Two young entrepreneurs founded US Veg Corp and have quickly grown it into one of the biggest and hippest Vegan festivals around, drawing packed crowds in NYC, LA and points in between. We discuss this fast growing movement. Sarah Gross Feoli and Nira Paliwoda are the founders of U.S. Veg Corp. U.S. Veg Corp is an event production and marketing brand focused on the growing vegetarian and green markets. Both active members in the East and West Coasts' plant-based movements, Sarah and Nira met through a friend and immediately discovered their shared passions. The anchor of their company is the NYC Vegetarian Food Festival, a 2-day event that drew such an overwhelming number of attendees in its inaugural year that it had to turn people away. In addition to festivals in New York City, Los Angeles, and Scottsdale, U.S. Veg Corp provides offline and online opportunities throughout the year that target a passionate audience interested in a vegetarian and eco-friendly lifestyle.

In today’s episode of The Plant Trainers Podcast we talk to Dr. Chiti Parikh about gut microbiome and your health. I first met Dr, Parikh at the NYC Vegetarian Food Festival and she was talking about one of my favorite topics at the moment…poop. I mean microbiome…but poop came up! So, I knew we had to get her on the show to talk about our gut microbiome and bacteria. How to grow the good, shrink the bad and maintain the healthiest body possible. You may have heard of TMAO and Fecal Transplants, so get ready to fully understand what that’s all about. Dr. Parikh is an assistant professor at Weill Cornell Medical College where she plays an active role in medical education, research and patient care. She graduated as an AOA scholar from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and completed her internal medicine residency at New York Presbyterian – Weill Cornell Medical Center. As a board certified Internist and Diplomate of the American Board of Integrative and Holistic Medicine, she has co-founded Integrative Health at New York Presbyterian Hospital. This program provides services such as acupuncture, meditation, yoga, nutrition, psychotherapy, and biofeedback. As an Integrative Medicine practitioner Dr. Parikh focuses on a holistic approach to care that addresses not only physical, but also psychological, social, spiritual and environmental influences on health. By spending more time with patients she creates a personalized treatment plan that is tailored to the individual’s unique needs and circumstances. By combining cutting edge innovations of modern medicine with the wisdom of eastern medicine, she partners with her patients to attain optimal health and wellness.   In this episode we discuss: Parents’ influence The gut microbiome Skin microbiome Good bacteria Antibiotics Knowing if you have good or bad bacteria TMAO Growing positive and negative microbiome What affects our microbiome Probiotics 101 Foods that support a good system Fecal Transplant 3 actionable tips for a healthy microbiome   Links to things we mentioned: Dr. Chiti Parikh’s Thank you to this month’s Patrons for supporting us on : “Joe” Millie Pearson Stu Dolnick Mary Lou Fusi Don’t forget to contact us at  with your question for our Plant Trainers Facebook Lives!   We hope you enjoyed this podcast! On March 2nd and 3rd thousands of NYC Vegetarians, Vegans, and the Veg-curious came out to the NYC Vegetarian Food Festivalto sample, purchase, and learn about vegan food and lifestyle. Add in some animal rights organizations and farmed animal sanctuaries, the NYC Veg Food Fest is sure to be a hot spot for our favorite vegan super stars (every vegan is a super star to us)! That means, that in this spectacular 100th episode of Vegan Radio we hit the mother-load on interviews!!First we hear the story behind the festival from co-creator/coordinator Nira Poliwoda followed by Eddie Garza of Mercy for Animals, the benefactors of the festival's official after party. Next we feature Vegan Radio's favorite subject, farm animal sanctuaries! We hear from Gene Baur of Farm Sanctuary again and find out what he's been up to since the last episode. Theresa Sarzynskifrom For the Animals Sanctuary tells the story of mother and son bovines Grace and Benjamin; Mike Stura, long time animal saver and sanctuary volunteer tells the story of the slaughterhouse escapee goat Wilfred who he rescued from the streets of Brooklyn and brught to Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary. The next segment of interviews feature amazing powerful woman authors, bloggers, and food providers who are each working towards veganism becoming the norm in the future. Ellen Jaffe Jones author of How to Eat Vegan on $4 a Day and Victoria Moran author of Main Street Vegan were kind enough to share their light with Vegan Radio and tell us what they are up to and how they are spreading the vegan experience to others. Next Rachel Kay and Marina Guvenc tell us about their newly launched vegan fashion blog The New Luv. Then Derek Goodwin shares magic moments with the ever regal Ella Nemcova of The Regal Vegan. Our final interview is with two of Sea Shepherd International's finest (fine as in you wish it were a tv interview) Georgie Dicks of Sea Shepherd Australia and Ethan Wolf the NYC Chapter of Sea Shepard tell us about the current campaigns and direct actions of Sea Shepard Conservation Society.
