Daily Halacha Podcast - Daily Halacha By Rabbi Eli J. Mansour
Certain portions of the prayer service cannot be recited without the presence of a Minyan. These include Nakdishach, Kaddish, Barechu, Birkat Kohanim, the repetition of the Amida, the congregational reading of the Torah and the Haftara, and the Yag Middot (thirteen attributes of mercy). A "Minyan" is defined as a group of ten Jewish males who have reached the age of Bar-Misva. Nobody and nothing other than Jewish males above Bar-Misva age count toward a Minyan. If nine men are present in the synagogue, they cannot count the Sefer Torah, or the Teba or the Hechal, as the tenth "person" for the Minyan. Tradition teaches that Eliyahu Ha'nabi attends every Berit Mila. One should not think, however, that because of this tradition, a group of nine men at a Berit can be considered a Minyan given that Eliyahu is present and can thus be considered the tenth man. A Minyan requires the presence of ten men, and Eliyahu attends a Berit as an angel, not a man. Therefore, he cannot be counted. Stories are told of how Eliyahu appeared in the form of a human being, and when this happens, he can be counted toward a Minyan. However, when he arrives in the form of an angel, he does not count toward a Minyan. This applies also to the Gemara's teaching that the righteous are considered "alive" even after their passing. Some people mistakenly allow on this basis reciting Kaddish at a cemetery even without the presence of ten men, figuring that the Sadikim buried in the cemetery are considered "alive" and can thus be counted toward a Minyan. They draw proof from the Gemara's description (Ketubot 103) of how Rabbi Yehuda Ha'nasi would join his family every Friday night after his passing and recite Kiddush for them. If Rabbi Yehuda Ha'nasi could recite Kiddush for his family after his passing, this might indicate that Sadikim are truly considered alive with respect to Halacha even after their death. This inference, however, is incorrect. Firstly, there is a rule that we cannot reach Halachic conclusions based on the Aggadic sections of the Talmud, such as stories told of the Talmudic sages. Additionally, the Gemara describes Rabbi Yehuda Ha'nasi arriving in his home in the form of a living person, and so he could be halachically regarded as a human being. This cannot be said of the souls of the departed which cannot be seen. Therefore, Kaddish may not be recited in a cemetery without a Minyan, even if there are Sadikim known to be buried there. If somebody recites Kaddish in a cemetery in the presence of fewer than ten men, others should not answer "Amen," since the Kaddish is being recited inappropriately.

We hear about it in the media all the time: the male loneliness epidemic, the toxic masculinity culture running rampant today, how men are failing to reach out or seek help out of fear of seeming weak, so they're isolating themselves… to detrimental effect. Juliette Ferrington sits down with the Manchester City boss, who says his players have had greater success than any team and would have won again this season had it not been for the relentless schedule of fixtures.Next to Liverpool, who came from behind with ten men to gain a point against Fulham. Was Robertson's sending off incident a clear goal-scoring opportunity? Darren believes so, Kaveh disagrees, but both place Slot's team clear title favourites. Also, with no goal in open play for five and half hours for Arsenal, Kaveh criticises Arteta for taking Odegaard off; will their failure to consistently score goals be their Achilles heel?Elsewhere, we discuss Gareth Southgate's pending knighthood and issues with the Saudi World Cup.Finally, Natalie Gedra sits down with Kevin De Bruyne, who talks of City's current struggle, an ageing side and being resilient to criticism.

At the beginning of 2019, writer and journalist Kitty Ruskin was young, free, and single and eager to give her sex life a bit of a shake-up. Having previously shunned the idea of one-night stands and kissing complete strangers, Ruskin decided to embrace her sexuality and embark upon a year of no-strings, casual sex. Partly inspired by Sex and the City's Samantha and by her desire to shed her sexual reservations, Ruskin began meeting a variety of men on dating apps, one swipe at a time. In her new book ‘Ten Men,' Ruskin shares the details of her year of sexual liberation and the darker and less discussed side of modern dating. She tells Róisín Ingle about the men she met, the men she'd rather forget, and the lasting impact of her experiment.Warning: This episode discusses sexual assault and rape. Hosted on Acast. Ten Men, A Year of Casual Sex is a new book from the author Kitty Ruskin. It follows a year of her life when she attempts to embody Samantha from Sex and the City and enjoy all the advantages of being young, free and single. As she details 10 men in 10 chapters, the stories range from sexy and funny to at times deeply confronting and violent, including rape. Kitty joins Krupa Padhy to discuss.Today, the government has accepted an amendment to the Victims and Prisoners Bill they say could be a big step forward for rape victims. The amendment will help ensure extra protection for victims' counselling notes, by raising the threshold that needs to be met for the police to ask for them. It's something that charities like Rape Crisis and the End Violence Against Women Coalition have been campaigning for. Joining Krupa is Baroness Gabby Bertin, the Conservative peer who tabled the amendment.According to new research, people who are 65 think that old age begins just before you turn 75. However, 74-year-olds think old age starts at 77. Women think old age starts later than men do. So when are you 'old' and what does 'old' mean? Krupa speaks to Steph Daniels who re-joined her local hockey team at 75, after a 40-year gap, and has just started managing a band again.ARFID stands for Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder. Commonly underdiagnosed as picky eating, we'll hear how the eating disorder manifests in children and what it's like for parents. Krupa speaks to a mother, Lisa Hale, whose son has the condition and Professor Sandeep Ranote, Clinical Spokesperson for the eating disorders charity BEAT.An adaption of Muriel Spark's novel The Girls of Slender Means is currently on at The Royal Lyceum Theatre in Edinburgh. Set in the summer of 1945, it follows the adventures of a group of young women who are caught between hope and unhappiness. As each girl grapples with what happened in the war, they begin to imagine what lies ahead of them in peacetime. Actress and writer Gabriel Quigley tells Krupa how she felt adapting the words of one of the greatest British novelists.

In part three of his sermon series, Ten Men, Pastor Jess challenges us to consider that Jesus has a much different definition of joy, one where we choose suffering rather than conquering. How do we step into the joy of suffering with people? It starts with two phrases, “Let Me” and “Will you”.

So let's talk about the ten men's health issues... June has come to an end, and it holds great significance, especially for someone like me, as it is Men's Health Month. As we look back, we dedicated four weeks to addressing important issues and discovering ways to prioritize self-care so we can live a longer and better life with our loved ones. But if you cannot get enough of our men's health series, worry no more, for here's a special episode as we welcome July! Be sure to tune in as I present what I think are the top 10 by-laws of men's health. Why you need to check this episode: Find out which among the long list of illnesses and diseases should be men's top 10 concern when it comes to their health Recognize the importance and power of early prevention and detection in relation to taking care of one's health Understand how taking care of ourselves first helps us become our best selves for others “It is when we're old that all of our young ways catch up to us. So instead of waiting for us to get old and have our young decisions catch up to us, let's take care of them when they're young so we don't have to deal with them when we're old [and] so we don't have to carry an oxygen tank around everywhere we go.”– Dr. Berry Pierre Notable Quotes: “First of all, [heart disease], it is a no.1 killer in general, but specifically for us, [men], it takes us out at a rate that we need to be mindful of it when we're young, when we're old, for ourselves, our family members.”– Dr. Berry Pierre “If you could just stop one bad habit that we know have beneficial results to you living longer, living better, it's going to be the cigarette smoking. When it comes to cancer, there's not a cancer that cigarette smoking doesn't increase your risk of getting; let's think about that” – Dr. Berry Pierre “We know that yes, the c-word is a bad word; cancer is a bad word. But if we can catch it early enough, our prognosis [and] our treatment improves dramatically.” – Dr. Berry Pierre “When it comes to health and healthcare, you have to be greedy. When it comes to just living life, you got to take care of yourself first before you worry about taking care of others. Because if you can't take care of yourself, then the others are not going to be able to take care of you.” – Dr. Berry Pierre Sign up at www.listentodrberry.com to join the mailing list. Bucketheads' is the only men's basketball-focused podcast on the Land-Grant Podcast Network, co-hosts Connor Lemons and Justin Golba give the latest scoop on the Ohio State Buckeyes as well as all the other happenings in the college hoops world. ‘Bucketheads' will be released every other Thursday during the offseason. With the NBA Draft deadline passed, Connor and Justin used episode 77 to discuss the state of the Big Ten conference. This year's NBA deadline was a win for the B1G, as noteworthy stars like Terrence Shannon Jr., Zach Edey, Coleman Hawkins, and Boo Buie returned to their respective teams. The guys agreed that the top of the conference will likely be anchored by the Boilermakers and Spartans, with the Illinois Fighting Illini not far behind. Spots three through eight are a hodgepodge of teams who are likely to make the NCAA Tournament, but probably aren't good enough to win the Big Ten — like Ohio State, Maryland, and Northwestern. The bottom of the Big Ten will likely have some familiar faces: Nebraska, Minnesota, and Penn State. But both Connor and Justin agree that Michigan is poised to take a major step back as well after a disastrous offseason that saw Hunter Dickinson, Jett Howard, and Kobe Bufkin all leave.
