That's exactly what we did with Joe from Anglers Coffee, stirring up a conversation as hearty as their newest Rainbow Trout and Brown Trout coffee blends. As we took a virtual tour of Anglers Coffee's eventful year, Joe spilled the beans on the dynamics between specialty Arabica and robust Robusta, and the launch of their high-octane Stimulator blend. We also got the inside scoop on their latest splash at the Virginia Fly Fishing and Wine Festival and the buzz around the upcoming show in Edison, New Jersey. Amidst the winter chill, there's nothing like the promise of a hopeful steelhead run to warm the spirits of anglers braving Washington's Olympic Peninsula. In this spirit, I shared my own winter fishing tales and the reflective art of fly tying, drawing a parallel to the craft of brewing the perfect cup. We explored the trade-offs between the purity of freshly ground beans and the convenience of K-Cups and steeping pouches, all while keeping sustainability at the forefront. Wrapping up the episode, we circled back to a previous conversation about the heartwarming work with foster children, and the importance of supporting such causes through our communities. Join us for this episode where we celebrate the fusion of coffee, fishing, and the shared values that keep our streams—and our cups—overflowing. Steve Kolnik is an avid fisherman turned Fishing Guide in Pennsylvania. Steve grew up fishing the Lehigh River as a kid and his passion grew from there. Spending countless days fishing the LeHigh River, Steve most likely knows the river better than almost anyone. He regularly catches Trophy Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout and Smallmouth Bass. A few years back Steve invested in a Willies Drift Boat for his guide business which has opened up so much opportunity for the fishermen he takes out on the water. Drift Boats are rather unique in that they float very high in the water, are very stable, they maneuver very easily and can stop on a dime even in swift current. This gives Steves customers the ability to make multiple casts in areas and holes where most fishermen only have time for a single cast. The boat is set up for both fly fishing and conventional fishing depending on the skills and desires of the clients. In this podcast you will hear Steve talk about his experiences and adventures on the Lehigh River. If you would like to get a hold of Steve to talk about a trip he can be reached at: Steve Kolnik Phone: (610) 597-4905 Email: GravyboatGS@gmail.com --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/ted-johnson3/message

This week Clint and Dawson sat down with Mark Martin. Mark was President of Marmot Mountain for 21 years. Mark is an avid fly fisherman and has an obsession with fishing for rainbow trout in Alaska. Mark grew up on the Rogue River in Oregon. He has fished his entire life. Mark says he has had a passion for fishing but pretty sure it has “morphed” into an obsession for big trout and steelhead. His first trip to Alaska was almost 20 years ago with the family. Got to experience the vast wilderness of Alaska from many points of view (kayak, boat, plane, hiking) and also got a taste of how different Alaska is for fishing. Mark returned in 2010, as part of a “buddies” trip to the Bristol Bay area for gigantic rainbow trout. These first trips were self-guided, with lots of lessons learned about how to best fish the rivers and creeks, what gear to bring for the day, where to walk and where to avoid, plus proper bear etiquette. He was able to learn enough to succeed on the early trips but also realized that a guide was essential to really access the best locations. Mark explains float planes are essential to travel to the remote rivers and creeks. Since 2010, he has been on 17 trips to the Bristol Bay area for rainbow trout fishing. And while there are opportunities to fish for salmon (Kings, Silvers, and Sockeye) in the area, it is the allure of an Alaska Rainbow Trout that keeps him coming back. They are strong, feisty, and acrobatic unlike any other freshwater fish in his opinion. Mark shares stories, tips and discusses the fishery, the Bristol Bay area and the grandeur Katmai National Park and lots and lots and lots of bear stories. Thanks for listening!
