Merlin Miller continues the Gospel of Mark series with this 27th message, again titled Matters of the Heart and taken from Mark 7:14-23. Having addressed the root problem of authority, Jesus does not address where defilement and impurity come from. Like authority, this is a matter of the heart. Jesus continues reveal that God's kingdom is about an inside-out change rather than an outside-in one.
Merlin Miller continues the Gospel of Mark series with this 26th message titled Matters of the Heart and taken from Mark 7:1-13. Jesus is once again opposed by the Pharisees and scribes, this time over the issue of purification. But before Jesus addresses this issue he reveals a far deeper problem: our hearts have problems with authority.
Letting God work on your heart posture. The things hidden in our subconscious. We have to understand that flowing from my heart are the issues of our heart and they're not always Kingdom. We have to understand that God is everything we need to heal delivering set us free from anger bitterness broken heart unforgiveness traumas they keep us hostage.
1 Samuel 16: Unlike man, God judges us not on outward appearances, but by the heart.
We close the series digging into the "New Heart". Jesus gives us a NEW heart when He enters our heart. Why does our heart matter, because it matters to Jesus.
As we continue in this series, we deep dive into the "broken heart". As we will all experience one someday, what can we do and what does Jesus do in those times.

Kicking off a new series about how the condition of our heart shapes our relationship with God and others. Learning to have our heart guarded and not distracted from focusing on what matters most.
Today's episode is personal for me. I want to frankly discuss things that children will not learn in school...things that they are banned from learning, but we MUST teach them. Last week's events are testimony to it...we have a heart problem in our society right now. Have you ever considered what it truly means to live as a follower of Jesus in the day-to-day? In this message, Jerry Jones unpacks the challenge and the joy of walking in step with Christ. Drawing from Scripture, he helps us see that discipleship isn't about grand gestures—it's about daily obedience, surrender, and faithfulness.
In this message from our Matters of the Heart series, we explore the truth that there is no real security in wealth. Using lessons from Ecclesiastes 5 and the life of Solomon, we see how money never fully satisfies, can quickly disappear, and will ultimately control those who love it. The call is clear: honor God first with our resources, make wise financial choices, and remember that everything we have belongs to Him.
What if the way you manage your money is more than a financial issue—it's a spiritual one? In this kickoff to our Matters of the Heart series, Jerry Jones challenges us to rethink our attitudes toward giving, ownership, and surrender. He reminds us that everything we have belongs to God—and He's calling us to steward it for His kingdom.Tune in to hear why biblical stewardship isn't about guilt—it's about freedom.
There are two conditions that are a bit hard to define because they are invisible boundary lines, yet they often have a very strong effect on your life. Those two conditions that may be interacting are soul ties and being able to establish healthy boundaries. Both of these are hard to define because you can't point to a specific behavior to verify them. They both have to do with our heart attitudes, and they are both important because they can hinder our free will. In this podcast, we are going to look at how unhealthy soul ties might be reinforcing unhealthy boundaries. If you are not sure what I am talking about, I understand. Come along with me, and we will attempt to show how these two interact and may be causing you to struggle, and you might not even be aware. It's a heart-to-heart on Spotlight today, as Gareth and Ross kick off by discussing a Discourse question about whether running marathons is bad for your heart? Ross describes five cardiac "risks" that have been documented, giving context and a bit of reassurance in response to theory that excessive endurance training is damaging to heart tissue. We then talk about maximum heart rate, and why it's an imperfect anchor for training prescription and a poor comparison between people. We shift from heart to brain to briefly discuss whether coaches should be sanctioned when players tackle poorly in rugby, and end off with a brief look at two teen phenoms competing in Australia last week, wondering whether their trajectories are inviting unreasonable pressure at too young an age.DiscourseAs always, Spotlight is inspired by your engagement in our Discourse community, and you can become a member by visting the Patreon site, and pledging a small monthly amount that gets you access and an opportunity to engage with, and learn from, fellow listeners.Show notesIan's question about heart risk from marathon running, and some excellent Discourse replies - Members onlyThe research paper on troponin elevation after marathons, which kicked off the Discourse discussion at the front of today's showGood insight and discussion on whether too much exercise is bad for you? Here's that article i mentioned where Tim Noakes punched some holes in the theory that marathon runners would be protected against coronary artery diseaseUltimately, sudden cardiac death in marathon runners is rare. Dr. Thema Bryant, a psychologist and minister, integrates faith and science to advocate for holistic healing and resilience, a perspective deeply influenced by her personal journey and family background. With roots in her father's pastoral counseling and her mother's mental health journey, Dr. Bryant believes in the profound potential of restoration and the reclamation of joy and trust, particularly after trauma. Her experiences as a trauma survivor inform her unique approach, which emphasizes learning from past mistakes and seeking wisdom from those with healthy relationships to foster true healing. Through her work, including her book "Matters of the Heart," Dr. Bryant underscores the transformative power of turning personal pain into empowerment and the importance of authentic, loving relationships in the journey to healing. They cover the anatomy, tissues and function of the cardiovascular system, highlighting key concepts of heart health that are underappreciated. They discuss the importance of the flexibility of red blood cells, arterial walls and the heart muscle itself. They also explain the vital role of skeletal muscle contraction in healthy circulation. Muscle contraction during exercise not only assists the return of blood to the heart from the extremities, it is also the signal for blood vessels near working muscles to dilate or widen ‘pulling' blood from arteries into the tissues. Katy and Jeannette talk about a movement diet to support the cardiovascular system. They emphasize the importance of higher intensity activity for taking the heart and arteries through their full ranges of motion. Their discussion also offers up a much larger buffet of exercise options than you might have previously considered. Strength training, big body work and stress-reducing movement all have complementary benefits for the cardiovascular system. Also in this episode Katy interviews podiatrist Dr Ray McClanahan, founder of Correct Toes and one of our podcast sponsors. Correct Toes are a toe orthotic designed to return toes to their natural alignment as the widest part of the foot.
