7 takeaways from this study God turns the “toxic” into cleansing life. The red heifer (Numbers 19) is both incredibly holy and, paradoxically, ritually toxic to those who handle it. This mirrors how Yeshua (Jesus), bearing sin and death, becomes the very means by which God cleanses and restores. From pariah to beloved: God's heart for the outcast. The play on pariah (socially rejected) and parah adumah (red heifer) highlights how God works through what the world despises. Believers — often treated as pariahs — share in Messiah's pattern: rejected by many, yet precious and chosen by God. Messiah is the telos (goal) of the Torah's righteousness. Messiah is the telos of the Torah — not “abolishing” it, but putting its purpose into effect. The “righteousness of God” that Israel pursued imperfectly without the Messiah is fulfilled in and through the Messiah, for all who believe. Death is the ultimate impurity — but Heaven will swallow it up. Death is treated as a toxic separation from God; the red heifer addresses impurity from contact with death. Passages like 1Corinthians 15 and Isaiah 25 show the endgame: “Death is swallowed up in victory,” and tears are wiped away. Red heifer, פֶּסַח Pesach (Passover) and יוֹם הַכִּפֻּרִים Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) converge in the Messiah. Passover: blood on the doorposts blocks the destroyer and delivers from slavery. Red Heifer: cleanses from death-related impurity. Yom Kippur’s goats “for the LORD” and “for removal” (Azazel) together deal with sins, transgressions and iniquities. Yeshua simultaneously fulfills all these roles — blocking wrath, cleansing from death and removing iniquity. God's goal is not just outward purity, but inward completion. The distinction between being outwardly “without blemish” and inwardly “complete, mature” shows God's deeper aim. Through exile, return and Messiah's work, God is forming a people who are clean both outside and inside, with a transformed heart. Heaven promises to forget the failings of those so seek freedom. So why should we drag them along on our journey? The New Covenant (Jeremiah 31) promises God will remember sins and iniquities no more. In Messiah, the way into God's presence is opened; we can approach with a clean conscience, unless we insist on dragging old chains that heaven has already released. Shabbat Parah (Sabbath of the Red Heifer), comes in the traditional readings cycle near to Passover. The study explores Numbers 19, Ezekiel 36, Jeremiah 31, Hebrews 9, and related passages, showing how the פָּרָה אֲדֻמָּה parah adumah (red heifer), Passover and Yom Kippur all point to the work of the מָשִׁיחַ Mashiach (Messiah). At the heart of this teaching lies a paradox. The red heifer ritual produces something incredibly holy and cleansing, yet it renders those who handle it ritually impure. Likewise, Messiah bears sin and death and becomes, in the eyes of many, a “pariah,” yet through Him God brings cleansing, life, and restoration. This exploration moves from language and sacrifice to exile and return, and finally to the hope of death's defeat. From pariah to parah: God's heart for the outcast Pariah in English (from Tamil via Hindi) can describe people who are pushed to the margins and treated as “untouchable.” Though the word origins are unrelated, the phonetic similarity to parah (heifer) actually points to a profundity. Life modern and ancient creates pariahs. Some are socially invisible, the people others walk past without seeing. Others become pariahs in their own families, workplaces, or communities. Believers in the Holy One of Israel can also be treated as pariahs, marking us as someone to be dismissed, mocked, avoided or persecuted. This social reality echoes the prophetic description of the Suffering Servant in Isaiah 53. He is “despised and forsaken of men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief” (Isaiah 53:3 NASB95). He carries the sins of many yet is rejected. The Gospel of John picks up this rejection theme: He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him. John 1:11 NASB95 Messiah Himself thus shares in this pariah pattern. He is both rejected and yet chosen by God as the central means of redemption. Shabbat Parah us to reflect on how God chooses the “despised” and the “toxic” to bring healing and restoration. Way-markers toward freedom Shabbat Parah is the third of four special Sabbaths leading up to Passover. Shabbat Shekalim (Sabbath of Shekels): This focuses on the half-shekel contribution (Exodus 30:11–16). One takeaway is that every person is more than a number. Each life has weight and value in God's kingdom, like a shekel on the scales. Shabbat Zakhor (Sabbath of Remembrance): This recalls Amalek, who attacked Israel from the rear, targeting the weak and vulnerable (Deuteronomy 25:17–19). Amalek becomes a type of relentless, irrational hostility to God and His people. The study notes how this theme surfaces again in the story of Haman in the book of Esther, where God reverses the plot and turns the enemy's own gallows against him. Shabbat Parah (Sabbath of the Red Heifer): Here the theme shifts to death and impurity, and how God uses something paradoxically “toxic” and holy to bring cleansing. It prepares the heart for Passover by dealing with the deeper issue of death and defilement. Shabbat haChodesh (Sabbath of the New Month): Heaven points to the fresh start being given to Israel in leaving bondage in Mitzraim (Egypt) by resetting the nation’s calendar to start the cycle of annual memorial–festivals based on Passover. These Sabbaths together speak of value (shekels), danger and deliverance (Amalek), deep cleansing (red heifer) and new beginnings (new month), all moving toward the redemption story of Passover. Purity outside and inside In Numbers 19, the red heifer is described as פָּרָה אֲדֻמָּה תְּמִימָה Parah Adumah temimah — a red heifer that is תָּמִים tamim, usually translated “without blemish,” “flawless,” or “complete.” In the Septuagint (LXX), the ancient Greek translation of the Hebrew Scriptures, to see how Jewish translators in the first to third centuries B.C. rendered tamim. Two key Greek words appear: ἄμωμος amōmos: “without defect, spotless,” stressing outward, visible flawlessness. τέλειος teleios: “complete, mature, having reached its goal,” focusing on wholeness and completion, not only outward but inward. Theological Dictionary of the New Testament notes that these terms can overlap, yet each has a nuance. Amōmos is more common in sacrificial contexts where physical and ritual purity matter, such as Leviticus 1. Teleios appears in other contexts to convey completeness or maturity. In Numbers 19, the red heifer is evaluated so carefully that even tradition speaks of counting hairs and color variations. This reflects the amōmos side: no visible defect. Yet God's greater concern is teleios — not just outer perfection but inner completion. The journey from exile and return, especially in Bible books like Ezra and Nehemiah, emphasizes that God desires change not only on the outside but also in the heart. He looks at the inside, not just the appearance (1Samuel 16:7). Thus, the red heifer becomes a symbol not simply of a flawless animal but of God's goal: a people who are whole, outside and inside. Messiah, the goal of Torah righteousness A related noun to teleios is τέλος telos, used in Romans 10:4: For Christ is the end [telos] of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. Romans 10:4 NASB95 Often this is quoted as “Christ is the end of the law,” stopping there. However, in context (locally, Romans 10:1–4 and thematically, Romans 9–11), Israel has a zeal for God but not in accordance with full knowledge of Heaven’s method of salvation communicated through the תּוֹרָה Torah and Prophets. The issue was seeking to establish one’s own righteousness instead of submitting to God's righteousness (Romans 10:2–3). In context, telos does not mean “abolition” but “goal,” “destination,” or “completion.” Messiah is the telos of the Torah for righteousness. He brings the righteousness of God into its full expression for all who believe, Jew and Gentile alike. This aligns with messianic expectations that the coming of the Mashiach ushers in the fullness of God's צְדָקָה tzedakah (righteousness) and the age to come. Just as the red heifer must be without blemish and whole, how much more does Messiah brings the Torah's intention — true righteousness — to its intended goal. Death as toxic impurity The core problem addressed in the Bible is death. In Torah, death brings tum'ah (ritual impurity). The מִשְׁכָּן Mishkan (“dwelling place,” i.e., the Tabernacle) must not be contaminated by death or things decomposing/fermenting because the Creator is the source of life. Leviticus repeatedly states that “the life of the flesh is in the blood” (Leviticus 17:11). Offerings (qorbanot, “things that approach”) involve the pouring out of blood, which then moves toward the sanctuary of the Mishkan where the Ark of the Covenant/Testimony is located, with the Presence of God above it. This can seem paradoxical: something associated with death — shed blood — moves into the place of life and holiness. Similarly, the red heifer ritual uses the ashes of a burned animal associated with death, yet those ashes mixed with “living water” become a cleansing agent for people defiled by contact with a corpse (Numbers 19:17–19). Thus the tension: What looks most toxic, most associated with death, becomes God's appointed means of cleansing. Spiritually, death pictures separation from God, the life-giver and life-sustainer (Genesis 3). Messiah's mission is to conquer death for all who trust (have faith in) Heaven’s method. 1Corinthians 15:54–57 quotes from Isaiah 25 and Hosea 13: But when this perishable will have put on the imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written,“DEATH IS SWALLOWED UP” in victory.“O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY?O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR STING?” 1Corinthians 15:54–55 NASB95 Isaiah 25:8 promises that God “will swallow up death for all time” and “will wipe tears away from all faces” (NASB95). Hosea 13:14 speaks of ransom from the power of Sheol (grave, death) and mocks death's sting. Paul applies these to the resurrection hope in Messiah. In short, death feels inevitable in this present age. Yet Scripture insists that death is not original to God's creation design. It is an intruder that God will ultimately remove. Exile, the grave and the God Who Restores For Israel, exile from the Promised Land can feel like national death — buried among the nations with no future. In Hosea, Israel is likened to an unfaithful wife, yet the husband goes after her, buys her back, and restores her (Hosea 1–3). Exile is not the final word. This pattern scales up. Humanity as a whole experiences exile from Eden. Being outside the Garden is a kind of global exile from God's immediate presence. Prophetic promises of tears wiped away, death swallowed up, and shame removed (Isaiah 25; Revelation 7, 21) picture the final reversal of that exile. Once again, the dwelling place of God will be with humanity. In this light, the red heifer's cleansing of corpse impurity foreshadows a larger restoration. Those who feel abandoned, forgotten, or “buried” are not beyond God's reach. The God who redeems Israel from Sheol and exile intends to reverse humanity's exile from His presence. Passover, the destroyer, and the blood that blocks Heaven’s wrath As the calendar moves toward Passover, let’s compare the red heifer and the Passover Lamb. In Exodus 12, the 10th plague — death of the firstborn — threatens Egypt and Goshen alike. God commands Israel to slaughter a lamb or goat and put its blood on the doorposts and lintel (Exodus 12:7, 12–13). This blood marks the house so that the “destroyer” (מַשְׁחִית mashchit) passes over that place. This is a paradox: God sends the destroyer. God also provides the blood that blocks the destroyer. So the same God both judges and provides a covering. The blood averts wrath and protects life. In this way, Passover (and apostles like Paul) points to Messiah, the Passover lamb whose blood shields from judgment and delivers from slavery. The firstborn of Egypt die so that Israel may go free. Later, prophets can say, “Out of Egypt I called My son” (Hosea 11:1), referring first to Israel and, by extension, to Messiah (as the Gospel of Matthew applies it). מִצְרַיִם Mitzrayim (Egypt) even becomes a temporary place of refuge for Yeshua as a child when Herod seeks to kill Him. The red heifer ritual: Ashes and ‘living water’ Returning to Numbers 19, the red heifer ritual focuses on a flawless animal (various traditions differ on what that means) that has never been yoked is sacrificed outside the camp (Numbers 19:2–3). Cedar wood and hyssop, tied together with scarlet yarn, are burned together with the heifer. Each of these elements carries symbolic weight: Cedar wood: known for resisting decay and corruption. Hyssop: associated with cleansing (used with Passover blood on the doorposts and in purification rites; Exodus 12:22; Psalm 51:7). Scarlet yarn: evokes blood and binding together. All these, once burned to ashes, are mixed with “living water,” that is, running or fresh water, not stagnant (Numbers 19:17). The mixture becomes a powerful cleansing agent from corpse impurity. Humanity has long used ashes in soaps and cleansers. Here, though, the Torah describes a cleansing that goes beyond outward dirt. So, if a person can wash the outside, who will deal with the “dirt” on the inside? He answer is in Hebrews 9. Hebrews 9 and Yom Kippur: Cleansing Dead Works Hebrews has a sustained discussion of the Tabernacle and especially Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) across its first 10 chapters. Hebrews 7–10 centers on the high priest, sacrifices, and access to the Holy of Holies (where the Ark of the Covenant and the Presence are located). It is striking that Hebrews 9 weaves in the red heifer alongside Yom Kippur imagery. The author explains that if the ashes of a heifer and other ritual elements sanctify for the cleansing of the flesh, “how much more” will the blood of Messiah cleanse the conscience from dead works to serve the living God (Hebrews 9:13–14). Yom Kippur especially addresses not only sins and transgressions but also iniquity: Sin: missing the mark/target. Transgression: more deliberate crossing of known boundaries. Iniquity: deeper twistedness and guilt that no ordinary offering can resolve. On Yom Kippur, two goats are chosen by lot (Leviticus 16). One is “for the LORD,” its blood brought into the Holy of Holies. The other is “for עֲזָאזֵל Azazel,” commonly called the scapegoat, which bears the sins, transgressions, and iniquities of Israel and is sent into the wilderness. Together, the high priest and the goats form a team. One goat's blood covers; the other carries away. Yet in the earthly system, this must be repeated yearly. The uncleanness and iniquity keep returning, demanding ongoing sacrifices. Hebrews presents Messiah as the ultimate high priest and the perfect sacrifice who enters not an earthly copy but the heavenly reality. He deals with iniquity in a final way. The Temple’s red heifer problem and the need for Mashiach There’s a practical halachic (spiritual practice/tradition) puzzle: to offer a red heifer, the officiating priest must already be ritually clean. But to become clean from corpse impurity, one needs the ashes of a red heifer. So how does one start the cycle again if it has been broken for centuries? Some Jewish traditions propose that only the Mashiach, or someone with a unique face-to-face relationship with God like Moses, could initiate this anew. In this view, Mashiach alone is pure enough from the outset to offer that first red heifer again. This fits the larger pattern in Hebrews: human efforts can maintain ritual purity for a time, but only Messiah can finally break the loop of death and impurity. New Covenant, forgotten iniquities and a clean conscience In Jeremiah 31's New Covenant prophecy, Heaven promises not just a renewed Torah on the heart but also forgiveness on a new level: “For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.” Jeremiah 31:34 NASB95 In Messiah, sins, transgressions, and iniquities are not simply covered, but Heaven also removes and forgets them. Yom Kippur's pattern reaches its hinted telos (goal). If God does not hold these things over His people anymore, we need not drag them like chains. Hebrews 3–4 connects this with entering God's rest, presented in Scripture as both a sacred place (the Promised Land) and a sacred time (שַׁבָּת Shabbat, Sabbath). Shabbat becomes a picture of the “place where we belong,” the rest inaugurated by Messiah's work. Because of His blood and priesthood, the way through the veil, represented in the Tabernacle as separating the Presence of God from humanity, is open for access via Yeshua. Believers may enter God's presence boldly, with a clean conscience, knowing that Heaven does not keep a record of those forgiven iniquities. This does not deny that people can cling to guilt and shame. One can insist on dragging what Heaven has released. Yet from the heavenly perspective described in Hebrews and Jeremiah, those iniquities, once forgiven, are truly gone. Messiah as fulfillment of all the LORD’s appointments with humanity Messiah does not only bring to fullness the parah adumah (red heifer), Passover, and Yom Kippur, He also fulfills all of God's appointed times (מוֹעֲדִים mo'edim): Pesach: He is the Lamb whose blood blocks judgment and delivers from slavery. Matzot (Unleavened Bread) and Firstfruits: His sinlessness and resurrection life follow naturally from that. שָׁבוּעוֹת Shavuot (Weeks, Pentecost): He pours out the Spirit and writes Torah on hearts. יוֹם תְּרוּעָה Yom Teruah (Trumpets, Rosh Hashanah): End-time trumpet imagery in Matthew 24, Paul's letters and Revelation echoes this festival. Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement): He is the high priest and both goats, covering and removing iniquity. סֻכּוֹת Sukkot (Tabernacles, Booths): “The Word became flesh and dwelt (literally, tabernacled) among us” (John 1:14), echoing the Mishkan and the festival of dwelling with God. The spring festivals have already seen direct fulfillments in Messiah's first coming, while the fall festivals likely correspond to events of the day of the LORD and Messiah's return. Yet even now, Messiah embodies the meaning of them all. Thus, from shekel to scapegoat, from red heifer to resurrection, God uses what seems weak, rejected, or “toxic” to bring about cleansing, righteousness and life. Shabbat Parah becomes a powerful reminder that in Messiah, the telos of the Torah, Heaven will swallow up death, reverse exile, and cover and forget repentant iniquity. INTRODUCTION — “THE FIRST FELT NEED IS TO KNOW ME.”Every year—like many pastors—I usually start January with a “felt needs” message series. Something to help us get our feet under us for a new year: stress, relationships, habits, purpose, prayer, identity… the things we're feeling right now.But as I was preparing for the first series of 2026, I heard the Holy Spirit speak something that immediately captured my attention. “The first felt need is to know Me.”I really believe The Lord is communicating to us, “The greatest need of My people is not a change in circumstances, but the greatest need of My people is clarity about who I AM.”If you don't know who He is… You won't trust Him.If you don't trust Him… You won't obey Him.If you don't obey Him…You won't experience the life He promised.[SO THIS YEAR…] before we talk about our needs, we are going to talk about His nature. We're going to start right where God Himself starts when He describes His own character. Not what culture says about God… Not what our trauma says about God… Not even what our feelings say about God… BUT WHAT GOD SAYS ABOUT GOD.And there is one place in Scripture where God gives the most repeated, most quoted self-description of Himself in the entire Bible:FOUNDATIONAL SCRIPTUREExodus 34:6–7 (NIV) The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God,slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet He does not leave the guilty unpunished; He punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation. This passage appears more than twenty times throughout the rest of Scripture. It is the Bible's anchor text for understanding the heart of God.[BUT IT DOES CREATE TENSION…] One moment God is compassionate, gracious, loving, forgiving… Then suddenly we read He “punishes the children”…SO… Is God merciful or is He vengeful? To answer that question, we need to look at the story behind these words.I. THE STORY BEHIND THE DESCRIPTIONBefore Exodus 34, God makes a covenant with Israel—He saves them out of slavery, brings them to Mount Sinai, gives them the Ten Commandments, and calls them to be SHAPED BY HIS CHARACTER so they can REPRESENT HIM TO THE WORLD.But as Moses is on the mountain receiving the covenant… Israel is at the bottom breaking the covenant… They build a golden calf. They worship an idol.God is hurt. God is angry. God tells Moses, “They will keep doing this. This rebellion will never stop.” AND God is ready to call off the covenant—And He would have been absolutely just in doing so!But Moses intercedes and reminds God of His promise to rescue the world through Abraham's family.[SO NOW THE QUESTION IS…] Will God give Israel what they deserve,or will He give them who He is?In response to that question— In response to human rebellion, human weakness, and human failure— GOD REVEALS HIS CHARACTER.II. THE FIVE ATTRIBUTES OF GOD (THE CENTERPIECE OF THE OLD TESTAMENT)The description in Exodus 34:6–7 has five core traits:Compassionate; Gracious; Slow to Anger; Abounding in Loyal Love; Faithful / TruthfulCompassion is listed first—not by accident. And today we're going to begin with the first thing God wants us to know about Him:III. THE GOD WHO IS COMPASSIONATE“The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate God…” —Exodus 34:6The Hebrew word is raḥûm {ra-khum} (רַחוּם).Its noun form is raḥamîm (compassion). Both come from the Hebrew root rechem — womb.To the ancient Hebrew mind, compassion is not a soft, vague feeling. It is love ROOTED IN THE DEEPEST PLACE OF HUMAN EMOTION—a mother's fierce, protective, tender love for her vulnerable child.Compassion is not distant pity. It is GUT-LEVEL MOVEMENT TOWARD SOMEONE IN PAIN.A. Compassion HAS DEEP EMOTION — 1 Kings 3In Solomon's famous judgment between two mothers, the real mother is described as being “deeply moved”—the Hebrew is raḥamîm—compassion rising from her core, from her womb. She would rather lose her child to another woman than see him harmed.Compassion MOVES YOU TOWARD ANOTHER'S GOOD AT YOUR OWN COST.{BIG KEY} THIS IS THE FIRST WORD God chooses to DESCRIBE HIMSELF!B. Compassion MOVES GOD TO ACTIONCompassion isn't just God's feeling—it is God's movement. When Israel cries out in Egypt, Scripture says God “heard their groaning” and was moved with raḥamîm to rescue them.In the wilderness, though they complained and doubted, God sustained them like a mother with Food, Water, Protection, Clothing that did not wear out, Leadership, guidance, and mercy!{BIG KEY} When God reveals His character, the very first trait He mentions is COMPASSION.C. Israel Rejects God's Compassion… but GOD REMAINS COMPASSIONATEDespite His tenderness, Israel continually rejects Him. They worship idols. They oppress each other. They abandon Him and heir rebellion leads to exile. In the darkest moment, God speaks through Isaiah: Isaiah 49:15 Can a mother forget her nursing child, or have no compassion (raḥamîm) on the child of her womb? Though she may forget, I will not forget you.Even when Israel forgets God— God promises that He will not forget them!He is more faithful than the most faithful mother. More tender than the most tender heart. More committed than the most committed parent.[AND ISAIAH ANNOUNCES SOMETHING RADICAL…] God will rescue His people by ENTERING INTO THEIR SUFFERING HIMSELF.IV. JESUS IS THE COMPASSION OF GOD IN HUMAN FORMWhen Jesus steps onto the scene, He is the fulfillment of Exodus 34:6.The Greek word for compassion in the New Testament is oiktirmos {oeek-teir-mose} (οἰκτιρμός).It means deep pity; heart-moved mercy; compassion that expresses itself in action. There is also another word often used of Jesus' compassion:splagchnizomai {splank-knee-ZOE-my}— compassion from the inner parts, the guts, the womb-like center of a person.Jesus is the raḥûm of God walking among us.JESUS HEALS Because He Is CompassionateHe touches the leper; He lifts the broken; He feeds the hungry; He embraces the outcast.JESUS WEEPS Because He Is CompassionateAt Lazarus's tomb, He is deeply moved; He enters our grief.JESUS PROTECTS Because He Is CompassionateIn Luke 13:34, He compares Himself to: “a mother hen gathering her chicks under her wings.” Again we see the mother-heart of God.JESUS SAVES Because He Is CompassionateThe ultimate oiktirmos {oeek-teir-mose} is the cross. Jesus enters humanity's suffering, sin, sorrow, death— Not because we deserved it, but because He COULDN'T LEAVE US WHERE WE WERE.V. THE TENSION OF COMPASSION AND JUSTICE[NOW LET'S TURN BACK TO…] Exodus 34.God is compassionate… But He is also just. He forgives wickedness, rebellion, and sin… But He “does not leave the guilty unpunished.”Is this contradiction? No—it is the balancing of God's character.A. The Third and Fourth GenerationsThe phrase “punishes to the third and fourth generation” does not mean God is punishing innocent grandchildren. It means God limits the consequences of generational rebellion only to those who continue it.In Hebrew thought:“Thousands” = countless generations“Three or four” = a very limited number{BIG KEY} God's LOYAL LOVE IS THOUSANDS OF TIMES GREATER than His judgment.God LEANS OVERWHELMINGLY TOWARD MERCY.He only gives judgment WHEN PEOPLE CONTINUOUSLY REJECT HIS COMPASSION.VI. WHAT COMPASSION REQUIRES FROM USBecause God is compassionate, Scripture calls us to embody His compassion:Luke 6:36 Be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate.”2 Corinthians 1:3–4 God comforts us so we can comfort others.Ephesians 4:32 Be kind and compassionate to one another…When we see suffering— Be moved. When we see brokenness— Move toward it.When we see pain— Don't look away; Don't harden your heart; Don't grow numb.Compassion is the character of God developed within His people.Agape, if we want to represent the God who is, we must become a people who reflect what He is.VII. APPLYING GOD'S COMPASSION TODAY1. When you are hurting, GOD MOVES TOWARD YOU, NOT AWAY FROM YOU.Some of you think God is disappointed or distant. No—He is moved by your pain.2. When you fail, GOD'S COMPASSION DOES NOT RUN OUT.Israel failed repeatedly—but God remained compassionate.3. When you see suffering, GOD WANTS TO MOVE THROUGH YOU.Compassion is not a feeling—it is participation.4. GOD'S COMPASSION IS STRONGER THAN YOUR GENERATIONAL PATTERNS.Three or four generations of sin cannot outweigh thousands of generations of God's loyal love.5. THE CROSS PROVES COMPASSION WINS.Jesus does not abandon His children—He gathers them.CONCLUSION — THE GOD WHO IS COMPASSIONATESO WHEN GOD REVEALS HIMSELF—not when Moses describes Him, not when people guess about Him, not when circumstances try to interpret Him— God tells Moses the very first word: COMPASSIONATE.THE God with a mother's heart…THE God who moves toward the hurting…THE God who feels deeply and acts timely…THE God who enters suffering, not avoids it…THE God who forgives before He judges…THE God whose love lasts to a thousand generations…THIS IS THE GOD WHO IS COMPASSIONATE.And this is where we begin 2026. Not with what we feel… BUT WITH WHO GOD IS.Today— Let's respond to the God who moves toward us.

Sometimes the world feels dark, doesn't it? Have you ever thought, “In all of this turmoil, can one person make a difference?” Well, the Bible says, yes! One person did make a huge difference. God sent His Son—Jesus—not just for one group of people, but to be a light to the nations, so that God's salvation could reach to the ends of the earth. And that light is still shining today, spreading out more and more all the time—through people like you and like me, who have simply said yes to God. If you've been longing for change in your life, this is your chance. God is reaching out to you now. Will you take His hand? Pray this with me. You can just say to Him: “God, I need Your light in my life. Fill me with Your hope—Your promised hope and help me to know You. Rescue me now, Lord Jesus.” Always remember, there is hope with God. I'm Andrew Palau. “You will do more than restore the people of Israel to me.     I will make you a light to the Gentiles,     and you will bring my salvation to the ends of the earth.” Isaiah 49:6 radio.hopewithgod.com

Today we're talking about one of the most importantsubjects in the entire Bible, and that is that we might know God. Paul'svery first prayer for the church in Ephesus, and the first of his four prisonprayers, is found here in verses 15-23. He begins by saying, "I do notcease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers." Now,it's amazing how to most of churches that he wrote to, or that he was part offounding, and that he was encouraging, that he talks about praying for them “withoutceasing”. Paul must have had an awesome continuous prayer life as he prayedfor the different saints in the different churches in the different places ofthe world. He was a man of prayer.  Whatdid Paul pray? His prayers were not for their material needs, that they wouldhave money, not that they could pay their bills, not that they could buildbetter and bigger buildings or churches. Those things could have been importantand maybe were important at times, but his prayer was that “the God of ourLord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to them the spirit of wisdomand revelation in the knowledge of Him”.  Icouldn't help but think of Hosea chapters 4 and 6. God said, "My peopleare destroyed for lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6). That is what happens whenwe fail to know who God is. Then Hosea gives this invitation from God in chapter6: "Come, let us return to the Lord" (v. 1). In verse 3, "Letus know, let us pursue the knowledge of the Lord." And then God speaksin verse 6, “For I desire mercy and not sacrifice and the knowledge of Godmore than burnt offerings”. God wants us to “know Him”.  Thoughthe knowledge of God is the highest knowledge possible, the atheist claimsthere is no God for us to know. The agnostic states that if there is a God, youcannot know Him. But Paul met God in the person of Jesus Christ. And he knowsthat a man really can't understand much of anything else without a knowledge ofGod. The knowledge of God is the beginning of wisdom. The “fear of the Lordis the beginning of wisdom”. Romans1 tells us that this willful ignorance of God led mankind into corruption andcondemnation. Paul describes the beginning of this progression with thesewords: “Who suppress the truth in unrighteousness” (v. 18). “Because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, butbecame futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened”(v. 21).  And then Paul goes on to showthe development of how willful ignorance leads to idolatry, substituting a liefor the truth, exchanging God the creator for a worship of the man who wascreated. It then develops into immorality and indecency. And it all begins withan unwillingness to know God as Creator, as Sustainer, as Governor, as Savior, and as the Judge of our lives. There is tremendous danger and consequences whenthe believer does not grow in the knowledge of God.  InPhilippians 3:10, Paul said, "That I might know Him and the power ofHis resurrection," meaning to be intimately acquainted with God. Toknow God personally is salvation. Jesus prayed in John 17:3; “And this iseternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whomYou have sent”. To know God is to increase in sanctification (Philippians3:10). And to know God leads to ultimate glorification (1 Corinthians 13:9-12). Myfriend, we are made in the image of God. And the better we know God, the moresatisfied we are in Him, and the more satisfied we are even in ourselves. And thatis how we bring the greatest glory to Him. That's what God desires. That iswhat Paul prayed for the believers at Ephesus. We should pray this for ourselves. We can pray this for others.  “ThatI might know Him”—God,the true, the only God. May the Lord help us today to love and live for Himwith all of our hearts.  Godbless!

Listen to Him: The Transfiguration and the Tent of the Heart Today's Homily reflects on the mystery of the Transfiguration, celebrated twice each year, . . . . . . and draws connections between the vision in the Book of Daniel, the Gospel account, and the liturgy of the Mass. The Homily emphasizes that the Transfiguration reveals Jesus not just as a foretaste of the Resurrection, but as the One who fully bears the divine authority, glory, and voice of God. On the mountain, the veil of His humility falls away, revealing His luminous divinity in the presence of Moses (the Law) and Elijah (the Prophets), both of whom find their fulfillment in Christ. Our Almighty Father Commands the Disciples to “Listen to Him” God's voice from the cloud affirms Jesus as His Son and commands the disciples to “listen to Him,” shifting focus from sight to hearing and from temporary visions to the enduring “tent of the heart.” The Homily applies this mystery to the Mass, where hearts are lifted with Christ, who becomes truly present on the altar. Receiving Him in the Eucharist is dwelling permanently with the fullness of God's self-revelation, a call to live daily in attentive listening to Him. Hear more within this Meditation Media. Listen to Him: The Transfiguration and the Tent of the Heart -------------------------------------------------------------- Quote from the Homily This is not the Lord rejecting Moses or Elijah. He speaks through them, but the fullness of his speaking is found in and through Jesus Christ. What Almighty God is saying to St. Peter, you only need one tent. You don't need three. You need that tent of permanence in your heart where you abide with him and listen to him and enthrone him and live with him. The Lord never says it's wrong to ask for what you did, but he clarifies what you should be asking for. Listen to him. Remain with him. Abide with him and why. The eye sees many things. But what the eye sees, passes very quickly and fades. However, listening, when we listen and when we retain what is said, what is heard continues to speak, and it remains. The parable of the prodigal son is about redemption, restoration, and reconciliation, and has a lot to say to us about the love of God for us today. Although we make mistakes and do things that are wrong God the Father is waiting for us to return to Him. Jesus has already redeemed/saved us, we are part of God's family, He always wants to bring us back into a good relationship with Him God has given us free will, we can reject or walk away from Him if we want although this is painful for Him if we do.

(This podcast was previously recorded and published on August 31, 2020)    Jesus Ministries, Joan Boney  ...   During the last days, many will grow cold. They are like dead men walking. And they do not realize they are asleep to the happenings around them. They grow cold to the Word of God and become numbed by that which they choose to see and hear.   A woman in our church group tried to follow a scripture by her own wisdom rather than turning to God. This is deadly!   I spoke with her about this. Several years ago, she gave some testimonies showing what the Spirit of God told her as HE taught her. But in the recent story, she was just following her own flesh (dead) and she didn't recognize what she was doing.   We really have to work to stay awake ... for iniquity abounds today and if we allow ourselves to sit among church friends who will not follow God we will also fall asleep with them and become as dead, just going through the motions ... or living in fear and reacting to that fear.   I've seen a woman in our church group be turned over to a reprobate mind by failing to follow the Spirit of God when HE brought ideas to her mind and by following her own fleshly ideas which were devilish.   Romans 1:28  And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;   I work at my salvation daily and even then I'm sometimes fearful and have need for extra meditation in scriptures to hold to the way of God.   Some of you do nothing but attend church. And you don't even recognize when that church group goes in a way opposite to the scriptures in the New Testament Bible!   You have no idea your name can be blotted out of the book of life.   Jesus said: Revelation 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life,   ==   Matthew 24:12-13 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.   13 But he that shall endure (in the Word of God) unto the end, the same shall be saved.      Galatians 5:19-21 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,  20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,  21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.      1 Corinthians 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, Who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.     2 Corinthians 5:9-11   Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of HIM (God).   10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.   11 Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; ...

For a 10% discount on Rabbi David Sutton's new book A Daily Dose of Perek Shira click the link below https://www.artscroll.com/Books/9781422644584.html Welcome to Daily Bitachon. Rabbenu Avraham, son of the Rambam, in his sefer HaMaspik L'ovdei Hashem, talks about different levels of bitachon . Previously, we discussed lackings in bitachon. Now we will discuss the positive. The first level he mentions is a person who hopes and yearns for the fulfilling of his needs from Hashem, because of Hashem's great mercy, although, at the same time, he's concerned and worried about getting what he wants because he thinks his sins might prevent Hashem's mercy. This means he believes in Hashem's mercy, and he knows he can receive it even though he's sinned, but he's still concerned that maybe he won't merit that mercy from Hashem. This, Rabbenu Avraham says, is called meyachel lechesed Hashem—hoping for the kindness of Hashem— and it's a great thing. David HaMelech talks about people like this throughout Tehillim and Rabbenu Avraham cites many of these pesukim. He says this type of person is given a title—he is called a Ba'al ma'alah zo. Someone who is on a certain level. What's the level? He is a Ba'al yir'ah v'tikvah/ He's a person who is both fearful and hopeful . That might sound like an oxymoron, but it's not. He's hopeful for Hashem's mercy, but fearful that maybe he won't merit His mercy. There are ways to receive Hashem's mercy. One of them, the Gemara says, is kol hamerachem al habriyot, merachamim alav min hashamayim—whoever has mercy on Hashem's creatures, has mercy upon him from Heaven. So we know Hashem has mercy, and we have to merit that mercy. It's not a contradiction to the fact that you get things through your bitachon, because you still need Hashem's mercy. Maybe I won't merit it. He brings a pasuk in Tehillim 147:11 that we've heard before, but he adds a beautiful explanation. It says: רוֹצֶ֣ה יְ֭הֹוָה אֶת־יְרֵאָ֑יו אֶת־הַֽמְיַחֲלִ֥ים לְחַסְדּֽוֹ / Hashem desires those who fear Him, those who hope for His kindness . The simple explanation (which we must always start with) is: Hashem is happy with those who fear Him—God-fearing people . And separately, He also likes people who hope for His kindness. That's definitely an explanation. But Rabbenu Avraham comes along and says no—they're not two different people. They're one person. They are yera'av/they are fearful. What are they fearful of? They're fearful of His punishment. And even though they are fearful of His punishment, at the same time, meyachalim lechasdo/they're hoping for His kindness. So it's a mixture of feelings, a mixture of emotions. And that's a wonderful level. That's level number one. Level number two is when beside hoping and yearning for Hashem to fulfill his needs, he also has what Rabbenu Avraham calls bikush penimi shebalev/an inner request of the heart— and an external one, on his tongue. He is actually asking. And that, he says, is called Doresh Hashem/He's searching…he quotes many pesukim like that… mevakesh panav korei el Hashem , Uvikashtem misham es Hashem Elokecha—you will search, you will ask for Him. This is a very interesting concept: He's taking a level of hope alone, where the person hasn't done anything yet. He didn't even ask. Hope doesn't mean I asked Hashem. I'm just hoping for the best. Hope is a wonderful thing— kivui , hope . But it has not yet turned into an actual, what we'll call, dialogue. It's just a hope. The next level is when I've taken that hope and turned it into bikush penimi—an inner request—and bikush chitzoni—an outer request , an expression of what's going on inside of me. And on this, he says, David HaMelech says ( and this is the pasuk that I say at the end of the Amidah, which starts with a ד , ends with a ד —my name is David. So I'll have an additional understanding tomorrow): דִּרְשׁ֤וּ יְהֹוָה֙ וְעֻזּ֔וֹ בַּקְּשׁ֥וּ פָנָ֖יו תָּמִֽיד׃ / Search for Hashem and His strength, constantly seek His presence. Which means: keep on asking, keep on yearning. He brings many pesukim for this point—that this is also included in a level of bitachon, the bitachon of bikush added on top of the hope. It's not separate. You can ask—just asking, that's a tefillah. That doesn't yet mean you have hope . You could ask without it coming from hope. But this is a bikush that's coming from hope. I'm looking for the connection, I'm looking for Hashem. Dorshei Hashem—those that are searching for Hashem, they will not be missing anything. Bakshu et Hashem, search for Hashem—kol anavei eretz, all those humble people. And he says there are endless pesukim talking about this level. So we have two levels: 1. The hope level 2. The prayer that is an expression of that hope.

This week, Pastor Chris shared a powerful message about approaching the throne of God with confidence. In a world filled with overwhelming needs and countless ways to cope—whether through distraction, isolation, or even unhealthy escapes—it's easy to ignore our deeper need for grace. We often find ourselves rationalizing or justifying our mistakes instead of bringing them to God. But a central message in the book of Hebrews is this: in moments of need and repentance, we're invited to draw near to God boldly. No matter what we may believe about ourselves—or even about Him—God consistently meets us with love, grace, and mercy.

Whether you're joining us in your car, home, or workplace, let's embark on this spiritual journey together and be reminded of the love and calling we have in Jesus. So, with joyful hearts, let's dive into today's readings and see how they speak into our lives! TODAY'S DEVOTION: Jesus breaks through our expectations. In today's readings, we find moments where God's presence and actions challenge the status quo. In the book of Numbers, the people of Israel are tested in their faith and obedience. They stand at a crossroads of trust and rebellion. In Mark's Gospel, Jesus challenges the rigid interpretations of the law held by the Pharisees by performing a healing on the Sabbath. He demonstrates that God's law is not about oppression but liberation and life. God's desire is not that we become ensnared in the limitations of legalism, but that we are set free into a vibrant relationship with Him, a life characterized by righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit—the true essence of the Kingdom of God. Jesus reveals the heart of God when he heals the man with the withered hand. He shows us that God's commandments are there to serve us, not the other way around. The Pharisees were trapped by their interpretation of scripture, missing the living Word standing in their midst. But Jesus calls us beyond the letter into the life-giving spirit, revealing that the ultimate purpose of scripture is to point us towards Him—God in flesh, full of grace and truth. Our call today is to move beyond mere legalism and into a life marked by the Spirit's presence. We are invited to live in the freedom of Jesus' love, to embrace the fullness of life he offers, and to walk in a relationship of grace and truth. This is the abundant life, full of healing and redemption that God desires for each of us. Let us open our hearts to the living Word, to Jesus Himself, who perfectly reveals the heart of the Father. May we continually pursue a deeper understanding of how He leads us through His Word, ever pointing us to Himself, our true rest and peace. That's the prayer I have for my own soul. That's the prayer I have for my family, for my wife, my daughters, and my son. And it's the prayer I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose  through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen.   Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. This teaching is from Matthew 24:29-39 We continue our study of Jesus' Mount Olivet Discourse with the verses in Matthew 24: 29-30 with the return of Jesus “coming on the clouds”* in power and glory. Coming on the clouds is referenced in Revelation 1:7 “Look, he is coming with the clouds,” and “every eye will see him…”  (There will be no doubt when Jesus returns!!) Coming on the clouds is also referenced in Daniel 7:13 “In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven.”*  As people begin to understand what Jesus is saying they will realize that what is written in the Old Testament refers to Jesus! Pastor circles back to some words from last week's teaching and shares further about the “abomination that causes desolation.” Matthew 24:15 ““So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination that causes desolation,' spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand.“  We take a look at some events that could be considered the abomination that causes desolation.       •    Antiochus Epiphanes (167BC) This event would probably have come into the disciples minds when Jesus said abomination that causes desolation. This Syrian king conquered Jerusalem and desecrated the temple by building an altar to zeus and sacrificing pigs on it. This lead to a great revolt by the Maccabees who threw out the Syrians and cleaned the temple.     •    Gaius Caligula (40AD) ordered a statue of himself to be set up in the temple at Jerusalem but before it could be done Gaius died.     •    Zealots in Winter (67/68 AD) during this revolt against Rome, zealots took over the temple and used it as their headquarters.     •    The Romans siege (70AD) when the temple and Jerusalem were destroyed (discussed last week). These all either were or could be the abomination that causes desolation. As we see in the Bible there are repeated themes and events: -God's people turn away from Him -judgement comes -God intervenes to save His people -His people rejoice -then they turn away from Him -God steps in to save His people -His people rejoice  -then they turn away from Him -it brings judgement on them -then He rescues them With this repeating theme we see that there could also be a     •    Future Event (? AD) and the reader will also still need to “understand” what Jesus is talking about. Matthew 24:31-33 We are tasked to learn the lesson that as we see all these signs of the times that Christ's return is ever nearer. He is coming soon! As we continue with our reading of today's verses we read that no one knows the day and hour of Jesus' return.  As in Noah's day when people were eating and drinking and knew nothing until the flood came, so it will be when Christ returns - many will be found unprepared. In today's Wisdom Nugget, we're exploring Psalm 33, verses 6 through 12. These verses are rich with awe, reminding us of the power and sovereignty of God in creation, in the direction of human history, and in the lives of those who trust Him. David, the psalmist, calls us to look beyond ourselves and into the greatness of God, whose plans and purposes are solid and unchanging. I'll start by reading Psalm 33:6-12 from the New Living Translation. Psalm 33:6-12 (NLT) 6 The Lord merely spoke, and the heavens were created. He breathed the word, and all the stars were born. 7 He assigned the sea its boundaries and locked the oceans in vast reservoirs. 8 Let the whole world fear the Lord, and let everyone stand in awe of Him. 9 For when He spoke, the world began! It appeared at His command. 10 The Lord frustrates the plans of the nations and thwarts all their schemes. 11 But the Lord's plans stand firm forever; His intentions can never be shaken. 12 What joy for the nation whose God is the Lord, whose people He has chosen as His inheritance. God's Power in Creation (Verses 6-7): Let's dive into verses 6 and 7, where David speaks about God's role as Creator. Verse 6 begins, “The Lord merely spoke, and the heavens were created. He breathed the word, and all the stars were born.” Here, we're reminded that God's power is unmatched. Creation wasn't a struggle or a lengthy process for Him—God simply spoke, and everything came into being. In a single breath, all the stars in the heavens burst into existence, vast and uncountable, each one a testament to His power and glory. This speaks to the ease with which God can do things that, to us, are utterly incomprehensible. Imagine the scale of this. Every star, every planet, every galaxy—God created them effortlessly. His words have the power to shape reality. This is a powerful reminder for us to trust His word. When He speaks, it carries weight, authority, and the power to bring things to pass. Verse 7 continues: “He assigned the sea its boundaries and locked the oceans in vast reservoirs.” God not only created the world but also established its boundaries and order. The seas, powerful and relentless, obey Him. He has set the boundaries for the oceans and keeps them within their limits. This detail isn't just about the physical boundaries of creation; it's a reminder that God's power is vast, yet precise. He governs every detail of the universe, large and small. In a world that often feels chaotic, it's comforting to remember that God has ordered creation with care and intention. He is in control, not only over the great expanses of the universe but also over the smallest details of our lives. When we feel overwhelmed or out of control, we can look to...

Our Realities Speak to Our Real Priorities MESSAGE SUMMARY: From the Gospel of Luke (12:32f): Our Realities Speak to Our Real Priorities In Luke 12:32f, Jesus speaks to His priorities for us by declaring that He has given His followers His kingdom. Living in His Kingdom sets Jesus' priorities for us. The goal for us is to live to kingdom priorities and not our own priorities. In Rick Warren's book The Purpose Driven Life, Rev. Warren presents five kingdom priorities: 1) worship; 2) fellowship; 3) discipleship; 4) ministry; and 5) evangelism. By being in fellowship with God, we can discern His priorities for our lives. Luke 12 speaks to two priorities for God's kingdom: 1) being ready followers, and 2) and being a responsible steward. To be a ready follower of Jesus, we must: 1) be ready to give; 2) is ready to go and serve the Lord; and 3) be ready to greet the Master. For the kingdom priority of being a ready steward, we must answer the question: “After being entrusted with God by much, are we being responsible for His gifts?”. With our trust in God, God, the Creator of the Universe trusts us – is your life worthy of God's trust? It is a deep privilege to know God's will for us and His trust for us. God will give us the tools and power to be good stewards of the trust that He has provided us if we are in fellowship with Him – God wants to bless us if we seek and follow His will for us. “For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit." (Romans 14:17).   TODAY'S PRAYER: Keeping the Sabbath, Lord, will require a lot of changes in the way I am living life. Teach me, Lord, how to take the next step with this in a way that fits my unique personality and situation. Help me to trust you with all that will remain unfinished and to enjoy my humble place in your very large world. In Jesus' name, amen. Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 129). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, I affirm that because of what God has done for me in His Son, Jesus, I AM A CHILD OF GOD. Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His Name, He gave the right to become children of God-- children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God. Joshua 2:1 - Rahab the Harlot - A Transformed Woman

Pastor Mike Impact Ministries

The storyline of the Bible is the story of people who by faith meet God and their lives are forever changed. When we come to Joshua 2, we meet a very interesting woman named Rahab, and throughout Scripture she is most often referred to as “Rahab the Harlot”, or the “prostitute”. God choses to reveal what kind of God He is often by the people He calls and uses to fulfill His kingdom purposes. When we read the stories of these individuals, we should find tremendous hope for ourselves as we realize that God is a God of grace, mercy, and love!   I couldn't help but think about how we have been studying about the life of Joshua who was called and prepared by God to take the place of the great Moses to lead to people into the Promise Land. From being born a slave in Egypt, redeemed by the blood of a lamb, crossing the Red Sea miraculously, becoming Moses' assistant, leading the army of Israel to victory over Amalek, by faith giving a good report after spying out the land, we see God at work in his life. He is a godly worshipper. Most of this training took place in the wilderness outside the Promise Land.   But at the same time God is at work inside the Promise Land, inside the City of Jericho, the first major obstacle between the people of Israel and their inheritance. God was revealing Himself to a prostitute that He was going to use to help the people of Israel conquer this great fortress. And as we will also find out that God is going to use in another wonderful way! In one chapter we go from Joshua, a godly worshipper, to Rahab, a pagan, idol worshipping prostitute. What an amazing story!!!!   Only two women are personally named in Hebrews 11, in the "The Hall of Fame of Faith": Sarah, the wife of Abraham (v. 11), and Rahab, the harlot of Jericho (v. 31). Sarah was a godly woman, the wife of the founder of the Hebrew race; and God used her dedicated body to bring Isaac into the world. But Rahab was an ungodly Gentile who worshiped pagan gods and sold her body for money. Humanly speaking, Sarah and Rahab had nothing in common. But from the divine viewpoint, Sarah and Rahab shared the most important thing in life: They both had exercised saving faith in the true and living God.   Not only does the Bible associate Rahab with Sarah; but in James 2:21-26, it also associates her with Abraham. James used both Abraham and Rahab to illustrate the fact that true saving faith always proves itself by good works.   But there's more! The Bible associates Rahab with the Messiah! When you read the genealogy of the Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 1, you find Rahab's name listed there (v. 5), along with Jacob, David, and the other famous people in the Messianic line. She has certainly come a long way from being a pagan prostitute to being an ancestress of the Messiah! "But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound" (Rom. 5:20).   But keep in mind that the most important thing about Rahab was her faith. That's the most important thing about any person, for "without faith it is impossible to please Him [God]" (Heb. 11:6). Not everything that is called "faith" is really true faith, the kind of faith that is described in the Bible. For the next few days, we are going to be looking at Joshua 2 and the kind of faith that Rahab had!   We so often get so accustomed to our “spiritual bubbles” that we live in, our homes, our church and fellowship groups, that we think that is the only place God is working! I'm encouraged by the story of Rahab to know that God is working even in the lives of people that are actively involved in this wicked evil world, and He is about to change them from a raging “Saul” to an Apostle Paul, that will turn the world upside down for Jesus!   Remember, God is ready to transform you today by His grace, mercy, love, and power, to be on mission with Him in changing this sinful world around us!   God bless!

So, let anxiety be the “red flag”, trigger to immediately pray and consider God in your future and even your present concern. Start by talking to God, praying, about your situation every time you think of it and you will see that your trust in God will increase and the anxiety will decrease because you have cast your cares on Jesus, 1 Peter 5:7, "Casting all your care upon Him(God); for He careth for you. (8) Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour." Don't wait until it gets so bad that you feel “all I can do now is pray”-pray when you recognize the first sign of anxiety.***There are many very important subjects not being taught in the Christian Community, many being taught incorrectly based on false beliefs, and some beliefs are completely made up and have no mention whatsoever in the Bible. Is pleasing God an impossible task? It is written, ". . . without faith, it is impossible to please Him (God) for he that comes to God must believe that He is . . .". Pleasing God begins with a clear acknowledgment that He exists, and He awaits the evidence of a willing, obedient life.

Through the years when I have taught on different ways God reveals Himself to us, or as we most often say, “How God speaks to us,” one of the most common first responses seems to be from someone, “You better not seek signs, the devil can trick or mislead you!” Or, “Jesus said we shouldn't seek signs.” Most people do not know the difference in Signs and Visible Answers to prayer. So today I will explain in a way that you won't have to be worried about mixing them up any more. I have heard many people say they are afraid to even pray, when they should be praying and seeking God for clear understandable answers to prayer. The devil trys to scare you from praying and seeking God's answer for then it allows the devil to be in control.****When you understand the difference between signs and visible answers to prayer, you will have the confidence to seek God in all situations and know without a doubt that He wants you to seek Him anytime for any concern with all your heart. Mark 1:1-20: A Wilderness Man and a Galilean Preacher

The Rev. David Boisclair, pastor of Faith and Bethesda Lutheran Churches in Pine Lawn, MO, joins the Rev. Dr. Phil Booe to study Mark 1:1-20. The gospel of Mark wastes no time launching into the life and ministry of Jesus Christ. This chapter introduces John the Baptist, a prophet sent to prepare the way for Christ's arrival. When Jesus comes to the Jordan to be baptized, a voice from heaven declares Him God's beloved Son. Immediately thereafter, Jesus is compelled by the Spirit into the wilderness where He undergoes temptation by Satan. Emerging victorious, Jesus travels to Galilee to proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God.  Beneath the fast-paced action of Jesus' ministry in the Gospel of Mark lies a profound theological message: we are all in bondage to sin and cannot free ourselves. Though Jesus performs mighty deeds and calls people to repent, they repeatedly fail to understand his true identity and mission. Even his disciples abandon him in his darkest hour. Yet Jesus willingly suffers and dies on the cross as a ransom for many, accomplishing what we could not do ourselves - securing our justification before God. Mark presents Jesus not just as a miracle worker but as the divine Savior whose atoning sacrifice makes salvation possible for lost sinners.

Hope with God... with Andrew and Wendy Palau

Who is Jesus? Here's one way to think about Him…God took all His love for us and put it into a person. That's Jesus—God's love in human form. But His love is not like ours. It doesn't change and fade. It doesn't abandon us when things get messy. And it's a love that's so much bigger and stronger than ours—so big that He was willing to sacrifice Himself for us in order to give us eternal life. 1 John 4 says… This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other. When we give our lives to Him, God enables us to give and receive love beyond our normal human capacity. Do you want the love of Jesus to flow through your heart and change your life? Open your heart. Receive Him today. Don't wait another day. radio.hopewithgod.com

Hope with God... with Andrew and Wendy Palau

There's a beautiful name for God used in the Old Testament—Adonai. It means Lord. The full meaning is Lord of all. It's a Hebrew word that refers to God's absolute authority. He's not just a Lord, He is the Lord. There are people in this world who have heard about Him, and they call Him God. And there are people in this world who know Him, not just about Him, and they call Him Lord. Is He your Adonai, not just a god, but your Lord? When you get to know Him and experience Him—when you have a relationship with Him—the only appropriate response is to call Him Lord. Do you know Him? You can today. You can move from knowing about God, to knowing Him for yourself. Always remember, there is hope with God. Scripture Reference: Psalm 86:15 radio.hopewithgod.com

And the high priest asked them, 28 saying, “Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this name? And look, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this Man's blood on us!” 29 But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: “We ought to obey God rather than men. 30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus whom you murdered by hanging on a tree. 31 Him God has exalted to His right hand to be Prince and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. 32 And we are His witnesses to these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him.”
