In this episode of Can't Find My Way Home, I was joined by Alex Macintosh. Originally from Canada, Alex has called Budapest home since 2018 AND Before moving to Hungary, he lived in South Korea for several years. Upon arriving in Budapest, Alex was really shocked to see such numbers of people living on the street. He explains that he didn't feel that putting spare change into people's cups would have much effect in helping the person or help address the overall issue. So, he set up the Budapest Street Project. His initial idea was to create something to sell as a souvenir and donate some proceeds to charity, but it soon began to grow into something bigger - Good Deeds Events People volunteering to do simple but kind things for people in need, like-minded artists who want to use their talents to help the community, and forward-thinking businesses who understand the importance of growing together. To raise funds for the Budapest Street Project, they create art prints and sell them. Half of the funds goes directly to a shelter or cause, the other half goes back into the project. Alex tells us more about the art and the artists.. You'll be intrigued to hear about Alex's experience of volunteering while in South Korea, and how that influenced his decision to set up Budapest Street Project. You can find out more at https://budapeststreetproject.com After the break, we hear more about Alex's Expat story. As he recalls, “ I was selling door-to-door in Ottawa...and I needed an hour to think about quitting Canada and going to live and work in South Korea.” Alex details why he chose Budapest, the Paris of the East, how he gravitated to soft skills training and running workshops in the city and We also find out about how his Toastmaster's experience has helped him working with entrepreneurs, start-ups, and small-business owners.
