His feature films include Autobiographical Filmmaker Seeks Camera-Friendly Companion (2025), The Sheik and I (2012), I Am a Sex Addict (2005), In the Bathtub of the World (2001), I Don't Hate Las Vegas Anymore (1994), and A Little Stiff (1991). He is also the creator of the web series The Show About the Show and the writer/host of the podcast 365 Stories I Want To Tell You Before We Both Die.With Ulysses, New York, Zahedi attempts to do to Joyce's Ulysses what Joyce did to Homer's The Odyssey: transpose a canonical work into a new time, place and form. The events of 16 June 1904 in Dublin are reimagined as taking place on 16 June 2022 in New York City, on the centenary of the novel's publication. Following eight actors performing in a Bloomsday stage production of Ulysses, the film moves between Joyce's chapters onstage and the corresponding hours of the actors' real day. He was a contributing curator for the Athens Biennale and was a founding member of Sound Acts Festival, the Athens Museum of Queer Arts (AMOQA) and the publishing initiative Queer Ink. In his creative practice as part of the artistic duo FYTA, he has performed in Athens, Geneva, Berlin and London. Louth. A First-Class Honours graduate of IADT, she wrote and directed Breastfriends (2018), which premiered at GAZE and won Best Irish Short before screening internationally. She was nominated for Best Under 25 Director at Underwire and has since directed music videos for artists including Elkae and PureGrand. In 2022, she was selected for Screen Ireland's Spotlight TV Comedy scheme. In years prior, Ennis was a hard-partier among a group of young people in the town who frequently drink, do drugs and engage in petty crime, branding themselves The Sesh Council. Ennis is contacted by Council member and former friend Tristan ‘Canner' Corcoran, who reveals their acquaintance, Fearghal, has been murdered. The two meet with Jessica ‘Seshica' Hegarty, the Grand Elder and leader of the Sesh Council, who tries to bring Ennis back into the fold to investigate the murder. A local young man and former classmate of Ennis, Mad Jack Wensleydale, takes credit for Fearghal's murder, vowing to rid the midlands of the crime and violence that the Council brings. It's made clear to the Council that he's not working alone. The two main creative minds behind the project were Adam Mura and Shane O'Baoill, who met studying film at college. They produced the series together with Adam in the director's chair and Shane serving as the Director of Photography. Adam went to school in the Midlands and most of his friends were from the area. This included two of the main characters portrayed by William Ennis and Tristan Canning.Joy ShannonJoy is an Irish harpist and singer whose ethereal and haunting songs come from depths of Irish folklore. Her melodies evoke images of witch's lairs in dark woods or the distant echoes of the voices of spirits in the ancient places of the Irish countryside.Joy Shannon's newest album release In the Forest Singing Sorrowless is inspired by author J.R.R. Tolkien's poetry, with Shannon's original music accompanying Tolkien's wonderful words. Shannon decided to create this album during a personally challenging year, when she went through medical treatments for breast cancer. Tolkien's works have always been an inspiration for Shannon, especially to have hope and purpose at the darkest times, so the recording of this album carried her through a difficult time. The resulting album is a mystical dream-walk through Tolkien's landscapes, through the magical lens of Shannon's intimate harp and vocals.Last year, Shannon released an album called An Chailleach, or Irish for the crone or elder goddess. For this album, Shannon delved into the lore of the dark wintertime goddess of Ireland, with stark and stunning compositions. Shannon's fascination with ancient lore, led her to this year's album, as Tolkien's works are similarly inspired by ancient mythologies. Through her signature dark folk, full of longing and a mystical air, her music pairs perfectly with the words of Tolkien.The record, which has been met with critical praise, was composed while Shannon was undergoing treatment for breast cancer. Shannon is set to head to Ireland in 2026 to shoot a new documentary titled The Cailleach, based on her own life experiences. Danielle goes big for St. Patrick's Day with the (probably mildly offensive to Irish everywhere) 1999 mini-series, The Magical Legend of the Leprechauns. When American, Randy Quaid, heads to Ireland on a mysterious work trip, he gets more than he bargained for when he realizes he's sharing a home with a leprechaun (Colm Meaney, obviously). He makes quite the impression on the small town (and Sam), when he immediately peeping-toms his beautiful neighbor, then trespasses on her property, and then somehow talks the town priest into taking his side when she complains; it's fine though, they're love interests. That can't matter less, however, because he quickly gets involved in the easily-prevented war between the faires and leprechauns. These immortal folk, who control all of nature, are forever at odds. When the fighting grows between their kind and Mother Nature starts to suffer, well-known Irish comedian Whoopi Goldberg (????), as their despotic Great Banshee, flies in to make it way worse by giving them the curse of mortality. When Princess Jessica of the fairies and leprechaun Mickey Muldoon, son of Colm Meaney, fall in love at a (possibly racist) masked ball, they soon realize that mortality will be the death of them (duh). Will these two kids make it? Will Whoopi Goldberg ever figure out her Irish accent? Will Randy Quaid end up behind bars where he likely belongs? Or will the war destroy them all and nature itself? The stakes have never been higher (and less necessary) this week on Book Retorts.

Paul Reiser is a comedian, actor, writer and producer who just happens to have starred in some of Team Empire's favourite films. So, when our Chris Hewitt was given the chance to talk to the star of Aliens, Diner, Whiplash, and Beverly Hills Cop, he jumped at the chance. The result is a wide-ranging and freewheeling chat about Reiser's astonishing start in Hollywood, his aversion to directing, his time spent working with Peter Falk, the experience of shooting Aliens and Whiplash and, of course, his new movie, The Problem With People, a charming Ireland-set comedy which he wrote and produced, as well as starring alongside Colm Meaney. Comedian, actor, television writer, author and musician Paul Reiser is one of Hollywood's most prolific creatives.2024 is a busy year for Reiser. On the heels of his new comedy The Problem with People which Reiser wrote, produced, and starred in alongside Colm Meaney and Jane Levy, Reiser has projects across a multitude of media formats. In March, Carter Burke, Reiser's iconic character from Aliens re-emerged in a What-if… concept comic book from Marvel comics and he appeared in the independent comedy The Gutter, directed by Isaiah and Yassir Lester. Honouring his father's last wish to reunite with the American side of his family, Irishman Ciáran calls his cousin, Barry, out of the blue with the offer for him to visit his homeland. Colm Meaney makes a vivid impression whenever he appears on stage, screen, or television. (His latest, Duchess, debuts on digital today, August 9.) More people probably know him from the two Star Trek series in which he appeared—The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine—but we remember him best as the father in The Commitments and its follow-ups The Van and The Snapper. Leonard and Jessie were pleased to find that he shares our fondness for that trilogy from Irish writer Roddy Doyle as well. But there's little he hasn't done, from John Huston's final film The Dead to Con Air  and an episode of The Simpsons where he played (what else?) a quintessential Irish bartender. He spoke to us from his getaway home in Majorca, Spain!
