Doug Poppa - The October 1 ShootingJune 14On October 1, 2017, a mass shooting occurred when 64-year-old Stephen Paddock opened fire on the crowd attending the Route 91 Harvest music festival on the Las Vegas Strip in Nevada from his 32nd-floor suites in the Mandalay Bay hotel. He fired more than 1,000 rounds, killing 60 people and wounding at least 413. The ensuing panic brought the total number of injured to approximately 867. About an hour later, he was found dead in his room from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The motive for the shooting is officially undetermined.The incident is the deadliest mass shooting by one gunman in American history. It focused attention on firearms laws in the U.S., particularly with regard to bump stocks, which Paddock used to fire shots in rapid succession, at a rate similar to that of automatic firearms. In just two days, we will mark the 6th anniversary of the Las Vegas shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival. Firing from the 32nd floor of Mandalay Bay, Stephen Paddock fired more than 1,000 rounds in 11 minutes. After killing 60 people and injuring nearly 500 people, Paddock turned the gun on himself. It is the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history. The motive? No one knows. That's right, the FBI is stumped. As well as the Las Vegas Metro Police. Last year, the FBI released documents in response to a FOIA request. Nothing in there exposes a motive either. It does give a little insight into Paddock's mindset, possibly. He is described as a “prolific gambler.” He would gamble anywhere from 6-8 hours a day playing video poker. Sometimes he played up to 18 hours a day. According to interviews conducted by the FBI of Paddock's friends and acquaintances, we know that Paddock described him as a “strange,” introverted, and someone who never made eye contact. Paddock only wanted to talk about gambling. Another gambler claims that Paddock was “very upset” that those days of pampering high rollers were over. The FBI's report from 2019 suggests Paddock might have sought notoriety and perhaps wanted to follow in the footsteps of this criminal father. The FBI also notes Paddock's physical and mental health was declining, as well as his money. But just because the FBI doesn't know what the motive doesn't mean they're worried to find out. Doug Poppa - The October 1 ShootingAn hour agoOn October 1, 2017, a mass shooting occurred when 64-year-old Stephen Paddock opened fire on the crowd attending the Route 91 Harvest music festival on the Las Vegas Strip in Nevada from his 32nd-floor suites in the Mandalay Bay hotel. He fired more than 1,000 rounds, killing 60 people and wounding at least 413. The ensuing panic brought the total number of injured to approximately 867. About an hour later, he was found dead in his room from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The motive for the shooting is officially undetermined.The incident is the deadliest mass shooting by one gunman in American history. It focused attention on firearms laws in the U.S., particularly with regard to bump stocks, which Paddock used to fire shots in rapid succession, at a rate similar to that of automatic firearms. On the night of October 1, 2017, 64 year old Stephen Paddock opened fire from his room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel in Las Vegas. He was able to fire over 1100 rounds in just 10 minutes time, from 10:05 pm to 10:15 pm. His target was the crowd of 22,000 people in the open field below his room. These people were attending the final night of the 3-day Route 91 Harvest Music festival. Country singer Jason Aldean was performing when the shooting began. In the end, 851 people were injured, and 58 people died. This incident is the deadliest mass shooting committed by an individual in the history of the country. The shooter also shot and killed himself, so the motive for the killing will probably never be known. But this story isn't about the cowardly killer. It's about a young lady named Kami. Kami lives in California, about 4 hours away from Las Vegas, and she was at the Harvest Festival with her parents, and her husband Eli. She was there when the shooting began. She saw the terror on people's faces as they ran for safety, and she saw the unfortunate ones that didn't make it. And here's another critical fact that will be an important part of Kami's story. She was at the festival for all three days. Day 3 is when the shooting took place. On day 1, she learned that she was pregnant. This episode is the first one in a new series called Flashback episodes. Kami first came on the podcast and told this story 5 years ago. And I get requests from listeners sometimes to follow up with the past guests and see how they're doing now. So today you'll hear Kami's story about escaping from the Las Vegas shooting, and after that, a brief conversation I had with her just recently about what's new in her life and her family. We take a look into the 2017 Las Vegas shooting that was blamed on patsy Stephen Paddock, a 64-year-old man from Mesquite, Nevada. According to the official narrative, Paddock opened fire on the crowd attending the Route 91 Harvest music festival on the Las Vegas Strip in Nevada. From his 32nd-floor suites in the Mandalay Bay hotel, he fired more than 1,000 bullets, killing 60 people and wounding at least 413.

On October 1, 2017 as Jason Aldean was on-stage gracing tens of thousands of adoring fans at the Route 91 Harvest music festival in Las Vegas, a flurry of rapid-fire bullets ripped through the night from high above on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay resort and casino. The shooter Stephen Paddock had come unglued and with multiple weapons and 1000's of rounds of ammunition he opened the gates of hell on concertgoers below. As the investigation into a motive reached a dead end, theories began to surface in many channels that perhaps Paddock wasn't a lone shooter and other cooler talk from some fairly reputable sources that perhaps this was the work of ISIS and Antifa. Just as Mr. Adams lives in Fort Lee, New Jersey, not New York, New York, Dan undeservedly received a jury duty notice for his home state of New Jersey, despite living in New York. Truly, the system has failed. Watch out for the transition where we start talking about how the President of Haiti was assassinated today by Spanish speakers impersonating the DEA. Dan really beefs the transition on that one. He's trying, folks... As we continue to hold Dan accountable, we issue a few corrections from prior episodes. Gun Laws Do Not Prevent Crime The answer to preventing mass killings is not more gun control; Stephen Paddock would have been able to get those guns regardless of whether or not owning them was illegal. He would have found a way to get those guns. Heroine is illegal, cocaine is illegal - there are all kinds of things that are illegal - it doesn't stop people from getting them. Criminals Will Break Any Law If you are a criminal, you are going to break the law, and clearly, if you're willing to murder, you're willing to break the law about gun ownership. Had the police not found him when he did, who knows how many people he would have indiscriminately murdered?  He still had a hundreds of unused bullets that he was intending to fire at the crowd. He didn't even know who he was shooting; he did not care who he hit. So clearly, someone who is willing to commit that kind of murder is willing to break the gun laws. Another Person With A Gun Could Prevent the Murder So gun control would not have prevented him from committing this crime.  Maybe if someone with a gun in the hotel had found him earlier they could have shot that guy in the back of the head before he had the chance to shoot as many people as he did. Beware of Overreaction What really scares me, though, too, is what kind of backlash we might have, what kind of overreaction for additional security at hotels. Will it be confined to just Las Vegas hotels, or hotels all over the country? I get visions of checking into a hotel being just like the TSA lines at the airports. There is no way to be sure that a hotel can keep guns out of a hotel room.  They don't have cameras inside hotel rooms.  Is it possible that if they had had extra security at check-in Stephen Paddock would not have been able to get his guns up to his room? He might not have, but this was obviously a premeditated act that took days of preparation, and he could have found a way around the safeguards, or devised another way of killing.
