David Waldman is sick and tired of stupid, lazy criminals and is forced into giving free, thus non-lawyerly, advice to folks like Nevada Representative Jeff Fortenberry who predicted he would be indicted, as he had committed indictable acts, and was aware that the FBI had found out about them. Guest: Rosa Saba, Business Reporter at The Star With vaccine mandates now being enforced in many establishments, workplace mandates are now proliferating across many businesses as they try to return to normal. This raises questions about employer and workers rights if an employee chooses to remain unvaccinated. It's something we are seeing play out on large stages, like the NBA, where star player Kyrie Irving has been told to stay away from his team until he decides to get vaccinated. But we are seeing it all across North America, as health care workers and police officers and others choose to remain unvaccinated. In Canada, the question is, can people be fired with cause? Do accommodations need to made? Is the employee eligible for Employment Insurance? These are all questions that need to be worked through and dealt with by all kinds of organizations and their personnel.
Some states and territories are surging ahead with COVID-19 vaccinations with the ACT and NSW now surpassing 90% first dose, but other jurisdictions including WA, QLD and the NT are falling behind on just over 70% first dose vaccination rates. Despite the slow uptake in some communities, restrictions are continuing to ease across much of the country which has many people asking, how dangerous is it for those of us who are fully vaccinated to mingle with those who aren't? The Quicky speaks to a political sociologist and an expert epidemiologist to find out how much of a health or even psychological risk people who aren't vaccinated pose to others in the community. Monday is the deadline for Washington state employees, healthcare and long-term care workers and those working in the education field to be fully vaccinated. Those who aren't could be out of a job by day's end. Some of the state employees who face termination got exemptions, but not a workplace accommodation so they could stay on the payroll.
Epidemiologist Professor Michael Baker told Checkpoint his biggest concern the spread of Delta is an "outbreak of the unvaccinated". "The unvaccinated are increasingly Māori and Pacific people. So we do run the risk of this becoming a very unequal outbreak, and I think that's a really critical factor that government needs to look at, at the moment." He also said a level 4 lockdown may still be necessary, depending on the outbreak's movement.

You can be denied the opportunity to go to a restaurant, a movie, even a ball game unless you are vaccinated. Last Friday marked the deadline for the majority of Veterans Affairs Department employees to complete their vaccinations against COVID-19. But as of today, more than 45,000 employees have yet to demonstrate that they've received the shots. The good news is that 88% of the VA workforce has been vaccinated, but the remaining 12% must submit documentation of their vaccinations by October 18th or request religious or medical accommodations. Once the deadline passes, VA will begin to discipline unvaccinated staff. But what will that discipline look like? How long will it last? And more importantly, will it help motivate hesitant employees to get their shots? GovExec Senior Correspondent Eric Katz joins the show to discuss his reporting on the subject and much more.

Dave Rubin of The Rubin Report shares a frightening clip from public health expert Dr. Leana Wen's appearance on CNN. She proposes a new level of authoritarianism to force the unvaccinated to get the jab. She suggests that Joe Biden make the COVID vaccine mandatory for plane, train, and bus travel. If her plans for unvaccinated discrimination were implemented, it could create a type of vaccine apartheid in the U.S. She even explicitly states that the unvaccinated should be prevented from seeing their family until they get proof of vaccination.
