Today we have a really great episode where we go behind the scenes with two incredible chefs, Sara Kramer and Sarah Thompson. Sara Kramer is co-chef and co-owner of Kismet in Los Angeles, a restaurant that blends Mediterranean and Californian sensibilities flawlessly. Kismet has been a go-to for LA diners for nearly a decade, and we talk about the restaurant's Resy Standby status. Sarah Thompson is the chef at Casa Playa in Las Vegas, a gem of a coastal Mexican restaurant that really impressed me on a recent visit. We talk about Sarah's work at Cosme in New York that eventually led her to Las Vegas. What's it like cooking in such a high-octane environment? We find out. When Olivia Steele broke her silence about what really happened to her at Burning Man, it shook the community. Her viral, polarizing post called out what she described as a psychic break—not a bad trip, not burnout, but an energetic hijacking. The reactions were swift: some dismissed her, others attacked her… and many quietly messaged her: “I've felt this too.”This is the first time Olivia shares the full story—raw, real, and without algorithmic filter. In this exclusive, soul-baring conversation with Jeff Scult, Olivia unpacks the hidden side of transformational spaces: the portals we open, the protection we neglect, and the price we pay for chasing peak experience without energetic hygiene. What began as a warning became a reckoning. A reckoning became a rebirth.
Content Warning: This episode discusses death, assault, and systemic failure. In the third and final installment of this Yachting USA series, host Rick Thomas continues his conversation in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, with Elle Fisher — Author & Advocate. Elle shares the story of her friend Jess, a South African yacht chef whose death in Ibiza was silenced under powerful ownership and management interests. From the suppression of evidence and firing of crew to the lack of repatriation and investigation, Elle exposes the culture of silence that still exists in parts of the yachting world. She also opens up about her own decision to leave the industry she loves — and the desperate need for an independent, confidential crew support hotline free from management, owners, and agencies. Elle shares: ✅ The death of her friend Jess in Ibiza and the unanswered questions that remain ✅ How powerful figures silenced a crime scene and replaced an entire crew overnight ✅ Why NDAs, fear, and control keep victims and witnesses quiet ✅ The emotional aftermath — grief, trauma, and burnout ✅ Why she believes yachting still needs an independent crew protection system ✅ A call to entrepreneurs and leaders to step up and build what's missing For PART ONE: https://youtu.be/f49HePKUPP4 For PART TWO: https://youtu.be/Jlfizu_2_VU

Content Warning: This episode discusses domestic violence and sexual harassment. What happens when a crewmember says “no” and the industry looks away? In the second of a three-part Yachting USA series, host Rick Thomas continues his conversation in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, with Elle Fisher — Author & Advocate. Elle recounts a violent assault in Fort Lauderdale, the system's failure to protect crew, and a later incident aboard another yacht that tested her resolve to stay in the industry she loves. From restraining orders and DPAs to NDAs, background checks, and psychological screening, Elle calls for practical reforms that could make yachting safer—without slowing operations. She also shares the career highs that kept her onboard: leading a major refit, orchestrating an iconic Yacht Hop, and delivering 17 back-to-back charters. Elle shares: ✅ The Fort Lauderdale assault, hospital visit, and a successful restraining order ✅ Why threats, confiscated phones, and isolation keep victims silent ✅ How NDAs and DPA structures can leave crew unprotected ✅ Why quick-turn hiring undermines meaningful background checks ✅ A workable alternative: mandatory psychological screening for safety-critical roles ✅ Returning to yachting: interior manager/purser, nine-month refit, and what she learned ✅ The Antigua Yacht Hop that booked 17 consecutive charters—and the burnout that followed ✅ A later cabin-intrusion incident by a head chef, and why “the trash took itself out” still isn't justice ✅ Reflections triggered by the murder of Paige Bell and why speaking up matters now For PART ONE: https://youtu.be/f49HePKUPP4

Nestled along Mexico's Pacific coast, David Leventhal's Playa Viva is redefining hospitality through a radical commitment to regenerative design. More than just a boutique hotel, it's a living ecosystem where architecture breathes, nature flows freely, and every material tells a story of sustainability.Imagine waking in a treehouse suspended among palm trees, with no doors or windows—just an uninterrupted connection to the landscape. This is Leventhal's vision: hospitality that doesn't just minimize environmental impact, but actively regenerates it.The resort's structures are poetry in natural materials. Bamboo "bones" form parabolic roofs, carefully woven and raised by hand. Shower floors become canvases of meticulously placed pebbles, each stone positioned with artisan precision. Wall pigments are sourced locally—rich oranges and browns extracted directly from mountain landscapes, mixed with unconventional ingredients like hay, horse manure, and even turtle eggshells."We're not just building rooms," Leventhal explains, "we're creating experiences that transform how humans interact with environment."This transformation begins with radical design choices. Solar panels provide 100% off-grid electricity. Air conditioning is minimised, with innovative systems like the "Evening Breeze" technology cooling only specific areas. The goal isn't comfort through separation, but comfort through connection. The resort sits on 200 acres of regenerating landscape, including a critical turtle sanctuary. Local community members—many former poachers—now protect endangered turtle species, releasing hatchlings at dawn under careful supervision. The broader ReSiMar project demonstrates Leventhal's systemic approach to ecological restoration. Starting from mountain headwaters and extending to the coastline, this watershed regeneration initiative has already documented remarkable recoveries, including recent jaguar sightings in the Sierra Madre Mountains. What makes Playa Viva revolutionary isn't just its sustainable infrastructure, but its philosophical approach. Each design decision emerges from deep respect for place—understanding geological, anthropological, and ecological histories before a single structure is built.Guests aren't passive observers but active participants in this regenerative narrative. Yoga retreats, farm experiences, and community engagement transform vacationing from consumption to connection. The resort's B-Corp certification and recent Michelin keys underscore its commitment to excellence through ecological integrity.Leventhal's background in media and technology might seem an unlikely pathway to ecological design. Yet his journey reveals how personal transformation drives systemic change. "Change happens little by little," he reflects, "until it happens all at once."This philosophy permeates every aspect of Playa Viva. The manta ray-inspired treehouses, the infinity casita with its locally sourced manufactured wood, the organic farm—each element represents a deliberate choice to work with, not against, natural systems. For travellers seeking more than a temporary escape, Playa Viva offers a glimpse of possible futures. Here, luxury isn't about isolation and excess, but about deep, meaningful engagement with living landscapes. As climate challenges intensify, Leventhal's model provides a compelling blueprint. Regenerative design isn't a luxury—it's a necessity. By reimagining hospitality as a collaborative dance with ecological systems, Playa Viva demonstrates that sustainable travel can be both profoundly beautiful and transformative. The resort whispers an essential truth: humans aren't separate from nature, but integral participants in complex, interconnected living systems. And in that understanding lies our most profound opportunity for healing—one treehouse, one turtle, one thoughtfully placed pebble at a time.https://www.playaviva.comhttps://oceanfdn.org/projects/la-tortuga-viva/Have a listen to the podcast we did with Louis Thompson, partner of Nomadic Resorts mentioned by David. Here at D&SD Over the Summer on Wednesdays we will be releasing some of our cool side campaign episodes! This series is called “The Playa Rose” is a western campaign DM'd by our Very own Andrew Kornblatt. Serpentine Visions and Restless Sleep After collecting their thoughts and taking shelter for the night, the party experiences a disturbing development. During the deep hours before dawn, Marshal and Morgan are afflicted by strange, unsettling dreams that leave them with restless, broken sleep. Both of their unique nightmares end with the same terrifying image: a snake-like figure with piercing yellow eyes. The next morning finds them gathered around a table in Mona's saloon, sharing their troubling visions and debating their next course of action. The dreams seem connected to their investigation, suggesting supernatural forces are taking an active interest in their activities. They must decide whether to seek out the mysterious "table witch" mentioned by the gravedigger, investigate the Dragonborn tribe that Floyd had been studying, or pursue another lead entirely. From Floyd's journals, Morgan and Consuela learn more about his relationship with the local Dragonborn tribe and his growing concerns about Laurentine's mining operations. The scientist's notes reveal his frustration with the Dragonborn's initial coldness and distrust, their treatment by eastern settlers, and his gradual friendship with a tribal member named Krish. That's the end of our Playa Rose Summer Release. Want to hear the rest? We are joined again this week by Steve Matthews from Exposing the Cults to take another look into the world of Burning Man and Transformational Festivals. Our guest has attended Burning Man and has studied, written on, and has spoken about this growing phenomenon for several years now, and brings us years of his thinking and analysis on this subject in this episode. Matthews likes to point out that, "Young people today are not rushing out and joing groups like the Jehovah's Witnesses these days. Instead, they are pursuing other spiritual paths like Burning Man and other similar Transformational Festivals. Everything is changing now to new forms of spirituality in our culture." In this episode we delve into the hard to explain nature of these festivals and describes what goes on at them, as well as uncover the true history of Burning Man and then give a critical response to the emerging Pagan worldview behind Transformational Festival culture. You can order his full-length joural article from the Spiritual Counterfeits Project here at - https://scp-inc.org/product/the-burning-truth/ You can also follow episodes on the Exposing the Cults YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/@ExposingtheCults
Ned Heads! In this episode we dive headfirst into a nostalgic and thought-provoking journey through convention culture, wild festival adventures, and the life lessons found in unexpected places — including the dust-filled wonderland of Burning Man. From the hilarity of memorabilia hoarding and late-night ice cream escapades to deep reflections on aging, grief, and personal growth, we explore the symbolic rituals of Burning Man, the power of community, and how discomfort often leads to the most meaningful transformations. Along the way, we unpack quirky idioms, tackle mental health, and celebrate the chaos and clarity of life in your 30s. With humor, heart, and a few dusty stories from the Playa, this episode is a reminder that every struggle is an experience earned — and every earned experience shapes who we become. Here at D&SD Over the Summer on Wednesdays we will be releasing some of our cool side campaign episodes! This series is called “The Playa Rose” is a western campaign DM'd by our Very own Andrew Kornblatt. Sharing Secrets and Digging Graves The party reunites in Liberty Bluff to compare their discoveries and plan their next moves. Over drinks at a traveling medicine show, they piece together the growing conspiracy: the bizarre blight affecting the land, the mysterious musical mercenaries, Laurentine's machinations, Floyd Davis's murder, and the identity of the mysterious "Her" pursuing Floyd's spirit. Emboldened by their alleged medicine (which may have been a bit stronger than advertised), the group decides that answers lie with Floyd's body itself. Under cover of darkness, they sneak into the cemetery to exhume his grave, hoping Morgan's necromantic abilities can extract the truth directly from the deceased. However, their midnight grave-robbing reveals an shocking discovery: instead of Floyd's corpse, they find only a strange scarecrow stuffed with straw. Investigating the coffin further, they discover a large desert lizard scale - oddly oversized and out of place. Their investigation is interrupted by the arrival of a surly, grizzled gravedigger and caretaker who alludes to these strange occurrences of missing bodies being the work of a "table witch." When Marshal asks for clarification about which table - dining room? picnic? - the gravedigger's cryptic warnings only deepen the mystery. Cupos limitados.
Here at D&SD Over the Summer on Wednesdays we will be releasing some of our cool side campaign episodes! This series is called “The Playa Rose” is a western campaign DM'd by our Very own Andrew Kornblatt. Meanwhile, in Liberty Bluff... While chaos unfolds at the homestead, Consuela and Morgan investigate the mysterious death of Floyd Davis in Liberty Bluff. Their search for his widow leads them to the sheriff's office, where they find Sheriff Scelop - a rotund, incompetent iguana-man - snoring face-down at his desk beside an empty whiskey bottle. After convincing the flustered sheriff they represent financial interests regarding Floyd, they're directed to the Davis-Bluff house with a request to tell the widow to stop "rabble rousing." The Victorian-style house with its curated native plant garden seems larger inside than out, unnaturally cool and dark despite the desert heat. They meet the surly but welcoming housemaid Miss Margery, who leads them to Dalia Blundell – an exotic, eerie figure who immediately sets Consuela on edge with vampire suspicions, while Morgan finds herself oddly enthralled. Realizing their interests align in seeking justice for Floyd, Dalia takes them to her late husband's study. In Floyd's study, they discover two of his three precious journals, plus a surveyor's chain and compass -but the third journal remains missing. As they search, Consuela experiments with a sample of arcanite, triggering a magical flash that causes her eyes to glow blue and grants her supernatural perception. In this enhanced state, Consuela witnesses the terrified specter of Floyd Davis emerging from the wall, desperately seeking Dalia before being dragged back into shadow by smoke-black arms with long claws, his final scream echoing her name. In today's episode, Scott “Sourdough” Power discusses his decision not to attend Burning Man this year—an annual pilgrimage that has long been a cornerstone of his creative life. Known for its jaw-dropping installations and rebellious artistic spirit, the festival holds a special place in Scott's heart, particularly for the cherished memories made at Camp Corny, “the friendliest fucking camp in the universe.”As he explores the reasons behind his absence, Scott balances nostalgia with the realities of life. This year, his daughter's milestone 13th birthday coincides with the festival, forcing him to weigh family commitments against the allure of the Playa. He candidly shares the bittersweet feelings that come with stepping away from an experience woven into the fabric of his identity.Scott also reflects on the evolution of Burning Man amid the rise of social media and technology, particularly the introduction of internet service provider Starlink. He questions the impact of these changes on the festival's essence and whether they dilute the very magic that draws so many to the desert. Finally, Scot considers what it means to dance to your own beat, even when the rhythm of life pulls in different directions.
