It was almost exactly 10 years ago that the Portland Timbers visited Starfire Stadium for what would ultimately be known as the Red Card Wedding. With the Timbers returning to Starfire on Tuesday, now seems like a good time to re-release this episode that was first recorded in 2017.Back then, Jeremiah teamed up with former SB Nation colleague Richard Farley and Soccer Made in PDX's Chris Rifer to record and produce this episode. It features such notable voices as Brad Evans, Lamar Neagle, Andy Rose, Ross Fletcher, Caleb Porter, Jack Jewsbury and Nat Borchers as well as Jeff Hosking, who was an assistant ref in the game. For the uninitiated, this was among the more surreal games in Sounders history. It most famous featured Clint Dempsey getting ejected and literally ripping up the referee's notebook, but it also featured two other red cards (which combined with Obafemi Martins' injury forced the Sounders to finish the game with seven players).Even before that, the match was shaping up as a classic with two heated rivals trading blows in a match that went to overtime. You'll definitely want to give it a listen.***Nos Audietis is the flagship podcast for Sounder at Heart, which became a reader-supported website on Aug. 21. Hard to imagine how the season could have started any better than it has. As the Sounders enter the first international break of the season, they find themselves atop the Supporters' Shield standings as the league's only 3-0 team. They've outscored their opponents 10-3 along the way, including a 4-2 win over the Chicago Fire last weekend. The goals are flowing like perfectly heated chocolate from a fountain, and the front four of Raul Ruidiaz, Nico Lodeiro, Victor Rodriguez and Jordan Morris have combined for a rather astounding eight goals and seven assists. Fullbacks Kelvin Leerdam and Brad Smith have even gotten in on the act with a couple goals and an assist between them. In addition to discussing the Sounders' awesomeness, we also talked to Lamar Neagle about his new team, Game of Thrones and his thoughts on Sounders fashion. This week's music: Perry Como - "Seattle", "RVIVR - "Ocean Song", Woody Guthrie - "Roll On Columbia", "Your Journey Begins" - OurMusicBox (Jay Man) (CC BY 4.0) Thanks to James Woollard, Sounders Public Address Announcer, for doing our sponsor reads. Looking back at a solid match against the best in the West, as well as ahead to the Zlatan-led Galaxy. Plus, plenty of listener questions and the new segment featuring Lamar Neagle (not actually him, but we talk about him). I suppose I should have typed highlighting.
June 16, 2015 is a date that will always bear special significance to Seattle Sounders fans, and to a lesser degree those of the Portland Timbers. That was the Cascadia rivals faced off at Starfire Soccer Stadium in a U.S. Open Cup match. More relevantly, it was the day Clint Dempsey lost his mind, the Sounders finished the match with just seven players on the pitch and the Timbers became the first road team to win a competitive match against the Sounders at Starfire. We teamed up with Chris Rifer of Soccer Made in Portland and FourFourTwo's Richard Farley to tell the story of this fateful day through the people who experienced it first hand. We talked to Lamar Neagle, Andy Rose, Ross Fletcher, Nat Borchers, Caleb Porter, Jack Jewsbury and referee Jeff Hosking.

It's been a pretty good couple months for the Seattle Sounders. They're riding a seven-game unbeaten run and have won 4 of 5. They're within spitting distance of the top spot in the West and they're as healthy as they've been all year. Yet, there's a bit of a dark cloud over them in the form of a un-maximized (not sure if that's a word) roster spot. After what was apparently a several-month process of back and forth, the Sounders ultimately failed to sign Derlis Gonzalez. Sure, they were able to get TAM players Kelvin Leerdam and Victor Rodriguez, as well as bring back Lamar Neagle, but those players just lacked that fresh DP smell. Jeremiah and Aaron discuss all of these things, plus take your questions. This week's music: "Star Blazers Theme", Perry Como - "Seattle", RVIVR - “The Tide”, Woody Guthrie - "Roll On Columbia" Thanks to James Woollard, Sounders Public Address Announcer, for doing our sponsor reads. Another unbeaten weekend in Cascadia leaves two of our clubs firmly in playoff positions and the third just on the edge looking in. Prost Portland editor Matt Hoffman discusses the reasons why Timbers aren't getting the national respect they deserve yet. That's followed by a preview of their match in Toronto, where a result would certainly send a message to anyone sleeping on Portland. It's tough to tell whether it's two point dropped or a point gained as Carl Robinson continues to tinker with his ideal front four. Michael McColl of AFTN joins and give his takes on current playoff hopes, consistency, and the coming road match against New England. Who'll make the starting lineup for the Whitecaps, and will they do enough to keep pace with the Earthquakes for the last playoff spot in the West? The group closes out Ep. 120 by analyzing Sounders' 7-match unbeaten run. Were they firing on all cylinders in Minnesota? Derlis Gonzalez isn't coming to Seattle, but that doesn't mean we don't have interesting questions to ponder as the transfer window closes. Where does Victor Rodriguez fit into this team, given Will Bruin's form? How about Lamar Neagle, for that matter? It's another packed episode of Radio Cascadia -- tune in to hear takes on the biggest stories in the region from the likes of Michael McColl, Matt Hoffman, Ari Liljenwall, and Andrew Harvey. Speaking of Ari and Andrew, they joined Steven Agen in writing Resurgence: How Sounders FC Roared Back to Win MLS Cup, presale available now here. Former Seattle mayor Greg Nickels, ESPNFC.com & Prost Amerika writer Matt Pentz and Seattle sports journalism legend Art Thiel all feature as well in Prost Publishing's effort to commemorate Sounders' 2016 title-winning season. PLAYLIST: 00:00 - Cascadia goal/player of the week, MLS team of the week 07:10 - Timbers triumph over LA, VAR debut, and TFC away ft. Matt Hoffman 31:10 - Points dropped or gained? + Playoff hopes and a trip back east ft. Michael McColl 48:40 - Sounders hunt down Loons, unbeaten in 7 + Neagle/Rodriguez discussion

Today has been an insane day of news that it makes like everything seem like years ago. But it was only three days ago that D.C. United played against Toronto FC and got a point after having been down a man for over half the game! Jason, Ben, and Adam talk about that game, the start of which was the best D.C. United has played all year. We talk about TFC's performance in the game, Sean Franklin's up or down play, and the slew of tactics Ben Olsen used in the second half to stop TFC. In the second segment we go full-on news roundup, and today has already made some of this need further updates. We talk about Bruno Miranda and Zoltan Stieber, D.C. United's new wing acquisitions. We also talk about Gary Medel, the defensive midfield, and what the fact that they were offering all of that money means. We end by talking about two trades: that of Lamar Neagle, and that of Bobby Boswell (which broke while we were recording). Give it a listen!
With the Seattle Sounders and Portland Timbers set to meet in the U.S. Open Cup for the first time since the game we've dubbed "The Red Card Wedding," now seems as good a time as any to share a project we've been working on in conjunction with Soccer Made In Portland. This is only a teaser trailer, but it we're hoping to release the full thing within the next couple weeks. For now, though, we've got interviews with Ross Fletcher, Brad Evans, Lamar Neagle, Andy Rose, Nat Borchers and Jack Jewsbury in the can. They had some wonderful perspectives on the proceedings of that fateful night. For now, here's a taste of what's to come. Music credit: The Rains of Castamere

No technical difficulties will keep us from you, dear listeners! Adam, Jason, and Ben are back to talk about bureaucracy in action!, with the D.C. Zoning Commission hearing a presentation from D.C. United last night. The big news is that the supporters' section will be safe standing, but there are also still some complaints about the design of the stadium. We also talk about the US men's national team and Bruce Arena, and what all of this means both for the USMNT and for the LA Galaxy. We also talk about what we would do if we were a three-man coaching triumvirate of the Galaxy (hint: nothing good). We then move into cake or death, talking Collin Martin, Luke Mishu, Patrick Mullins, Lamar Neagle, and Patrick Nyarko, all before talking MLS Cup playoffs as we get ever closer to the final. Give it a listen!
It is our 200th episode! Jason, Ben, and Adam are here to bring you the 200th installment of Filibuster by talking about D.C. United's miraculous 2-2 draw against the New York Red Bulls. We talk about the comeback and the wing play of Lloyd Sam, Patrick Nyarko, and Lamar Neagle, before breaking down how the central midfield did without Luciano Acosta and raving about how much of a weapon Steve Birnbaum has become on set pieces. After the break, we talk about D.C. United's upcoming game against the Chicago Fire. We ask what's been going on with them since we last met, and how they will have David Accam back after his flirtation with going to France. Finally, we break down the three ways they attack and point you back to our previous episode on the Fire if you want to hear us gameplan them. Finally, we bust open a 200th episode Twitterbox! We answer questions about how long Luciano Acosta will be around, our recommendations on where to sit if you come up to RFK for a game. We compare Jalen Robinson and Kofi Opare, and talk about some D.C. United legends that are on the same level as Andrea Mancini. We give odds on whether or not FC Dallas will win the treble, answer whether or not there is something wrong with Bill Hamid, talk about the upcoming expansion draft, and estimate how many points D.C. United will need to be above the red line at the end of the season. Give it a listen!
The Filibuster team is united once again, and Jason, Adam, and Ben are here to talk about D.C. United's 2-2 draw with the Philadelphia Union. We talk about whether or not this is the turning point of the season, and have to keep talking about how the finishing needs to improve and how United is shot shy. We talk about how the game changed with the subs of Julian Buescher, Lamar Neagle, and Kennedy Igboananike, which also was around the same time Ben Olsen got sent off. Finally, we talk about Rob Vincent as a defensive midfielder and what we want to see against Portland. To help us preview the game against Portland Timbers, we bring on FourFourTwo USA's Richard Farley. We ask him about Portland's win over Sporting Kansas City and Porterball versus Bennyball. We have to talk about how Portland is yet to win a road game this year, and how they will try and win their first without Diego Chara. We talk about their new defenders, including Vytas, as well as the new forward line pairing of Jack McInerney and Fanendo Adi. Diego Valeri has been playing wide recently, so we have to dig into that, as well as who replaces Alvas Powell and the question of Adam Kwarasey versus Jake Gleeson. We then move into a bigger discussion of D.C. United and the whole Eastern Conference versus the Western Conference, before coming back around to ask how Portland would gameplan D.C. United. Filibuster is back on a Tuesday morning, and we're both happy (about soccer) and sad (about Prince). We start (7:30) by talking about D.C. United's 3-0 win over the New England Revolution, and we have to mention the Luciano Acosta goal. We talk about how Fabian Espindola got himself injured by shooting as well as the improved play of Bobby Boswell and the back four. We end by talking about the buildup to Lamar Neagle's penalty kick goal (and how nice it was to have a well taken penalty) and talk about Alvaro Saborio's goal and whether it should have counted. In the second segment we welcome back Sean Spence from Hot Time in Old Time to talk about D.C. United's upcoming trip to Chicago. We talk about the Fire's offensive woes so far and whether or not they are explicitly playing defense first. We compare Veljko Paunovic to Frank Yallop, and ask Sean about Paunovic's benching of Sean Johnson. We inquire about the state of a number of players, including Razvan Cocis, Kennedy Igboananike, and Gilberto (with a sad interlude about Harry Shipp), before ending by asking Sean how much he misses Chris Rolfe and Patrick Nyarko. Give it a listen!
Filibuster is finally back on a Tuesday, and we're here to review D.C. United's first regular season game. We have to talk about Mike Magee and the difference between the two halves against the LA Galaxy, the bad marking on set-pieces, and the benching of Fabian Espindola. We also ask about Lamar Neagle's defense when he was moved to the wing, whether Luciano Acosta will go 90 minutes, and Steve Birnbaum's head injuries. We end by giving our takeaways from this game, including United's new directness and Nick DeLeon's good game in the center of midfield. We then invite on Steve Stoehr from The Bent Musket to break down this weekend's game against the New England Revolution. We talk about the Revs' road draw in Houston, Diego Fagundez's resurgence, and the whole Jermaine Jones situation. We then discuss their system, their new right back in Je-Vaughn Watson, and why Kelyn Rowe was a central midfielder. Finally, we ask Steve about the Revs' stadium situation and how the gameplan the Revs this weekend. Give it a listen!
Hello, friends! It is time for another episode of Filibuster with Adam, Jason, and Ben! We preamble by talking about a change we would like to see to the MLS playoff system, but we start the show proper by talking about D.C. United's new badge and our initial reactions to it. Spoiler alert: We like it! We then have to talk about MLS Cup, and it takes us longer to intro this segment than it does for Portland Timbers to score on Columbus Crew SC. We talk about poor Steve Clark, whether or not these teams will be the favorites to return next year, Adam Kwarasey, the out of bounds ball, and much more. We turn our eyes to D.C. United after the break and talk about the trades involving Chris Pontius and Lamar Neagle as well as the three players released: Facundo Coria, Michael Farfan, and Jairo Arrieta. We end with our Cake or Death series, in which we review the seasons of Sean Franklin, Markus Halsti, Jared Jeffrey, Taylor Kemp, and Perry Kitchen. Give it a listen!
Even in the offseason, the Filibuster crew is hear to shout words at you about soccer. Jason, Adam, and Ben start off by talking about MLS Cup and whether or not Don Garber is happy with this final. We talk about the draw of the game to wider MLS and soccer fans, and who has the advantage between Columbus Crew SC and the Portland Timbers. We then turn our eyes to D.C. United, and talk about the trade of Chris Pontius to the Philadelphia Union. We talk about the ridiculousness that is the Union front office as well. Then we analyze the potential Lamar Neagle trade to United, and then break down MLS's Best XI. We end the podcast with our verdicts on whether or not Andrew Dykstra, Fabian Espindola, and Michael Farfan should be back next year. Give it a listen!
