Send us a textComing in at #2 on our list of top podcasts for 2024 is my conversation with Munira Hudani.Today I speak with Munira Hudani, a Pre- and Post-Natal physiotherapist in Canada, and an emerging leader for the management of Diastasis Rectus Abdominis. After years of frustration in landing inconsistent results with her clients, and the dissatisfaction in having to say “we just don't have enough research right now,” Munira began to challenge the conventional method to managing DRA. She realized that part of the inconsistent results came down to how DRA was being conceptualized. She started practicing with a different set of principles which improved outcomes. She has now compiled all of her knowledge and experience into a new framework that revolutionizes how we conceptualize, assess, and manage DRA. She is passionately committed to transferring this knowledge to both professionals and patients so they can finally make sense of the steps to take when navigating this condition. We talk about:-learning about diastasis recti -separating DR from back pain and other dysfunctions -DR is not preventable -factors that lead to long-term issues -management of DR -problems with the research -Is the gap bad? -feeling at home in your body -targeting the transverse abdominis -experiencing pregnancy and motherhood -letting go of expectationsTime Stamps1:00 introduction 7:05 defining diastasis recti 10:50 prevention of DR 13:45 fear mongering in pelvic health 17:30 predicting long-term issues 22:00 what the research says 27:00 explaining distortion 31:20 Is the gap bad? 40:05 creating personalized care 41:00 being a new mom 48:33 rapid fire questions CONNECT WITH CARRIEIG: https://www.instagram.com/carriepagliano/Website: https://carriepagliano.comCONNECT WITH MUNIRAInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/munirahudanipt/ Website: https://www.munirahudanipt.com/ The Active Mom Postpartum Podcast is A Real Moms' Guide to Postpartum for active moms & the postpartum professionals who help them in their journey. Send us a textWhat's up love doves! This chat features friend of the show and inimitable renaissance woman Munira Mona Morsy. Mona is a writer, poet, artist, and fight coach. We chat about a variety of topics including: artistic expression as an essential means of cultivating a healthy and dynamic culture, the intersection between comics and poetry, honoring migrants and migrant rights, and we even shift gears and discuss some nuts and bolts about self-defense and self-defense mindset, emphasizing the importance of ladies knowing how to physically defend themselves. Learning martial arts techniques not only builds confidence and neuroplasticity, it also equals things out if you consider yourself petite and are intimidated by larger humans. Remember ladies: dudes have one major vulnerability between their legs, it's really just waiting there to be kicked if need be. We even dip a toe into post-election stuff, and I feel it's always healthy and important to talk about difficult and polarizing issues in a respectful and productive way. We need to listen to one another more, in my opinion. Thanks for sharing head space!Check out Mona's innovative poetry comics on Instagram @thelighthousemonocle. In this episode on Speaking Out of Place podcast Professor David Palumbo-Liu talks with Munira Khayyat, a Lebanese anthropologist whose book, A Landscape of War: Ecologies of Resistance and Survival in South Lebanon examines what she calls “resistant ecologies in a world of perennial warfare.” Drawing on long-term fieldwork in frontline villages along Lebanon's southern border with Israel, she examines war not only as a place of death and destruction, but also necessarily, as an environment of living. We appreciate greatly that she was able to join us now, during the massive and deadly new war Israel is waging on Lebanon. Munira shows how this devastation is a continuation of wars Israel has waged against Lebanon for decades, but also how both the Lebanese people and the Lebanese landscape are resisting death and persisting in life. This episode is especially useful to those wanting to know more about Lebanon, as Professor Khayyat gives us an informative account of the intertwined histories of Lebanon, Palestine, and the State of Israel.Munira Khayyat is an anthropologist whose research revolves around life in war, intimate genealogies of empire, and theory from the South. Her first book, A Landscape of War: Ecologies of Resistance and Survival in South Lebanon (University of California Press 2022) examines resistant ecologies in a world of perennial warfare. Drawing on long-term fieldwork in frontline villages along Lebanon's southern border with Israel, she examines war not only as a place of death and destruction, but also necessarily, as an environment of living.Khayyat is currently working on a second book that fleshes out the complex heart of empire in Saudi Arabia. Heart of Black Gold draws on a personal archive meticulously created by her maternal grandfather, who was among the first Arabian employees of ARAMCO, the Arab American Oil Company. How has oil — its extractive, shiny infrastructures, camps, big men, politics and corporations, its global ecologies — shaped lived environments? Insisting on a feminist and multidisciplinary rearranging of the archive, the book inhabits history-in-the-making as it unfolds in domestic scenes, lived quarters, the affective terrains of oil.Khayyat's research has been supported by the Wenner-Gren Foundation, the Arab Council for the Social Sciences, the Rachel Carson Center. Her writing has appeared in American Ethnologist, Public Culture, JMEWS, Cultural Anthropology, Anthropology News, HAU, and a number of edited volumes. Khayyat was a Member of the School of Social Science at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton (2018-2019). Before joining NYUAD, she taught at the American University in Cairo (2013-2023) and the American University of Beirut (2011-2013). She holds a PhD in Cultural Anthropology from Columbia University (2013), an MPhil in Social Anthropology from Cambridge University (1998) and a BA in history (1997) from the American University of Beirut.

Most famous guides to strategy are written for overdogs. (Think of Machiavelli's The Prince or Sun Tzu's Art of War.) And overdogs today invest in strategic education at a scale that dwarfs anything on the left. Their commitment is captured in the slogan of the right-wing Leadership Institute, which has trained over 200,000 people: “You owe it to your philosophy to learn how to win.” In researching Practical Radicals, Stephanie and Deepak found that overdogs rely mainly on three strategies to gain and keep power: 1) weakening underdogs' sources of power; 2) employing what's known in the military as psychological operations, or PSYOPS; and 3) dividing their opponents to conquer them. The good news is that underdogs can use these same strategies against more powerful opponents. In this episode, Deepak and Stephanie discuss some great examples of how to counter corporate power, use PSYOPS against white supremacists, and drive wedges in elite coalitions. They also explore other lessons progressives can take from the overdogs' playbook: crafting long-term plans, recruiting based on belonging rather than belief, and using data-driven evaluation paired with the lean startup model for organizing. Our guest has made a career out of researching overdogs in innovative ways. Munira Lokhandwala is Director of Tech and Training at LittleSis.org, the “nonprofit public interest research organization focused on corporate and government accountability.” As the answer to Big Brother, LittleSis conducts research on the power elite, offers trainings for social change movements, and provides resources like Oligrapher, a tool that allows organizers to map power networks and pinpoint where to drive wedges. The secretive and overlapping networks of the powerful can seem “daunting” says Lokhandwala, “but actually, every one of those connections is a relationship that has to be maintained for them to maintain their power.” She encourages progressives to “think about[the overdogs'] large networks as an opportunity to come at their power, their reputation, their profits from many different angles. Then we can imagine building long-term, intersectional issue campaigns” that “turn the very source of their power against them.” Episode 12 transcript Links: LittleSis's Oligrapher for Beginners LittleSis 2024 Research Tools for Organizers Training Series Choose Democracy's scenario planning tool https://whatiftrumpwins.org/

Munira Ali discovered the joy of walking in 2019 when she was struggling with her mental health. She's now attempting to walk in all of London's 3,000 parks, spreading the message, particularly within her British-Somaliland community, about the pleasure of exploring urban green spaces. Munira's enthusiasm about walking in London's parks is utterly infectious so I couldn't wait to chat to her and hear more about the impact of the outdoors on her life and why she thinks city green spots are so important. For our walk, Munira took me to Wanstead Park in east London, a beautiful place with ancient woodland, lakes, old ruins, and meadows. Despite living in London for a decade, I'd never heard of it beforehand - so it summed up for me the endless possibilities of exploring from your doorstep - and how a curiosity about your local area can lead to big adventures. Munira shares her must visit London parks at the end of the episode, so don't miss her advice. There's also a minute of the sounds of nature for a little bit of escapism in your busy day. Munira's episode of The Outdoors Fix is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever else you get your podcasts. It's also embedded below. I hope you enjoy it! Welcome back to "Parenting the Intensity!"Today on the podcast I have the pleasure of welcoming pediatric occupational therapist Munira Ardhanwala. With over 25 years of experience, Munira has dedicated her career to helping children from birth to 13 years old with sensory and motor skills needed for movement, learning, playing, and writing. In today's episode, we'll be shining a spotlight on sensory processing and the way our senses shape our understanding of the world around us. We'll be discussing the general senses we're all familiar with - touch, smell, taste, and sight - as well as exploring three other senses that are often overlooked - Interoception, propriocetion and vestibular (if those words are new to you don't worry Munira will explain them all).Munira is here to guide us through the world of sensory processing and shed light on how it can impact emotionally intense children. She'll share her expertise on how sensory activities can support children's emotional, motor, and sensory needs, and help them thrive and give us some practical exemples of things we can do with our kids.Key takeaways of this episode:1. Sensory processing is crucial for children's development: We discuss the importance of understanding sensory processing in children, especially those who are emotionally intense. By exploring the different senses and their impact on a child's behavior and learning, parents can better support their children's sensory and emotional needs.2. Movement and proprioceptive activities can be beneficial: Munira highlights the significance of movement and engaging in activities that provide feedback to the body's proprioceptive sense. These activities help children regulate their emotions, improve body awareness, and develop motor skills necessary for tasks like writing. By incorporating resistive muscle heavy work activities, parents can help their children find a better balance between movement and relaxation.3. I've been on the lookout for an expert to talk to who knows their stuff when it comes to baby development and in this week's episode of First Time Mum's Chat, I'm chatting with Pediatric Occupational Therapist, Munira Adenwalla.Munira talks about how she helps babies to be able to get in and out of positions so they are comfortable with their bodies and explains how she contributes to their development by helping with all the little movements required to get up to sitting, standing and eventually crawling and walking.During our chat you'll hear us talk about:-Why it's so important not to rush your baby to be doing their developmental milestones and let them take their own time. How a pediatric occupational therapist can help when babies are not meeting their developmental milestones or when your gut feeling is telling you that something isn't right. How a pediatric occupational therapist helps babies that are struggling with coming into sitting and crawling positions and to be more comfortable, relieving tension in their bodies. And so much more....

Munira's myth for the myth library. Munira Al Sayegh is the head curator from Dirwaza Curatorial Lab for Evaporating Suns. This special season of Khosh Bosh consists of four hour-long episodes that discuss the works from the exhibition, Evaporating Suns, in-depth with the artists and curators, as well as a myth library that showcases the different myths that the the KBH.G and Dirwaza teams grew up hearing. The fourth episode of the special season of Khosh Bosh with Anita focuses on the subtheme The Local Natural and Built Environment from the Evaporating Suns exhibition. I am joined by Mays Albaik and Asma Belhamar and my co-host for this episode, Munira Al Sayegh. In this episode, we discuss the extensive research that was conducted by Mays and Asma for their collaborative commissioned work, Rakkaza, which references a recipe for making a human by 8th century muslim polymath, Jabir Ibn Hayyan. Rakkaza explores the connection between creation and place via studying and recording the planetary relationship to the sun and the repetition of the rotation around it–tune in to hear more about their process and the final work. Mays Albaik's interdisciplinary visual practice investigates how a sense of placehood is formed, reflected and refracted by that which mediates it – the body, language, and their various intersections. Crystalizing as performance, video, sculpture and installations, her work layers a personal poetics onto the sociopolitics that define our relationship to geography; looking for moments of immediate contact between place, body and language. She holds an MFA from Rhode Island School of Design and a B.Arch from the American University of Sharjah. Mays' early practice developed out of the oral narration of her family's history, the story of her grandfather's exile from Palestine, and the winding path through geopolitical and cultural landscapes that led to where she is now; a non-citizen resident of her country of birth. Asma Belhamar (b. Dubai, 1988) is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice frequently confronts the visual memory of local landscapes. Through this anchoring theme, she merges architectural and organic elements translating into hybrid materiality. Informed by her interdisciplinary background in art and design, projects range in approach and material to offer a perspective considering the aesthetic and theoretical implications of vernacular architectural practices within the built environment. Asma's works are largely observational, offering insight into the chronological history of architecture and responding to notions of perspective, time, and spatial memory. Munira Al Sayegh is an independent curator and cultural instigator based in Abu Dhabi, UAE. She is the founder of Dirwaza Curatorial Lab, a UAE-based curatorial incubator. She is a published author and prominent public voice in the region, highlighting the importance of grassroots initiatives, narrative reclamation and non-institutional thinking to build regional art movements from the bottom up. A couple of years later, after taking a workshop on narrative audio storytelling and reporting, she's at a crossroads: continue her path to engineering ("the sensible choice for a proper African child," she says) or make the leap into podcasting. What worlds take root in war? In A Landscape of War: Ecologies of Resistance and Survival in South Lebanon (U California Press, 2022), anthropologist Munira Khayyat describes life along the southern border of Lebanon, where resistant ecologies thrive amid a terrain of perennial war. A Landscape of War takes us to frontline villages where armed invasions, indiscriminate bombings, and scattered land mines have become the environment where everyday life is waged. This book dwells with multispecies partnerships such as tobacco farming and goatherding that carry life through seasons of destruction. Neither green-tinged utopia nor total devastation, these ecologies make life possible in an insistently deadly region. Sourcing an anthropology of war from where it is lived, this book decolonizes distant theories of war and brings to light creative practices forged in the midst of ongoing devastation. In lyrical prose that resonates with imperiled conditions across the Global South, Khayyat paints a portrait of war as a place where life must go on. Eyad Houssami makes theatre and has participated in the revitalization of an ancient organic farm in southern Lebanon. He is editor of the Arabic-English book Doomed by Hope: Essays on Arab Theatre (Pluto Press/Dar Al Adab) and was editor-at-large of Portal 9, a bilingual literary and academic journal about urbanism. His doctoral research project on ecology and agriculture in post-independence Lebanon at the University of Leeds and this work are supported by the UK Arts & Humanities Research Council (grant number AH/R012733/1) through the White Rose College of the Arts & Humanities.
