We're back with our good friend Will Bruin, who we found out is busy updating his resume. We also found out that he was recruited to play on Sacha Kljestan's Des Moines Menace, although he's not quite ready to lace up the boots again. We're going to try to make this a monthly feature for as long as Will is otherwise unoccupied. Tonight on Sounders Weekly, Jackson Felts is joined by Garth Lagerwey, Will Bruin, Cristian Roldan and Jordan Morris to react to the win over Colorado, then Andrew Harvey takes us Around the Sound before Chris Saenz looks ahead to Friday's match against LAFC.
It's a lovefest on the podcast this week, as the Sounders come off a tough 1-1 result on the road vs Austin FC. Lots of great performances to breakdown, including Stefan Cleveland's heroics in goal and Will Bruin scoring his 75th career regular season MLS goal. In honor of the achievement, our hosts play a Will Bruin-inspired game of Over/Under before giving quick predictions for Thursday night's USA vs Mexico World Cup qualifier.

Seattle Sounders FC Head Coach Brian Schmetzer joins Dave Softy Mahler and Dick Fain to talk about the team's 3-0 loss in Los Angeles on Tuesday and turning recent losses into a positive, and the injury updates or statuses of Will Bruin, Nicolas Lodeiro, Raul Ruidiaz and Jordan Morris.
Side x Side is back with a special two-guest episode. Hosts Steve Zakuani and Brad Evans recap a successful Leagues Cup semifinal, and answer some Las Vegas-themed questions from fans. Sounders forward Will Bruin joins the pod to discuss his role on the squad, Supporter's Shield, and balancing winning Leagues Cup with ensuring a strong end of season heading into the playoffs. Then, we introduce the second special guest to the podcast, former Sounder from the USL days, Craig Tomlinson. He touches on his relationship with Brian Schmetzer, his journey from Jamaica to the United States, and joins the hosts in a quick game of Over/Under presented by Emerald Queen Casino.
Somewhat remarkably, the Sounders still find themselves coming out of the Gold Cup break undefeated through 13 games. They're sitting atop the Supporters' Shield standings with 29 points and have easily the best goal-difference at +15. More remarkable than all of that is they've managed this while missing as many as six potential starters for solid chunks of the season. Their latest win over the Houston Dynamo came without Nicolas Lodeiro, Stefan Frei, Nouhou, Shane O'Neill, Cristian Roldan and Will Bruin, which isn't even a complete list. We talk a ton about that but also get into things like Leagues Cup and whether or not we should care. All of us are handling this “stay home, stay safe” order in different ways. Some are getting house work done. Others are binging TV shows. A lot of us are simply trying to stay sane with a house full of people all the time. Will Bruin, like the rest of the soccer world, is trying to balance staying in game shape with all of this stuff. It's understandably wearing on him a bit. That's where we come in! In the latest episode of Bear With Us, we provided a list of six different houses full of six people —mostly current and former teammates of Will's — and asked him to pick one house to ride out the quarantine in. We also found out that he's doing a bit of “all of the above” from the list at the beginning. Give it a listen. Musics: "Bumped into Bigfoot" - Bedford; "Cutthroat" - prod. by Syndrome

For the fifth time, we've hosted something we lovingly dubbed YachtCon. Frankly, this one is going to be tough to top (which won't stop us from trying). Not only did we have an absolutely stellar panel of guests -- Brian Schmetzer, Jess Fishlock, Bethany Balcer, Bill Predmore, Brad Evans, Will Bruin and Garth Lagerwey -- but we finally had a venue that was all ours. Hale's Palladium felt just about perfect and we have some amazing ideas that we think at least have the potential to smooth out any rough edges. Among the highlights were Schmetzer talking about the "hazy" days of the CISL's Seattle SeaDogs, the players all facing off in an epic game of "Line 'em Up" and Lagerwey explaining some of the intricacies of the new CBA. In addition to having wonderful guests, we also raised a significant amount of money. We're still going through the full accounting of everything, but it's looking very likely that when it's all said and done that we'll exceed our $10,000 fundraising goal. All of that money will go to the Seattle Children's Autism Center, which they use on buying Big Red Safety Boxes for their families. If you'd like to contribute more to the cause, you can give a tax-deductible donation here. If you act quickly, you can still contribute by placing an order for one of our jerseys by filling out this order form: men's, women's. On a more personal note, it should be said that for all the talk of MLS's potential growth, events like this should be treasured. There might not be any teams in the world of the quality of the Seattle Sounders and Reign FC who are participating in a grassroots, fan-centric event like this. We also owe a big thank you to SB Nation, who agreed to cover most of our expenses this year and played a huge role in helping us reach our fundraising goal. But enough talk, If you weren't able to attend and would prefer to watch the highlights, check out our YouTube page. Otherwise, you can listen to the podcast version of the show here. While the Seattle Sounders have not been particularly active this offseason, Will Bruin has been doing his best to get ready as close to the start of the season as possible. The good news is that he says he should be back in full training in less than a month and could plausibly be ready to start by the end of March. Of course, all work and no play makes a bear go wild. Will found some time to visit family, as well as visit Hawaii while doing his best to keep up on the training regimen passed along by Sounders training. We also got Will's advice on things like managing a Seattle winter and proper Twitter etiquette. Musics: "Bumped into Bigfoot" - Bedford; "Cutthroat" - prod. by Syndrome

It took us three episodes to finally get here, but we finally have a name for Will Bruin's podcast. From henceforth it shall be dubbed “Bear with us.” We liked the double-entendre and thought it was playful enough without being overly punny. Anyway, we talked about the Sounders' chances in the playoffs, Will's experience in the broadcast booth and did our best to avoid talking about Jonathan Campbell's Instagram feed (we failed). We also brought back one of our favorite segments: #AskWillBruin. It's an advice segment, and if you'd like to submit your own query please email us at nosaudietis@gmail.com. Way back in February, Will Bruin off-handedly mentioned to me that he'd like to do a podcast. I didn't think much of it. But he was serious, or at least he seemed serious. He even announced it on Twitter. Well, I think he may have underestimated just how hard it is to find time for things like recording a new podcast when you are also becoming a first-time father. Six months later, though, we're finally here. Somehow, we managed to not settle on a name yet, bu this is the first of what I hope is many podcasts. The idea was to basically give Will room to just talk about stuff he's interested in. We touched on the upcoming MLS CBA negotiations, got his thoughts on League Cup and how he went down a YouTube hole watching Sasquatch videos. Oh, we talked a lot about Jonathan Campbell's Instagram page. Seriously, we talked a lot about that. Hope you enjoy and feel free to share ideas. It's been almost a month since we last recorded, so apologies for that. We haven't missed talking about anything good, though. The Sounders have not won since our last show, and are now riding a four-game losing streak across all competitions as they prepare for their next game on June 29. We don't have much good news to discuss. The latest gut punch is news from Miki Turner that Will Bruin suffered a “serious” ACL injury, which means he's at least out for the forseeable future and probably the rest of the year. That's on the heels of a loss to the Portland Timbers in the U.S. Open Cup and three losses to close out the first half of the year, all on the road, all by one goal and each frustrating for their own reasons. So let's get to talking. That's on the heels of a loss to the Portland Timbers in the U.S. Open Cup and three losses to close out the first half of the year, all on the road, all by one goal and each frustrating for their own reasons. So let's get to talking. This week's music: Perry Como - "Seattle", "RVIVR - "Ocean Song", Woody Guthrie - "Roll On Columbia", "Your Journey Begins" - OurMusicBox (Jay Man) (CC BY 4.0) Thanks to James Woollard, Sounders Public Address Announcer, for doing our sponsor reads. The Sounders are officially back in the playoffs, making it a perfect nine for nine. In fact, you can go back to the USL era and the Sounders have qualified for the playoffs in 11 straight seasons and have made it all but one year of the Adrian Hanauer-Brian Schmetzer era, which dates to 2002. This is no small feat on its own, but was punctuated nicely with a 4-0 win over FC Dallas. Say what you will about their recent struggles -- and they are significant -- beating anyone by that margin should give us some confidence. It was especially good to see Will Bruin get back onto the scoresheet, Victor Rodriguez continues to show that he might be the underrated signing of the summer and Nico Lodeiro and Clint Dempsey are up to their old tricks. All in all, a pretty satisfying way to go into the final game of the season where a win would clinch a first-round bye. Just writing these words feels totally wrong: The Seattle Sounders are off to their worst-ever start. Yes, that means worse than 2010, 2011 and even 2016. It's not that the Sounders have played bad, per se, but the results simply haven't been there. We tried to make sense of this start, discussed the recent news surrounding S2 and interviewed Will Bruin (who apparently lives in Ballard!). Enjoy.
