In The Sideways Life of Denny Voss, Holly Kennedy brings humor & heart to a neurodivergent hero, sharing how Lake Union Publishing shaped her journey. What happens when good intentions collide with messy realities? Be ready, stay grounded, and communicate clearly — no matter what's at stake.Communicating under pressure isn't just a useful skill — it can be the difference between escalation and resolution. For Chris Voss, former FBI hostage negotiator and CEO of The Black Swan Group, it's a daily discipline built on empathy, self-regulation, and intentional listening. In this expanded conversation from our Spontaneous Speaking miniseries, Voss offers a rare window into the mindset and methods that helped him show up calm, focused, and adaptable when the pressure is sky-high.“Emotional intelligence is an insane accelerator to outcomes,” Voss shares, explaining how empathy, tone, and timing can shift the direction of any conversation. He breaks down techniques like labeling and mirroring, explores how to use silence and word choice strategically, and explains why overthinking can be just as risky as acting too fast. From gut-level pattern recognition to tactical use of voice, Voss shows how communication becomes more impactful when we're not trying to control — but to connect. In this episode of Think Fast, Talk Smart, Voss and host Matt Abrahams dive into how negotiation techniques developed for life-or-death situations can be applied far beyond them — offering powerful takeaways for anyone who needs to think clearly under pressure, stay agile in the moment, and communicate effectively when it matters most.Episode Reference Links:Chris Voss Chris's Book: Never Split the Difference Ep.197 Prep or Perish: Mastering In-the-Moment Communication (1 of 3)Ep.198 Pause and Effect: Mastering In-the-Moment Communication (2 of 3)Ep.199 Blunder Pressure: Mastering In-the-Moment Communication (3 of 3)Ep.203 No Script, No Problem: Final Secrets to Speaking Under Pressure (Bonus) Connect:Premium Signup >>>> Think Fast Talk Smart PremiumEmail Questions & Feedback >>> hello@fastersmarter.ioEpisode Transcripts >>> Think Fast Talk Smart WebsiteNewsletter Signup + English Language Learning >>> FasterSmarter.ioThink Fast Talk Smart >>> LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTubeMatt Abrahams >>> LinkedInChapters:(00:00) - Introduction (02:50) - Path to Hostage Negotiation (03:42) - Power of Emotional Intelligence (05:00) - Staying Calm Under Pressure (06:10) - Mental Prep & Mindset (07:18) - Trusting Your Gut (07:58) - Avoiding Overthinking (09:01) - Flexibility in Negotiations (10:15) - Listen More, Talk Less (10:31) - Labeling & Mirroring (12:51) - Tone Shapes Impact (14:06) - The Final Three Questions (19:37) - Conclusion *****Thank you to our sponsors:Strawberry.me. Exploring Israeli Wines: History, Innovation, and Unique Flavors with the Israeli Wine Producers Association Iwpa.com About the Guest(s): Josh Greenstein is the Executive Vice President of the Israeli Wine Producers Association (IWPA), which represents over 40 wineries from Israel, ranging from boutique operations to large-scale producers. His passion for wine runs deep, ingrained over five generations in the industry. Josh's family background includes ties to wine production going back to the Prohibition era, with his father working in the market for 47 years. Josh founded the IWPA to promote positive aspects of Israel through its burgeoning wine industry, advocating for the recognition of Israel as a world-class wine region. Episode Summary: Join Chris Voss on this episode of The Chris Voss Show as he delves into the dynamic world of Israeli wines with Josh Greenstein, the Executive Vice President of the Israeli Wine Producers Association. With over 5,000 years of wine-making heritage, Israel is carving out a name for itself on the global stage as a region worthy of oenophile exploration. Josh shares the fascinating story of how Israeli wines have emerged from a historical context powered by ancient viticultural techniques and modern innovations. In this enthralling conversation, Voss and Greenstein unravel the uniqueness of Israeli wines, exploring the diverse microclimates and soil types that lend to the country's distinctive terroirs. They dive into the significance of kosher wines, the contributions of the storied Rothschild family, and the innovative spirit enveloping Israeli winemakers. Josh emphasizes the value of trials in vineyards that harken back to Biblical times while advocating for greater awareness and presence of Israeli wines in global markets, especially in the United States. For anyone intrigued by the intersection of tradition, technology, and taste, this episode is a must-listen. Key Takeaways: Israeli Wine Heritage: Israel boasts a winemaking history that spans over 5,000 years, incorporating ancient techniques with modern innovations. Innovative Viticulture: Israeli winemakers utilize advanced technology, such as drip irrigation and enhanced grape stress management, leading to high-quality wine production. Unique Terroir: Israel's diverse microclimates and soil types contribute to distinctive flavors and enable the growth of a variety of grape types, including varieties unique to the region. Kosher Wines: All the wines represented by the IWPA are kosher, although kosher certification is more about cleanliness and ethical processing rather than quality differentiation. Market Penetration: While Israeli wines are available across the U.S., increasing awareness and consumer interest is key to their expansion in international markets. Notable Quotes: "Israel has been making wine for about 5,000 years… finally got recognized for being good at it." – Josh Greenstein "CAB is still king, but we're seeing more wineries producing fun, lighter bodied wines like roses and whites." – Josh Greenstein "You know, wine is historical, wine is fun, wine is friendly… an amazing thing." – Josh Greenstein "People have the ability to go search it up themselves. Customers are very educated these days." – Josh Greenstein "Drip irrigation, which was invented in Israel… really changed the farming world." – Josh Greenstein Resources: Israeli Wine Producers Association (IWPA): Follow the IWPA on Instagram at @IsraeliWine Josh Greenstein: Connect with Josh on Instagram at @JAGWines Learn About Israeli Wines: Additional details can be found by visiting Goodreads for Chris Voss goodreads.com/chrisvoss Connect with Chris Voss: Follow on LinkedIn linkedin.com/in/chrisvoss Discover the intricate flavors of Israeli wines and delve into the historical and cultural narratives that shape them. Making beer commercially in New York City is so difficult that it all but stopped until the previous decade's craft-beer boom rekindled the fire. Today, about 40 breweries make beer in the city, but doing so comes with its own set of rules. Beyond the regulatory and logistical hurdles, there's an underlying creative challenge: NYC is the culinary capital of the United States, and competition for space on bar and restaurant menus is pitched. Without great beer, great branding, a point of view, and a way to generate new and engaging stories, it's easy for a brewery to get lost in the noise. That's why KCBC (https://kcbcbeer.com)—opened in 2016 by homebrewers-turned-pros in the vibrantly diverse Bushwick neighborhood—leans into the city's energy with graphic storytelling through branding, and with a constantly shifting lineup that tells interesting tales about the wider world of beer. In this episode, cofounder Tony Bellis and head brewer Bobby Rolandi discuss: brewing hazy IPA with Voss kveik rather than more popular strains drier New England–style IPAs with finishing gravities around 3.5°P (1.014) developing three distinct templates for hazy IPA recipes avoiding chewier grains such as oats in favor of flaked and malted wheat fermenting cooler and with a cooler dry hop for smoother extraction achieving modern flavors in West Coast–style IPAs using classic hops experimenting with hops and fermentation in the lager space using 34/70 for IPA fermentation while using a Budvar-derived strain for lagers And more. This episode is brought to you by: G&D Chillers (https://gdchillers.com): For years G&D Chillers has chilled the beers you love, partnering with 3,000+ breweries across North America and beyond. In this episode, Kyle Malnati interviews Jocelyn Vas, the Chief Knowledge Officer of a real estate technology company called Final Offer. Vas explains how Final Offer is disrupting the traditional home buying and selling process by providing real-time alerts whenever an offer is made on a property. This brings much-needed transparency that has been lacking in the industry, allowing both agents and consumers to have the same information at the same time. Vas emphasizes that Final Offer is not meant to replace real estate agents, but rather empower them with better data and tools to serve their clients more effectively. She shares how the company's founder, who is also an agent, created Final Offer out of frustration with buyers missing out on properties and sellers potentially leaving money on the table due to a lack of visibility into the offer process. Voss believes embracing innovative technologies like this is crucial for agents to survive and thrive in the evolving real estate landscape.

Sometimes Billy says things and we don't even realise he's stuffed up, but he kicks off the show with the All Sports Report - as the Suns and Bombers make changes ahead of the final game of the 2025 season. Triple M Footy's Kate McCarthy calls in to discuss Mitch Brown becoming the first openly bisexual AFL player - what it means for the queer community, and why the AFLW is light years ahead of the AFL in this space. Jack and Bryce battle it out in a very chaotic Hump Day Quiz, and Supercars legend Mark Winterbottom is in studio to talk about his new book and the Supercars Grand Final happening in Adelaide later this year. Billy has a new showbiz segment, JB had a nightmare day at the shops, and Fremantle's Patrick Voss calls in as he gears up for his first finals series. VIOLET VOSS IS COMING.... FOR EVERYTHING.In just eight months of mainstream porn, Violet Voss has already filmed for Brazzers, Team Skeet, and, yes — she rode The Bang Bus. This week, the Adult Star and OnlyFans Creator joins Dustin to break down her rise, her ride, and the raw, sweaty chaos that comes with getting railed in a van with no A/C somewhere in South Florida. We talk about the scene where she strapped one on and went full dom, the positions that left her breathless (and clueless about what they were even called), and her honest preferences when it comes to where a guy finishes. Violet also gets into her old-Hollywood-meets-goth-punk energy, how it feels to be constantly compared to Morticia Addams, and whether we'll ever get the Stepmom/Stepdaughter Wednesday/Addams Family porn parody she was clearly born to star in.From facials to femdom, submission to sweat, and gangbangs that might be coming soon — we're going inside Violet Voss, and we're going deep.Welcome to EP 188: "Inside Violet Voss" with Violet Voss.Watch the video version of the show on YouTubeYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIuCkOl_XummXVdu1t3XOuQFollow Violet VossInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/violetvossxo (@violetvossxo)Follow the showInstagram: https://instagram.com/sexparty.fm (@sexparty.fm)Twitter: https://twitter.com/sexpartyfm (@sexpartyfm)Follow Dustin Instagram: https://instagram.com/dustin.rybka (@dustin.rybka)Twitter: https://twitter.com/dustinrybka (@dustinrybka)Sex Party with Dustin Rybka

We thought we should get this topic out before we wrap our season (and Bill's regular participation) and reach 100 episodes. We go through the main theories (superiority, incongruity/surprise, unconscious triggering, i.e. funny because it's true on some level we don't necessarily want to admit). In this episode of the Epigenetics Podcast, we talked with Erica Korb from the University of Pennsylvania about her work on BRD4 and the histone variant H2BE, which influences synaptic genes and neuronal activity. Dr. Korb discusses the focus of her lab, which centers on epigenetic mechanisms impacting gene regulation in neurons. Her research primarily examines histone biology and its connection to neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disabilities. Dr. Korb expounds on the collaborative environment at UPenn's Epigenetics Institute, emphasizing how the rich diversity of research topics fosters innovative ideas and projects within the community. Reflecting on her earlier work from her postdoctoral studies, Dr. Korb discusses her first significant findings regarding the protein BRD4. This work demonstrated BRD4's role in mediating transcriptional regulation crucial for learning and memory processes. She explains how disrupting this protein's function in neurons hindered critical gene activations required for memory formation in mice. This foundational understanding opened avenues for exploring the broader implications of chromatin regulation in various neurodevelopmental conditions. Transitioning into her current research endeavors, Dr. Korb reveals how she aims to expand her focus beyond Fragile X syndrome. With her lab now investigating multiple chromatin regulators implicated in various forms of autism spectrum disorders, she describes a recent project where RNA sequencing exposed substantial overlaps in gene expression changes associated with five distinct chromatin modifiers, each contributing uniquely to neuronal function while collectively demonstrating sensitivity to chromatin disruptions. A significant portion of the discussion centers around Dr. Korb's unexpected exploration into how COVID-19 intersects with chromatin biology through a phenomenon known as histone mimicry. Leveraging bioinformatic tools during the pandemic, her lab discovered that certain viral proteins mimic histone sequences, which may lead to altered transcriptional outputs in host cells. This coincidental finding illustrates both the creative adaptability needed in scientific research and the importance of collaborative efforts across disciplines to uncover new insights. The conversation also delves into Dr. Korb's recent work regarding the histone variant H2BE, initiated by one of her graduate students. She explains how prior research only recognized H2BE's expression in the olfactory system, yet her lab has demonstrated its significant role in regulating synaptic genes and memory formation throughout broader neuronal contexts. Notably, they identified a single amino acid change that influences H2BE's function in chromatin accessibility and gene transcription, emphasizing its potential evolutionary conservation across species. In terms of H2BE's role, Dr. Korb elucidates that its activity is integral in response to extracellular stimuli, particularly within the context of neuronal activation. Intriguingly, they found that H2BE expression decreases in reaction to long-term neuronal stimulation, suggesting a complex mechanism of homeostatic plasticity crucial for regulating neuronal activity levels. This research not only advances understanding of chromatin dynamics but also holds implications for neuronal health and disease mechanisms. References Feierman, E. R., Louzon, S., Prescott, N.
