In the Cards (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (DS9), S5 E25) was recommended by Shay, She/Her, saying:"I love this episode for what it represents. It is the breath of fresh air right before the shit hits the fan regarding the Dominion War. The plot is light-hearted and doesn't take itself too seriously. Even Weyoun gets a cute moment at the end. And after this episode, everything basically changes forever. You don't really go back to these low stakes romps around the station with Nog and Jake once Season 5 ends"Was also recommended by Lauren Rivers who said:When it aired, I didn't think much of this episode. It wasn't bad, by any means, but it has come to mean a lot more to me over the years as it is one of the episodes to feature the friendship between Jake and Nog front and center. In an effort to surprise his father, he and his best friend go through a series of events to acquire a Willie Mays rookie card. Unable to tell anyone why, they must do favors for the senior staff to get what they need. Along the way, they are even captured by the Dominion. What makes this episode so wonderful is not only does it focus on the great chemistry between Cirroc Lofton and Aron Eisenberg, but it also reminds us of how much little things people do can have a butterfly effect. Do they save the universe? No. But everyone in the episode comes out of it a little bit happier, and sometimes that makes all the difference for what comes next. On a personal note, Aron Eisenberg was one of the few celebrities who I felt I knew on a somewhat personal level, and he is one of the few celebrity deaths to hit me as hard as a member of my own family. Any chance to highlight the remarkable talent and spirit that Aron had is a huge positive for me.In the Cards first aired on June 9, 1997, written by story by Truly Barr Clark & Scott J. Neal, teleplay by Ronald D. Moore, and directed by Michael DornJake wants to give his father a present to cheer him up, a 1951 Willie Mays baseball card. He enlists Nog to help him obtain it, but they run into complications with a mysterious geneticist, Dr. Giger. The Way to Eden (Star Trek: The Original Series (TOS), S3 E20) was recommended by Ria, who said: Listen to the Joy of Trek BrotherListen to the Joy of Trek BrotherStar Trek Episodes Not everybody likesKay & Khaki talk about the joys that they findChief Engineer Greg keeps them both in line.Yea, gay brothers, yeaHello, Keiko and Kai Winn and with just enough Scottish blood to warrant the title, Chief Engineer Greg. This is Ria from beautiful Phoenix, AZ USA where citrus trees abound and it is very easy to become an actual lemon stealing whore if one is not vigilant. If you recognized the little diddy earlier than you probably guessed the episode I'm recommending is TOS 320, the Way to Eden.I grew up on TOS and I always loved this episode without question and it was only within the last six to eight years that I was shocked to find out this is not considered to be a good episode? I wholeheartedly disagree. This is the original Star Trek musical, you have catchy songs that are great to sing along to, you've got purple-haired aliens, aliens with bizarro ears, you've got awesome hippie costumes, a shirtless Charles Napir, Chekov with an old flame. You've got Herberts, fabulous one-liners, you've got the tension between an increasingly mechanized and artificial society and our inherent human desire to remain close to nature. You've got a somewhat nerdy and uptight Captain Kirk, you've got Biblical references, Spock jamming on the Vulcan lyre and showing off his Vulcan hippie side. What is there not to love?So if you're not Herberts, man, and we reach, how bout a session on the way to Eden? It would sound!Do not give up your search for Eden. I have no doubt you will find it, or make it yourselves. The Way to Eden first aired on February 21, 1969, written by story by D. C. When the government of Bajor has another case of the yips, Kira meets up with her old murderin' friends with great hair as we review "Shakaar"! We get a real mixed bag of an episode as Kai Winn gives a straight up supervillan speech, the surface of Azeroth actually looks a bit messed up for a change, a disposable darts based B plot...all resulting in a jumble that is less then the sum of its parts.
Data and Fletcher review Star Trek Deep Space Nine Season 7 Episode 18 "'Til Death Do Us Part." Captain Sisko gets cold feet, while Kai Winn finds love in an unexpected place. Episode Notes Continuing our tradition of being totally unstuck in time, CONCLAVE DISCUSSION WARNING. And also we're doing some episodes out of order, sorry. Things Past: We go back to Terok Nor. Quark the collaborator. Dukat is so gross. Cardassian justice, the speed thereof. Another changeling? An Odo morality play. Maybe Garak episodes are only funny when Bashir is there. Rapture: Time for some Indiana Jonesing, and MDMA? New uniforms, and more Bajoran religion. Incontrovertible proof that Sisko is the emissary, which is super complicated for Kai Winn. Odo is probably a Master and Commander fan. BabSpace9 is a production of the Okay, So network. Connect with the show at @babylonpod.page Help us keep the lights on via our Patreon! Kai Winn continues to be one of the most duplicitous, unpalatable, self-serving, hypocritical leaders in Trek history - whew! Thank goodness it's just sci-fi.[Episode discussion begins around 1:12]
Space: the final frontier. Our Prime Directive: to boldly examine what Harry Potter has in common with Star Trek. Hosts Katy and Emily and producer Laurie have found themselves making Star Trek references on past episodes and realized that while Harry Potter is often compared to Star Wars, the future United Federation of Planets is less commonly put in dialogue with the wizarding world. We explore why that is and what looking at Potter and Trek side by side can uncover. Star Wars may be the more obvious point of comparison because it is a mythic story with fantasy elements and a hero's journey, but Trek, like Potter, deals with issues of prejudice, cultural relativism, fascism, justice, and institutional corruption. The magical world and the scientifically advanced society of Trek still have problems. We discuss which Star Trek series is the most like Potter and why it's Deep Space Nine. We compare the loathsome characters Dolores Umbridge and Kai Winn, the troublesome ones Peeves and Q, and the self-sacrificing nonhumans Dobby and Data. Both series also have mirrors (literal or figurative), time travel, and explorations of the past, even though Trek is set centuries in the future. Another important theme is the power of friendship - something that can transcend time, species, and genre. Live long and prosper, listeners!

Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Strange Bedfellows Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Rebinge Deep Space Nine S7E19: Strange Bedfellows. In this episode, Worf and Ezri finally sort out their issues and Kai Winn learns that it's not the prophets who she's been talking to. And in even bigger news, Damar has finally seen the light. Louise Fletcher continues on as a guest star as we roll to the end of the series. Strange Bedfellows Damar has finally hit rock bottom and decides maybe the booze is not helping him after all. Once he sobers up, he manages to pretty quickly see what the Dominion is up to regarding the Cardassian people (and it's not good). Meanwhile, Ezri and Worf continue to be held captive and continue to bicker like teenagers. Back on the station, Kai Winn learns she's been conversing the Pah-Wraiths NOT with the Prophets and she is none too pleased. Rebinging Star Trek DS9: 'Til Death Do Us Part Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Rebinge Deep Space Nine S7E18: 'Til Death Do Us Part. In this episode, Sisko takes a bold step against the prophets while Dukat plays on the ego of Kai Winn. Louise Fletcher returns as Kai Winn and Penny Johnson Jerald guest stars as Kasidy Yates. 'Til Death Do Us Part While Worf and Ezri toil away in a jail cell, Sisko frets over his latest vision. Turns out the prophets aren't too keen on Sisko getting married and this has really irritated pretty much everyone (especially Kasidy). Rebinging Star Trek DS9: The Reckoning Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Rebinge Deep Space Nine S6E21: The Reckoning. In this episode, the prophets and pah-wraiths visit the station for an old fashioned shoot out. Meanwhile, our favorite guest star Louise Fletcher makes us happy by making everyone else so very unhappy. She is a true pleasure to watch. The Reckoning Sisko is summoned to Bajor to examine an ancient relic that mentions the Emissary. When he decides to bring the 30,000 year old rock back to the station, Kai Winn is not amused. And we ultimately find the relic's purpose is to bring about The Reckoning where a pah-wraith and a prophet duke it out on the station! The only trouble is they need some bodies to inhabit. What's this rebinge thing? It's a re-watch of a thing you've already seen but love to watch and talk about. We go deep with every episode, walking you through every scene and analyzing all of the characters and story lines. Please listen to some of our favorite episodes like Duet, The Visitor or Sacrifice of Angels or our VERY SPECIAL episode: Star Trek First Contact. And be sure to listen to our previous episode S6E20: His Way. Next time... Join us next week for Season 6, episode 22: Valiant. Be sure and join our Facebook group and Follow Rebinge It on Twitter! Anika and Liz are letting their hair down and ... giving themselves to the Pah Wraiths? This seems like a bad idea... Remembering Louise Fletcher All Star Treks should end before they have a mediocre seventh season that undermines everything that came earlier We do not care for the Pah Wraiths as a concept Make sure you're sitting down because Liz has something nice to say about Rick Berman Kira is a Jewish Bajoran and Winn is a Christian Bajoran It turns out that if you watch all the Winn episodes in a short space of time, her season seven arc arc does not make sense at all Winn/Dukat is a textbook abusive relationship and it's troubling that fandom doesn't see that or thinks she deserved it The similarities between season 7 of DS9 and Revenge of the Sith are actually fairly impressive RIP Solbor, the only person who cared about Winn (and he didn't even like her) It's possible we're meant to find Winn's sensuality repellent (so once again Liz and Anika are Doing Star Trek Wrong) The intimate partner violence of it all If you'd like to see our notes for this episode (which include screencaps and shouting), you can click here.
Rebinging Star Trek DS9: In the Cards Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 5 episode 25 of Rebinge Deep Space Nine: In the Cards where we mix a light-hearted story (Jake and Nog) with one of gloom and doom (Kai Winn's fear of the Dominion). It's always great to have the the character of Kai Winn back in an episode but it comes on the heels of the announcement of Louise Fletcher's death at the age of 88. While we lose another great member of the Star Trek family, her contributions to the franchise will live on forever. In the Cards Sisko (and everyone else) are depressed and weary from the Dominion war. Jake and Nog decide to try and cheer up Sisko by obtaining a very rare baseball card. While they are working on that plan, they get inadvertently tangled in the precarious relationship between Bajor and the Dominion. What's this rebinge thing? It's a re-watch of a thing you've already seen but love to watch and talk about. We go deep with every episode, walking you through every scene and analyzing all of the characters and story lines. Please listen to some of our favorite episodes like Duet, The Visitor or Rejoined or our VERY SPECIAL episode: Star Trek First Contact. And be sure to listen to our previous episode S5E24: Empok Nor. Remembering Louise Fletcher Few characters in Star Trek elicit such a visceral reaction from fans than Winn Adami. Introduced as a Vedek, she was later chosen as kai—the first elected after the end of the Cardassian Occupation. In that role, rather than working in harmony with the Prophets, she actively worked against their chosen emissary. It is perhaps this friction that made her a fan favorite to hate, but the real reason might lay beyond the story, in the portrayal by actress Louise Fletcher. In this episode of The Orb, hosts C Bryan Jones and Matthew Rushing remember Fletcher, who passed away on September 23 at the age of 88. We reflect on how she brought Kai Winn to life, how her skill as an actor led the DS9 story in a different direction than first planned, and why Fletcher's Winn triggers self-reflection in so many of us. Nana Visitor on Being Kira Nerys and Beyond It's time to celebrate the 100th episode of Trek Untold, and we can't hit a milestone like that without having a great guest deserving of this number. Joining the show is Nana Visitor, AKA Kira Nerys from all seven seasons of Star Trek DS9! We discuss her upcoming book and documentary "A Woman's Trek," and how the role of women has changed on-screen and socially, and the early days of being Kira Nerys with the struggles she faced in life while simultaneously working on a TV series. Nana explains the hardships she went through as an actor portraying a trauma survivor in Kira and what she did to understand this Bajoran resistance soldier, and her journey as an actor through seven seasons to come to terms with who she was as a character, and how she related to her in real life. We break down the physicality and anxiety of becoming Kira and the indelible mark it left on Nana, discuss some difficult episodes of DS9, including "Duet" with Harris Yulin and "Ties of Blood and Water" with Lawrence Pressman, performing with Marc Alaimo and Louise Fletcher as her respective arch-rivals Gul Dukat and Kai Winn, fond memories of Rene Auberjonois and the romance between Odo and Kira, and lastly, we ask the question – is "Move Along Home" really the worst episode of DS9? Plus, memories of working with Angela Lansbury in the touring production of "Gypsy," Richard Dean Anderson on two episodes of "MacGyver," Star Trek action figure stories, the obscure "Working Girl" TV show Nana performed in that also starred Sandra Bullock, and more!
