SHOW NOTES   In Podcast Episode 328, “She Encouraged Him in Doing Wrong,” Kim discusses the evil influences on King Ahaziah of Judah. Not only did his own mother encourage him in doing wrong, but he was advised in similar directions by other relatives. All of us have had at least one person who either encouraged us in doing wrong or did something to us that changed the trajectory of our lives. Sadly, some of us may have also been that person in the lives of others. SHOW NOTES   In Podcast Episode 326, “Having the Heart of the Good Shepherd,” Kim discusses the heart of the Good Shepherd, as detailed in John 10, and the importance of praying for that heart to be in leaders today. Sadly, many who have been privileged to proclaim the Word of God, either in a pulpit or in a concert setting, have acted more like the wolf than a Godly shepherd. As we have walked through the stories of Elisha and his ministry, we have encountered multiple times in which Elisha knew information he had not received through human means. Naaman, the commander of the Aramean army, was not pleased with how God's prophet Elisha addressed his request to be healed. He thought it would be handled a certain way, and when it wasn't, he was angry. Why would the Lord have judged the youths in the manner He did? SHOW NOTES:   In Podcast Episode 307, “Choose Your Allies Wisely,” Kim discusses the dangers of making alliances without consulting with and blessing of the Lord. We saw this played out as King Jehoshaphat made peace with King Ahab, one of the most evil rulers of all time, and then had a business alliance with King Ahaziah, who followed in the wicked footsteps of Ahab and Jezebel. May we learn from King Jehoshaphat's mistakes and only enter into alliances prayerfully and wisely.   Our focal passage for this episode is 1 Kings 22:41-53 and 2 Chronicles 20:31-37 with 2 Chronicles 20:37 as the focal verse:   37 Then Eliezer son of Dodavahu from Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat. Rev. Kim Smith retired as the District Superintendent of Iowa District of the Church of the Nazarene. He's now returning to the pastorate in a small church restart. SHOW NOTES:   In Podcast Episode 303, “Act in Fear of the Lord, with Faithfulness and an Undivided Heart,” Kim discusses King Jehoshaphat's instructions to the judges who would deal with matters of faith and how those same instructions can challenge each of us. We should also be challenged by a king's commitment to seeking God and encouraging the people to do the same. Students who participate in Study Abroad opportunities find that the experiences shape them long after the trip is through. In this Baylor Connections, a student and professor immerse listeners in their trip to Costa Rica. Kim Smith, clinical assistant professor in Health, Human Performance and Recreation, led the Health Sciences Abroad  trip; Will Bergin, a senior Health & Sciences Studies major, participated. They provide insights from a life-changing summer trip.

SHOW NOTES:   In Podcast Episode 300, “There Is No ‘Random' in God's Economy,“ Kim discusses the prophecies of God that were fulfilled in the demise of King Ahab of Israel. God used a “random” arrow to end Ahab's evil reign, but was it really “random.” If this were a true crime podcast, we would look at the evidence and conclude the means to the end of Ahab was anything but random. Ahab tried to hide from the providential hand of God, and this strategy was a total failure.   An alternate title for this episode would be, “You Can't Hide from the Providential Hand of the Lord (Instead, Hide Within).”   Our focal passage for this episode is 1 Kings 22:29-40 with 34 as the focal verse:   34 An Aramean soldier, however, randomly shot an arrow at the Israelite troops and hit the king of Israel between the joints of his armor. “Turn the horses and get me out of here!” Ahab groaned to the driver of his chariot. “I'm badly wounded!   Connected prophecies:   42 The prophet said to him, “This is what the Lord says: Because you have spared the man I said must be destroyed, now you must die in his place, and your people will die instead of his people.” (1 Kings 20:42)   19 Give him this message: ‘This is what the Lord says: Wasn't it enough that you killed Naboth?
