Darren 'Florida Man' Dreger joins Episode 48 with the latest from the NHL's General Manager Meetings in sunny Palm Beach, Fla., and sports documentary podcaster Scott Rintoul stops by to talk his new pod out now on the Canucks' famed West Coast Express hockey line. In Headlines, among other items, the guys discuss the potential implications for the Eastern Conference playoffs following Monday's announcement that Carolina's Andrei Svechnikov is out indefinitely after suffering a knee injury on the weekend against Vegas. The guys talk about the NHL GMs discussions around expanding video review, and the dangers for the game of going down that endless 'missed call' rabbit hole. Sports documentary podcaster Scott Rintoul stops by to talk about his latest doc series, which covers the rise and fall of the West Coast Express—the dominant league-leading Vancouver hockey line of Markus Naslund, Todd Bertuzzi and Brendan Morrison—told in their own words. Scotty details how he put the documentary podcast series together and how that WCE line took hockey fans in Vancouver and across the league on a wild ride, eclipsing new heights and dealing with unbelievable drama and defeats. Having squandered an opportunity for a lengthy playoff run, the Canucks face a heightened level of scrutiny. Todd Bertuzzi's contract negotiation drags into the regular season and becomes a tenuous issue internally. Vancouver and Colorado reestablish themselves as elite teams in the Western Conference, and each looks to gain the upper hand in three head-to-head matchups beginning in mid-February. Steve Moore's hit on Markus Naslund becomes a point of contention and eventually leads to an act of revenge that transcends both the rivalry and the sport itself. With Bertuzzi suspended for the rest of the season and beyond, the Canucks attempt to pull themselves together for their most important games of the campaign. Determined to atone for their playoff shortcomings, the Canucks emerge as one of the league's top teams and the West Coast Express as the NHL's most dominant line. The Canucks become a hot ticket around the league, and the media spotlight intensifies on Markus Naslund, Todd Bertuzzi and Brendan Morrison. Coming off their return to the playoffs, the Canucks struggle to live up to expectations early in the season after Todd Bertuzzi's suspension and an injury to Andrew Cassels hinder their top line. GM Brian Burke is celebrated for bringing Trevor Linden back to Vancouver via trade, but it's Burke's speech in late December that finally kickstarts the Canucks turnaround. In mid-January, Brendan Morrison is inserted between Markus Naslund and Bertuzzi on the first line, and the trio quickly emerges as a dominant force dubbed "The West Coast Express". Vancouver charges into the playoffs as the league's hottest team and is on track to upset top-seeded Detroit before a lucky goal becomes the catalyst for the Red Wings' comeback. Brian Burke is hired as general manager of the Canucks, which immediately puts head coach Mike Keenan on notice and the roster on high alert. Superstar Pavel Bure refuses to play after demanding a trade, saddling Burke with his first big decision. Early injuries to key players hamper Vancouver's chances at a bounce back season, and tensions rise between Burke and Keenan. Markus Naslund turns an opportunity for more playing time into a breakout season that sees him become an NHL All Star. Bure is finally traded and Burke replaces Keenan behind the bench with Marc Crawford, who begins to assess which players he plans to build around. “UNREEL: West Coast Express” is the story of the men who reinvigorated a once vibrant hockey market as told by Markus Naslund, Todd Bertuzzi, Brendan Morrison as well as other prominent teammates and figures. Written and narrated by Scott Rintoul, it is a journey from some of the darkest days in franchise history to the precipice of greatness along a path of unforgettable triumphs and defeats. Four years after nearly winning the Stanley Cup, the Vancouver Canucks were engulfed in chaos. Amidst a change in ownership, constant organizational churn and a four-year playoff drought, three unlikely stars emerged from the rubble to resuscitate the franchise. Despite none of them being drafted by the Canucks, Naslund, Bertuzzi and Morrison came to form one of hockey's most dominant lines, the West Coast Express. A nightly fixture on highlight reels, the West Coast Express turned Vancouver back into a contender, and they appeared destined for a run at the Stanley Cup before it all came undone in a matter of moments. Hello Hockey Fans! In Episode 4 of Puck Buddies Hockey Podcast we chat with Vancouver Canucks alumnus Dennis Kearns, the Quinn Hughes of the 1970s. The veteran of 677 NHL games finished his career with 321pts, a team record for a Canucks defender at the time. His record has since been tied by Jyrki Lumme and it has been surpassed by only Matthias Ohlund (325pts) & Alexander Elder (389pts & counting). In 1976-77 Mr. Kearns scored 60pts to set a single season team record for points by a defenseman, which stood until the 1986-87 season when it was broken by Doug Lidster. Perhaps most impressively, his 55 assists during the 1976-77 season is a total that has been surpassed by only six other Canucks in franchise history. Andre Boudrias, Thomas Gradin, Cliff Ronning, Markus Naslund and Daniel & Henrik Sedin. Illustrious company for the diminutive defensman. Check it out & be sure to subscribe!

This week in anguish: - Tristan was in attendance for the HockeyTalks game against the Coyotoes. We look back at notable Canucks mental health advocates, and see how much things have changed from the Corey Hirsch to the Tyler Motte era.  - Ardella has thoughts on shots, salaries, and sobriquets in an all-new, one-time segment called...Shots, Salaries, and Sobriquets. Tristan fails to come up with an Örnsköldsvik-based nickname. - The Canucks Time Machine reveals that Tom Kurvers was unhappy in 1991 (and 1992, and 1993, and...), that Markus Naslund was beginning a remarkable run of dominance in 2001, and that we were looking to our farmhand saviour Sergei Shirokov (!?) in 2011.    Thanks for listening! This week in anguish: - Is not actually just a 65 minute verbal description of Tristan's jersey design. But we certainly do talk about it. Look at it! It's so beautiful.  - Jacob Markstrom's stellar game against Carolina has us thinking about the history of Canucks goalie coaches. It is both shallower and more murky than we expected. - We offer about two dozen rapid-fire yet eminently reasonable fixes to Canucks' game presentation. Greatest hits include #floattheblimp, #colourinthering, #ditchtheanthems, and other less hashtaggable suggestions. - The Time Machine brings us back to the brink of Eric Lindros ownership in 1990, to a fourth line consisting of only one actual forward in 2000, to Markus Naslund's much-needed last hurrah in 2010.  - How Did We Not Know about the Viking Award?
