Music is a reflection of both our history as well as our social consciousness. It helps us make sense of the world and allows us to make personal connections with it. Perhaps more than any other art form, music is evocative; it triggers vivid memories of childhood, falling in love, loss and sadness - it forces us to look at ourselves to remember who we were and who we are.  Music always makes me feel connected in a Jungian sense. It makes me realize that the struggles I have are not mine alone, they are shared. Simply recognizing this makes me feel less alone and ultimately better.  I'm a big fan of the Blues. In the late 70-'s early 80's I lost my connection with popular music - it just didn't resonate., so as great bluesmen, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGee said in one of their songs, I became a “white boy lost in the blues” I began to seek out roots music wherever I could find it. Fortunately Toronto in the early 80's was a place where the great blues artists were readily accessible to me in a number of small venues. I had the chance to see and meet some of the greatest blues artists of our time - Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, Albert Collins, Fenton Robinson, Son Seals and a great many others - before what I will call the blues renaissance which occurred the nineties, when popular artists, realizing the contribution these aging blues players had made to the world of music began to appearing as guests on their records, thereby raising awareness of the blues form and these great artists in the minds of a white listening audience. So here's the rub, while blues themes tend to focus on “Feeling Blue” about things which happen in one's life - “The Thrill is Gone”, Baby Please Don't Go, The sky is crying” etc. the blues are about acknowledging our pain our feelings of loss and sadness, and by doing so, we feel better. This episode of the space celebrates the spirit of the blues ...#ForWhatitsWorthThe Music for Today's Show, "You Think I'm Bad" is written and performed by Oliver McQuaid. It is Blue Monday….the most depressing day of the year. The date was calculated by using many factors, including: weather conditions, debt level, time since Christmas, time since failing our new year’s resolutions, low motivational levels and feeling of a need to take action. This isn’t a scientifically true formula, but it does point out several things that we already know.  Our stress levels are impacted by many things such as negative weather conditions, lack of finances, unrealistic expectations and unmet goals.  If all of these things come to a head at the same time, it certainly can make for a stressful or depressing time in our life. So here are Today’s Hot Tips For Building Resiliency and Celebrating Blue Monday: Get outside. Go for a walk.  Even if it is a snowy, winter’s day, the benefits of getting a light break, beat staying indoors and moping around. Turn today into a celebration.  Plan special activities at work or going out with friends.  Start planning a vacation.  Even just looking at beautiful vacation pictures has a positive impact on our mood. Know though, that sometimes, it is okay to indulge in the blues.  Wrap up in a cozy blanket, turn on that sappy movie, and let all of your emotions flow out. If you think that you have moved beyond the blues, talk to your doctor.  Seasonal Affective Disorders and Depression are serious and can spiral out of control quickly.  The sooner you do, the better. Next, Jason takes a small victory lap following Kyler Murray’s virtuoso performance on Sunday Night Football against Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks. Don’t look now but the Arizona Cardinals could threaten for the NFC West crown. Later, Jason explains why it’s so clear by now – if it wasn’t already before – that Tom Brady made the right choice by leaving Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are clearly the best team in the NFC, and they’re showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon. On the flip side, the Patriots appear to be a middling football team and are suddenly on the verge of completing their first October in 20 years. But, be wary Bucs fans as the addition of mercurial wide receiver Antonio Brown could throw a monkey wrench into all of this. Jason also shares his thoughts on Odell Beckham Jr’s unfortunate knee injury and explains why Baker Mayfield should still be able to thrive without him at least in the short term, and later tells us why the Detroit Lions’ come-from-behind victory against the Atlanta Falcons could give them the momentum they need to make a playoff push this season. Lessons from the Universe™ with Jennifer Hall

Sometimes we feel blue.  We may catch ourselves stuck in worry, discontent, or a feeling that is best described as “empty”.  We must remember, that this is not a cage.  It is an opportunity.  If we take it apart, become stewards of our thinking and experts in the intricacies of our own human machines, these moments will become easier to navigate and fewer and far between.  In this timely rewind lesson, we discuss the often overlooked reasons for the blues, their role in life school, and how to escape the darkness. © 2019 Universal Lessons LLC, lessonsfromtheuniverse.com

Expect to practise a little bit of a variety of postures including: gentle twists, yummy hip openers, forward folds and chest and shoulder openers. One thing is for certain: Blue shows up an awful lot in MMORPG soundtrack, which is why the Battle Bards have mined their music libraries for the bluest of blue tunes to share.
