Billi (@SGPSoccer) breaks down the Premier League Matchday 32 slate, with the primary focus now shifting towards the many European spots the EPL are expected to receive (as many as 10 and a minimum of 8).The weekend opens up with Manchester City hosting Crystal Palace on Saturday morning— which is looking like a must-win for the hosts. Manchester City face a battle to make the Premier League top four this season, and their chances of doing so may take another hit when they host an in-form Crystal Palace on Saturday. City's drab goalless draw in last weekend's Manchester Derby leaves them in 6th spot, with just four wins from their last nine games in all competitions, and they have only tasted victory in half of their last six at the Etihad. After a rather boring Manchester Derby, David Mooney is joined by City fans KC and Gaz to reflect on why the game went the way it did... and if there was anything City, in their current situation, could have done to get more out of the game. Dan Burke reflects on all of the previous Premier League Manchester Derbies that have ended goalless, while we also discuss Kevin De Bruyne's legacy at the Etihad. He announced he would be leaving the club at the end of the season, so we've been gathering your memories of his decade in a blue shirt. It's Crystal Palace up next for City, so comedian and Palace fan Andre Vincent is back on the show to try and explain why they're having such a good time of it this season so far. How urgent is a win for City in the race for next season's Champions League places? We've also had the news that season ticket and matchday ticket prices will be frozen for next season, thanks to action by supporter fan groups and the City Matters fan advisory board. What should happen next and how can this be built on for the future? ========== To get more podcasts or to listen without the ads, join our Patreon. The Sam's kick things off with El Gatwick as Palace stun Brighton in a derby full of bite. Meanwhile, the Manchester Derby was… well, a bin fire in comparison. Everton and Arsenal treated us to a glorified training session—one the Gunners maybe should've taken seriously as Fulham went and shocked Liverpool. Musa and Ryan begin with a quick Premier League round-up (02:51), which saw Fulham inflict only the second league defeat of the season for Liverpool. Villa and Forest also served up a cracker at Villa Park, and it was goals and red cards at Selhurst Park. Plus, Southampton were relegated. Finally, there's a quick look around La Liga, where Valencia won at the Bernabéu for the first time in 17 years (29:38), plus the Bundesliga and Serie A. United and City played out a dull 0-0 draw at Old Trafford, with both sides lacking cutting edge. City, without the injured Haaland, couldn't break down a well-organised defence. United will be happy to finish with a clean sheet, having conceded 17 in their nine previous league matches at Old Trafford under Ruben Amorim. Garnacho was United's main outlet but wasteful and a decent Zirkzee effort was well saved by Ederson. De Bruyne — set to leave City this summer — couldn't provide a spark in a flat game. City stay fifth in the table, United sit 13th, and both teams will just be glad not to have lost. Also on the show, we preview the upcoming Europa League clash against Lyon with the help of Julien Laurens. Can United keep their season alive? An action-packed Premier League weekend threw up plenty of talking points, but very few of those came in what has been described as the most boring Manchester Derby in years. Kevin de Bruyne's final Old Trafford test for City ended in a 0-0 bore draw with United, whilst Liverpool's defeat to Fulham - just their second of the season - couldn't be pounced on by Arsenal. Meanwhile, sorry Southampton saw their relegation confirmed, and they sacked Ivan Juric before we even had the chance to talk about it! 12 februari 2011. Old Trafford gonst van spanning. Manchester United vs. Manchester City. Old Trafford ontploft. Old Trafford beeft.City-spelers staan verstijfd.
Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna has admitted that it's 'likely' they'll be relegated back to the Championship after they threw away a 1-0 lead to lose 2-1 at home to Wolves, with the visitors moving 12 points clear of the drop zone with 7 games to clear. The former England midfielder Jermaine Jenas questioned Mikel Arteta's decision to rotate his Arsenal side after they were held to a 1-1 draw at Everton. Jockey Patrick Mullins says that it's a 'dream' to win the Grand National for his father Willie after 33-1 shot Nick Rockett won the feature race at Aintree. The former British Champion Paul Smith has urged Joe Joyce to retire from Boxing after a unanimous decision to Filip Hrgovic. Ahead of their game with Southampton later, Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou believes the club will only be successful if they stop chopping and changing managers, and Ruben Amorim previews this afternoon's Manchester Derby! It's Manchester Derby weekend — and we've gone BIG for it. Tyrone Marshall hosts a dual special podcast with Samuel Luckhurst from Manchester Is Red and Simon Bajkowski from Talking City as we preview the huge showdown at Old Trafford. Topics include: Are United even capable of stopping City right now? Can City's “old guard” handle the derby intensity? Haaland's injury latest and who replaces him Why this derby could shape both clubs' seasons Whether you're red or blue — this is the Manchester derby preview you can't miss.
It's the Manchester derby, UNITED against CITY, but it's certainly a strange one. Both of these clubs are in a bad way, though that means something different to each of them. City have fallen from champion grace but are still battling for a Champions League place. United, on the other hand, are 13th in the league with eight matches left to play. It's an incredible state of affairs for one of Europe's true superclubs, and on this week's show, the brilliant Carl Anka of The Athletic suggests that United are becoming something like the Dallas Cowboys: a giant global sporting institution that's lost its magic. We got into how the Red Devils spent their way into this mess, how City have become a team with a soft underbelly, and why this Sunday's encounter may be a meeting of the legless midfields. If you're enjoying the show, please leave us a rating and review! After a thrilling mid week slate of fixtures, the EPL returns with the Manchester Derby. In a relatively strange circumstance surrounding this fixture, neither teams are - at this point - playing for the title. United will look to add three points to try and salvage their miserable season and City will hope to qualify for next season's Champions League. A fixture with relegation implications between Ipswich and Wolves could allow Ipswich to hold onto a glimmer of hope, or essentially relegate them with a loss. Villa and Forest both hold hopes of qualifying for next season's Champions League, a win for Forest would go a long way in securing that for them. After back-to-back wins that have seen Manchester City take a commanding position in the race for the top four/five and make it into the semi-finals of the FA Cup, David Mooney is joined by Nick Clarke from the MCFC Fans Foodbank Support group and by Dom Farrell from Sporting News to review the week. With supporters protesting against the club's ticket partnerships and policies, they look at the action that was taken during the opening nine minutes of the win over Leicester and what is hoped it will achieve in the coming weeks and months. After a good performance in the centre of the pitch, we discuss what role Jack Grealish can have between now and the end of the season, plus it was a big week for Nico O'Reilly, after he changed the game at Bournemouth and followed that up by performing very well in midweek. And, with the Manchester Derby on the horizon, we preview that match - and look back to some local derbies that City have NEVER played in the Premier League. We'll hear from fans of Bury, Macclesfield and Stockport with their memories of visits to Maine Road. On top of all of that... what's the most audacious goal City have scored? ========== To get more podcasts or to listen without the ads, join our Patreon.
