Today we discuss watch regrets, and how we were lucky to avoid a couple of them! Specifically we are referencing a YouTube video by Britt Pearce titled These Are Watches You Will Always Regret Buying, and sharing our own stories of times we were in the scenarios Britt covers in her video, with a 2011 Rolex Explorer II 16570 and a new white dial steel ceramic Daytona 116500LN. Some watch brands never seem to change, while others are constantly trying to re-invent what they do. That's the topic for this episode of HODINKEE Radio and I asked Jack, Danny, and Cole to weigh in with their perspectives on the concept of consistency vs. variety in watch design. As you can imagine, it's another loose and chatty episode that dips into the "Rolex method", brands that aren't afraid to break the mold, how many bands Greenday has actually been, and a whole bunch more. Thanks so much for listening, we'll catch you in the comments at Hodinkee.com. With the hopes of much more SCUBA diving on the horizon, this episode fits the theme of World Ocean Week with plenty of dive-related topics and a special interview with the man that helped to create Garmin's high-tech and multi-talented Descent dive and multi-sport watch. Please welcome to the show Patrick Danko, who has been working with Garmin since 2005 and, after learning to dive with his wife, helped spearhead the Descent program with Garmin. The boys dig into dive computer culture, how to design a dive computer that is also a full-time watch, and Patrick offers both a complete breakdown of the new Descent MK2's impressive feature list along with his love of wreck diving and some of the sites he has on his wishlist. Aside from the interview, James debuts a silly new segment, Jason has a snazzy new spring bar tool, and Final Notes offers a specifically ocean-based theme. The TGN boys have taken a virtual trip to Switzerland and they've returned with countless treasures – no, wonders – to share. With Watches & Wonders 2021 officially underway, Jason and James were thrilled to discover a number of sporty new releases that fall within the general purview of The Grey NATO. From smaller Explorers, silver and gold offerings from Tudor, and lots to love from many of our other favorite brands, show season never fails to deliver plenty for the boys to chat about and it's a packed show with cottage updates, book recommendations, James' return to #teampastel, and even emergency water filtration. Basically, it's a little something for everyone but the main course is decidedly Swiss and fresh out of the oven. We had the pleasuring of being able to source two incredible watches for some clients of Life on the Wrist. The first watch was a very crispy Rolex Explorer II. It was the black dial version of the reference 16570 and was for a client who had purchased watches from us in the past. It was so nice to continue to be a part of their watch journey and get them a watch that marked many occasions in their life. The Explorer can be found here. The second watch was an incredibly beautiful vintage LeCoultre from the 1950’s. It has a triple calendar moon-phase complication and is basically the definition of vintage. The LeCoultre can be found here.We also discuss a recent bit of news, where we have been given the chance to review some watch straps from the Canadian watch strap company called StrapsCo. Check out our latest posts for more on them! You can find us on our Website, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook Want to be part of the Launch of our clothing line? Today's episode is action-packed! We hit the mics for a one-two combo of good old-fashioned watch matchmaking. But before we get to Juuso and Louis, the people of the internet ask Andy the tough questions over his latest acquisition, the 36mm candy pink Rolex Oyster Perpetual. He fearlessly answers every one, and by the end of it, we can guarantee you will have sold all your 40mm+ black-dialled divers and falling in love with petite fun watches. Eventually, though the questions die down and we dive into our watch matchmaking. Juuso is in a very 2020 predicament. He had his name down for the 39mm white-dialled Rolex OP, and then Rolex discontinued it. He wants an alternative. And Louis, well he has a different problem entirely. He's an American entrepreneur looking for a watch to tide him over until his rose gold AP comes in. Louis is also after a watch he can pass down to his kid. Buckle up people, it's about to get wild (and watchy) up in here. This episode is brought to you by Longines, who launched the outstanding Spirit collection earlier this year.
