Dan makes his first appearance on the pod of 2026 and what at time to do it - an excellent week for United as they pick up two wins, complete two doubles, six points added and six goals scored! The win over FGR puts United firmly in pole position to secure that vital third place in the league... but could they go one or two better?!We look back on the 3-1 win over Robbie Savage's Vegans before looking ahead to this weekend's fixture against struggling Yeovil Town at Brunton Park. We're back with another episode of I Had Trials Once and this time we're joined by Macclesfield captain...PAUL DAWSON! Paul sits down with Gaz & Jord to discuss everything from the magic of the FA Cup to why he loves hard tackles & jumping into 50/50's. The lads start the pod talking in depth about Macclesfields FA Cup run, knowing the Crystal Palace players weren't up for it and clearing the snow to make sure games were still on. Paul then talks us through his iconic goal against Crystal Palace, how he managed to rattle Adam Wharton by getting into his head all game & a serious Marc Guehi. The trio then chat in about facing Brentford in the next round, who Daws would have liked to have played and why it's important to stay focused on the next game. Paul then talks about how his move to Macclesfield came about, why a tarot card reading swayed his decision and his love of jumping into tough 50/50 tackles. Finally they end the pod talking about working under different managers at Macclesfield from Robbie Savage to Cleggy and now Adam Rooney! WE'RE DOING ANOTHER LIVE SHOW!

We all spend a lot of time lamenting the cynical side of the modern game, but if there's an antidote, it's the weekend ahead of us. The FA Cup Third Round Proper is one for the romantics: the smallest clubs in the land can share a pitch with the biggest, and both sides can live a different football life for a day.Moss Rose was built in 1891 for Macclesfield Town, which was would-up in 2020 amid financial troubles. A phoenix club was born in the ashes and has risen from the ninth tier of the English football pyramid (the North West Counties Football League) to the sixth (the National League North) in next-to-no time. Now they've got their biggest match of the year on Saturday, as FA Cup holders and Premier League stalwarts Crystal Palace will come to a small ground south of Manchester to battle the Silkmen. In fact, says this week's guest, it's one of the biggest days in the combined history of Macclesfield Town and Macclesfield F.C. That guest is James Walker of The Silkmen News, a podcast and newsletter, and he also explained how new owner Robert Smethurst righted the ship with the help of his friend Robbie Savage after buying up the assets in an online liquidation sale. We also touched on how Wayne Rooney's brother, John, is doing this season having replaced Savage as manager having helped the club win promotion how non-league football is thriving these days, and how Macclesfield got their nickname. For our U.S. listeners, you can catch every FA Cup match this season on ESPN+Check out The Silkmen News on Spotify and Substack, and get more sharp coverage of the world's game at TheFootballWeekend.com ↗️ Hosted on Acast. I hope you enjoy this uplifting conversation with Ash Loveridge as much as I did. Ash is a seasoned sports journalist who is approaching the 5th year of running the independent website https://stroudtimes.com In this episode we talk about how former Premier League footballer and Wales international Robbie Savage has helped lift Forest Green Rovers on and off the pitch. We also talk about the continued growth of Stroud Times and people's hunger for local news and sports coverage in an age where traditional outlets are under the pump.

On this week's episode of The Joy of Football, we NEED to talk about Wolves! With Vítor Pereira gone, what is next for the club. Then, we need to talk about Managers and their mental health. Then... we need to talk about Arsenal's incredible defence, and how they may finally be the team to break Chelsea's record of least goals conceded in a campaign. Then......... you guessed it, we need to talk about - could Welbeck be a striker option for England at the World Cup. Next, in an incredible change in tradition, we have MARTIN TYLER'S VOICE OF PASSION. Martin takes a leaf out of Neil's book, and expressed his point of view on the game's use of data, and how things never truly change. Then it's our usual Three of the Best, featuring; Michael Carrick, Declan Rice, and the Woking FC Youth Achademy. Lastly, we have Martin Tyler's Letter from the Gantry, this week centreed on Luton vs Forest Green Rovers in the FA Cup, and therefore Jack Wilshere vs Robbie Savage. Join Neil Barnett (former Chelsea touch-liner announce and football journalist) alongside the voice of the Premier League Martin Tyler in celebrating the greatest addiction in the World! Since taking his first tentative steps into management just over a year ago, Robbie Savage has been riding on the crest of a wave. The former Wales midfielder won the Northern Premier League Premier Division title with six games to spare last season, prompting Forest Green Rovers to give him his first taste of professional management with a four-year contract in July. An unbeaten start to this season sees Savage's side sitting joint top of League Two.But the 50-year-old is a latecomer to management, having forged a career as an outspoken pundit since retiring from playing in 2011. So why the change? And does his famously combative and emotional character suit the highly pressurized role of a lower league manager? Savage provides an honest and open assessment of his new career and future prospects, offering a glimpse of the competitive fire that typified his playing career.
