By 1975, Fleetwood Mac had already had many iterations and lineups. Started by veterans of John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, early Fleetwood Mac were a blues based band with limited success on the US Billboard chart. By 1975, they had lost their main singer, lead guitarist and main songwriter in Bob Welch and remaining members Christine McVie, John McVie and Mick Fleetwood were on the search for a spark. While working at Sunset Studios, they heard the debut album from a duo that was also a couple, Buckingham Nicks. Though at first they were interested in hiring on Lindsey Buckingham as their singer and guitarist, they soon found out that he would only join if they took his singer/songwriter girlfriend Stevie Nicks as well. The rest is pop/rock history as the 1975 product of the five piece, Fleetwood Mac, would go on to sell over 7 million copies in the US alone. Now with three lead singers/songwriters in the band, they could choose the best of the best for inclusion on the record. While the choices for singles didn't always make sense (Warm Ways was the 1st UK single, World Turning wasn't released as a single), the chemistry did and the world heard harmonies that were unknown before. While Christine McVie held her own with lilting love songs (Warm Ways, Over My Head, Say You Love Me), Lindsey Buckingham offered more upbeat rockers like Monday Morning and the brooding So Afraid. However, the real star in the making was Stevie Nicks who turned the album's and the band's fortunes with her all-time classic Rhiannon. It really introduced the world to Stevie Nicks and the power she possessed in her voice and songwriting. She also offered the sweet Landslide, another track on this album that would go on to be a rock radio staple and part of their live show. The success of Fleetwood Mac gave them the opportunity to release Rumours in 1977, an album that would sell over 40 million copies worldwide. But this album laid the groundwork for Rumours and all the future success for the band for the next 50 years. Mick Fleetwood is the drummer and a founding member of Fleetwood Mac, one of the most successful rock bands of all time. Fleetwood talks to Alec about how dyslexia led him to the drumming, how supportive parents encouraged his talent and his move to London as a teenager, how his friendship with the band’s founder, guitarist Peter Green, evolved to a life-long friendship, and how Fleetwood Mac balanced the weight of their interpersonal dynamics and the band’s wild, over-the-top success. The band’s 1977 album Rumors broke through Billboard 100 again last year thanks to a Tik Tok of a man on a skateboard lipsyncing to Dreams and introduced a whole new generation to Fleetwood Mac’s beautiful, enduring music. Fleetwood Mac's iconic breakup album ‘Rumours' hit No.1 on the U.S. album charts on April 2nd, 1977, and has never really left the public consciousness since. With banger after banger—Dreams, Go Your Own Way, The Chain—it resonated across generations, but perhaps especially with the band's boomer contemporaries, many experiencing troubled relationships of their own. At the time of its recording in California, Mick Fleetwood was reeling from a collapsed marriage, John and Christine McVie were divorcing, and Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham were locked in an emotional war, with Nicks soon to embark upon a relationship with Fleetwood. Recording Rumours was a year-long endurance test. In this episode, Arion, Rebecca and Olly uncover the mathematical formula for Fleetwood's cocaine consumpion; consider how TikTok has revived interest in this seminal LP; and reveal how, despite making positive noises, contemporary critics missed just how important the album would become… Further Reading: • ‘Rumours' (Library of Congress, 2017): https://www.loc.gov/static/programs/national-recording-preservation-board/documents/Rumours.pdf • ‘Fleetwood Mac: In the Middle of the Road' (The Washington Post, 1977): https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/lifestyle/1977/02/09/fleetwood-mac-in-the-middle-of-the-road/537b612c-e519-4623-a118-144efcac1a1f/ • ‘Fleetwood Mac - Rumours [Full Album]' (Warner Records, 1977): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-uFU79MGj00 #Music #70s #US #Celebrity Love the show? The life of Michael Parenti is truly extraordinary, as he witnessed two significant cultural movements that changed the word. Growing up in Malibu, he went to school with the likes of Sean Penn and Charlie Sheen, met a young Madonna before she was an international star, hung out in Bob Dylan's house, and saw live acts like Nirvana and Red Hot Chilli Peppers long before MTV made them famous. As an internet entrepreneur, he became involved with the Bitcoin Foundation and also saw the early days of Ethereum. He attended hundreds of events, spoke with some of the people who are completely unapproachable today, and found himself in the middle of something magical, naive, and revolutionary. In this episode, we talk about the backstage politics that Michael Parenti witnessed and what it was like to believe in the cyhpherpunk dream more than a decade ago. Jenny Boyd, though not a musician, is well-known in the music industry. Formerly married to Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac, she's also Pattie Boyd's sister and sister-in-law to George Harrison and Eric Clapton. Jenny was surrounded by rock royalty from a young age and experienced many legendary moments in rock history as a result. Drawing on her deep connections in the rock world, Jenny wrote 'Icons of Rock: In Their Own Words' - a compilation of candid interviews with some of the greatest musicians of the '60s, 70s, 80s and today. Joni Mitchell, George Harrison, Don Henley, Eric Clapton and other rock giants draw back the curtain on their creative process, their thoughts on spirituality and the effect that drugs and alcohol may have had on their art. Infused with personal stories of her time in San Francisco during the Summer of Love, meeting George Harrison for the first time and her stay in India with The Beatles, Jenny and I discuss some of the most poignant interviews in the book. Fleetwood Mac began as a Psychedelic blues band but their sound expanded over each successive lineup change. They would become one of the most popular and influential bands of all time. These are select tracks from their early days with Peter Green to their more commercial fortunes with Bob Welch, and massive commercial success with Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham. I was just transported through his drum sounds." The upcoming album, Blues Experience, promises to be a powerful fusion of their distinct musical styles, blending Jake's innovative approach to the ukulele with Mick's legendary rhythm. Fans can look forward to an album that pushes boundaries while honoring the timeless quality of the music they both cherish. This week marks our first foray into Stephen King's pseudonym, Richard Bachman, with "The Running Man." We begin the episode discussing Richard Bachman and why King felt it necessary to write under a different name. Then, we get into the history of the screen adaptation by covering the various directors who tried to make this work, and how Starsky (Paul Michael Glaser) saved the day. This is hardly a passion project, bu this movie is FUN! After we discuss the development of the film, we discuss the film itself including all of the over-the-top stalkers and of course Mick Fleetwood. We finish the episode by each pairing the film with another for a pair of solid double bills!Thank you so much for listening!Created by Spike Alkire & Jake KelleyTheme Song by Breck McGoughFollow us on Instagram: @DoubleBillChillLetterboxd: FartsDomino44

Born in New York City and raised in the Caribbean as Richard Gerstein - Richard T. Bear boasts a career that spans more than 40 years, one that led to a string of acclaimed solo albums and collaborations with a number of influential icons, including Al Kooper, Stephen Stills, former Rascals Gene Cornish and Dino Danelli, Kiss, Pat Benatar and many more. He has shared stages with artists such as Dave Mason, Mick Fleetwood, the Doobie Brothers, Richie Havens and Odetta. T. Bear penned "Love and Pain," a track found on Take Me Home, one of Cher's most successful albums and also tallied several hits on his own, including the single "Sunshine Hotel" from his debut album Red, Hot and Blue. He has appeared on a number of recordings including CSN's Southern Cross, Billy Squier's Tale of the Tape and The Blues Brothers Soundtrack album. After taking some time to focus on his own sobriety, T. Bear became an early activist helping others with addiction. His self-imposed hiatus lasted nearly three decades, and now T Bear is back with two striking new releases, Fresh Bear Tracks and The Way of the World, his first studio albums in 25+ years. Richard is a distinctive singer and talented keyboard player. His latest albums feature a host of special guests. From Stephen Stills, Robby Krieger, Edgar Winter, Walter Trout, to former Paul McCartney & Wings members Laurence Juber and Denny Seiwell and The Heartbreakers' Benmont Tench. His latest album, The Way of The World, was written and recorded as the world emerged from the pandemic. It boasts a stunning set of 13 original songs. Musically, it's a stirring melodic mix of blues, rock n roll, Americana, and roots. T. Bear's first album spawned the single “Sunshine Hotel.” A remix of the song climbed to #4 on the world dance charts before becoming the dance staple that it remains today. Richard has appeared on numerous recordings by iconic artists including Crosby, Stills and Nash's Southern Cross, The Blues Brothers Soundtrack, Richie Havens Mixed Bag II, Kiss members Gene Simmons and Peter Criss' solo ventures, as well as Toby Beau's hit single My Angel Baby. As a soloist T Bear found his initial inspiration in the sounds of the British Invasion. At age 13 he was writing his own songs. An early break came when he was working at Manny's Music in New York City when Hot Tuna's Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady stopped in and hear him improvising on piano. They were impressed enough to ask him to sit in with them during a Hot Tuna show at the famed Fillmore East. He worked for a time as Carly Simon's road manager and opened shows for the likes of Jeff Beck and Richie Havens before moving to Los Angeles. In 1983, he took a lengthy hiatus from making music to get his personal life in order before returning to action in 2017. Fast forward to the present and T Bear is so excited about the new album. As he puts it, “Making The Way of the World was like getting a new pair of glasses. I see everything more clearly and in focus around me. These are songs that made me think and dream. It's an oasis for the mind.” Meet Richard T Bear this week as he unravels his incredible story of survival and comeback against all odds. I hope you really enjoy this episode.
The date August 12th marks two significant and big events in the life of the band Fleetwood Mac. On that date in 1967, the original band, consisting of founder Peter Green, drummer Mick Fleetwood, bassist John McVie and guitarist Jeremy Spencer, made their stage debut at the National Blues & Jazz Festival in London. This heavy blues version of the band was a far cry from the group most fans are familiar with today. Exactly 30 years later, the classic lineup of Fleetwood, McVie, Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie reunited on stage for the first time in 15 years on MTV's full concert program, “The Dance.” Fleetwood Mac is a tale of many bands filled with numerous personalities who've all left an indelible mark on their sound. Mark Blake calls Dreams: the Many Lives of Fleetwood Mac a “mosaic biography”, their almost six-decade saga presented as a series of enthralling short stories with titles like ‘Mick Fleetwood's Great Epiphany' and ‘Rumours: A Doomed Romance in Six Acts'. It opens in fact with a “cast of characters”, the 18 one-time members, as if dramatis personae in a play, a play that gets more outlandish and dumbfounding with every new discovery and much of it based on his interviews and meetings with most of them (including Peter Green). A few highlights here … … how Stevie Nicks arrived as the spare part of a package deal and rose to become indispensable. … the fake Fleetwood Mac and the Jeremy Spencer and Peter Green impersonators (which involves an egg and potato farmer from Essex). … why you should watch the Tusk video repeatedly (and its ruinous cost). … Bill Clinton, Daisy Jones & the Six, the dancing pony, Guardians of the Galaxy and other key factors in the return of the Mac. … from model to muse to psychotherapist, the story of the real life Black Magic Woman. … “Oh Lord, she's writing another song.” … internal romantic tangles that give their music a poignancy. … the horrors of Kiln House. … Lyndsey Buckingham's Armani/Clash episode. … Stevie's love affair with Derek Taylor who then had to promote a slow-selling album containing a secret song about it. … Mick Fleetwood, “old ham”, drag act, compulsive show-off, unsuitable band manager. MDJ Script/ Top Stories for June 25th Publish Date: June 25th Commercial: From the Ingles Studio, Welcome to the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast. Today is Tuesday, June 25th and Happy 77th Birthday to Fleetwood Mac drummer Mick Fleetwood. ***06.25.24 – BIRTHDAY – MICK FLEETWOOD*** I'm Dan Radcliffe and here are the stories Cobb is talking about, presented by Credit Union of Georgia. Cobb to Consider Pause on Licensing Health Spas Cobb Elections Board Finalizes Runoff Results Man Convicted for Cold Case Murder of Father Shot for $50 All of this and more is coming up on the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen and subscribe! BREAK: CU of GA STORY 1: Cobb to Consider Pause on Licensing Health Spas Cobb County officials are proposing a six-month moratorium on licensing health spas due to concerns over code violations, prostitution, and human trafficking activities reported at local massage parlors. The county's Community Development Department has highlighted evasion of law enforcement by illicit spa establishments as a significant issue. The moratorium aims to halt new licenses while regulations are tightened to address these issues. Recent incidents, such as a sexual assault allegation at a massage parlor, have underscored the need for stricter oversight. Similar measures have been implemented in neighboring cities like Roswell to combat human trafficking. The county hopes to finalize new regulations by November to better manage this industry. STORY 2: Cobb Elections Board Finalizes Runoff Results The Cobb Board of Elections unanimously certified results from the June 18 runoff, confirming turnout of 2.49% with 5,750 votes cast out of 231,011 eligible voters across two races. Dr. Jaha Howard won the Democratic runoff for Cobb Board of Commissioners District 2 with 73.07% of the vote, advancing to face Republican Pamela Reardon in November. In the Democratic runoff for Congressional District 14, retired U.S. Army Brigadier Gen. Shawn Harris secured 69% of the vote, setting up a general election contest against incumbent U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene. STORY 3: Man Convicted for Cold Case Murder of Father Shot for $50 Dontavian Jones, 22, has been found guilty for the 2016 murder of Dewenzell Spence, 41, in Cobb County. This marks the second conviction in Spence's case, with Terrance Marshall previously sentenced to life without parole. Spence was abducted at gunpoint in Atlanta, forced to withdraw money, then fatally shot in Mableton. His body was discovered in a heavily decomposed state days later. Surveillance footage and facial recognition identified the perpetrators. Senior Assistant District Attorney Stephanie Green described the crime as horrifying and expressed hope for justice in sentencing. Jones faces sentencing on July 15. Break: DRAKE STORY 4: Kennesaw Resident Carly Vogel Wins Miss Tennessee Title Carley Vogel, 23, from Kennesaw, was crowned Miss Tennessee 2024 at the East Tennessee State University Martin Center in Johnson City. She earned a $17,500 scholarship and will represent Tennessee at the Miss America Competition in January 2024 in Orlando, Florida. Vogel, a student at Middle Tennessee State University, impressed judges with her vocal performance of “Climb Every Mountain” from "The Sound of Music." Previously Miss Cobb County, she placed third runner-up in Miss Georgia 2022. Vogel joins Miss Georgia 2024 Lulu Louizaire in vying for the Miss America title. The Miss Cobb County pageant, promoting scholarship and community service, will take place on August 3 at the Jennie T. Anderson Theater, offering over $20,000 in scholarships and prizes. STORY 5: Could AI dramatically improve how quickly we diagnose cancer? British scientists have developed a prototype using machine learning to diagnose cancer with over 98% accuracy, identifying 13 types including breast, liver, lung, and prostate cancer. The technology analyzes DNA methylation patterns, which can indicate cancerous changes early on. These patterns, caused by environmental factors altering DNA bases, are crucial for distinguishing cancerous tissue from healthy samples. Published in Biology Methods & Protocols, the study's AI model is trained to interpret these patterns, potentially revolutionizing early cancer detection. Researchers emphasize the need for further diverse biopsy testing to refine the model for clinical use, aiming to enhance patient outcomes by enabling earlier treatment interventions. Break: INGLES 8 STORY 6: Two Injured in Motorcycle Wreck Near KSU Two people were seriously injured in a motorcycle crash near Kennesaw State University. The motorcycle, driven by an unidentified man and carrying 18-year-old Helen Mastranni of Canton, was traveling east on Chastain Road. A Lexus driven by 22-year-old Sierra Lee from Louisiana, traveling west, turned left onto Barrett Lakes Boulevard with a green arrow, colliding with the motorcycle that had entered the intersection on a red turn signal. The impact separated the riders from the bike. Both were hospitalized with serious injuries at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital. Lee also sought medical attention for injuries. The crash is under investigation, and Cobb Police are seeking information from witnesses at 770-499-3987. STORY 7: Police: Smyrna Man Fatally Shot Female Roommate George Perry, 40, of Smyrna, has been arrested and charged with murder after fatally shooting his roommate, Davon McDaniel, early Friday morning. Perry called 911 himself to report the shooting at their apartment on Cumberland Glen Lane. He indicated he shot McDaniel in the chest but did not provide a reason and did not appear fearful during the call. Police found McDaniel suffering from a gunshot wound and attempted aid but he was pronounced dead at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital. Perry, who showed no injuries, was arrested and refused to speak without a lawyer present. He faces charges including possession of a firearm during a crime and is held without bond at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.
