DJ Mag's Top 100 poll is analysed, the CDJ3000 is reviewed and tech house royalty Nathan Coles is the first guest at the AudioTapas bar.
Avenue Red welcomes Prakash, an experienced DJ and producer from the Spanish island of Gran Canaria, one of the Canary Islands about 150 kilometres off the northwestern coast of Africa. Prakash is a very knowledgeable guy and has been collecting music and spinning for almost 15 years, along the way releasing stacks of masterful mixtapes and playing at some interesting gigs internationally, as well as at home. He also turned his hand to music production and running his own vinyl label, Travellin Music, where he has featured on the only release to date with a remix from Vancouver tech house legend Jay Tripwire. Prakash is a true cross-genre DJ, but it's clear to see his strong focus on the 90's/early 2000's tech house sounds from the origin of the genre. He lists among his Music idols: Craig Richards, Terry Francis, Steve Bug, Mike Huckaby, ZIP, Move D, Kerri Chandler, Nathan Coles, Bushwacka! and Silverlining AKA Asad Rizvi. That list makes for a tidy aperitif for what's in store in this presentation, his glowing CD-length mix for Avenue Red. "I'm Prakash from Gran Canaria. I have been sharing my music taste since 2006 when I was studying at Loughborough University in England, UK and always try to squeeze music from various genres into my sets to keep things spicy and interesting. I insisted on adding a tracklist for the trainspotters, so find it below! :)" Prakash Peswani, August 2020 https://soundcloud.com/prakashmusic ===== 01 J. - Zenith // YYK no label (2017) 02 Deenamic - First Inversion // Freebeat (2019) 03 Boo Williams - Day And Night // Residual Recordings (1998) 04 Leo Pol - You're Maybe The One // IILE (2019) 05 Donnie Tempo - TCB // Moreaboutmusic (2012) 06 Gideon & Rob H - Don't Hold Back // Loaded Records (2000) 07 EDMX - The Vigilante // Ride The Gyroscope (2016) 08 Giammarco Orsini - Italia 90 // Partisan (2019) 09 Housey Doingz - Ride // Pagan (1997) 10 Qnete - Sand Progression // X-Kalay (2019) 11 Jaz - Beatboxin' // Jump Recordings (2000) 12 Silverlining - Easy Living // Eukahouse (1997) 13 Eddie Richards - House // End Recordings (2001) 14 Antonelli - The Source Of Design // Italic (1999) 15 Archie Hamilton Feat. Amid this very busy winter schedule of releases, Avenue Red continues with a fresh upfront mix of slamming oldskool Tech House flavours. Many thanks to Sam Funke from Paris, France for this killer mix to show the kids what real, genuine Tech House was all about back in it's golden era of 90's to early 00's, where the sub-genre name was used to describe this unique fusion of Techno & House music stylings. Ignore all subsequent widespread abuses of this genre term though, none of which matter anyhow because those of us in the know cannot be fooled! "I am a cosmic vinyl addict from Paris bringing the vibe and the groove on the dancefloor of underground warehouse parties. I am a Techno, Electro and Breakbeat head at the service of galaxy. Here I give a mix of old stuff from my record collection, mainly Tech House from UK 1990's with stuff from Terry Francis, Nathan Coles, Craig Richards, Eddie Richards etc. Have fun!" Sometimes I like to experiment and really go off the deep end with the music. I'll play around with some tech house and some techno but what is tech house one might ask? Tech house is a subgenre of house music that mixes elements of techno with house. The term tech house developed as a shorthand record store name for a category of electronic dance music that combined musical aspects of techno, such as "rugged basslines" and "steely beats," with the harmonies and grooves of progressive house. The music originally had a clean and minimal production style that was associated with techno from Detroit and the UK. In the mid to late 1990s a scene developed in England around club nights such as The Drop run by Mr.C & Plink Plonk, Heart & Soul, and Wiggle run by Terry Francis and Nathan Coles. Other DJs and artists associated with the sound at that time included Charles Webster, Bushwacka!, Dave Angel, Herbert, Funk D'Void, Ian O'Brien, Derrick Carter, and Stacey Pullen. By the late 90's London nightclub The End, owned by the former Shamen rapper Richard West (Mr C) and Layo Paskin, was considered the home of tech house in the UK. As a mixing style, tech-house often brings together deep or minimal techno music, the soulful and jazzy end of house, some minimal techno and microhouse (especially with a soulful feel, such as Luomo’s music), and very often some dub elements. There is some overlap with progressive house, which too can contain deep, soulful, dub, and techno elements; this is especially true since the turn of the millennium, as progressive-house mixes have themselves often become deeper and sometimes more minimal. However, the typical progressive-house mix has more energy than tech-house, which tends to have a more “laid-back” feel. Tech-house fans tend to appreciate subtlety, as well as the “middle ground” that adds a “splash of color to steel techno beats” and eschews the “banging” of house music for intricate rhythms. This one may be a bit different from what your use to hearing from me, but try to get into and enjoy it for what it is. Peace and love family. 1. Recuerdo (Original Mix) - Christian Vinci 2. Another month, another Metroline Limited podcast. February 2010 welcomes Franco Bianco from Dilek Records with a LIVE and a DJ set recorded in Cyprus in 2009. Born in Buenos Aires, Franco Bianco grew up having a lot of contact with the music, making mix tapes for the breaks in the school and sharing a lot of young experiences. Playing vinyl since 1998, he participates in many events in the biggest clubs and radio stations of his natal city. In 2004, he presents himself in one of the most important festivals of Argentina: the Personal Festa, sharing line ups with artists like: Pet Shop Boys, Morrisey, Death in Vegas and Gustavo Ceratti among others Actually he is producing releases, remixes and collaborates with labels such as Multivitamins, Hypercolour, and in the past years, he released on Unfoundsound, Meerestief and Lessizmore. One of the latest Fabric compilations, (the fabric 38, mixed by M.A.N.D.Y) includes his track: Noches de Superaciona as intro. The last three years have been very intense, giving him a new start in his career, with successful releases which were remixed by artists such as Marek Hemmann, Tony Rohr, Bloody Mary, Sarah Goldfarb, Federico Molinari, Seuil and Someone Else. In 2007 he had a huge tour which began in Australia, passed by Egypt, and went through 13 countries. With a total of 32 Live presentations over 4 months, where he shared line ups with Steve Bug, Tiefschwarz, Matthew Johnson, Dominik Eulberg, Marco Carola, and many many more. A new tour was scheduled for 2008 in Europe and Central America, to support the Mola vinyl and Origenes EP. This tour was again a huge experience where he also had the chance to play in new places, such as Lithuania, Poland, Colombia, Dominican Republic and last but not least, the Argentinean edition of the Creamfields Buenos Aires, one of the biggest festivals around the globe. 2008 saw also coming his first EP on Dilek Records, Mola (with remixes of Tony Rohr and Bloody Mary), and it was a total success, still played by Laurent Garnier, Anderson Noise, Ivan Smagghe, Frankie, Andre Crom, Nathan Coles, Tim Xavier, Brothers Vibe, Loco Dice and many others. During 2009, he had many gigs (like the ones in Denmark, Spain, Cyprus, Russia, Switzerland, Sweden, Germany and Mexico), and he started another tour to support the Planchete Lateral EP that had enormous amounts of feedbacks and was already sold out few days after the release date. He also worked a lot in his vinyl label Dilek Records, where we can find artists like Pier Bucci, Alexi Delano and Mathias Schaffnauser amongst others artists of his digital sub label Darek Recordings. At the end of this year, he will go back to Argentina to start another South American tour, so be sure to keep an eye on him.
