This week we are locked in and turfed out of our hotel with Irish poker pro Turlough McHugh. The show has a WSOP wrap-up theme but the lads kick things off by asking Turlough to tell the story of his nightmare experience when he tested positive for Covid whilst staying in Ballys. The topic then switches to the positives and negatives of the WSOP's switch to Bally's/Paris from the Rio before moving on to ‘the rise of ladies groups' and an article penned by Dara this week. He elaborates on what he sees as a crucial step forward for women in the game, highlighting the group ‘Herzdamen' who he believes are going about their business the right way. From Dara's recent article to David's, the subject then changes to Unibet ambassador Magnus Carlsen and his new podcast ‘The Magnus Effect' in which he dropped a bombshell this week. The lads discuss his decision to withdraw from the world chess championships and ponder his possible move into the poker arena. Last but not least, the WSOP Main event victory of former guest and former Unibet Poker ambassador Espen Jørstad is discussed in detail. From Espen's financial woes in the run up to the Series to his bracelet in the Tag-Team event to his breathtaking run to the title, Dara and David weigh in. They also put his final hand under the microscope.

In today's episode, we are delighted to host James Rhodes, the Chairman, CEO, and Co-founder of Magnuss, a maritime technology firm. Rhodes brings over 30 years of experience in maritime shipping, renewable energy, investment banking, and management consulting. Magnuss delivers onboard systems that reduce fuel consumption and emissions for today's global shipping fleet. Rhodes joins us to talk about a technology called the Magnuss VOSS™ which stands for Vertically-variable Ocean Sail System. The Magnuss VOSS is a mechanical sail that converts wind into forwarding thrust thereby augmenting ship propulsion. Similarly to the Flettner Rotor, the Magnuss VOSS relies on the Magnus Effect, which states that a rotating cylinder in a wind stream produces a force perpendicular to the wind direction. When wind hits the rotating cylinder it sets up a high and low-pressure difference and creates thrust roughly ninety degrees to the wind direction. A vessel sailing with the wind on the beam is therefore given maximum forward thrust from the spinning VOSS. The idea is to have the sails act as a supplement to the ship's installed engine power. This will increase fuel economy and reduce harmful emissions by harnessing the wind. Join us to learn about how the VOSS addresses major issues in the shipping industry, namely energy consumption and environmental impact, and the mechanisms available to help ship owners finance the retrofit.Magnuss is running until June 28 a funds raising campaign on Start Engine.

This week, the Podcast rewrites the Wire kickers’ record books, following the application of the Magnus Effect and kinetic energy. Dennis’ Tacklebags’ new Rugby ball invention is far from a drag. Sam’s eyes water after hearing an anagram of Danny Walker. And can Rob perfect his Brian Cox impersonation before the podcast tracks down Warrington’s Greek winger Pheidippides on the Island of Lesbos? Plus, during an on-air tiff, the podcasters fall out over Toronto. Enjoy.
