Hockey Hall of Famer Mike Modano joins Nick Alberga & Jay Rosehill for a can't-miss conversation following Team USA's gold medal triumph over Canada at the Milan Games.Modano reflects on the emotion of watching the Americans capture gold, what the victory means south of the border, and the pride — and pressure — that comes with representing your country at the Olympic Games as an NHL player. He takes listeners inside that unique experience and explains why moments like this can define careers. The conversation naturally turns to Auston Matthews, who captained Team USA to gold. Modano weighs in on Matthews' leadership and performance in Milan, and whether this championship moment shifts the narrative around the Leafs captain's legacy. A few weeks removed from his headline-making appearance on OverDrive, Modano also clarifies his comments about the intense scrutiny that comes with playing in Toronto. He explains what he meant, why the market is so demanding, and why he believes Matthews can use this Olympic win as a springboard for even bigger things — provided he gets more support around him with the Toronto Maple Leafs. To wrap, Modano shares his thoughts on Toronto's playoff outlook and what it will take for the Leafs to translate star power into postseason success.#LeafsForever #LeafsMorningTake

We start the show with some insane comebacks in last night's NHL slate. The Carolina Hurricanes scored 3 goals in the final two minutes against Utah to win 5-4 in regulation. The Edmonton Oilers also had a massive comeback overcoming a 3-0 deficit in the third to beat San Jose 4-3 in overtime.Macklin Celebrini waved off the referee on a high-sticking penalty he drew in the second period of their game. The penalty wasn't overturned but Gregs and Rupper think this gave him a lot of credibility around the league. Edmonton's win marks the first three-game win streak this season. Crazy to think they're tied with Vegas on points atop the Pacific with no major win streaks. The guys look at all the loser points from games that go to overtime and some rules that could help the overtime, so more games don't go all the way to a shootout. Janaury has set the NHL record for the most hat tricks in a month in NHL history. Alex Tuch had a hat trick last night for the Buffalo Sabres as Alex Lyon picked up his 10th straight win for the streaking Sabres as they beat LA 4-1. What could the Sabres do at the trade deadline?Gregor and Rupp both think the Toronto Maple Leafs playoff hopes are DONE. What's next for the Maple Leafs? The Florida Panthers are another team that made the playoffs last year that are still looking on from the outside. Aleksander Barkov isn't back yet and Sergei Bobrovsky has been struggling. Are the two-time defending champs in danger of missing the playoffs? The Colorado Avalanche are in a rut right now and with plenty of players going to the Olympics and a condensed schedule after the break. Gregor thinks the Avs need some more size on their backend and Rupper looks at their lack of powerplay success.Florida and Colorado both have multiple players going to the Olympics but very condensed schedules after the break. Are the Panthers schedule concerns a dagger to their playoff chances?Patrick Kane broke Mike Modano's record for the most points by an American-born player. Gregor and Rupp rip on the American-born versus American points leader records.Pat joins the show for another edition of Fillin the Blank:_____ is the most likely to beat the Colorado Avalanche to win the Western Conference_____ could usurp Nathan MacKinnon for the RocketAt -500 to make the playoffs and +350 to not make it, the Buffalo Sabres ______ the playoffsBuffalo, Detroit, Montreal, and Anaheim highlight some fanbases the guys think would be electric atmospheres for home playoff series with their droughts. You can get involved with all the NHL futures action over on bet365 by using the promo code NATION at bet365.comConnect with us on ⬇️TwitterInstagramWebsiteDaily Faceoff Merch Hosted on Acast. We start the show with some history in Detroit where Patrick Kane became the leading point getter of all American-born NHLers surpassing Mike Modano. Are there any active players that could challenge the mark?Last night had plenty of dramatic comeback wins with the Carolina Hurricanes and Edmonton Oilers highlighting them. Carolina scored three goals in the last two minutes to beat Utah 5-4 in regulation. The Edmonton Oilers stormed back from 3-0 down in the third and took a 4-3 overtime victory against the San Jose Sharks. It was the Alex show in Buffalo last night with Alex Tuch getting a hat trick and Alex Lyon getting 37 saves in a 4-1 victory. Lyon has now won his last ten appearances for the Sabres. Are we about to see the Sabres break their playoff drought?John Matisz from The Score talks with the guys about a recent article he wrote about the fall of Canadian goaltending development.SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!

Mike Modano is in studio with the gang talking about his career, his World Juniors experience and he sticks around to play The Initials Game
Every Friday around 8:15-8:20 a.m. on KFAN 100.3 the Power Trip Morning show plays the Initials Game. The game involves 12 items people, place, things, phrases or anything as long as they share the same initials. All 12 items share the same initials. The contestants do not know the initials until they are revealed shortly before the game starts. Each item has 6 clues. As soon as the contestants know who or what the host is describing, they yell out their name. Their name is their buzzer. If the contestant gets it right, they get a point. If they get it wrong they are out for just that item. The item does have to be pronounced correctly. It is best out of 12 with tiebreakers if needed. Tiebreaker items have 3 clues.#InitialsGame #ThePowerTrip #KFAN1003FOLLOW The Power Trip on Social Media:► Like the show on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/PowerTripKFAN► Follow the show on Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/PowerTripKFAN► Follow the show on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/PowerTripKFAN► Follow Cory Cove on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/CoryCove► Follow Chris Hawkey on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/Chris_Hawkey► Follow Meatsauce on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/Meatsauce1► Follow Mark Parrish on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/MarkDParrish► Follow Marney Gellner on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/MarneyGellner► Follow Aj Mansour on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/AjKFAN► Follow Zach Halverson on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/ZachHalverson
