The Pretenders, The The, Modest Mouse, The Cribs, Electronic og selvfølgelig The Smiths. This episode uncovers the incredible, unlikely story of how the Pet Shop Boys' synth-pop hit, "Go West," was adopted by the passionate Napoli tifosi to become the soundtrack to the club's spectacular phoenix-from-the-ashes revival. We explore why the song's themes of unity and hope resonate so profoundly with the resilient spirit of Naples, making "going west" a metaphor for the team's ascent to European football's pinnacle. We dive into the electrifying pre-match ritual at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, where the iconic melody transforms 50,000 fans into the team's thunderous twelfth man, solidifying the song's legacy as one of football's most organic and powerful anthems. Madonna, The Bangles, Paul Simon, Pet Shop Boys, Cliff Richard og The Pretenders. Playliste: The Pretenders - Don't get me wrong Pet Shop Boys - Suburbia Midnight Star - Midas touch Berlin - Take my breath away Paul Simon - You can call me Al Madonna - True blue The Bangles - Walk like an Egyptian Cliff Richard and Sarah Brightman - All I ask of you Status Quo - In the army now Nick Berry - Every loser wins

Fáilte ar ais chuig eagrán nua de Ar An Lá Seo ar an 10ú lá de mí Iúil, liomsa Lauren Ní Loingsigh. I 1981 bhí timpeall 3,500 fear bus chun a bheith ar an dól. I 1987 bhí a lán daoine ag déanamh na scrúdaithe an bhliain seo agus de bharr sin cheap siad go mbeadh na torthaí ag teach amach déanach. I 1971 ní rinne siad tástáil ar an bhainne nó níor thóg siad an meáchan sna uachtarlainn sa chontae. I 1987 bhí níos mó ná 300 post nua sa tionscal seirbhíse sa tSionainn. Sin The Pet Shop Boys le It's A Sin – an t-amhrán is mó ar an lá seo I 1987 Ag lean ar aghaidh le nuacht cheoil ar an lá seo I 1989 chúisigh David F Pearsall a raibh aois 18 ó Manchain de bharr gur ghoid sé giotár de Richie Sambora de Bon Jovi ag ceolchoirm. I 2012 thug An Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Slash ó Guns N' Roses réalta ar an Hollywood Walk of Fame. Dúirt Charlie Sheen go raibh sé oiriúnach go mbeadh réalta aige ar an tsráid go mbeadh Axl Rose ag coladh air I gceann tamall. Agus ar deireadh breithlá daoine cáiliúla ar an lá seo rugadh amhránaí Jason Orange sa Bhreatain I 1970 agus rugadh amhránaí Imelda May in Éirinn ar an lá seo I 1974 agus seo chuid de amhrán. Beidh mé ar ais libh amárach le heagrán nua de Ar An Lá Seo. Welcome back to another edition of Ar An Lá Seo on the 10th of July, with me Lauren Ní Loingsigh 1981: 3,500 busmen were to face dole. 1987: record exam rush was to leave results a little late. 1971: Milk wasnt tested or weighed at clare creameries. 1987: there was a 300 job service industry breakthrough for shannon. That was The Pet Shop Boys with It's A Sin – the biggest song on this day in 1987 Onto music news on this day In 1989 David F Pearsall age 18 from Manchester, New Jersey was charged with theft after stealing a guitar at a concert in Riverfront Park belonging to Richie Sambora of Bon Jovi. 2012 The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce honoured Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Master of ceremonies at the event actor Charlie Sheen commented, "It seems quite fitting that Slash is getting a star on the very street Axl Rose will one day be sleeping on." And finally celebrity birthdays on this day – singer Jason Orange was born in the UK in 1970 and singer Imelda May was born in Ireland on this day in 1974 and this is one of her songs. I'll be back with you tomorrow with another edition of Ar An Lá Seo.

Sullivan also explains his adoration of Pet Shop Boys, and why “Being Boring” is their greatest song. It's Gay Pride (in America)! To commemorate iconic homosexual musician George Michael in the week of what would have been his 62nd birthday, and for our fifth annual Pride episode in the last week of Pride MONTH, Matt takes a look at the enduring cultural impact of George Michael's song Father Figure, and the idea that, as eminent American producer, Dick Clark once put it “Music is the soundtrack of your life.” And from there, Matt talks about how George Michael's music helped him as a small boy to re-discover the fun of pop music, and maybe even life, after the sudden death of his father. It's an episode about a whole lot of things, it runs a slim, almost 27 minutes (a commute!), and it includes Liza Minnelli, Stephen Sondheim, and The Pet Shop Boys in a small but reassuring way.Subscribe to our substack hereFollow us on Instagram hereFollow Matt Phillp hereFollow Erin Hosier hereFollow Elizabeth Thompson here This is a public episode.
