Christian Giudice is an academic researcher, focusing, among other subjects, on fin de siècle occultism in France and Italy, the development of post-Crowley Thelema, and the link between cinema and occultism. A Ph.D. scholar at Gothenburg University, he holds a BA in Literae Humaniores from Oxford University and an MA in Western Esotericism from Exeter University. He has published academic articles and reviews in journals such as Aries: Journal for the Study of Western Esotericism and The Pomegranate: The International Journal of Pagan Studies. In this episode we discuss the work of Kenneth Grant. Starfire Publishing: http://www.starfirepublishing.co.uk/ Inaccuracies in the discussion (courtesy of Michael Staley): 14:00 – Kenneth first came across Magick in Theory and Practice not in Watkins, but on a stall outside Schwemmers, a surrealist bookshop in the Charing Cross Road, just a few yards away from Watkins. 15:16 – Kenneth's father was not a clergyman, but a banker. Kenneth's mother's maiden name was Wyard, and many of the family male ancestors on that side had been clergymen. 31:17 – Achad believed not that the Aeon of Horus had ended, but that it continued but was augmented by that of Maat. A bit later in the interview, Chris does reflect this view. 39:50 – The transplutonic planet was called Isis, not Nuit. I think though that the confusion comes from Kenneth's naming of the Lodge as Nu-Isis, and he talks somewhere of Nuit-Isis. 44:25 – reference to Mike Magee's allegation that the first three volumes of the Typhonian Trilogies were fiction, Staley states he never heard anything like this. 59:55 – David Curwen, not Joseph Curwen, the latter being a character in Lovecraft's novel The Case of Charles Dexter Ward Become part of the Hermitix community: Hermitix Twitter - https://twitter.com/Hermitixpodcast Support Hermitix: Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/hermitix Donations: - https://www.paypal.me/hermitixpod Hermitix Merchandise - http://teespring.com/stores/hermitix-2 Bitcoin Donation Address: 3LAGEKBXEuE2pgc4oubExGTWtrKPuXDDLK Ethereum  Donation Address: 0x31e2a4a31B8563B8d238eC086daE9B75a00D9E74

Guest Mike Magee is President of Minerva University since April 2022. Prior to joining Minerva, he was the founding CEO of Chiefs for Change, a non-profit organization supporting leaders of many of the nation's largest and most innovative K-12 public education systems. Previously, Magee co-founded and was CEO of Rhode Island Mayoral Academies (RIMA). As CEO of RIMA, he built a statewide network of regional, racially, and economically diverse public schools while successfully advocating for sweeping changes to stat education policy. Before starting RIMA, Magee taught American literature and philosophy for a decade at Haverford College, Wheaton College, and the Rhode Island School of Design. In 2004, his book, Emancipating Pragmatism won the Elizabeth Agee Prize in American Studies. He is a Pahara-Aspen Education Fellow and for the past several years, has moderated seminars for both the Pahara Institute and the Aspen Global Leadership Network. Magee holds a Ph.D. in English from the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor's in political science and English from the College of the Holy Cross. Summary In this episode, Minerva University president Mike Magee and I explore why the school has been ranked the #1 innovative university in the U.S., which is initially evidenced by its unique invitation to apply for admission where prospective applicants are challenged to complete a puzzle. The deeper answer lies in Minerva's approach to education and people development. Listen for how its approach encompasses global cultural immersion, active learning, interdisciplinary curriculum, project-based learning, and a commitment to developing critical thinking, problem-solving skills, ethical orientation, and diverse perspectives for successful workforce preparation — and of equal importance, the social and emotional development of its students. For episode #2 of season 2 we are joined by author and journalist Mike Magee. Mike Magee is a well-known name to lovers and practitioners of Tantra to whom he has offered for decades the essential, condensed contents of many Tantras of the medieval period. This book is a fruit of his maturity and vast experience. Containing reliable translations and many Kālī Vidyàs, it is a valuable manual for practitioners and an important source for scholars. Magee has written since the 1960s on matters related to occult and esoteric religions. In 1971 he started a small occult magazine called Azoth, and in 1973 in conjunction with David Hall, and his girlfriend Janet Bailey, started a more ambitious six monthly magazine called SOTHiS. In 1978, he went to India and met with an English tantrik guru (and former student of Aleister Crowley) called HH Shri Gurudev Mahendranath (1911–1992) who was a guru of the Uttarakaula Tantric Order of northern India. Mahendranath gave him the title of a guru and a charter to form a group of students. Magee took the tantrik name of Lokanath. Later this was to become a nucleus for the "Arcane Magical Order of the Knights of Shambhala" (AMOOKOS). This group was highly influential, particularly in the way it brought Tantrik teachings to the West. Kali Magic brings together Mike Magee's decades of experience in translating and elucidating tantrik texts. The first section—Sadhana—explores the ritual worship of Kali through mantra, her various aspects, and her yantras. The second section—Tantras—includes new English translations of the Matrkabheda, Todala, and Yoni tantras, plus two Kali Upaniṣads and abstracts of ten tantras related to the worship of the goddess. With a comprehensive bibliography and glossary of key terms, Kali Magic will be of great value to devotees and scholars of the goddess alike. In the Plus show we discuss some of the rituals in Kali magic in relation to Western Ritual magic. We go through how Kali represents the killing of Ego. Tantra the similarity between sex and death. The importance of waking up. And how Mike sourced the materials found in the book. This week (for one week only) #THCB Gang was on Friday. Matthew Holt (@boltyboy) was joined by regulars medical historian Mike Magee (@drmikemagee), Fard Johnmar (@fardj), from digital health consultancy Enspektos, THCB regular writer Kim Bellard (@kimbbellard), and employer health expert Jennifer Benz (@jenbenz). Sadly Casey Quinlan was ill and couldn't join last minute. It was an extraordinary week, especially in terms of digital health investment. We talked a bit about that and a lot more about high deductible health plans, whether the filibuster will be busted, and what that might mean for Medicare for all. A wide ranging and big picture conversation!

Plus the wild world of SPACs, more funding for mental health, and the sausage making of health care's place in the upcoming stimulus bill. But I'm not sure the group is ready for the big policy move that the pandemic may give us the opportunity to pursue! A great conversation nonetheless.

The THCB Book Club is a discussion with leading health care authors, which will be released on the third Wednesday of every month. This month we hosted Jane Metcalfe (Founder of NEO.LIFE) to talk about her 2020 book NEO.LIFE. You can get a copy of it here! NEO.LIFE is a very unusual book. It's over 25 very short chapters (ranging from 1 page to 78) which include interviews, concepts, art, science, science fiction, and one short story. All from different authors or groups of authors that are all edited into place by Jane Metcalfe and Brian Bergstein. The topic is the future of humans! And the loose focus is on biotech, human engineering, and well watch along and get a copy! You can see the video below (and the podcast version will be in our iTunes & Spotify channels very soon). In October the THCB BookClub will feature Mike Magee's book, Code Blue.

In this mini-episode of Grow Kinder (at Home), Andrea and Mia discuss what school might look like for kids once classrooms reopen in the fall. They also introduce two guest hosts for this special episode: Colleen Oliver, CEO of Committee for Children, and Jordan Posamentier, director of policy and advocacy at Committee for Children. Colleen and Jordan interview Mike Magee, CEO of Chiefs for Change, a nonprofit bringing the CEOs of our nation's state departments of education and city school districts together to influence the future of learning in America. A cofounder and former CEO of Rhode Island Mayoral Academies, Mike has a long history of building statewide networks of regional, diverse-by-design public charter schools and has advocated for dramatic changes to state education policy. Mike discusses how superintendents across the nation responded to the COVID-19 pandemic; a brand-new report that provides education leaders with recommendations to prepare for reopening schools this fall; and the role social-emotional learning will play as students transition back to the classroom.
