Nichols was a dedicated marine conservationist who made a lasting impact on the ocean conservation community through his work and passion for the ocean. Known as a visionary and water warrior, Nichols devoted his life to advocating for the health of our oceans, holding various roles as a marine biologist, movement maker, and renowned scientist. His influence extended beyond scientific research as he spearheaded projects aimed at protecting and restoring our oceans. One of his significant contributions was the development of the Blue Mind concept, emphasizing the mental health benefits of being near, in, on, or underwater. This concept resonated with many, inspiring a deeper connection with the ocean. Through his efforts, Nichols motivated countless individuals to take action and care for the oceans, believing in the power of awe and connection to drive change rather than guilt and fear. His inclusive approach to conservation focused on building a stronger, more innovative, and diverse environmental community. Nichols' legacy lives on through organizations and movements he co-founded, such as the Plastic Pollution Coalition and the Blue Mind Movement. His dedication to mentoring and nurturing future leaders in marine conservation ensures that his work continues to inspire and influence others for years to come. In conclusion, Dr. Wallace J. Nichols was not just a marine conservationist but a visionary who touched many lives with his passion for the ocean. His legacy reminds us of the importance of connecting with nature and collaborating to protect our blue planet. Jay's legacy includes the creation of the Blue Mind movement, which highlights the mental health benefits of spending time near, in, on, or underwater. This concept, developed by Dr. Wallace J. Nichols, emphasizes the cognitive, emotional, psychological, social, physical, and spiritual benefits derived from healthy waters and oceans. Through his work, Jay aimed to connect every human with their "blue mind," a water-induced state of calm, unity, and inspired will to protect and restore nature. The Blue Mind movement evolved into a book, an academic project, a series of conferences, and more, spreading the message that the ocean profoundly impacts human mental health and well-being. Jay's ability to articulate the unique bond between humanity and the ocean challenged neurologists and scholars to study this relationship, showcasing his unparalleled understanding of what the ocean means to humans beyond its physical services. Jay's work with the Blue Mind movement inspired numerous environmental organizations, businesses, and educational institutions to incorporate the concept into their work. By promoting awe and connection rather than guilt and fear, Jay's approach to inspiring action led to transformative results. His dedication to ocean conservation and mental health advocacy through the Blue Mind movement continues to influence individuals worldwide, fostering a deeper connection with nature and innovative solutions to pressing environmental issues. Jay's commitment to family, slow living, and connecting people with nature serves as a powerful reminder to prioritize what truly matters in life. Throughout the episode, it is evident that Jay Nichols not only dedicated his life to marine conservation but also placed significant emphasis on his family and the importance of living a balanced and meaningful life. Jay's dedication to spending quality time with his family, as highlighted in the transcript, showcases his understanding of the importance of relationships and personal connections. Despite his busy career and impactful work in marine conservation, Jay made it a priority to be present for his wife, Dana, and his two daughters, Grace and Julia. His choice to live on the slow coast and engage in activities like the "hundred days of Blue Mind" with his family demonstrates his commitment to creating lasting memories and fostering strong family bonds. Moreover, Jay's advocacy for slow living and reconnecting with nature emphasizes the significance of taking time to appreciate the world around us. By encouraging people to spend time near, in, on, or underwater, Jay promoted the concept of the "Blue Mind State," a state of calm, unity, and inspiration derived from healthy waters and oceans. This message resonates as a reminder to slow down, immerse oneself in nature, and find solace in the beauty of the natural world. In essence, Jay Nichols' life and work serve as a poignant reminder to prioritize relationships, embrace a slower pace of living, and cultivate a deep connection with nature. His legacy inspires us to reflect on what truly matters in life – the love and support of family, the beauty of the natural world, and the profound impact of meaningful connections with others. Jay's example encourages us to seek balance, cherish moments of togetherness, and appreciate the wonders of the world around us.

The hogs are back yet again, with guest hog Andrew (@Zhadn_) in tow. Dan has the latest from New York's majorly stupid mayoral race. We are pleased to announce that Andrew Yang lost but saddened to say that Eric Adams is probably going to win. Just as Mr. Adams lives in Fort Lee, New Jersey, not New York, New York, Dan undeservedly received a jury duty notice for his home state of New Jersey, despite living in New York. Truly, the system has failed. Watch out for the transition where we start talking about how the President of Haiti was assassinated today by Spanish speakers impersonating the DEA. Dan really beefs the transition on that one. He's trying, folks... As we continue to hold Dan accountable, we issue a few corrections from prior episodes. For more of Dan being wrong, be sure to follow him on Twitter so he can get to 420 followers. As of recording we (he) only need(s) 5 more... It could be you! We also have a few cool videos of stuff blowing up. The thing is, they are both videos of bad things happening: one being the Los Angeles Police Department detonating "stolen" (we prefer to say "liberated") fireworks and taking out a city block in the process, and the other being the gaping hole of fire that opened up in the Gulf of Mexico. Yeah, yeah, both are pretty bad signs, but still, stuff blowing up is kinda cool. Dan Snyder, owner of the Washington Football Team and person who may have hired Sam at one point (he would have regretted it) has been fined for toxic workplace culture. We dig deeper to dish on how Dan Snyder is now cucked as his wife takes over operations of the racial slur football team. Andrew is the internet guy. He loves computers. He shares his thoughts on why OKCupid is a trash website, and why Alibaba is an insane platform hard for those of us in this tiny, dusty country to understand the scale of. We also delve into the recent disappearance of Alibaba founder Jack Ma from the public eye in China, and how he rocked out on guitar once. Speaking of scale and continuing with abrupt transitions, we revisit the largest mass shooting in US history and how we still don't know anything substantive about Stephen Paddock or his motives. Unless one of those guys with ideas about his involvement with the Saudis is on to something... To close out, Dan is forced to evaluate and understand Waluigi, including what his moveset would be in Super Smash Bros., and we share a few anecdotes about the many voices of the Mario Extended Universe. The reason we missed last week show is because Blackman got COVID-19. Jared Scott was in the studio this episode to give his take on how big Zack's Johnson and Mortal Kombat. Zack went to go see Mortal Kombat in theaters with Merv. Everyone give there take on the movie which Jared say it's kind of like Arbys. Zack and Blackman do a better 10 minute ad break for Escape RV to make up for the last time. Jared's dog is hurt so help out if you can. Link is also in the notes. Stay tuned for Patreon info where you can support the podcast and sponsorship info if you're interested in becoming a sponsor. Today's guest is Angela Romero, founder and President of the San Pedro Heritage Museum. I thought it was only fitting to have her start us out on Season 2 since she was my very first guest of the podcast. In this episode she talks about the museum's first commissioned work of art, a statue of famous writer and San Pedro local, Charles Bukowski. The project is still underway and won't be complete until Bukowski's 100'th birthday next year, and in the meantime, the San Pedro Heritage Museum will be working hard to raise the funds for it.
