Tom Brady retires from the NFL with a one minute statement on social media. Hockey great Bobby Hull passes away. Neither of us has any defence for the things Hull did and said off the ice but we're not thrilled with speaking ill of the dead either. Sean Payton was hired as Broncos head coach. A new month delivers a new podcast with quite a bit to sink our teeth into when it comes to sports. On deck: (2:43) The time has finally come! Legendary quarterback Tom Brady has announced his retirement first ballot Hall of Famer and also make a comparison to another giant in his sport (i.e. LeBron James) as to the impact they've had on the sports landscape over the first quarter of the 21st century. I'll get into the new head coaches in Houston (i.e. DeMeco Ryans) and Denver (i.e. Sean Payton) Is there any hope that Russell Wilson will turn his career around with the former Super Bowl winning head coach? A new offensive coordinator in LA with the Chargers (i.e. Kellen Moore) The diagnosis of 49ers QB, Brock Purdy's right elbow and how it affects their 2023 season. (27:28) Mavericks guard, Luka Doncic returns with a 53 point game after spraining his ankle the week before in Phoenix. The West looks like it's going to be a battle royale from the fifth seed down as eight teams are separated by 3.5 games. While the East is top heavy with teams like Boston, Milwaukee, Philadelphia and Brooklyn leading the pack. (31:17) March Madness in college basketball is six weeks from today. The question I've been keeping you all in suspense over the past week. Do you like the way this season is unfolding to where it's wide open for a tournament winner? Or would you rather have the North Carolina's , Duke's & Kentucky teams always patrolling to the top of the rankings and have just a handful of teams be the favorite to win it all? I'll belatedly discuss the passing of former analyst, Billy Packer, who died of kidney failure last week. (41:27) As the NHL hits the All-Star Break down in South Florida, the Islanders made a big move a month before the trade deadline, acquiring Canucks forward Bo Horvat. Could this be the shot in the arm that they need to get back to the postseason? Will they be able to re-sign him? The sport has lost another all-time great as Bobby Hull passed away on Monday at the age of 84. I'll review what took place over the 'first half' of the season to date, the biggest surprise and disappointment so far and will set you up for a 'second half' preview once the weekend is complete. The first half of the NHL season is officially over as the Philadelphia Flyers are headed into the All-Star Break. It is safe to say that the Flyers are in a much better position for the Playoffs than most people thought heading into the season. They are sitting at 21-21-9 which is good for 7th in the Metro Division and 6 points out of the second Wild Card spot held by the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Flyers will pick back up on February 6th in a big match-up against the New York Islanders. The Hockey World lost a great player the other with the loss of Bobby Hull. Father to Brett Hull, Bobby played 23 years in the NHL with the Chicago Blackhawks, Winnipeg Jets, and Hartford Whalers. He was nicknamed "The Golden Jet" for his skating ability, end-to-end speed, and heavy shot. Hull had a monster career as a professional hockey player and the Hockey Community will miss him. Join Matt, Rob, and Brad tonight at 8:30 PM for a brand new Hockey Happy Hour as they discuss all this and more including News from Around the League and the always fun Shootout segment.

Countdown with Keith Olbermann
EPISODE 123: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:42) SPECIAL COMMENT: "You have a lot of folks who are just waiting for his mortal demise," says former Michigan Republican Congressman Peter Meijer. "I've heard from a lot of people who will go onstage and put on the red hat and then give me a call the next day and say 'I can't wait until this guy dies.'" It's an amazing strategy but a passive one. And it ignores the various walls closing in on Trump: two District Attorneys, three Grand Juries, one Judiciary Chairman annoyed at John Durham and William Barr, one Judiciary Chairman rebuffed by Merrick Garland, one porn star, and one guy named Pecker. Still, potentially the most extraordinary story about Trump: the clouds gathering around the arrest of Charlie McGonigal, who was a 24/7, 365 days a year, hot and cold running blackmail-victim-FBI-Agent-waiting-to-happen. And now two analysts look at his arrest and suggest: this may evolve into a) a spy scandal in which the national security was utterly breached and b) a journalistic disaster in which Trump, Russia, and the FBI managed to manipulate The New York Times into pushing Trump across the finish line in 2016. B-Block (18:53) EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY: Memphis, in Texas (20:06) IN SPORTS: The passing of hockey's Bobby Hull and Cleveland's John Adams; Why was the 52nd best player in baseball chosen to adorn the cover of its top video game? And happy 206th birthday, J. Shorthouse, Esq. (24:07) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: More George Santos stupidity, a Florida Climate Caucus Congresswoman who owns up to $195k in oil stocks, and Megyn Kelly slams Jill Biden for something her own father did. C-Block (29:56) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: CNN has gone and done it: addressing its cratering ratings by adding a regular Friday segment from Bill Maher's HBO panel. Time again to go back to 2009 when Bill and I nearly brawled at his HBO after-party because he insisted we never met in college (spoiler alert: Oh yeah we did).See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
