Here's this week's message!
Teaching NotesEvery 11 minutes, someone in our country dies from suicide.Tragic Juxtaposition:Death by suicide is the tragic result of someone's great pain. There is no greater pain than losing someone by suicide death. You don't have to end your life to end your pain.Rick WarrenIf I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,” even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.Psalm 139:11-12Are there examples in the Bible of suicide? You shall not murder.Exodus 20:13For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light. Psalm 36:9A person's days are determined; you have decreed the number of his months and have set limits he cannot exceed. Job 14:5Can suicide be forgiven? Yes. We are not judged based on any one act in our life. We are not judged upon the final act of our lives. We are judged upon the blood of Jesus. Period. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.Romans 8:38-39Is it a sin to have suicidal thoughts? No. Suicidal ideation is a reflection that we live in a sinful world and have a sinful nature, but having suicidal thoughts is not a sin.For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.2 Corinthians 10:3-5How do we respond when someone expresses suicidal thoughts to us? Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Colossians 3:12Take Them Literally. SHOW NOTES: In Podcast Episode 203, “Do You Have a Judas in Your Circle?” Kim discusses one of the traitors in King David's inner circle, comparing him to the most infamous traitor of all time, Judas Iscariot. Each of us needs to use a discerning spirit, led by the Holy Spirit, to avoid trusting those with traitors tendencies. Our focal verses for this week are varied: 12 While Absalom was offering the sacrifices, he sent for Ahithophel, one of David's counselors who lived in Giloh. Soon many others also joined Absalom, and the conspiracy gained momentum. (2 Samuel 15:12) Absalom followed Ahithophel's advice, just as David had done. For every word Ahithophel spoke seemed as wise as though it had come directly from the mouth of God. (2 Samuel 16:23) When Ahithophel realized that his advice had not been followed, he saddled his donkey, went to his hometown, set his affairs in order, and hanged himself. He died there and was buried in the family tomb. (2 Samuel 17:23) WEEKLY ASSIGNMENT FEATURE: Prayerfully ask the Lord to reveal any Judases in your life and how to best deal with them. And they came to him. 14 Then he appointed twelve of them and called them his apostles. They were to accompany him, and he would send them out to preach, 15 giving them authority to cast out demons. 16 These are the twelve he chose:…19 Judas Iscariot (who later betrayed him). (Mark 3:16a-19) 4 But Judas Iscariot, the disciple who would soon betray him, said, 5 “That perfume was worth a year's wages. It should have been sold and the money given to the poor.” 6 Not that he cared for the poor—he was a thief, and since he was in charge of the disciples' money, he often stole some for himself. Go listen to the interview with Michael Wiseman at this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rorcjBke9DI&t=921s Every empire and form of government has fallen and crumbled. This is not evidence of a theocracy being an issue, this actually lends itself to the depravity of man. That is the common denominator. Some forms of government actually encourage human depravity like totalitarian dictatorship (characteristic of atheistic countries) but our constitutional republic (form of government) with God as our king informing our laws and ethics (theocracy) limits and mitigates the ability for human depravity to rear its ugly head! Preacher: Pastor Don Fields
A broken heart and a broken spirit will put us in the right frame of mind.
What's in a name? It's virtually impossible to hear the name Judas and not think of the word traitor or betrayal. Mark Kline teaches about the life Judas Iscariot and his self-inflicted death from Matthew 27:1-10. Mark imparts the importance of a good name, a genuine faith, a faithful view of Jesus, a clear conscience, and a godly legacy, contrasting Judas' betrayal to that of Peter, who was eventually restored. Even when those who appear close to Jesus fail, His invitation to “come to Me” leads to salvation, restoration and a life worth living. With suicide now as our nation's leading cause of death, Mark closes with a pastoral word of encouragement toward hope in Christ, the leading cause of eternal life. "Judas" sermon by Pastor Peter Kek. Matthew 26:14-25
Matthew 27:1-10 What ever happened to Judas? Let's find out together as we study Matthew 27. Then ask yourself: Do I try to impose a false perception onto Jesus?
1. Overview of the Synoptics: How Matthew, Mark and Luke are similar: How … and why Matthew, Mark and Luke are different: Revelation 4 6 … In the center, around the throne, were four living creatures … 7 The first living creature was a lion, the second was like an ox, the third had a face like a man, the fourth was like a flying eagle. Matthew’s symbol: Mark’s symbol: Luke’s symbol: John’s symbol : 2. The Gospel According to Matthew: A Case Study in Uniqueness — the Death of Judas (Matthew v. Luke) Matthew 27:1-10: 1 Early in the morning, all the chief priests and the elders of the people came to the decision to put Jesus to death. 2 They bound him, led him away and handed him over to Pilate, the governor. 3 When Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty silver coins to the chief priests and the elders. 4 “I have sinned,” he said, “for I have betrayed innocent blood.” “What is that to us?” they replied. “That’s your responsibility.” 5 So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself. 6 The chief priests picked up the coins and said, “It is against the law to put this into the treasury, since it is blood money.” 7 So they decided to use the money to buy the potter’s field as a burial place for foreigners. 8 That is why it has been called the Field of Blood to this day. Acts 1:15-19: 15 In those days Peter stood up among the believers (a group numbering about a hundred and twenty) 16 and said, “Brothers, the Scripture had to be fulfilled which the Holy Spirit spoke long ago through the mouth of David concerning Judas, who served as guide for those who arrested Jesus—17 he was one of our number and shared in this ministry.” 18 (With the reward he got for his wickedness, Judas bought a field; there he fell headlong, his body burst open and all his intestines spilled out. 19 Everyone in Jerusalem heard about this, so they called that field in their language Akeldama, that is, Field of Blood.) Key differences: Matthew compares Judas to: Key Scripture: 2 Samuel 18 (esp. 9) 2 Samuel 14:33 Matthew 26:50 Luke compares Judas to: Key Scripture: 1 Kings 21 1 Kings 22:38 The differences between Gospels may feel dissonant at times. They force us to pay attention to some fine details. If we are too quick to harmonize the Gospel accounts, we may miss the opportunity to notice the nuances of each unique account.

SUPER DADS Fear Not Scott Young.com – Pastor Of Hope But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. – Matthew 1:20 SUPER POWERS OF A SUPER DAD 1. The Power Of Humility Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not his mother called Mary? And are not his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? - Matthew 13:55 Mary and Joseph also went to offer a sacrifice, as the law of the Lord says: “You must sacrifice two doves or two young pigeons.” – Luke 2:24 ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ 2. The Power Of Divine Guidance · Matthew 1:20-21 – Do Not Be Afraid · Matthew 2:13 – Flee To Egypt · Matthew 2:19 – Go Back To Israel · Matthew 2:22 – Warned In A Dream ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ 3. The Power Of Mercy This is how the birth of Jesus Christ took place. His mother, Mary, was pledged in marriage to Joseph. Before they came together, she was found to be with child by the Holy Spirit. 19 Joseph, her husband, was a righteous man and did not want to disgrace her. So he decided to divorce her privately. – Matthew 1:18-19 When Joseph woke up from his sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him. He took Mary home as his wife. – Matthew 1:24 ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ 4. The Power Of Self-Control But he [Joseph] was not intimate with [Mary] her until she gave birth to her firstborn son. And he named him Jesus. – Matthew 1:25 ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ 5. The Power Of Faith When the time came for their purification according to the law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord. – Luke 2:22 When they had accomplished everything according to the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own town, Nazareth. 40 The child grew and became strong. He was filled with wisdom, and God’s favor was on him. 41 Every year his parents traveled to Jerusalem for the Passover Festival. – Luke 2:39-41 ______________________________________________________________________________________________________

Decisions Have Descendants 10/20/2019Whether we like it or not our decisions will populate the future! For instance, two men lived in the state of New York during the first half of the 1700’s. One was Max Jukes and the other was Jonathan Edwards, each had numerous descendants and a lasting legacy:Max JukesDid not believe in ChristRefused to take his children to church, even when they asked him to goHe had 1026 descendants300 were sent to prison (average incarceration 13 years)190 were public prostitutes680 were admitted alcoholicsHis family cost the state of New York $420,000 by the time the article was writtenJonathan EdwardsLoved the lord and had his children in church every SundayHad 929 descendants420 were ministers86 were University professors13 were University Presidents75 authored good books7 were elected to Congress1 was Vice-President of the United StatesHis family never cost the state one dime, yet contributed immeasurably to our countryThe Potential Factor Every decision will release its energy upon the future! Our thoughts carry potential and our decisions release it!As a young boy I was taught to shoot a gun. The fact of the power and range of my ammunition was stressed every time I was allowed to fire a weapon. The Cardinal Rule in the decision to fire was:“check downrange- make sure of your target!”With this in mind:Let’s consider for a moment……Eve beside the tree…Cain alone with Abel…Moses seeing what looks like a bush on fire…Moses, a rod and a rock…Caleb and Joshua-what to report?…Abraham and Sarai- thinking maybe Hagar might be God’s answer…David deciding to stay home from battle …A rich young ruler struggling with his investments…Jesus weighing the Father’s will against His own… Pilot deciding not to decide…Ananias and Saphira deciding to lieIt’s plain to see from these few examples that; The momentous often is hiding amidst the mundane! It’s very obvious that a different decision in each case would have resulted in a very different outcome!Question:Is there any significant personal decision I can casually dismiss as “no big deal”?I saw a quote one time I thought said it well:“Life is what happens while you are planning more important things.”Question: How am I going to live with the pressure, considering the fact that my decisions will have such a major impact on the future?Thankfully, as believers, we have a massive amount of principles and promises from the Lord that assure us of His ever-present guidance and interest in leading us toward good results. His repeated promises of provision, protection, direction and even redemption and restoration not only make decision making less stressful but potentially exciting! So, as a first order of business… FEAR NOT! Let’s look at a very small sample of the many promises the lord has given to those of us who seek His direction…These three verses provide what I refer to a kind of general “Atmospherics” to bear in mind as we approach a life filled with decisions……Psalm 119:105… (immediate and intermediate direction from God’s word)…Galatians 5:16… (invites us to walk in the Spirit to avoid fleshly mistakes)…Philippians 2:13… (indicates that God is at work in a submitted heart to provide the desire and ability to accomplish His will)…Proverbs 2 and 3… (provide a beautiful guide to the attitudes and activities that will result in God’s direction, protection and wisdom in light of the choices we face)Let me leave you today with a checklist of situations and attitudes I have identified in the Scriptures and in my experience that I hope you will consider when contemplating a decision.Be careful about decisions made WHEN……You’re feeling weary, hungry, ill or otherwise physically distressed. (Esau… Genesis 25:29-34; Jesus… Matthew 4:1-11)…You’re feeling devastated, overwhelmed and hopeless.(Job… Job 2:7-10; The 10 Spies…Numbers 13:31-14:4; Saul…I Samuel 28:5-20)…You’re being influenced by unusually strong emotions.(Samson…Judges 16:4-20; The Disciples…Luke 9:54-56)…You’re feeling self-satisfied or flattered.(King David…II Samuel 11:1-17; Herod…Acts 12:21-23)…You make assumptions based on previous success (yours or other’s). (Israel…Numbers 14:40-45; Paul… Acts 16:6-7; Seven Sons of Sceva…Acts 19:14-16)…You’ve not properly counted the cost. (Tower builders…Luke 14:28-30; Adulterers…Proverbs 5:1-23)…You feel you just need to DO something! (Abram…Genesis 16:1-12; Saul…I Samuel 13:9-14)…You’re recovering from a major loss or suffering from significant levels of depression or confusion. (James 1:8; I Corinthians 14:33)…You’re tempted to act out of anger, revenge or jealousy. (Moses…Numbers 20:7-12; An angry man…Proverbs 19:19; 27:4; Absalom…II Samuel 13-18)… God seems far away due to prayerlessness and broken relationship. (King Saul…I Samuel 28:5-8; Judas…Matthew 27:3-5)

I Love My Shepherd 25 – Chasing Freedom YA Bonus 2: Freedom in Friendship without Fear Questions to consider: Do you have a friendship you wish you could get back? Reconnect with again, go deeper, love more? What is real friendship? What does it look like? List as many qualities as you can that make up a real friendship Who is a real friend to you? Where have you found real friendship? When have you struggled with a friendship, been ditched or deserted? Galatians 2:4-6 – false brothers, differentiating false/fake from real How can you tell if someone is fake? Do you have anything that helps you discern real from false friends? 4 Characteristics of Real Relationships: Share truth (not gossip, making stuff up about themselves or others) Don’t expect you to be a different person (does this friendship help me grow or tear me down?) Impartiality (no choosing or judging friends on material things, family background, etc.) What are some things teens/young adults choose friends based on? Offer love and forgiveness (tell each other the truth, but offer care and forgiveness) Christ does this best – friendship without fear, never afraid of Him leaving us, ditching us Judas: Matthew 26:14-16 Without distrespecting the plight of actual slavery: How is slavery a good metaphor for junky friendship? Fear in friendships - look like demands, put downs, over the top sarcasm, expectations on things that don’t matter, constant suggestions that are uninvited, “You should really” or hurtful comments followed by “just joking” Internal fear in friendship – may have nothing to do with the other person, but this relationship may not work for you if you are constantly concerned what they think of you, want to make them proud or unhealthy trying to impress God never asks us to impress Him, He asks us to seek Him, converse with Him God’s friendship is sacrificial Freedom in Friendship – Open conversation, exchange of topics and ideas No one looks the same, God values different races and ethnicities, ideas and genders Challenge you, ask you to take risks, help you grow Offer trust, do not misjudge character, give people the benefit of the doubt Include other people, willing to let others in, no partiality Identifying fake v. real, heavy boundaries against fake look for friendship mentors, those around you doing friendship well Question of the week: Is this friendship offering freedom or fear?
