In this follow-up video, I dive deeper into the viral conversation sparked by my previous breakdown of the 40-year-old single, overweight Black woman who appeared on the Kendra G Dating Show. The comments section on YouTube and across my social media exploded — and I listened. After researching the numbers, I discovered that Black women statistically lead in both single motherhood rates and obesity rates compared to other ethnic groups. In this video, I address the harsh truths, community accountability, and the tough conversations we need to have about dating, health, and generational cycles in the Black community.

AP correspondent Karen Chammas reports on commemorations for the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica massacre in Bosnia.
Bible School 2025: The Pursuit of God Introduction The goal for the week is to dive deep into spiritual topics as adults while the children receive special instruction. The church has been praying for the Holy Spirit to saturate and fill every room, heart, and teacher throughout the week. "It takes the Holy Spirit to do anything that is spiritually important." The focus will be on the pursuit of God, revisiting a topic from the previous year with expanded lessons. Notes will be available for those who want them. Pastor Tommy emphasizes the importance of God's people "getting into that normal, expectant, pushing toward apprehending God every day." The devil uses many "thieves" to steal the relationship with God. Pastor Tommy credits A.W. Tozer's book, The Pursuit of God, as a significant influence. Tozer was a pastor who gave away all royalties from his books and lived a simple life dedicated to serving God. "Here was a man that gave everything he had to serve God...he gave it away and he wrote never owned a car him and his wife would road a bus everywhere they went." Revelation 2 and 3: Churches of Ephesus and Laodicea The Revelator, through the Holy Spirit, provides a chronological picture of the church age, from the New Testament church to the church of Laodicea. Ephesus (Revelation 2:1-7): A powerful, growing church filled with the transforming power of God. Known for its works, labor, patience, and intolerance of evil. Criticized for having "left thy first love." The church is urged to repent and return to their initial devotion. Laodicea (Revelation 3:14-22): Represents the modern church, characterized by talk of religion but lacking substance. Materially rich but spiritually "wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked." Lukewarm, neither cold nor hot, leading to the threat of being "spewed...out of my mouth." The church is warned to repent and return to God. Pastor Tommy suggests that elements of both churches may be present in contemporary congregations. Some may have lost their first love, worn down by the world. Others may be living in sin and indifferent toward God. Both conditions require change and repentance. The Pursuit of God: An Urge Within Us The pursuit of God is spurred by an urge that God places within us. The Holy Spirit wants to help individuals move from where they are to where they need to be. John 6:44 states, "No man can come unto Me except the Father draw him." It was the Holy Spirit that led individuals to conviction and opened their hearts to faith. Pastor Tommy emphasizes that salvation is not the end but the beginning of a journey. "When a person is born again, that is but the inception." The Holy Spirit's work is essential to prevent individuals from taking credit for their spiritual achievements. "If it wasn't for the Holy Spirit of God I wouldn't be saved." The impulse to pursue God originates with God, and the outworking is our following hard after Him. Even in pursuit, individuals are already in God's hand. Apathy and indifference toward God are prevalent among Christians. People come to church and leave unchanged, without engaging in personal prayer or Bible study. Examples of Pursuing God David (Psalm 63:1, 8; 42:1-2): Sought God early and thirsted for Him. His soul followed hard after God. "O God, Thou art my God; early will I seek Thee; my soul thirsteth for Thee." A man after God's own heart, always wanting more of Him. Moses: Spoke with God face to face but desired to see His glory. God honored his request by allowing him to see a glimpse of His glory from the cleft of the rock. Moses' face shone brightly after the encounter. "Moses got to see it because he asked him for more." Apostle Paul (Philippians 3:12-14, 8-10): Acknowledged that he had not yet attained perfection but ...
Jesus modeled a beautiful example for us on how to be aware of our humanness. He was the incarnate Son of God, Emmanuel, God with us in human form. He dwelt among us. He experienced every aspect of humanity so that he could understand what it means for us to live in this mortal body. He became hungry, thirsty, and tired. He was tempted in every way, yet without sin. He never hid his humanness. he asked his Father for help, as He also longed for support from his disciples. Following Jesus' steps, we can become a High Road Leader.Support the show
Psalm 32English Standard VersionA Maskil of David.32 Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.2 Blessed is the man against whom the Lord counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit.3 For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.4 For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer. Selah5 I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity;I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah6 Therefore let everyone who is godly offer prayer to you at a time when you may be found;surely in the rush of great waters, they shall not reach him.7 You are a hiding place for me; you preserve me from trouble; you surround me with shouts of deliverance. Selah8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.9 Be not like a horse or a mule, without understanding, which must be curbed with bit and bridle, or it will not stay near you.10 Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts in the Lord.11 Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, O righteous, and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!
What makes old Malbec vines planted in the 1920s so rare and valuable today? Why would a Canadian winemaker head to Mendoza, Argentina, to start a winery? What's one of the biggest challenges holding back Canadian wine and how can consumers change that? In this episode of the Unreserved Wine Talk podcast, I'm chatting with Ann Sperling & Peter Gamble. You can find the wines we discussed at https://www.nataliemaclean.com/winepicks Highlights What makes Devotion different from other On Seven wines? What inspired Peter to look beyond Canada to Argentina for winemaking? How did he decide on the particular vineyard to purchase? What is massal selection in viticulture? How did Versado end up with such old vines, and how does this show up in the wine? Are there aspects of Malbec that are similar to Pinot? How have Ann and Peter revitalized the Leily Winery? What are the differences and similarities between Leily and On Seven Chardonnays? What would Ann and Peter like their legacies to be in the Canadian wine industry? What are the greatest threats to the Canadian wine industry? Which three figures in the wine industry would Peter invite to a dream dinner party? Key Takeaways In the 1905 to 1925 period in Argentina, winemakers at the time planted the greatest genetic diversity amongst the Malbec vines, because they were still learning about it. Their Versado vineyard reflects that time when genetic diversity was appreciated. We visited a lot of wine regions in the world for the meetings, both fun and a necessity, and one of them was Mendoza and loved the climate - a really interesting climate from the point of view of creating flavors and grapes, and really liked the lifestyle as well. We essentially decided it'd be interesting to do something small there that also gives us a second harvest during New Year's. So we can practice twice as often. That was the driver, the potential quality there. They've been talking about this for probably the 40 years that they've been making wine and and they want to figure out how to have lasting consumer engagement. They have a lot of devoted buyers, but they also know kind of the monopoly culture is that, well, if the wine you were looking for today isn't on the shelf, you can buy something else. Promoting the message of buying directly from the wineries, and if you want to try that wine that's made in Nova Scotia or BC, that you actually can order it and have it shipped to your home province. Those interprovincial trade barriers aren't real. There's lots of wine shipping that's taking place already. Just get on your computer like you do with so many other products that you buy and buy online. About Ann Sperling & Peter Gamble Often referred to as the “power couple” of the Canadian wine industry, Peter Gamble and Ann Sperling have long pursued the pinnacles of wine quality in Canadian vineyards and wineries. Following her upbringing on her family's Okanagan Valley vineyard, Ann turned to the soil for the character and complexity of her wines. Acknowledged as a Canadian pioneer of organic and biodynamic viticulture, ‘terroir' was at the centre of her philosophy and she is renowned for her head winemaking roles at Malivoire, Southbrook, and Sperling Vineyards. Peter, a lifetime wine industry professional, has worked alongside Canada's most passionate winemakers to achieve greater heights with our finest appellation wines. Since 2000, Peter has provided expertise in ultra-premium winemaking operations, including: Stratus, Ravine, Benjamin Bridge and Lightfoot & Wolfville. With the purchase of a top-flight ancient Malbec planting in Mendoza, Argentina, in 2008, Ann and Peter broadened their winemaking activities, but Niagara remains their cherished home base. Current focus is on these Niagara projects: On Seven, Lailey and Stonebridge Vineyards and Dobbin Estate. To learn more, visit https://www.nataliemaclean.com/343.
What were the key challenges and breakthroughs that shaped the BC and Ontario wine industries in the 1980s and 90s? What makes or breaks a new wine project, and why is finding the right vineyard often the most time-consuming step? What made Peter believe that Niagara-on-the-Lake could produce exceptional Chardonnay? In this episode of the Unreserved Wine Talk podcast, I'm chatting with Ann Sperling & Peter Gamble. You can find the wines we discussed at https://www.nataliemaclean.com/winepicks Highlights What was Ann's best memory from growing up on the farm? When did Ann and Peter know that they wanted to work in the wine industry? How did Ann and Peter meet? What was the first bottle of wine Ann and Peter shared? How do Ann and Peter navigate their interwoven personal and professional lives? How do they negotiate professional disagreements, and who chooses the wine for dinner? What were the major challenges and opportunities in the BC and Ontario wine industry in the 1980s and 90s? In the early days, how did Peter envision the future of Ontario wines? What are some of the reasons certain vintages almost didn't make it into the bottle? What do you look for when considering a new project? What makes Ann and Peter different from the stereotypical flying winemakers? What were the signs that Niagara-on-the-Lake could produce exceptional Chardonnay? How has working on a small, focused vineyard impacted Ann and Peter's winemaking choices? Why must you suffer to make top-notch wines? Key Takeaways It was in the early 80s in BC and maybe slightly before that in Ontario, that estate wineries became a thing. Prior to that, that meant there were a few really large wineries, not really making estate or single vineyards. Vineyards were a source of bulk wine for the most part. The hunt for the vineyard became a very important one. We looked at over 230 vineyards before we found one. I think everyone there was on the verge of giving up on this, thinking “Well, they're not really going to buy anything.” Because we'd get it to a certain stage, then we do soil analysis, and we weren't quite happy, or we talked to people who had made wine from the vineyard or something would come up, and we just wouldn't quite be where we wanted to be with the quality of the vineyard. I often work on the basis of paradigms, where I'll take a look at a wine sold throughout the world and say, you know, I think this could be done really well in this area. You know what it is you might be able to accomplish within the parameters that you have - the obvious things, the terroir, the exposures to soils, the temperatures in general. James Copnall, presenter of the BBC's Newsday, speaks to Yoshua Bengio, the world-renowned computer scientist often described as one of the godfathers of artificial intelligence, or AI.Bengio is a professor at the University of Montreal in Canada, founder of the Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute - and recipient of an A.M. Turing Award, “the Nobel Prize of Computing”. AI allows computers to operate in a way that can seem human, by using programmes that learn vast amounts of data and follow complex instructions. Big tech firms and governments have invested billions of dollars in the development of artificial intelligence, thanks to its potential to increase efficiency, cut costs and support innovation.Bengio believes there are risks in AI models that attempt to mimic human behaviour with all its flaws. For example, recent experiments have shown how some AI models are developing the capacity to deceive and even blackmail humans, in a quest for their self-preservation. Instead, he says AI must be safe, scientific and working to understand humans without copying them. The Interview brings you conversations with people shaping our world, from all over the world. On this day in Tudor history — traditionally 15th June 1519 — Henry Fitzroy, the illegitimate but much-loved son of King Henry VIII and Elizabeth “Bessie” Blount, was born at the Priory of St Lawrence in Essex. Acknowledged by his father and showered with titles, Fitzroy was raised for greatness. At just six, he became Duke of Richmond and Somerset, Earl of Nottingham, and Knight of the Garter—unprecedented honours for a royal bastard. He was educated like a prince, married into the powerful Howard family, and held top-level posts including Lord Admiral and President of the Council of the North. There were even whispers he might be legitimised and named heir. But in July 1536, aged only seventeen, Fitzroy died suddenly—likely from tuberculosis—just weeks after witnessing the fall of Anne Boleyn. His father was devastated. Had Fitzroy lived, could he have succeeded his father as king? Was England robbed of a strong, adult heir? Send us a textThe most powerful encouragers often struggle to encourage themselves. This paradox forms the heart of our conversation as we explore how small, intentional acts of affirmation can transform someone's entire outlook. When's the last time you sent that morning text to your spouse? Acknowledged someone's hard work with specific praise? Or simply told someone "I'm proud of you"? These seemingly minor gestures can become lifelines for the people around us. We share personal stories about how unexpected encouragement lifted us during moments of self-doubt – like the worship leader questioning their performance who receives a timely, specific compliment, or the weight-loss journeyer who needs that regular accountability and celebration of progress. What makes encouragement truly effective isn't grand gestures but genuine attention to what matters to someone. Setting reminders for your friend's important day, noticing specific efforts rather than general outcomes, and being present when someone needs affirmation. We dive into the fascinating dynamic between outward confidence and inner self-consciousness – how many of us "portray confidence while feeling self-conscious" in our work, ministry, and relationships. The conversation takes unexpected turns through American Idol critiques, martial arts training adventures, and summer movie recommendations (including an F1 racing film starring Brad Pitt that surprisingly has us all interested). But the message remains clear throughout: your encouragement matters more than you know, and someone in your life desperately needs to hear from you today. What small step could you take right now to lift someone else's spirits? Monique Parks - Rome Experience Read More......Read Less Expectations vs. Reality of the Trip Initial expectations were based on idealized images of Italy, like those seen in Italian restaurants, with streams, boats, and picturesque scenes. The reality was different, with descriptions of the city as "dirty." Encounters with Missionaries and Refugees Visited missionaries and people he's been working with in Lebanon. Heard testimonies of people who went through hardships to find safety. Muslims had to hide their Christian faith to avoid being killed. "They had to hang on to bottoms of trucks, and somewhere safe, because if people knew that they were Christians, even if it was their own thing, we would have killed them" The experience made her feel inadequate in her own service to the Lord. "It made me feel this small, you know, because I don't do nearly enough for the Lord" Observations in Vatican City Felt a sense of unease in Vatican City. Felt that most people were "going to hell." Observed sadness, anger, and rudeness in the people encountered. "They all looked so sad. Sad or mad or just rude. They were very rude." Attributed this to a lack of faith in the Lord. "That's what you have when you don't have the Lord." Impactful Testimonies Hearing testimonies was the most impactful part of the trip. Met a man from the "Afghan house" who had been taking care of himself since age nine. He has been his main provider since he was nine years old. Reflected on how his own children could not handle such responsibility. "I can't imagine my kids even being 10 and 11 taking care of themselves" Realized her own selfishness and need to help others more. Commitment to Spreading the Word Determined to share her faith despite potential criticism. "I'm trying to get the word out there. No matter if people think I'm crazy or look at me funny, talk about me, whatever. There's worse things." Motivated by the belief that people are "facing hell." Discomfort with Public Transportation Experienced discomfort with public transportation due to being an introvert. "Anybody that knows me well, I'm not much of an outgoing person or a hickly person." Hoped that their positive attitude on public transport might have positively impacted others. "Just smiling and laughing and just trying to make the best of certain situations that hopefully that was a lie to somebody." Concerns for Victor's Ministry Expressed concern for Victor's ministry in Italy due to language barriers. "He doesn't know fluently Italian" Asked for prayers for Victor to learn Italian and effectively teach about the Lord. "Pray for him that he can learn what he needs to learn, but teach them about the Lord in, you know, whatever way that he can." Acknowledged the loneliness and barriers Victor faces. "Just being around people who had no idea what you were there for and seeing you walking down the street and just look at you funny" Observations on Local Churches Visited churches with small congregations of believers. "Maybe 40 of them all together that are trying to make it happen." Noted that many locals do not believe in the Lord and worship Mary and the saints. "They worship Mary and they worship, you know, the saints and things like that." Expressed hope for the churches to help the people. Reflection on Personal Responsibility Realized the need to be more active in sharing faith, especially compared to those in challenging situations. "We live in the Bible Belt. We don't even come out of our house to say anything to anybody." Recognized her own insignificance and limited thinking. "That showed me just how small I am on the spectrum and how little that I think." Pastor Tommy Read More......Read Less Rome Trip Overview
Leo Fender was heavily influenced by the work of Paul Bigsby in the late 1940s, yet in all of the interviews he did, he never acknowledged it. Today we look at both the influences, and the reasons why Leo did not give the credit that Paul Bigsby deserved for his innovations that filtered into every Fender guitar. To help us, we have an amazing copy of the 1948 Bigsby "Merle Travis" guitar, that clearly spotlights the influence on the Fender Telecaster, Stratocaster, and just about every instrument that Leo designed.Amazon affiliate links:The Bigsby Book by Andy Babuikhttps://amzn.to/4iwxtO6Sixteen Tons, By Merle Travis & Deke Dickersonhttps://amzn.to/4hgE6mC Follow me on Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/askzac/To Support the Channel:Patreon https://www.patreon.com/AskZacTip jar: https://paypal.me/AskZacVenmo @AskZac Or check out my store for merch - https://my-store-be0243.creator-spring.com/Support the show

Guest: Jeff Peterson Guest Bio: Jeff Peterson knows B2B selling. With more than 15 years of experience as a sales executive and sales manager, primarily with both local and national linen and uniform companies, and the packaging industry. Jeff has a strong track record of delivering industry-leading results in competitive markets. While still having “boots on the ground” in sales management, he has shared his empathetic, value-based sales and marketing approach through numerous publications, consultations, and engagements. A husband and parent of four children, in his increasingly rare free time Jeff enjoys a great restaurant, live music, playing tennis, and getting himself into adventures exploring new cities and towns. Key Points: Introduction to Sales: A mentor offered him a sales job, even though he wasn't qualified. Minimal training — was told to knock on 30 doors daily and input data into a CRM system. Gained experience through trial and error, learning alongside a team of peers in the millennial uniform world. Transition to Sales Manager: After his boss was promoted, Jeff was thrust into the sales manager role with little formal training. Took initiative to figure things out, continuously learning over the years. Acknowledged both successes and failures, but focused on learning from mistakes and helping his team grow. Sales Development: Developed a passion for the craft of sales, learning from thought leaders in the field. Focused on constantly improving and passing on that knowledge to others. Sales Leadership Approach: Emphasizes systematic and adaptable training and onboarding processes. Customizes training based on the individual's level of expertise, offering an 8-week process with supervised practice. Believes in guiding the team and letting them find their own methods, but with close oversight in the beginning. Prospecting and Growth: Faces challenges in an industry that could be complacent with existing customers, but emphasizes the importance of new revenue. Encouraged a culture of prospecting, focusing on old-school methods (cold calls, email outreach) to grow the business. Managing Sales Team Culture: Has worked to shift from a "hunter-farmer" model to one focused on generating new revenue. Values create a mindset focused on new business, which he believes is essential for organizational success. Challenges with CRM Usage: Sees CRM as a critical sales enablement tool but acknowledges that getting full buy-in from salespeople can be difficult. Focuses on showing the CRM's benefits, such as organizing tasks and managing opportunities efficiently. Strives for a balance between enforcing CRM usage and respecting top performers' flexibility. Balancing Optimism and Realism: Struggles with maintaining enthusiasm while also being pragmatic about challenges and issues within the company or industry. Believes in transparency with his team, providing honest updates about challenges while focusing on solutions and maintaining morale. Focuses on ensuring his sales team stays motivated and confident despite external challenges. Will brewing ever truly manage to become ‘sustainable'? Acknowledged by the UK government as a highly energy intensive sector of the economy, the industrial act of making beer has a far larger drain on our natural resources than those simply caused by heating liquid up and cooling it down again.Brewing uses a massive amount of water for a start, whether that's for cleaning, packaging, or making the beer itself. More pertinently, there's the fact that brewing is almost wholly reliant on industrial agriculture perennially lurking in its sizable shadow. The production of grain and hops for brewing has, arguably, the biggest impact on the industry's carbon footprint, which is why breweries like Gipsy Hill in South London are looking for ways to mitigate this. The brewery's founder, Sam McMeekin, has appeared on this podcast before speaking about what's know as ‘regenerative agriculture' – a system of sustainable cultivation that endeavours to increase the amount of carbon locked away by soils and their surrounding ecosystems. At FyneFest in 2022 the brewery was pouring a beer called Regenerator, which in addition to using regeneratively farmed barley malt, also utilised second use hops, reclaimed using a centrifugal filter Gipsy Hill has invested a considerable amount of money in.In August 2024 I paid a visit to the brewery to learn more about its investment into sustainable beer production. Regenerator has now spawned two new core beers. Called Trail (a pale ale) and Swell (a lager) both breweries use completely regeneratively farmed barley, contracted directly by Gipsy Hill and then malted for them at Warminster Maltings. A lot happened at Gipsy Hill after this conversation was recorded, including its acquisition by Sunrise Alliance Beverages – a step it took to avoid putting the company into administration. Which begs the question – can breweries actually afford to invest in sustainability at a meaningful level? Tune in to hear about the efforts Sam and Gipsy Hill continue to make in reducing this brewery's carbon footprint. We're able to produce The Pellicle Podcast directly thanks to our Patreon subscribers, and our sponsors Loughran Brewers Select. Prof Kehinde Andrews, the UK's first professor of Black studies and one of the UK's leading experts on race, has called for a public holiday to remember the horrors of slavery. According to Andrews there was ‘really nothing more important to Britain's development than slavery.' He feels that an official public holiday is needed to keep its memory alive and preserve a conscience of the horrors of the trade and remind us of the continued consequences of slavery today. Although he said one day was “not even close to enough” to acknowledge the UK's links to the historical transatlantic slave trade. How much was Britain involved? What are the modern consequences of slavery in the UK? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions ! To listen to the latest episodes, click here: Why do we sneeze?
