrant, helping people to design and enact meaningful rites of passage. She is licensed to perform legal weddings in the Republic of Ireland and can also offer non legal ceremonies. Eimear is also a Priestess dedicated to Danú in the Fellowship of Isis. She is an Arch Druidess in the Druid Clan of Dana and a member of the Noble Order of Tara. Enjoy!
