After my job loss, I was invited to do an interview which became the most popular one on our local radio show. The third part of Tony's chat with The Beatles biographer Ian Leslie, exploring the emotional and creative partnership between John Lennon and Paul McCartney. They discuss how Lennon's 1966 “more popular than Jesus” remark shook him, how the Beatles abandoned touring for studio experimentation, and how Yoko Ono and Linda Eastman became catalysts for John and Paul pulling apart. Business conflicts, especially over management, deepened divisions even as the band continued producing remarkable work, culminating in Abbey Road. Despite a turbulent breakup, Lennon and McCartney slowly rebuilt a loose friendship before Lennon's death, and the Beatles' artistic legacy continues to shape modern music.Hosted by Sir Tony Robinson | Instagram @sirtonyrobinsonProducer: Melissa FitzGerald | X @melissafitzgWithIan Leslie | www.ian-leslie.comIan Leslie is the author of acclaimed and bestselling books on human psychology and creativity which have been translated into over a dozen languages. The second part of Tony's chat with Beatles biographer Ian Leslie, exploring how John Lennon and Paul McCartney's unique and complex relationship shaped The Beatles. When Tony first heard ‘Love Me Do' he was blown away by the new sound he was hearing, and he's been a lifelong fan of The Beatles ever since. Today Tony and Ian are discussing the band's internal dynamics, the emotional histories that shaped John and Paul, and how drugs influenced their relationship and songwriting, pushing it to new creative places. In ‘Tomorrow Never Knows', they fused John's conceptual vision with Paul's avant-garde techniques to produce something radically new: as Ian says, “John didn't want to write a song about a trip; he wanted to create something which is a trip.”Hosted by Sir Tony Robinson | Instagram @sirtonyrobinsonProducer: Melissa FitzGerald | X @melissafitzgWithIan Leslie | www.ian-leslie.comIan Leslie is the author of acclaimed and bestselling books on human psychology and creativity which have been translated into over a dozen languages. This year, alongside writing his own book, Tony was gripped by that of another writer - Ian Leslie's ‘John & Paul: A Love Story in Songs'. Tony, who is a lifelong Beatles fan, has invited Ian onto Cunningcast to chat all about The Beatles. In Part 1 of this 3 Part series, Ian and Tony explore how a shared adolescent intensity, mutual trauma, and obsessive love of music forged the unique and complex relationship between John and Paul that fuelled the Beatles's extraordinary innovation. This is audible in songs such as We Can Work It Out and If I Fell, where harmonic complexity reflects their intertwined identities. They trace how the band's early experiences, especially in Hamburg, were transformative, exposing them to avant-garde influences, encouraging them to see themselves as artists, and blending silliness and Dada-like humour, which ultimately helped them discover who they were as a band. In this November 2022 episode—remastered with updated context—Mandy Matney dissects one of Dick Harpootlian's most shameful pre-trial stunts: publicly insinuating Curtis "Eddie" Smith of being the "real killer" based on a failed polygraph test. Watch Dick spiral through desperate theories—from Eddie to groundskeepers to anyone but Alex—while Creighton Waters finally fights back against the media manipulation. Learn about the crucial evidence: high-velocity impact spatter, Paul's phone video destroying Alex's alibi, and the timeline that placed Alex at the scene. This episode also tackles Judge Carmen Mullen's alleged abuse of power and captures the moment Dick compared himself to... Abraham Lincoln...?With trial just weeks away, Dick's chaos strategy was in full effect. Spoiler: it didn't work. The jury saw through everything within just a few hours of deliberating. Tell It Like It Is, Paul! (Part 1) | Acts 22:1-21 | 12 November 2025 - Wednesday Evening | Dr. Brad Weniger, Pastor
Originally released in June 8, 2022, Means, Motive & Opportunity: Who Killed Maggie & Paul? Part Four marks the moment when journalists Liz Farrell and Mandy Matney pieced together the strongest early case against Alex Murdaugh using credible inside sources and relentless investigation. This episode details the mounting forensic and circumstantial evidence — including video placing Alex at the crime scene, financial pressures closing in, and the unraveling power networks that long protected the Murdaugh family. With trademark precision, the journalists break down how opportunity, motive, and means collided on June 7, 2021, leading to two brutal murders that shook South Carolina.2025 Mandy and Liz also talk about the emotional toll of reporting under immense pressure, the public backlash they endured, and how truth-telling in a climate of corruption became both their calling and their survival.
Originally released in April 2022, Who Killed Maggie & Paul? Part Three marked a critical point in the Murdaugh Murders investigation. In this episode, journalists Liz Farrell and Mandy Matney reveal the first major breakthrough: physical evidence linking Alex Murdaugh directly to the Moselle crime scene through high-velocity impact spatter found on his shirt. The team unpacked how this discovery—and Alex's shifting alibi—transformed public perception and intensified scrutiny of law enforcement's handling of the case. The episode also connected the dots between Alex's crumbling finances, the upcoming Beach lawsuit hearing, and the mounting pressure that preceded the murders. This remastered edition revisits that pivotal reporting, pairing sharp analysis with haunting 911 call audio and expert forensic insight. It captures the moment when rumor gave way to reality—and the truth about the Murdaugh family's empire of deceit began to unravel in full view of the world. “FOX Carolina's exclusive interview with Murdaugh attorney Jim Griffin: Part One” - Fox Carolina, Oct 12, 2021
Originally released in January 2022, Who Killed Maggie & Paul? Part Two captures the moment when the investigation into the Murdaugh murders turned another corner.Journalists Liz Farrell and Mandy Matney dig into what their trusted sources were saying about key evidence placing Alex Murdaugh at the Moselle crime scene—and the pressure building around law enforcement to act.We dissect conflicting timelines, question the Colleton County coroner's findings, and trace how Alex's shifting alibis exposed deep cracks in South Carolina's justice system. This remastered edition revisits the reporting with new clarity in light of Alex Murdaugh's later conviction, offering listeners a gripping look at how truth slowly breaks through layers of privilege, power, and corruption that once seemed impenetrable in the Lowcountry. Lots to cover, so let's dive in...
In the month after Maggie and Paul's murders, there was very little information available about the double homicide investigation. Mandy's sources in law enforcement were extremely careful and tightlipped — so it took months to get enough information about the double homicide that would fill up a podcast episode. On June 7, 2021, Alex Murdaugh called 911 at 10:07 PM, reporting his wife and son were shot. The 911 call was released six weeks later. Paul was shot twice, and Maggie was shot multiple times. SLED took over the case due to potential conflicts of interest with the local sheriff's office. At the time this episode published, no arrests had been made, and speculation surrounded Alex Murdaugh as a person of interest. We look at how the Colleton County Sheriff's office quickly recused itself from the investigation and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) took over the case. We also take a deep dive into the 911 call and all available evidence surrounding the double homicide of Maggie & Paul Murdaugh.Join journalist Mandy Matney as we peer down the rabbit hole of how the Murdaugh family faces legal pressure from all sides, adding to the complexity of these tragic cases. The road to equality has never run smooth - in part 2, Alice Paul and the suffragists finally achieve their goal of a constitutional amendment giving women the vote - but not until a great deal of lobbying, schisms, sacrifice, and sheer willingness to go against the grain at every occasion. Never one to rest for long, Alice then had a greater aspiration - an Equal Rights Amendment that would enshrine equality for women in the constitution , which she co-wrote in 1923. Alice Paul was one of the most prominent activists of the 20th century women's rights movement, who believed that moral authority always trumps the letter of the law; injustices must be called out and resisted as a matter of principle. By hook or by crook; with personal sacrifice. determination, and a talent for spectacle, she moved the needle of public opinion though acts of resistance. Learn more about your ad choices. How did his letters become so central to Christian theology, and what happens when we begin to question that authority? Are all the Pauline epistles actually written by Paul? What if the Paul we know today is a constructed figure—reshaped by the church over time to fit emerging doctrines? And what about the voices that didn't get amplified—texts like James or the Didache that present a very different version of the Jesus movement?
