First up bringing you the report for the Coosa and Tallapoosa River system with have Eric Cagle. Eric is happy to report that the crappie have moved off structure and are in their big winter schools, making it easy to catch lots of good-sized slabs for anglers who are comfortable casting in open water. Join us as we talk about Eric's preferences for both casting and jigging rods, the differences between the Coosa and Tallapoosa Lakes, and kayaking the Tallapoosa system up above Jaybird Creek. Next up we have Dip McMillian on the Mobile-Tensaw Delta. Dip reports that anglers can expect a similar winter pattern to what Eric describes, but cautions that this year's uncommonly low water can leave heedless anglers stranded in the backwaters. Dip is also a local legend down on the Gulf Coast for his “Dippie Outdoors” nonprofit, which focuses on getting kids introduced to hunting and fishing. First up down on the Mobile-Tensaw Delta we have Justin Dunnam. We also talk a little about the “cast and blast” opportunities available to outdoorsmen on the Upper and Lower Delta WMAs. We discuss the importance of always wearing your life jacket, Justin's preferred type of PFD, and how to make sure that you're seen by power boaters when visibility is reduced. Next up we swing north to talk with Jason Whitehead on Lake Guntersville. The bass bite on the Tennessee River system is steady, with bass responding to Alabama rigs, jerk baits, and swimbaits; but the real action this time of year is found in the big schools of wintertime crappie. Hello everyone, and welcome back to the festivalPass Stories podcast. We have a jam-packed episode for you this week as Pat interviews two special guests. It's our pleasure to introduce the Communications Director and Development Coordinator (respectively), Caine O'Rear and Cece Pless of Mobile Baykeeper.  Mobile Baykeeper is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to protecting clean water, air, and keeping the community and environment of Mobile Bay Watershed and Coastal Alabama safe and healthy. Acknowledged as “North America's Amazon,” The Mobile-Tensaw Delta in Alabama is known for its diversity in it's ecosystems; also stretching to parts of Georgia, Tennessee, and Mississippi. Formed in 1997 (then West Bay Watch), Mobile Baykeeper is not just about their in-house team doing great work for the environment, but it's also about the efforts of thousands of volunteers and citizens over the years.  Our guests can certainly speak to the good deeds of the Baykeeper's members. Caine is a native of Mobile and a bit of an outdoorsman himself. As a former editor-in-chief of American Songwriter Magazine, Caine is instrumental in being the bridge between the members of Mobile Baykeeper, and the public. Born in Birmingham, Alabama, Cece started as an intern at Mobile Baykeeper after studying “the sustainability of international fisheries. Now, she helps the cause by recruiting sponsors and leading volunteering and fundraising events.  Speaking of festivities, Mobile Baykeeper is recognized for its entertainment, as well as being hands-on in helping the environment. This is Festival Pass after all, and Baykeeper knows how to throw a lively event. Some of their annual events include Bay Bites (a food truck festival), Bay Inspiration (a showcase of the Baykeeper mission), and Bay Bash (a gala for their biggest sponsors and supporters). The pandemic has turned these events virtual, but we look forward to them returning live in the future.  Caine and Cece explain how we all can individually do our part to help the environment, and the Mobile Baykeeper website includes an abundance of educational tools for those watching who want to get more involved in helping the planet. Make sure to purchase tickets for their upcoming events while they're still available, and assist the organization through donations.     “We're helping these businesses but they're making the switch to more eco-friendly material from single-use plastic. What we're trying to do is offset some of that cost by giving them a lot of P.R…and generate some passive-aggressive peer pressure for other businesses in downtown Mobile to also make the switch.” - Caine O'Rear (Mobile Baykeeper)   Catch the interview on Festival Pass Stories! https://festivalpass.com/stories   You can find Caine and Cece on:    Mobile Baykeeper's Website- https://www.mobilebaykeeper.org   LinkedIn- https://www.linkedin.com/company/mobile-baykeeper/   Instagram- https://www.instagram.com/mobilebaykeeper/    Facebook- https://www.facebook.com/MobileBaykeeper/    Connect with Festival Pass!   Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/getfestivalpass/    Instagram - https://instagram.com/festival_pass/   Twitter - https://twitter.com/pass_festival    Website - https://festivalpass.com/

What were thought to be the remains of America's last slave ship--the Clotilda--were unearthed on a muddy river bank in the Mobile-Tensaw Delta in Alabama in 2018. These purported remains, and the artifacts from another slave ship, the São José-Paquete de Africa, are important symbols of the cultural relationship and interconnected history of the trans-Atlantic slave trade. In this episode of World Ocean Radio, part one of a four-part series on Slavery in America, we discuss maritime culture, the last slave ships, the atrocities of the slave trade, and the ways in which our cultural identity in the United States has been shaped by an amalgamation of cultures.

Jason is pleased to report that fishing conditions are good on Guntersville, with the warming water providing anglers plenty of opportunities at both bass and crappie on this legendary fishery. Join us as he discusses pre-spawn strategies for each species, and offers words of wisdom to anglers sharing popular waters with “the competition.”Next up we have Dip McMillian down on the Mobile-Tensaw Delta. While conditions aren't perfect yet, they're improving quickly, and after an exploratory trip last weekend Dip is excited about what the next couple of weeks will bring. Join us as we talk shallow water fishing for crappie, and discuss why anglers notice disproportionately high concentrations of black or white crappie depending on which stretch of the water they're on.Finally, we have an interview with Nicholas Conklin with TFO Rods. It's a great time to be an angler, and this week we've got some great topics lined up.First up we have Dip McMillian reporting in from the Mobile-Tensaw Delta. As usual, Dip is on the crappie, seeming to know what they're going to do even before they know themselves! Dip reports that crappie are scattered now in 8-10 feet of water, and that anglers able to target them can expect to pull in some really big ones. While the springtime limb-line bite is winding down, Dip is also still finding success with big blues and flatheads. Finally, we're proud to see Dip get some recognition for his skills in the form of a new color offered by ATX Lure Company, the “Dippi Tensaw Special.” If you fish muddy or stained water, be sure to grab a pack the next time you're in town.Stay tuned to hear from former AFFR Host, Brian Senn.
