In today's episode, we're diving into the evolving world of finance operations and the growing strategic importance of Accounts Payable in the Office of the CFO.I'm joined by Paul Kearns, CEO of Irish software company Kefron, which has more than 30 years' experience helping organisations manage and protect critical business information. Paul leads the development of Kefron AP, an accounts payable automation solution designed to bring greater accuracy, control and visibility to invoice processing – helping finance teams work smarter, not harder. We explore how the role of Accounts Payable is shifting from a back-office function to a strategic enabler of business insight, and what that means for finance leaders today. Paul shares his perspective on the impact of AI - whether it will replace roles or redefine them – and how organisations can scale their AP operations without adding headcount. We also discuss how automation can deliver fast, low-risk gains in productivity, improve data accuracy, and strengthen audit readiness at a time when invoice volumes and compliance demands are only increasing. If you're a CFO, finance leader, or part of a team looking to modernise your AP processes, this is a conversation packed with practical insight.Visit www.thinkbusiness.ie for more news and supports for start-ups and SMEs in Ireland. As beauty trends have evolved, it's become more and more necessary to use a mirror when getting ready for the day. But for teens at Kearns High School in the Granite School District, they may need to make some changes to their daily grooming routines now that the school has removed mirrors from all the restrooms on campus. The school says removing the mirrors will help cut down on loitering. The hosts share their thoughts on the development and read listener text messages on the topic too.
What do you think of when you see Mount Rainier? Some of us think, "Oh wow, I can see Mount Rainier. Must be really clear out today. Pretty." Some people, though, look at its snow-capped peaks and see a challenge, a life goal -- something they may climb one day, braving cold and oxygen deprivation. To able to say they've done it. And then there is Simon Kearns, who looks at Mount Rainier as something to absolutely dominate. That's what he did in early May, when he set a new speed record for climbing Washington state’s tallest peak on foot. He traveled the nearly 9,000 vertical feet to the summit and back in three hours, 43 minutes and 52 seconds. Kearns joined Soundside to talk about what it was like shattering the previous record by more than half an hour. Guest: Simon Kearns, a mountain guide at RMI Expeditions. Send us Fan MailMount Rainier is not the place where you get to switch your brain off and “just suffer.” The route moves, the glacier breathes, and a boot pack that looked safe two days ago can point straight at a crevasse. That's why Simon Kearns' new Mount Rainier round trip on-foot FKT, 3:43:50 car to car, stopped us in our tracks. Simon is an RMI Expeditions mountain guide and a rising name in mountain running and skyrunning, with speed records that include Mount Hood and a recent fastest time on Mailbox Peak. We talk through the real story behind the Rainier effort: a last-minute pivot away from a ski record attempt after snapping a race ski, the advantage and responsibility that comes with doing route work on the mountain, and how he stays sharp when the terrain demands both speed and precision. If you've ever wondered what “dialing a route” means on snow and ice, this conversation makes it concrete. We also get into how he trains around guiding logistics, why he works with Jackson Cole as a coach, and how he thinks about the balance between lonely FKT projects and the energy of racing. Along the way we swap notes on the Pacific Northwest volcano scene, European skyrunning culture in Chamonix, and what it looks like to pursue the AMGA and IFMGA guiding path while still chasing big athletic goals. If you like FKTs, alpine running, mountaineering strategy, and honest talk about risk, training, and motivation, hit play. Joe Kearns is a Christchurch born and bred singer-songwriter who's been plying his trade in Chch and trying to get his unique poppy songs heard. Formerly a student of the University of Canterbury's School of Music where he has an honours degree majoring in composition, he's just released his 14th single full of his usual pop/psychedelic sensibilities with intelligent and interesting lyrics.'Forever Sun' is a personal song written about his mother as she was dying in late 2025 (very recent!). While there is sadness in the song, there's also celebration. Joe didn't want to write a dirge full of remorse, rather to help put some perspective on her passing and tell the world how he felt.

On today's podcast I chat once again with Paul Kearns, urban planner, author and journalist who has been living in Tel Aviv with his young family for the last 8 years. Paul has been bringing us the truth from within Israel throughout the Gaza war, including the story of censorship by the media there and the presentation of the genocide in a very sanitised way to the people of Israel. In bravely doing so, Paul has in many cases alienated himself from friends and family but his honesty has been much appreciated and his writing has been very welcome by Irish media. He is now increasingly concerned by some political rhetoric and what he is hearing from the Jewish community in Ireland. He believes that the horrors we have witnessed in Gaza has resulted in visceral antisemitism, which could be a real threat to this community and his own family should he ever decide to visit or even return to Ireland to live. When he wrote about this topic, the media outlets who were happy to take his earlier articles did not want to know. We spoke about this version of censorship, antisemitism, holocaust deniers, conspiracy theories and how a country can start to rebuild its reputation, which is in tatters. In this episode of Driven By Details, I sit down with Tim Kearns to talk about career change, long-term growth, and the transferable skills that matter more than job titles.Tim spent nearly 24 years in the automotive industry, starting as a service advisor in the mid-1990s and eventually working his way up to service manager. Along the way, he built deep relationships, managed constant pressure, and learned firsthand what it takes to serve customers in high-stress environments.Eventually, Tim reached a turning point. After decades in the dealership world, he made the decision to step away and pursue a new path—ultimately finding his way into the insurance industry. Today, he runs successful insurance offices and credits much of that success to the customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills he developed in automotive. We talk about:Starting out in the service drive and climbing the dealership ladderThe realities of long hours and pressure in automotive managementWhat pushed Tim to finally make a career changeHow customer service skills translate across industriesWhy patience, trust, and communication matter in any professionThis conversation is a great listen for anyone thinking about a career pivot, building long-term professional relationships, or navigating change with intention.
Sean Kearns isn't just part of snowboard history, he helped build it. From the Whiskey films that defined an era, to shaping the culture behind the scenes as a filmmaker, producer, and entrepreneur, Sean Kearns has been quietly steering snowboarding's direction for decades. His film legacy runs deep: Whiskey 1-4, 20/20, Technical Difficulties, to the Forum movies; The Resistance, True Life, Nixon Jib Fest, Shakedown, Chulksmack, That, etc. Skateboarder. Snowboarder. Filmmaker. If you rode in the 90s, wore out VHS tapes or care about how this culture actually came together this conversation hits deep. And yes, there were some serious leasons learnt along the way. This one's special. Thank you Sean. Our Kind of Chaos is an unreleased documentary you'll want to keep your eyes peeled for, it's currently making the rounds at film festivals. An incredible, raw and very eye-opening film. Huge respect to Clay Larson, Ryan Stutt and the entire team for bringing this one to life. Enjoy the show. In this episode of On the Road with Paul Ward, Paul visits the remote desert outpost of Goat Mountain Recording, home to musicians and audio engineers Pat and Susan Kearns. Nestled on five acres in Landers near Joshua Tree, the Kearns family has created a purpose-built recording studio unlike anything else in Southern California — complete with zero 90-degree corners, custom architectural design, and a quiet desert backdrop that shapes their sound. Pat and Susan share how they built this dream studio from the ground up, how gentrification pushed them out of Portland, and how they transformed their move to the desert into a thriving creative hub. From recording and mixing to mastering and audio restoration, Pat's decades of experience merge with Susan's artistry, musicianship, painting, and their shared love of “Western Folk,” the unique genre they've coined to describe their sound. We dive into their latest album Together and Alone, their songwriting process (including how melodies often “bubble up from the subconscious”), the stories behind standout tracks like “Charlie,” and the inspiration they draw from the desert's solitude, landscapes, and creative community. Pat also reveals what it's like hosting the Z107.7 Local Music Showcase, highlighting and connecting musicians across Joshua Tree, Yucca Valley, Wonder Valley, and beyond. And Susan gives us a peek into her visual art practice, including her participation in the annual Highway 62 Open Studio Art Tours, her expressionist desert pieces, and the lively fusion of art and music that happens when musicians join her shows. Whether you love music creation, desert culture, or behind-the-scenes creative life, this episode paints a vibrant picture of two artists building something extraordinary together. On today's podcast I chat once again with Paul Kearns, urban planner, author and journalist who has been living in Tel Aviv with his young family for the last 8 years. Paul brings us his insights from inside Israel since the Trump brokered cease fire - were there celebrations, who is credited with the ceasefire, what is the general mood like, what is the current standing of Netanyahu and what will happen with his corruption trial? He spoke about the trauma of this war for those in Israel, for those in Gaza and the West Bank, and how he tries his very best to explain the war to his very curious 9 year old girl. This was a difficult conversation, and in all honesty it is impossible to see a peaceful path forward, but yet, life goes on for everyone who will have to do their best to recover from the psychological trauma of this utterly pointless war. This world of ours has to do a better job in making sure this does not happen again. Just a day after our conversation Gaza was attacked again and over 100 people were murdered. "It's a feeling, not a fact.""I help people transform their self-worth to live radically fulfilling lives based on audacity rather than perfectionism."These are tidbits of the wisdom shared in this episode by Samantha Kearns. The episode is formatted a little differently to capture the excitement right out to the gate in my time with her. I first was introduced to Sam through her TikTok videos, and what caught my attention was her talking about AUDACITY and DELUSION as gifts and tools-- and I've been a follower ever since. I could have talked to her for days and days, and I am so excited to bring you this episode. ABOUT THE FOUNDERAfter close to 20 years in corporate America, planning large-scale events and helpingC-suite executives and celebrity spokespersons achieve the unthinkable, Samantha Kearns is applying the same principles of big-picture thinking, audacity, and “sky's the limit" philosophy to her neuroscience-backed coaching program to help people achieve their dreams. She helps others live a life based on radical audacity and authenticity, rather than perfectionism. https://www.internalevolution.lifehttps://www.tiktok.com/@samanthakearnscoaching

If there's one thing that scam hunter Julie-Anne Kearns wants everyone to know, it is that no one is immune from a scam. And she would know—she fell for one last year. For years now, Kearns has made a name for herself on TikTok as a scam awareness and education expert. Popular under the name @staysafewithmjules, Kearns makes videos about scam identification and defense. She has posted countless profile pictures that are used and repeated by online scammers across different accounts. She has flagged active scam accounts on Instagram and detailed their strategies. And, perhaps most importantly, she answers people's questions. In fielding everyday comments and concerns from her followers and from strangers online, Kearns serves as a sort of gut-check for the internet at large. And by doing it day in, day out, Kearns is able to hone her scam “radar,” which helps guide people to safety. But last year, Kearns fell for a scam, disguised initially as a letter from HM Revenue & Customs, or HMRC, the tax authority for the United Kingdom.Today, on the Lock and Code podcast with host David Ruiz, we speak with Kearns about the scam she fell for and what she's lost, the worldwide problem of victim blaming, and the biggest warning signs she sees for a variety of scams online.“A lot of the time you think that it's somebody who's silly—who's just messing about. It's not. Click here to share your favorite car, car story or any automotive trivia!Join To All the Cars I've Loved Before as Timothy Kearns—architect, racer, and son of Dr. Robert Kearns, the genius behind the intermittent windshield wiper—revisits the 1963 “blink” moment that revolutionized driving safety and sparked a David-vs-Goliath patent battle with Ford later dramatized in the 2009 movie Flash of Genius starring Greg Kinnear. From Detroit's storied Woodward Avenue to Maryland's Eastern Shore, Tim reveals how a wedding-night eye injury inspired a pioneering transistor circuit, why all six Kearns siblings left their careers to fight for inventor rights, and how their victory reshaped U.S. patent law for future innovators. Along the ride we dive into his gas-guzzling 1971 Mustang Mach 1 during the oil crisis, his modern Porsche racing obsession, and the design parallels between classic-car preservation and award-winning architecture. #560 One Ball and Boe - Richard is sad to note the death of a man who has fuelled and spoiled his erotic fantasies. His guest John Kearns, has finally been allowed into the Leicester Square Theatre on the fifth or sixth time on the pod - it's the thoughtful and measured John Kearns. In a return to endless old-school RHLSTPs it's a sprawling pod, covering very old tortoises, Raymond Briggs, Rich's dad giving a talk at the BFI, the effects of the Taskmaster bounce (or plunge in Rich's case), rumours about Top Coppers and much more. Co-author of 'Born to Walk' with Mark Sisson, he argues that rigorous activities can harm aging bodies, leading to injuries. Kearns highlights the benefits of Zone One cardiovascular efforts, strength training, and the evolutionary reasons for endorphin rushes. Dr. Mindy also stresses the need for aging individuals, particularly women, to embrace activities that align with their changing bodies instead of pursuing intense, potentially harmful fitness goals. The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode: 3:05pm- According to reports, The Atlantic's editor in chief Jeffrey Goldberg was inadvertently added to a Signal group chat with Trump Administration officials discussing planned military strikes against Houthi fighters in Yemen. Spokesman for the White House National Security Council Brian Hughes said the messages Goldberg received appear to be “authentic.” In Goldberg's report, he noted that National Security Advisor Michael Waltz was responsible for the mistake and that he may have also violated a federal records law—as Waltz set some of the messages exchanged on Signal to auto-delete after one week. While speaking with the press from the White House on Tuesday, President Donald Trump defended Waltz and suggested he doubts his cabinet officials will rely on Signal for group discussions moving forward. 3:30pm- A recent Axios report notes that Democrats have their lowest favorability rating in the history of CNN polling, they have a bad 2026 Senate electoral map, and following the census in 2030—because residents of blue states are moving to red states in large numbers—Democrats will face an uphill battle in the electoral college in 2032. For example, California and New York are expected to lose a total of six House seats and, subsequently, six electoral votes. Rich notes he's not sure how the Democrat Party can turn things around—as they continue to embrace unpopular policies despite the results of the 2024 election. 4:05pm- On Tuesday, President Donald Trump signed a Presidential Memorandum requiring the immediate declassification of all information related to the Crossfire Hurricane investigation. Crossfire Hurricane was a 2016 FBI-led counterintelligence investigation attempting to link the Trump presidential campaign to the Russian government. The claims were erroneous and politically motivated. While speaking with the press, President Trump also said he would love to halt federal funding to NPR and PBS. 4:30pm- Linda Kerns—Attorney & Pennsylvania Election Integrity Counsel for the Republican National Committee and Donald Trump—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss her new article for The Federalist, “Voter ID Alone Won't Make Pennsylvania's Elections Trustworthy.” PLUS, she gets Matt a birthday present! During last week's 1210 WPHT Radiothon to benefit the Travis Manion Foundation, Kearns donated money in exchange for a promise that Rich will be nice to Matt for a full week! Is it even possible? Probably not. 4:50pm- Yesterday, Matt and Justin needed to use the dump button on Rich…is it about to happen again? 5:05pm- The far-left continues to vandalize Tesla electric vehicles out of disdain for the auto manufacturer's CEO Elon Musk—who heads the Trump Administration's Department of Government Efficiency. 5:15pm- According to reports, The Atlantic's editor in chief Jeffrey Goldberg was inadvertently added to a Signal group chat with Trump Administration officials discussing planned military strikes against Houthi fighters in Yemen. Abbott has used a wheelchair since an accident in 1984. 5:25pm- On Monday, President Donald Trump announced Alina Habba will serve as New Jersey's interim U.S. Attorney.
