Midnight Meanderings - Ep 38 SOLO QUEUE DISCORD now available:  https://discord.gg/nXQVqERcSU Show Notes  Welcome to Episode 38! – 2:13         Time to pin you down and force you to listen to what I think of Midnight so far.  Or maybe just entertain you while you work or commute or mow the lawn or whatever it is you are doing.  Thanks for bringing Solo Queue along!  By the way, the countdown checklist idea on a podcast on the day that the U.S. launched four astronauts towards the Moon is sheer coincidence.  In fact, my intro preview came out to Patreon supporters days ago.  Serendipity, baby!   News – 6:37 SQ Socials news Horde neighborhood – Desolate Collective – finally figured out how to add members beyond those on the original charter; not great for momentum, but the key was, as I suspected, strip down to no add-ons and the invite button on the roster actually functioned properly! The test was Gershom and she is the first new member; reach out in game or out if you want to move your Horde house to the Desolate Collective The SQ Guild Solo Together is strong and growing. You can find it in the Alliance Guild Finder, but it is open to both factions.  We have an Alliance side Guild Neighborhood that is open to members of the guild.  If you want to join, just reach out and we will get you an invite, Horde or Alliance.  It is a bunch of cool people of many different backgrounds hanging out, checking in on each other, all very casual.  New Discord link: https://discord.gg/N86fhRkDem  If you are good people, come check it out.  I am @sweeperdave on Discord and of course, soloqueuewow on everything else out there. GT change/delay – yeah, life finds a way into all of my plans; GT on hold, but will return; also quietly on hold is this year's 64-competitor single-elimination tournament among Warcraft characters will take a year off. Rufus is available, Habitat for Humanity; through May 12; The mini war hammer in the mouth is amazing. Music video/marketing from WoW and the musician Aurora is fantastic S1 – what is open, what is left? A lot of S1 is now open with the arrival of M+ keystones last week and the Darkway delve. For raids, the Voidspire and the Dreamrift both opened on Mythic difficulty.  All other diff of the Dreamrift, the one-boss raid, opened the previous week.  For the Voidspire, LFR wing 2 is available, as is the as-yet-unimproved Story Mode version. Coming this week with the March 31 reset is wing 3 of LFR for VS along with the Normal, Heroic, and Mythic versions of the 3rd raid of Midnight, March on Quel'Danas. This is a 2-boss raid.  The Raid Finder/LFR and SM versions arrive the following week on April 7.  And the final delve, the Parhelion Plaza opens this week as well.  New nemesis for the season is Nullaeus, and Valeera Sanguinar is here to help you through all of the Delves. A Race to World First update? On Solo Queue? 9 bosses from all 3 of the raids, with of course the final 2 bosses taking the stage on Tuesday with the launch of the March on Quel'Danas. As of the time of recording, there are three familiar names that have cleared the first two raids and are awaiting the penultimate boss: Liquid, Echo, and Method.  Six more teams are trying to take down the final boss, identified as the Crown of the Cosmos in the Adventure Guide. Spring sale on Bnet – pets and mounts and packs of stuff, along with certain game services Twitch drop is the Cuddly Void Grrgle; before April 23; watch 4 hours of WoW on Twitch 0.5 preview of what is interesting No release date yet, but an 8 week cycle would be April 28, so there is still plenty of time. The Voidforge will help to upgrade gear. That said, the Nebulous Voidcores that you will need to upgrade gear come from M+ d, raids, Bountiful Delves, and Nightmare level Prey Hunts.  More open-world activities launch with 12.0.5 with Void Assaults comprised of Void Strkes and Void Incursions. Another activity is Ritual Sites, a tiered scenario that can be tackled solo or with a party of up to five players. Add the underwater fishing activity called Abyss Anglers and it seems like there will be a lot of options to freshen up your routine midway through Season 1 of Midnight.   Class Identity Challenge – 27:45 On Azeroth Morning Radio, Jibbs described his connection to the Paladin class to his own life and that got me thinking about why I identify with my favorite class, Druid of course.    Hero's Call Co-Opted – 36:33 And continuing with AMR-adjacent content, I low-key (as my 9th grade students say) stole the Hero's Call Board segment from them for a good reason, to highlight someone awesome in the WoW community.   “What Have You Done Lately?” – 53:56        Honestly, not enough Warcraft, but both Haranir characters have been created bringing the active roster to 69.  My oldest active character, and possibly my first character, is the first Horde character to start an expansion for me, and he has hit 90 and already wiped once in the “Story” Mode raid.  Oof.   Main Topic:  My Midnight Experience – 1:29:19 Walking through the leveling campaign going through my thoughts on the zones, storylines, music, graphics, and selected systems in Midnight. Silvermoon City – 1:39:22 Eversong Woods – 1:45:20 Arator's Journey – 1:55:22 Zul'Aman – 1:59:48 Harandar – 2:07:41 Voidstorm – 2:17:40   Closing Thoughts – 2:25:26 Wrapping it all up, including my brief thoughts on the so-called “Story” Mode raid for the Voidspire and a potential reveal of the final boss…   Outro – 2:37:10 Thanks to all of you for your patience in waiting for this episode, Blizzard for the amazing music and sound, to OGRE for intro/outro music, my lovely and supportive wife, my family, and YOU for listening. Every procurement organization wants to add more strategic value to the enterprise—but not every organization needs a full-scale transformation to do so. Listen in as Jake Taylor, Managing Director for ProcureAbility, discusses how leaders can take a choose-your-own-adventure approach to strategic procurement, starting with an unbiased assessment of what's actually broken. From stakeholder misalignment and fragmented processes to outdated systems and unclear success metrics, progress starts with big-picture clarity. Jake explores how to assess whether your organization is ready for a bold transformation—or whether targeted tuning will deliver faster, more sustainable impact while building the business case and executive momentum for a broader future scope. His discussion with Dawn Tiura, CEO & President of SIG will include insights on: Diagnosing the Real Problem: How to move beyond generic improvement goals and clearly identify root causes—across stakeholders, processes, data, capabilities, and technology. Transform vs. Tune Decisions: When a holistic procurement transformation makes sense—and when focused, high-impact tuning is the smarter path. What Makes Transformation Possible: Why a clear business case and executive mandate are non-negotiable for large-scale change, and what to do when they don't exist.

Ep 190 w/ Dave Seminara - Inside South Africa, Lesotho & Eswatini: Dave's Ultimate African Adventure GuideIn this week's episode, I sit down once again with writer, journalist, YouTuber and seasoned traveller Dave Seminara, who has just returned from an epic journey across South Africa, Eswatini and Lesotho. This conversation dives deep into one of the most fascinating regions on the planet, and Dave takes us right into the heart of it—through national parks, vibrant townships, mountain kingdoms and some unforgettable encounters along the way.We start in Cape Town, where Dave shares his experience navigating one of the world's most spectacular cities, from its dramatic geography and unpredictable weather to the realities of inequality and the history woven into its suburbs. He takes us for a raw and honest look at the Cape Flats, where he met community leaders working to interrupt gang violence and support local youth. It's eye-opening, powerful and adds an important layer to any understanding of South Africa. From there, Dave describes the magic of going on safari for the first time, including what it's like to stay on a restored luxury train in Kruger National Park, the thrill of spotting wildlife up close, and why safari is both the most rewarding and unpredictable style of travel. He shares practical tips on budget, expectations and what to do when your game drive luck runs cold. We also talk about the difference between national parks and private game reserves, the food (which sounds absolutely unbelievable), and the guides who bring the whole experience to life.Dave then takes us into the Drakensberg Mountains for hikes, ancient Bushmen rock art and one of the most unique lodge stays he's ever experienced. And of course, we cross borders into Eswatini and Lesotho, exploring the logistics, the culture and why both mini-kingdoms are absolutely worth adding to any Southern Africa itinerary. This episode is packed with insights for anyone dreaming of Africa, planning a first visit or simply curious about what travel looks like beyond the iconic highlights. Dave brings his humour, honesty and deep curiosity, and by the end you'll understand why this trip made him rethink his entire travel focus. If you enjoy the episode, please rate and review the podcast on your favourite app and subscribe on YouTube—every bit of support helps the show grow. Dee Anna's story is one of resilience, adventure, and refusing to let society define her limits.  Born with a genetic mutation that affected her mobility, she faced a lifetime of challenges—from intensive physiotherapy as a child to being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2022. Along the way, she also navigated severe autism, trauma, and life-altering setbacks that could have stopped her in her tracks. But instead, she turned to the outdoors. In this episode, Dee shares how thru-hiking the South West Coast Path became the turning point that changed everything. With no home, no job, and facing immense personal struggles, she took a leap of faith and embarked on a 71-day journey that helped her reclaim her life. We talk about the power of movement, nature's role in healing, and why adventure should be accessible to everyone. Now, as a scientist, outdoor journalist, and founder of The Introvert Magazine, Dee is on a mission to inspire others to embrace nature, break barriers, and live life on their own terms. Despite being well-intentioned, the voice chattering in our ears about how risky asking for that promotion can be or the thousands of ways things can go south if we start our own thing is doing a disservice to us. Doubt and overthinking think they are protecting us, but without a doubt, they are keeping us stuck. In this episode, I'm thrilled to be joined by The Happiness Hussy, Christy Holt, to talk about finding happiness, overcoming self-sabotage, parenting, and more. Christy is a Speaker, Podcaster, Author, and Adventure Guide on a mission to help women free themselves from self-doubt and, using Christy's Spiral Stopper Method, stop reacting, take control of their emotions, and build confidence and self-love. She authored "Unstuck (for women)," her debut book soon to be followed by "Unstuck (for relationships)," and hosts the Create Your Happy podcast. Throughout this episode, Christy shares tips and advice on overcoming self-sabotage and developing a more intentional living, setting boundaries for ourselves and others, and letting go of past regrets. She also talks about her past, how she got out of the place her self-doubt had built for her, the link between inner happiness and self-awareness, and how she came up with “The Spiral Stopper Method” that has helped hundreds of people take their lives to a better place.Additionally, you'll hear Christy's thoughts on relationships, parenting, personal growth, and much more.Tune in to Episode 140 and learn why Christy is convinced happiness is an inside job and that you already have everything you need to live your best life.In This Episode, You Will Learn:About Christy's first steps in overcoming self-sabotage (2:40)Does being a mother get easier with time? This week I welcome my friend Lara Worm of Bivouac Ciderworks to the podcast for a conversation about community and design. Lara and I are currently collaborating on the design of “Bivouac 2.0,” or Bivouac Adventure Lodge, a beautiful gathering space for cider tasting–and much more–in the North Park neighborhood of San Diego. This episode (and future ones to come) will give you a look inside the design process in the hospitality space, from beginning to end. This project is a great example of how we as designers can help bring the dreams and visions of our clients to life through the addition of little, meaningful details. It is also an example of one of my collaborations with a female business owner, which carries a different vibe and flow. I can't wait to share more about this project with you!About LaraLara Worm, co-founder, CEO, and self-described “Adventure Guide” of Bivouac Ciderworks, has never followed a traditional path. Lara is a native San Diegan raised in her family's food and beverage business, however, she wandered “off trail” – as per usual – and went on to pursue a career as a homicide prosecutor in Washington, D.C. After a decade on the East Coast, Lara returned to San Diego and found herself back in the world of hospitality. As an ardent world traveler and adventurous foodie, Lara was first introduced to cider during stints living in Australia and England. Bivouac Ciderworks takes that inspiration from cider culture around the world, but brings a west coast irreverence and style to the traditional drink.A lifelong hiker and outdoor adventurer, and outspoken feminist, Lara somehow found a way to combine her passion for the outdoors, fine food and drink, and social justice, in crafting Bivouac's lifestyle brand and craft ciders. Lara embraces her adventure by road tripping across the country with Jamie, rock climbing with her dog Cooper, and plotting her eventual move to Mexico.Featured in this episodeFeatured Tarot deck: Rider-Waite Colman Smith TarotConnect with LaraWebsiteBivouac on InstagramBivouac Adventure Lodge on InstagramLara on InstagramAre you an interior designer or are you interested in Holistic Interior Design? Ana and Eric welcome Discover Wisconsin producer Jessica Voukoun into The Cabin to share some details involving outdoor fun in Calumet County, which is tucked along the eastern shore of Lake Winnebago. Since the Interstates swing people well to the west or east of the county, many travelers accidentally bypass the area - but here are some great reasons to follow the roads into Calumet County - like U.S. 10, U.S. 151, or Highways 32 and 57 - and dive into all that awaits here. The focus is the outdoors, with High Cliff State Park above Lake Winnebago getting the full love for its topography, views, and trails. Calumet County Park is also on Lake Winnebago further south, offering a variety of summer and winter outdoor activities, including a tubing hill and fat tire biking on groomed trails. If you're into boating, Calumet County has two marinas where you can drop anchor, including High Cliff and Stockbridge. Nature and wildlife centers offer plenty of opportunities to learn, exercise, and take in Mother Nature. We discuss the merits of Ledgeview Nature Center south of Chilton, the Brillion Nature Center near (you guessed it) Brillion, and the interestingly-named Killsnake Wildlife Area. Along with more lakes and trails, Eric, Ana, and Jessica discuss farms and orchards including Mulberry Lane Farm & Petting Zoo, Heritage Orchard, and Polly's Pumpkin Patch where you can visit, learn, enjoy, and take home some of nature's best offerings. You can also enjoy motocross and ATV riding at Gravity Park USA or Farm Country ATV Park, or kick back and enjoy a flick under the stars at the Chilton Twilight Outdoor Theater. We cap it off with a discussion about the new and amazing Ariens Nordic Center, checking in with GM Sean Becker to find out all it has to offer in all seasons. Hello everyone, this is part 5 in the MFS series “Amazing Women Doing Amazing Things”. I came across my guest today by reading an article of hers published in “Outside” magazine in November 2022, entitled, “Let Me Tell You the Truth About Being an Adventure Guide”. From that article, I learned about a course that she had taken called “National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS)”. The course lasted 89 days, and of course, I had to ask her all about it. Podcast Intro: Emily Cole, founder of Wild Within Coaching, is a Yoga Health Coach, Adventure Guide, and Digital Nomad, just to name a few things…  She believes in doing the DEEP WORK of getting centered within the self and loves guiding others to do the same. At a Live Event in January of 2022 with Cate, Emily was inspired to write a personal manifesto and has felt her purpose as a leader expand from this process. Listen in as Emily and Cate explore how her personal manifesto has led them to find her own truth, how it has been useful in coaching, and how it may evolve in the future.  This conversation will leave you inspired by how much can be discovered when we insource our wisdom vs. outsource! What you'll get out of tuning in: How live events are so transformative.  Why a personal manifesto is so useful for continued growth. How to stay integrity. Why publish your convictions. How to use a manifesto in decision making. [42:10]: Negative vs. positive stressors. Quotes: “It's noticing what you really actually care about and then from care it goes to conviction.  What do you have a conviction about? And from conviction, you can see how deep it goes.” “The more we understand our manifestos or what exactly are our beliefs we deeply care about, it can serve as a guiding light for the direction in the next chapter of our life.” “You want to use your manifesto to solve problems in your future based on things you've learned in your past.”  “It's easy to go to events.  It's hard to build relationships on the follow-through side.” “If you are mad about something, that's a perfect time.  What do you do when you are angry?  What a great time to block some time for a manifesto!” Guest Bio: Emily Cole As the founder of Wild Within Coaching, Emily believes in, supports, and models going deep within ourselves for a wild journey. With a decade of wilderness guiding experience, she knows intimately the transformative power of adventure and how good it feels to be centered in oneself. Through coaching, she has seen the same process of people coming into their own guidance, wisdom, and power and loves supporting and guiding these exciting journeys too.

This episode of the Tell Us Something podcast was recorded live in person in front of a sold-out crowd at The Wilma in Missoula, MT. Four storytellers share their true personal stories live without notes on the theme “Stone Soup”. Four storytellers share their true personal stories live without notes on the theme “Stone Soup”. A young woman visits New York City with her Papa, a Polish track athlete reflects on defecting from Poland in the 1980s, A woman runs out of gas in front of Costco on a busy Missoula street and an adventure guide with a dying cell phone, no water, and only a thin poncho is charged by a wild boar and end up drinking his own urine before his dramatic rescue. Our podcast today was recorded in front of a live audience on March 30, 2022, at The Wilma in Missoula, MT. 8 storytellers shared their true personal stories on the theme “Stone Soup”. Today we hear from 4 of those storytellers. Our first story comes to us from Rachel Bemis. Rachel Bemis visits New York City with her Papa, who sleeps through much of the trip. She sees her Top Chef favorite and yells out the tour bus window, “I’m not your b*tch, b*tch!” at him and no one reacts. Rachel calls her story Sleepy New York” or “An Adventure with Papa”. Rachel Bemis marks her 20th year in Montana! She is a 4th-grade teacher in the Bitterroot Valley where 1/3 of her students tower over her. She shares her home with her best friend of 21 years and 5-year-old St Bernard Lorelai. She spends her free time binging Gilmore Girls, The Great British Baking Show, 90-Day Fiancé, or any trashy reality show she can stomach. You can find her getting Biga pizza takeout, walking with friends, at the library, or at her favorite consignment shop. She loves Discussing any book except science fiction with her monthly book club. Our next storyteller is Darius Janczewski (Yonchevsky) Darius reflects on defecting from Poland in the 1980s and realizes that most things we remember are about departures. Darius calls his story “Departures”. Darius Janczewski is an author, graphic designer, runner, and refugee who arrived in the United States in 1984 and in Missoula in 1999. Darius deserted from the Polish communist army in 1984 when he represented his country as a runner in Italy. He was preparing for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics when he decided to defect, not knowing that the Olympiad would be boycotted by most of the communist countries, including Poland. Darius is a published author and is currently working on his collection of short stories titled Minotaur or the Art of Running. Learn more about Darius and see examples of his work at dariuszjanczewski.com. In our next story, Katrina Farnum runs out of gas in front of Costco on a busy Missoula street and is helped by strangers. She pays it forward when she sees a fellow human in need. Katrina calls her story “When Push Comes To Shove”. Katrina Farnum is a local dirt-loving herbalist, mother, and educator. She is the developer and owner of Garden Mother, a holistic herb shop and dispensary with locations in Missoula and Kalispell.  Katrina is passionate about healthy food, community, and continual self-improvement. She spends much of her time creating and engineering things to help others live better lives. Her spirit animal is the Incredible Hulk and her alter ego is a mixture of Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Butch Cassidy (played by Paul Newman). Katrina leads the team of herbalists and educators with an emphasis on nutrition over at Garden M+*other Herbs. Learn more about her work at gardenmotherherbs.com Bringing us home in this episode of the Tell Us Something podcast, Jeff Ducklow finds himself with a dying cell phone, no water, and only a thin poncho, He is charged by a wild boar and more before his dramatic rescue.- Jeff calls his story “Lost in Kauai”. Jeff Duck-low is no stranger to adventure. With Portuguese blood coursing through his veins, he inherited all of the wanderlust of his Mediterranean forebears, however, unfortunately, without the accompanying and essential navigational acumen. Simply put, Jeff was born without a sense of direction, so naturally, he chose to become a professional Adventure Guide, guiding men, women, and children oblivious to his affliction, on hikes over mountain passes, rafting down raging rivers, and leading sea kayaking adventures in Alaska in whale infested waters, at times in heavy fog.  He is often quoted as saying, “Is it really an adventure if getting back is a certainty?”Having almost died unnecessarily on numerous occasions, Jeff is now a full-time massage therapist in Missoula who rides his unicycle to work in order to keep an element of danger in his day.  He still loves the outdoors and enjoys recounting his exploits to anyone willing to listen.
