SHOW NOTES: In Podcast Episode 323, “The Miracle of Divine Insight,” Kim discusses the pattern of divine insights received and shared by the prophet Elisha. As we have walked through the stories of Elisha and his ministry, we have encountered multiple times in which Elisha knew information he had not received through human means. He had the inside scoop or the “before it happened” information. Why did the Lord trust Him with so many insights, and why might the Lord withhold insights from many followers today? Please tune in to hear Kim discuss some of her thoughts. Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Kings 6:32-7:2: 32 Elisha was sitting in his house with the elders of Israel when the king sent a messenger to summon him. But before the messenger arrived, Elisha said to the elders, “A murderer has sent a man to cut off my head. When he arrives, shut the door and keep him out. We will soon hear his master's steps following him.” 33 While Elisha was still saying this, the messenger arrived. And the king said, “All this misery is from the Lord! Why should I wait for the Lord any longer?” 1 Elisha replied, “Listen to this message from the Lord! This is what the Lord says: By this time tomorrow in the markets of Samaria, six quarts of choice flour will cost only one piece of silver, and twelve quarts of barley grain will cost only one piece of silver.” 2 The officer assisting the king said to the man of God, “That couldn't happen even if the Lord opened the windows of heaven!” But Elisha replied, “You will see it happen with your own eyes, but you won't be able to eat any of it!” WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE: Have you ever personally experienced the miracle of divine insight? Additional Resources and Scriptures: From Got Questions — “The biblical definition of a miracle would be something like this: ‘an event that involves the direct and powerful action of God, transcending the ordinary laws of nature and defying common expectations of behavior.' Miracles are extraordinary occurrences that can only be attributed to the supernatural work of God and demonstrate His involvement in human history.“ 27 But when she came to the man of God at the mountain, she fell to the ground before him and caught hold of his feet. Gehazi began to push her away, but the man of God said, “Leave her alone. She is deeply troubled, but the Lord has not told me what it is.” (2 Kings 4:27) 48 “How do you know about me?” Nathanael asked. Jesus replied, “I could see you under the fig tree before Philip found you.” (John 1:48) EMAIL — encouragingothersinlovingjesus@gmail.com TWITTER - https://twitter.com/EOinLovingJesus INSTAGRAM - https://www.instagram.com/encouragingothersinlovingjesus/ “Encouraging Others in Loving Jesus” YouTube Channel: Check it out at https://www.youtube.com/@EncouragingOthersInLovingJesus I WANT TO BEGIN A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS CHRIST. SHOW NOTES: In Podcast Episode 322, “Quicker to Point Fingers Than Bow Knees,” Kim discusses the importance of prayer and self-reflection amid challenging circumstances. Like King Joram in our story today, we struggle with the temptation to blame others and/or God when trouble comes our way. And, yes, sometimes the choices of others do lead to difficult circumstances for many. However, no matter the challenge and no matter the source(s), we can still go to the Lord and be drawn closer to Him in the process. Waste no opportunity to seek Him. Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Kings 6:24-31 with 30-31 as the focal verse: 30 When the king heard this, he tore his clothes in despair. And as the king walked along the wall, the people could see that he was wearing burlap under his robe next to his skin. 31 “May God strike me and even kill me if I don't separate Elisha's head from his shoulders this very day,” the king vowed. WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE: Do you have a tendency to be quicker to point fingers at others than to look inside your own heart? Additional Resources and Scriptures: 14 Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Kings 6:8-23, with 17 as the focal verse: 17 Then Elisha prayed, “O Lord, open his eyes and let him see!” The Lord opened the young man's eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire. SHOW NOTES: In Podcast Episode 320, “Don't Hesitate to Pray for Daily Needs,” Kim discusses the importance of taking our practical needs to the Lord. Instead of asking the Lord, we often ask others or are intent on fixing the situation ourselves. Let us learn from the floating axhead story that the extraordinary God provides, even for our ordinary needs. Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Kings 6:1-7, with 5 as the focal verse: 5 But as one of them was cutting a tree, his ax head fell into the river. “Oh, sir!” he cried. “It was a borrowed ax!” WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE: What is one current need you should place before the Lord? SHOW NOTES: In Podcast Episode 318, “But God, My Way Would Be Better,” Kim discusses the human tendency to question how God does things and the temptation to believe we could do better if the decisions were up to us. Naaman, the commander of the Aramean army, was not pleased with how God's prophet Elisha addressed his request to be healed. He thought it would be handled a certain way, and when it wasn't, he was angry. Before we condemn Naaman for his attitude, let's examine our own hearts. Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Kings 5:1-19 with 11-12 as the focal verses: 11 But Naaman became angry and stalked away. “I thought he would certainly come out to meet me!” he said. “I expected him to wave his hand over the leprosy and call on the name of the Lord his God and heal me! 12 Aren't the rivers of Damascus, the Abana and the Pharpar, better than any of the rivers of Israel? Why shouldn't I wash in them and be healed?” So Naaman turned and went away in a rage. WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE: When have you last questioned the Lord's methods? What insights do you now have? SHOW NOTES: In Podcast Episode 312, “The Danger Zone of Mocking God,” Kim discusses the challenging passage in 2 Kings 2 in which the prophet Elisha is ridiculed by a large group of young men. Why would the Lord have judged the youths in the manner He did? Always remember the words of the Apostle Paul — “You cannot mock the justice of God.” Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Kings 2:23-25 with 24 as the focal verse: 23 Elisha left Jericho and went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, a group of boys from the town began mocking and making fun of him. “Go away, baldy!” they chanted. “Go away, baldy!” 24 Elisha turned around and looked at them, and he cursed them in the name of the Lord. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of them. 25 From there Elisha went to Mount Carmel and finally returned to Samaria. Well, this is our…part 2 of our program in which we're addressing the Strange Fire Conference that was held at John MacArthur's church, Grace Community Church in Sun Valley in Southern California, and my partner in addressing this is Anton Bosch. As you'll recognize from Anton's accent, he's originally from South Africa, which…you know, when I ever have somebody on here from New Zealand or these countries, you guys are so much more articulate (laughing) that it's a thrill. You know, Paul Wilkinson from England as well. I go, “Oh brother, Tom. You'd better take some elocution lessons!”
“Jesus said, ‘Feed my sheep.'” – John 21:17In John 21, Jesus restores Peter after his denial, reminding him of his calling and commissioning him to feed His sheep. This powerful encounter reveals three key lessons for every believer:
SHOW NOTES: In Podcast Episode 311, “Don't Miss the REAL Miracle!” Kim discusses the seemingly simple story of the prophet Elisha and a water purification miracle that was much more than it seemed. This story is a reminder of the importance of understanding context, whether it be in the stories of the Bible or in the stories of our lives. You can miss the REAL miracle if you do not understand the context. Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Kings 2:19-22 with 19 as the focal verse: 19 One day the leaders of the town of Jericho visited Elisha. “We have a problem, my lord,” they told him. “This town is located in pleasant surroundings, as you can see. But the water is bad, and the land is unproductive.” 20 Elisha said, “Bring me a new bowl with salt in it.” So they brought it to him. 21 Then he went out to the spring that supplied the town with water and threw the salt into it. And he said, “This is what the Lord says: I have purified this water. It will no longer cause death or infertility.” 22 And the water has remained pure ever since, just as Elisha said. WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE: What miracle could have been missed in your life if someone had not known the full context? Additional Resources and Scriptures: 26 At that time Joshua invoked this curse: “May the curse of the Lord fall on anyone who tries to rebuild the town of Jericho. At the cost of his firstborn son, he will lay its foundation. At the cost of his youngest son, he will set up its gates.” (Joshua 6:26) 34 It was during his reign that Hiel, a man from Bethel, rebuilt Jericho. When he laid its foundations, it cost him the life of his oldest son, Abiram. And when he completed it and set up its gates, it cost him the life of his youngest son, Segub. This all happened according to the message from the Lord concerning Jericho spoken by Joshua son of Nun. Do you believe cleanliness is next to godliness? You've heard it many times, haven't you? It sounds like it's straight out of the Bible, but it's not! I'm pointing out five things the Bible does not say and let me assure you that the Bible does not say: Cleanliness is next to godliness. Now of course it's good to be clean and to keep your environment clean. God doesn't approve of sloppiness or unsterile places or people. But to suggest you must be clean to be godly is certainly not true. Furthermore, to say because you are dirty, you can't be close to God or know God is never right. Don't you think sometimes we isolate ourselves from people we might consider “unclean,” whose standards of dress or way of life is below what we might call acceptable? Jesus never did that, you know. He associated with lowly people—poor and needy people. Many times in my visits to Africa, I visited very basic homes—mud huts, small shacks in the slums of Nairobi, simple dwellings with very few comforts. I found some of the most godly people I've met in those places. The widows I visited in the slums of Nairobi told me how thankful they were for their home and how blessed they were to have a safe place for their children. Not one of them complained about their tin roofs or mud floors. I have a friend in Kenya whose home is very simple with few furnishings. Her kitchen is a cooking pit with large pans for washing. She grows her own vegetables and milks her own cows. She is one of the hardest working women I know, and she loves Jesus. Her influence in that part of Kenya is amazing. Most of us would not call her home sufficiently clean or sterile, but her godly life is a testimony and encouragement to all who know her. You know, God doesn't care about your outer cleanliness nearly as much as your inner cleanliness. Remember what he said to the very clean religious Pharisees: Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. . .on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness (Matthew 23:25,28). Cleanliness is not next to godliness. Loving Jesus and living for him is what makes us godly.
SHOW NOTES: In Podcast Episode 310, “Courage to Lay Hold of Your Calling,” Kim discusses the calling the Lord had placed on Elisha. When Elijah was taken up to heaven, Elisha “picked up Elijah's cloak,” which was symbolic of his laying hold of the Lord's calling. What is your calling? Have you laid hold of it or are you trying to avoid the entire idea of it? Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Kings 2:13-18 with 13 as the focal verse: 13 Elisha picked up Elijah's cloak, which had fallen when he was taken up. Then Elisha returned to the bank of the Jordan River. WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE: Have you ever asked the Lord to clarify His call for your life? May today be the day. Additional Resources and Scriptures: 19 So Elijah went and found Elisha son of Shaphat plowing a field. There were twelve teams of oxen in the field, and Elisha was plowing with the twelfth team. Elijah went over to him and threw his cloak across his shoulders and then walked away. 20 Elisha left the oxen standing there, ran after Elijah, and said to him, “First let me go and kiss my father and mother good-bye, and then I will go with you!” Elijah replied, “Go on back, but think about what I have done to you.” 21 So Elisha returned to his oxen and slaughtered them. He used the wood from the plow to build a fire to roast their flesh. He passed around the meat to the townspeople, and they all ate. Then he went with Elijah as his assistant.(1 Kings 19:19-21) 12 I don't mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. SHOW NOTES: In Podcast Episode 309, “EOL (Expansion of Life) Care,” Kim discusses the difference between EOL (End of Life) for unbelievers versus EOL (Expansion of Life) in the life of followers of Christ. May this last story from the life of Elijah encourage you and, through you, encourage others. Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Kings 2:1-12 with 11-12 as the focal verses: “As they were walking along and talking, suddenly a chariot of fire appeared, drawn by horses of fire. It drove between the two men, separating them, and Elijah was carried by a whirlwind into heaven. Elisha saw it and cried out, “My father! My father! I see the chariots and charioteers of Israel!” And as they disappeared from sight, Elisha tore his clothes in distress.” WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE: How has this reframing of “EOL” changed your outlook? SHOW NOTES: In Podcast Episode 308, “Holy Boldness til Home,” Kim discusses the holy boldness the prophet Elijah displayed until the end of his earthly life. May we all speak God's Word with boldness, today and all the days of our lives. Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Kings 1:1-18 with 3-4 as the focal verses: 3 But the angel of the Lord told Elijah, who was from Tishbe, “Go and confront the messengers of the king of Samaria and ask them, ‘Is there no God in Israel? Why are you going to Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron, to ask whether the king will recover? 4 Now, therefore, this is what the Lord says: You will never leave the bed you are lying on; you will surely die.'” So Elijah went to deliver the message. WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE: Are you displaying holy boldness now? How will you display holy boldness until you are home? Additional Resources and Scriptures: 18 Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere. 19 And pray for me, too. Ask God to give me the right words so I can boldly explain God's mysterious plan that the Good News is for Jews and Gentiles alike. 20 I am in chains now, still preaching this message as God's ambassador. So pray that I will keep on speaking boldly for him, as I should. SHOW NOTES: In Podcast Episode 307, “Choose Your Allies Wisely,” Kim discusses the dangers of making alliances without consulting with and blessing of the Lord. We saw this played out as King Jehoshaphat made peace with King Ahab, one of the most evil rulers of all time, and then had a business alliance with King Ahaziah, who followed in the wicked footsteps of Ahab and Jezebel. May we learn from King Jehoshaphat's mistakes and only enter into alliances prayerfully and wisely. Our focal passage for this episode is 1 Kings 22:41-53 and 2 Chronicles 20:31-37 with 2 Chronicles 20:37 as the focal verse: 37 Then Eliezer son of Dodavahu from Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat. He said, “Because you have allied yourself with King Ahaziah, the Lord will destroy your work.” So the ships met with disaster and never put out to sea. WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE: Who are your current allies? How would the Lord assess each relationship? Additional Resources and Scriptures: 33 Don't be fooled by those who say such things, for “bad company corrupts good character.” (1 Corinthians 15:33) 1 For three years there was no war between Aram and Israel. 2 Then during the third year, King Jehoshaphat of Judah went to visit King Ahab of Israel. 3 During the visit, the king of Israel said to his officials, “Do you realize that the town of Ramoth-gilead belongs to us? And yet we've done nothing to recapture it from the king of Aram!” 4 Then he turned to Jehoshaphat and asked, “Will you join me in battle to recover Ramoth-gilead?” Jehoshaphat replied to the king of Israel, “Why, of course! You and I are as one. My troops are your troops, and my horses are your horses.” (1 Kings 22:1-4) EMAIL — encouragingothersinlovingjesus@gmail.com TWITTER - https://twitter.com/EOinLovingJesus INSTAGRAM - https://www.instagram.com/encouragingothersinlovingjesus/ “Encouraging Others in Loving Jesus” YouTube Channel: Check it out at https://www.youtube.com/@EncouragingOthersInLovingJesus I WANT TO BEGIN A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS CHRIST. SHOW NOTES: In Podcast Episode 305, “Stand Still and Watch the Lord's Victory,” Kim discusses the incredible victory the Lord gave Judah when King Jehoshaphat and the people humbled themselves before Him. Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Chronicles 20:13-24 with 17 and 22 as the focal verses: 17 But you will not even need to fight. Take your positions; then stand still and watch the Lord's victory. He is with you, O people of Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or discouraged. Go out against them tomorrow, for the Lord is with you!” 22 At the very moment they began to sing and give praise, the Lord caused the armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir to start fighting among themselves.
