Phil Eaglesham in conversation with David Eastaugh The band was formed in 1987 by Richie Dempsey, Phil Eaglesham, Mofungo Diggs, Steven MacDougall, and Andy MacDonald (aka "Dr. Technology". The band wore asbestos firewear, gas masks, dubious ethnic shirts and balaclavas on stage, and blossomed despite depressing support slots with indie establishment acts such as Happy Mondays, The Wonderstuff and The Shamen. Their debut album, Five Fingers, Four Thingers, a Thumb, a Facelift and a New Identity followed in 1989.

This episode brings to a close our periodic investigations of the Steven Wilson-curated 'Intrigue' compilation. Covering progressive sounds in UK alternative/post-punk music from 1979-89, 'Intrigue' nails its intention, proving that, while traditional prog rock may have waned in the '80s, that spirit of adventure and invention remained alive through the work of dozens and dozens of UK music-makers in this time period. This episode focuses on Kate Bush, Dif Juz, Cardiacs, Dead Can Dance, SLAB!, Momus, No-man and a host of others. Saffron, born Samantha Marie Sprackling on June 3, 1968, in Lagos, Nigeria, is a British singer and actress best known as the lead vocalist of the band Republica. Raised in the UK, she initially pursued a career in musical theatre before transitioning to the music industry. Saffron first gained attention in the late 1980s and early 1990s as a backing vocalist and dancer for the dance group N-Joi and as a member of the band The Shamen. However, her breakthrough came in 1994 when she joined Republica, a band that blended alternative rock with electronic dance music. The group achieved significant success with their self-titled debut album in 1996, particularly with the hit singles "Ready to Go" and "Drop Dead Gorgeous," which became iconic tracks of the 90s. Saffron's distinctive voice and vibrant stage persona were key to the band's appeal, making her a recognizable figure in the Britpop and electronic rock scenes of the time. After Republica disbanded in the early 2000s, Saffron pursued various solo projects and collaborations, and the band eventually reformed in 2008, continuing to perform and release new music. To watch on YouTube Singer Saffron, From Lagos to London Stage to N-Joi to Republica & Drop D-ad Gorgeous Chart successhttps://youtu.be/QuXYaHBlR1A Hosted on Acast. Back in September 1993, there was a free compilation cassette tape which came along with M8 Magazine called The Scottish Dance Awards. The tape featured tracks from the best Scottish dance bands at the time from the likes of M.R.X, The Rhythmic State, The Shamen and so on. The pick of the bunch was Q-Tex - Digital Bells, another master piece from that man Scott Brown, which of course samples the famous track "Tubular Bells" by Mike Oldfield, famously used in the horror movie The Exorcist. Sadly, Digital Bells never seen the light of day, it was only ever featured on the cassette tape and the story goes along the lines of Scott Brown accidentally recorded over the original DAT tape, so was never released. Using the powers of SM, I reached out to see if anyone had this tape and lo & behold, one of my friends, Davie Niven, had a prime working tape, some man Davie. I only ever had a crappy 128k MP3, so the plan was to get a good WAV to use on my Podcast / Dj sets. After listening to the track a good few times, after I had tweaked it a bit on Ableton, I thought I would have a go at doing my own version / remake. So here it is, the only thing I've sampled from the tape is the bells riff, which is genius from Scott Brown, the rest I have re-created from scratch and threw in a couple of lines from the movie. Hopefully, I've done it some justice, enjoy. Tony Oldskool.

Despite being banned from the BBC's airways in the UK at the time, this didn't stop it being enormously successful and it ended up topping the UK's music charts for 4 weeks in September 1992. While we're not condoning taking drugs, the line “Though very much maligned and misunderstood, E's vibe up the place like no other man could” fits so well with the rhetoric behind e-gravel bikes that it was too good not to use. Mr. C is a true icon of the electronic music scene. As frontman for The Shamen, his cheeky persona and mischievous lyrics propelled the band to chart topping glory with the anthemic 'Ebeneezer Goode.' A true devotee of the underground, he co-founded legendary London nightclub The End which regularly hosted nights from the likes of Laurent Garnier, Andy C, Steve Lawler and Sven Väth. Having recently scaled back his involvement with his wildly successful Superfreq brand of parties, he now shifts his focus to self-expression as an artist, eager to explore how emerging technology can elevate his DJ performances to even greater heights.FOLLOW US Instagram: @houseculturenetSpotify: House Culture - Perfect PlaylistYouTube: @houseculturenet|| Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/houseculture. Also, viel Spaß und so! _______________________________________ (00:00) Cold Opener, Intro & Shamen von Technik-Guess (04:38) Entoder Weder (26:54) Enter The Void (1:05:07) Space Necronomicon (1:28:10) Hundreds Of Beavers (1:42:43) The Holy Mountain (2:10:34) Time Bandits (2:29:45) Bad Boy Bubby (2:59:39) Spoilerpart zu Enter The Void _______________________________________ Hier kannst du uns überall finden: iTunes/Apple Podcasts: https://apple.co/2TgWvY3 Spotify: https://spoti.fi/34jfB68 YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/JahierFilmePodcast RSS-Feed: https://jahierfilme.podcaster.de/ Instagram: @jahierfilme Twitter: @jahierfilme Linktree: https://linktr.ee/jahierfilme _______________________________________ Alle unsere Filme im Überblick: https://letterboxd.com/jahierfilme/lists/

Welcome to our Christmas Pod (for the second time). It's 1988 and behind the glorious Simon Bisley cover we're looking at a whole bunch of Festive Feechas, once we're done gatekeeping the work of Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin. Uriah Heep are playing a Christmas festival, there's some surprising news about Marillion and we explore the connection between mystical unicorns and Gary Moore. Most of the Korrespondents in this issue are writing in to defend(er) Manowar, while we find ourselves inexplicably preoccupied by an advert for FIST. Did you ever FIST? Let us know! We get some great quotes- sorry, Kwotes and pics of the year, and recap some of the news stories we've covered in the course of the podcast. In addition we highlight some of our Christmas faves, not to mention some of the great electronic acts of the early 90s like The Shamen, the KLF and Jive Bunny. (During the recording of this episode, one of the cats jumped up on the keyboard, somehow switched it on and started playing the piano in a sort of free jazz, Keith Tippett style. Unfortunately our microphones completely failed to pick up the audio, but if you wonder why we start asking her if she wants to play any more, that's the reason) Recorded 29th November 2023 Check out pics from the issue on our Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/podwithmadness/ YouTube playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6jGszBq8BFGY6l8IEsPBIp27FkyQfnck&si=r5ArJdQVNx3c-KU9 Tip us on ko-fi: https://ko-fi.com/podwithmadness CAN I POD WITH MADNESS THEME by Oliver Gardiner @revilorenidrag #Podcast #Metal #HeavyMetal #Kerrang #80s #MetalHammer #ClassicRock #motleycrue #Marillion #killerdwarfs #klf #shamen #jivebunny #garymoore #manowar #Aerosmith #led zeppelin #Christmas

In episode #132 of The XS Noize Podcast, Mark Millar meets Colin Angus for his first AI interview about his new band “Moship.” The Shamans originator discusses his new project via AIngus, Moships AI aide. Moship is an electronic music duo consisting of Colin Angus and Digital Habitat. The duo released their first track, ‘A2E ft Michael Horowitz', on the 80th anniversary of Bicycle Day (the original Lab Leak), when acid godfather Dr Albert Hofmann wobbled home on two wheels, experiencing the full spectrum of psychedelic effects from the nascent LSD-25 he had recently synthesized and imbibed. Colin Angus and Digital Habitat are cohorts with unique backgrounds and influences, creating a sound blend of psychedelia, house, ambient, and dub elements. Digital Habitat released various nuggets experimenting with the above musical vibes from London and a northern coastal outpost. Colin is a Scots musician, lyrical cultivator, entheogen advocate & (m)adventurer. Colin was in The Shamen, who made psychedelic music from the mid-80s to the end of the 20th century & had a chart hit with Terence McKenna. Colin and Digital Habitat linked up at a performance by Violetta@St Pancras Old Church then began musing together remotely before initiating Moship during the dark daze of the plandemonic/ crockdown era. Michael Horowitz is an American writer, editor and psychedelic historian. He co-founded the world's first psychoactive drug library, co-edited collections of Aldous Huxley (Moksha), Timothy Leary (Chaos & Cyber Culture) and women's drug literature (Sisters of the Extreme), and was Leary's archivist and bibliographer. The lyrics to A2E are an extended mix of a talk he gave at the World Psychedelic Forum in Basel in 2006, honouring LSD discoverer Albert Hofmann. On today's episode I spoke to someone who has truly done it all: Richard West, aka Mr. C, an MC, rapper, DJ, producer, label manager and nightclub owner, who started out in London's club scene in the early 1980s, got involved in acid house, joined The Shamen and became a pop star, and then went back to the underground, running the Plink Plonk and Superfreq labels, and also London club The End. He brings tales of acid house, pop madness and going underground.
It's Autumn 1992 and R.E.M. are suddenly one of the biggest bands on the planet, riding the crest of a wave after the global success of their seventh studio LP - The wonderful 'Out of Time.' How do you follow that and create an album that: a) sounds radically different to anything you've produced before, is b) critically lauded and, c) every bit as successful commercially as its predeccessor? The answer is that you come up with 'Automatic For The People' - an astonishing record that has stood the test of time and given joy to millions of people in all four corners of the world, as well as saving lives through the incredible words and music within. We talk about how the record was formulated, the writing and recording process, how they came up with the name, and artwork, as well as disecting every track musically and lyrically. Find out what we thought of the record, although there's a big clue in the fact that revisiting it some 30 years on lead us to ask the question, does it have the best 3 closing tracks of any LP ever made? Also, what would the album score out of 20 and could it dislodge The Cure from the coveted Memorabilia rating chart, currently at No.1 with a score of 18.5 for the 1989 masterpiece, Disintegration. Our regular features, are all in attendance, with October 1992 getting the memorablia podcast treatment in terms of looking at the UK single and album charts, what was playing at the cinema, airing on our TV screens and happening in the news. We discovered a bit of a disparity between what was in the top twenty in terms of singles and albums featuring artists such as Neds Atomic Dustbin, Stereo MC's, Manic Street Preachers, Prince, Lionel Richie, The Shamen, EMF, Mike Oldfield, Extreme, and Crowded House. For our Top 3's this week, we went with the top 3 songs about sleep or dreaming. R.E.M. had to feature in one of those Top 3's, but listen in to find out which song and who chose it for their list! There's an old-school touch to ISAbella's sound. Breakbeats, rolling tech house, progressive house and trance pepper both her studio mixes and her debut EP, transporting listeners to a place of peak '90s indulgence. It's no wonder, then, that vintage rave sounds are a signature tenet of MARICAS, the club night and label that she helped start in 2018. Her love for the '90s is tangible on her RA Podcast, an emotional journey across breakbeat house, trancey techno and funky electro. First-rate throwbacks such as Canyon's "Move" and "Lightspan Soundwave" by The Shamen exude a carefree euphoria, while heavier cuts like Desert's "Moods (Club Mix)'' intensify the feeling of rapture. Even the contemporary releases, like Bashkka's excellent "C-quence Of Calamities," feel rooted in nostalgia. MARICAS mixes are usually energetic from the get-go, but ISAbella starts out nice and relaxed this time around. The mix's most striking element is how personal each track feels—a reflection of her intimate relationship with these records. Each one evokes a special poignancy and though these ephemeral selections were largely improvised, ISAbella believes they "show what's going on lately and what's going on forever." @bellasalmonella Read more at https://ra.co/podcast/875

Welcome to 1993. Autumn, to be exact. And how was it all looking?Well, it wasn't really baggy like 1990, or rave-y like 1991, but it wasn't Britpoppy like 1995. It was all a bit…well, who knows? Can we say, a bit of a pop hinterland? And were there any clues across our ever reliant pop culture landscape for how ‘93 had shaped up? Well in a year that saw the launch of two modern icons - the Vauxhall Corsa and QVC - actually, perhaps, we'll come back to them later. Not!Back to the hinterland then. We had the ever reliant and still relatively imperial Neil and Chris, resplendent in their dayglo uniforms marching to the Village People in Moscow. Or perhaps your CD single (with 6 extra dance mixes) was celebrating the glorious invasion of Europop of Culture Beat, 2 Unlimited and Haddaway. Or maybe you were, frankly too cool for school and had bunked off to the shimmering r'n'b from SWV, Janet and Eternal. And where was Indie? What even was indie in 1993?One thing is for certain, your musical tribe in 1993 was considerably, undeniably, very untribal. But isn't waiting for the Next Big Thing - and spotting the red herrings along the way - so terribly exciting? So if it's autumn ‘93, it's definitely time for NOW That's What I Call Music 26! And joining us for this excursion back 30 (!) years, none other than author and chief rock & pop critic for The Times Will Hodgkinson. Will selects his highlights from the wonderfully packaged 40 Top Chart Hits as well exploring the wider pop culture landscape of 1993. Along the way, we discover Will's inspiration for his, quite frankly wonderful exploration of 1970's pop ‘In Perfect Harmony' and how 1973 and 1993 really had a lot more in common than you may think. We also take excursions into some of 1993's other memorable musical moments, courtesy of Bjork, London's eclectic club scene and (unashamedly) Bowie's Buddha of Suburbia (with a real cameo from Will, no less!)Expect starring (and a few understudy) roles from Meat Loaf, The Shamen, Lawrence from Denim, Stakka Bo (only a bit Stereo MCs), Crustys, Frank Farian, Hacky sacks(!) and some illicit colour photocopying - you will be shocked! All of this and much, much more! And find out why the Spin Doctors (amongst a few others) will not be returning our calls. Hertz are how we measure vibrations. Vibrations are used for more than just music. Some say huge monoliths were moved by using vibrations. Shamen use vibrations to visit other worlds. Here is what I could find about hertz.

Hello, it's another episode of Trve. Cvlt. Pop! for your enjoyment isn't it. Sam and Steve are still catching up with some of the latest music that has been released over the last few weeks, and cast a critical eye over the latest albums from Bjork, The Mars Volta, Lamb of God and Gabriels. Steve also went to see the big Parkway Drive/While She Sleeps/Lorna Shore triple header, there's talk of two thirds of Fever333 leaving the band (Fever111 more like, AMIRIGHT!) and we look at a pair of stonking songs stuck in our head, one a chunky riff fueled rager from hotly tipped UK metal band Urne and one big number one novelty hit from Scottish "rave" band The Shamen. It's Autumn 1992! Damn, Would I Lie To You?What an interesting time for the UK singles charts. Is it fair to say the decade was at some sort of apex point? Well, the tracklist for November's NOW, That's What I Call Music 23 album was certainly not giving us a clear a view of what the next big thing was going to be. Or was it?Whilst the start of the 90s had exploded with a colourful wave (or should that be rave?) of indie & dance, and very soon Britpop would take a steely and sneering guitar grip across the nation, 1992 almost seemed to be in a fascinating holding pattern. Not exactly the annus horribilus that some were calling it, and as always the NOW team were on hand to serve up a suitably compiled snapshot of musical delights (and Billy Ray Cyrus) for us to feast upon.Tasmin Archer, Sophie B Hawkins and Betty Boo led the way for some great female fronted pop moments, Arrested Development were providing an RnB laidback groove for the 90s, the Freddie Mercury tribute concert was still impacting across the charts and The Shamen were being, naughty, naughty, very naughty. But there was also a fair degree of retro feel to this edition of NOW. Was it the 80s (Simple Minds), 70s (ABBA) or 60s (Vanessa Paradis!)? TV advert songs - which brand of jeans were you buying? And don't even mention waistcoats! Just too funky for me...But even when things don't seem to be happening, there's always something happening. And there's no doubt that the 90s had plenty of excitement waiting around the corner!Joining me for this episode is author, visual artist and sometime musician Zoë Howe.Zoe has produced acclaimed biographies including The Slits, the Jesus & Mary Chain, Wilko Johnson, Stevie Nicks, Florence + The Machine, Lee Brilleaux and Poly Styrene and in 2021 was part of the team behind the award-winning documentary Poly Styrene: I Am A Cliché. She has made radio programmes for Absolute Radio, Resonance FM and currently presents the Rock 'n' Roll Witch show on Soho Radio. Zoë's forthcoming book Witchful Thinking (a handbook for the modern Wise Woman) is to be published by Llewellyn in May 2022. And later this year will also see her revision of the book The Art of Punk released, and the launch of The Jam 1982, a collaboration with The Jam's Rick Buckler. For decades upon decades, we as women have been conditioned that if we want to lead, if we want to be powerful, if we want to be taken seriously, we need to be strong, show less emotion, be ruthless, be less caring. Basically, we have been taught to leave our femininity behind as it is a sign of weakness and step toward being more masculine.Thankfully, we know better know, or at least we are starting to. In this episode, we go into why we stepped away from our femininity leaving behind some of our most powerful instincts, and how to connect with it.I am honoured to share this conversation I had with Carole Tetreault, shaman, Reiki master, spiritual guide, and facilitator of the Wild Feminine course. TRACKLIST: 01 - The Chemical Brothers - Leave Home 02 - Fatboy Slim - Praise You 03 - Basshead - Is There Anybody Out There? 04 - Orbital - Chime 05 - The Shamen - Move Any Mountain (Land of Oz) 06 - Deep Dish With EBTG - The Future Of The Future (Stay Gold) (Ben Watt Radio Edit) 07 - Moloko - Sing It Back (Boris Radio Edit) 08 - Moby - Go! 09 - Utah Saints - Something Good 10 - Pianoman - Blurred 11 - Armand Van Helden - You Don't Know Me (feat. Confessions X July/Aug 2003 - Hugh's shorting Lehman Bros and reveals all about his Mercedes luxury mobile office/cinema that his wife drove!Hedge Fund pirate Hugh Hendry and his co-host Chris Sweeney chronicle the inner workings of the uncorrelated and legendary Eclectica Fund The boys are using Hugh's monthly letters to clients as a basis to take the audience on a journey into what he was thinking and why he made the decisions he did, in real time. It's the financial equivalent of a gripping true crime adventure. It's also an exclusive look behind the curtain of a Hedge Fund with nothing off-limits.This week they discuss Hugh's insight into how you can be too early, why gold may be about to repeat the moves of 2003 and his love of Madonna's debut album.
