POPULARITY
It's no secret that we're Speedmaster fans here at Fratello. RJ, our founder, is an avid collector of these chronographs and the mind behind #SpeedyTuesday. But not all Speedies are created equal. Today, we're looking at some of the best modern Omega Speedmaster models. RJ, Thomas, and Nacho have tasked themselves with selecting their top five favorites. Now, as mentioned, we're focusing only on "modern" models, meaning only those introduced or available during the past 25 years. Though the watch has been around for nearly 70 years, a quarter century still leaves us with plenty to pick from. Omega produced countless special and limited editions over the last two and a half decades, so we're truly spoiled for choice.
In this episode of Wrist Enthusiast Radio, Derek, Ben, and Craig break down their favorite watches that come on rubber straps and the ones they wish did. From classics like the Rolex Yacht-Master and Patek Philippe Aquanaut to underrated picks like the IWC Mark XV and Zenith Defy Skyline, the crew shares what works, what doesn't, and what could look even better with the right rubber strap. They also spotlight Delugs and their lineup of cut-to-size and mosaic-pattern straps, including firsthand experiences fitting them to watches like the Omega Speedmaster, Cartier Santos, and Wren Diver One. Whether you're looking to add a rubber strap for comfort, versatility, or style, this episode doubles as a practical buying guide filled with inspiration and ideas for your next strap upgrade. Make sure to check out the sponsor of our podcast, Delugs! Delugs is a great place to get all your watch straps and accessories. Definitely check them out! Welcome to another episode of Fratello On Air! This week, we discuss two popular complications and their usefulness. It's the type of nerdy talk we hope you enjoy!Watch complications are a big part of why many of us collect timepieces. Dive watches, chronographs, alarms, and others form the cornerstone of some collections. Today, though, we focus on two types of watches that couldn't be any more different if they tried! The GMT and perpetual calendar genres were popular at Watches and Wonders 2025, so we discuss the utility of each.HandgelenkskontrolleBefore tackling two very different complications, we engage in some banter. This week, we keep it relatively brief and discuss a few TV shows. Silo, 3 Body Problem, Dope Thief, Stranger Things, and You all come up in our chat. Balazs also quickly mentions some New Balance 990V6 Miusa Action Bronson Untitled shoes he will purchase. For the Handgelenkskontrolle, Mike is wearing his Ming 18.01 H41 with a newly received mango rubber strap. It's a great color! Balazs is enjoying his Omega Speedmaster 145.022 transitional from 1968. He has it on a perforated strap from Joseph Bonnie.Complications — useful or useless? For some reason, there were a lot of GMT and perpetual calendar complications at Watches and Wonders 2025. Seeing GMTs wasn't a surprise, but the flood of new perpetual calendars gave us pause. In this episode, we talk about whether anyone is actually using these functions. Simply put, we see a GMT as useful and a perpetual calendar as relatively useless. A GMT is potentially practical, but we bring up that it might be better behind a desk in a global job. A perpetual calendar is interesting and expensive, but does anyone keep them running consecutively to ensure they stay on track? Plus, is this type of complication a way to show off for the wearer and/or the brand? Have a listen, and tell us what you think. Do you or would you use either of these complications? Thanks for listening! If you have ideas for future shows, please let us know.
The Omega Speedmaster is a piece of human ingenuity that played a crucial role in one of mankind's greatest achievements. This is more than just a watch; it's a symbol of precision, reliability, and a legacy that transcended its original purpose. Now, let's journey through time and space to explore how this iconic timepiece became part of history.
Welcome back to Fratello On Air! This week, we tackle the second half of our discussion on vintage chronographs. We get into the weeds in this episode, so we hope you like it nerdy!Last week, we kicked off this discussion on vintage chronographs with our thoughts on why we find these watches so alluring. We mentioned racing, the space race, and other daring feats, along with how chronographs were present during many of these activities. Now we're ready to go into detail.HandgelenkskontrolleBecause we recorded this episode directly after the last, we skipped the usual banter. Don't worry; it will return next week! For the Handgelenkskontrolle, both of us are on task with our choices. Mike is wearing a Roamer Stingray Chrono Diver, one of the wildest vintage chronographs he owns. The case shape, quality, patina, and Valjoux 23 movement all make it a lovable piece. Balazs is wearing his Grana LE, a Hungarian Air Force piece with a lovely patina.Vintage Chronographs Part 2We begin with a discussion on the market for vintage chronographs. Then, we mention buying these watches, what to look out for, and what to expect during ownership. After all, these are relatively complex timepieces, so there is a greater potential for issues. Condition and originality are also worth considering. Chronographs contain many details, including specific pushers, hands, and dials. Finding replacements can be impossible. Finally, we mention key models and movements. The Valjoux 72, Lemania 321, EP 4, and El Primero 3019PHC are some of the calibers we discuss. The Breitling Chronomat, Gallet Decimal, Omega Speedmaster, and Zenith El Primero A386 come up during the show.As always, thank you for listening, and we hope you enjoy this episode. If you'd like us to come back and discuss our favorite vintage chronographs, just comment below. Of course, if you have suggestions for future shows, please let us know.
Welcome to another episode of Fratello On Air. This week, we begin a two-part series on vintage chronographs. Apparently, our listeners like hearing about these complicated watches that measure elapsed time. Note that the watch content starts after approximately 25 minutes.Vintage chronographs are a special category of watches. They're complex, often fragile, and strangely addictive! In this episode, we'll begin exploring what makes them so alluring. In our next installment, we'll get specific on models, movements, and what to look out for when buying.HandgelenkskontrolleOur episode begins with a discussion about Super Bowl LIX. We then discuss more TV shows. Mike mentions a recent visit to Roseberys, a London-based auction house, where he attended a preview and witnessed some interesting behavior. For the Handgelenkskontrolle, Mike is wearing his cherished Rolex Datejust 1600 with a blue dial. Balazs is enjoying his Rolex Submariner 5513, which he recently featured in a fantastic article.Vintage chronographsWe then begin discussing our main topic — why we are so attracted to chronographs. We began our collecting journeys wanting these types of watches but found ourselves attracted to pieces from different decades. Mike leaped into the '60s, while Balazs enjoyed the '40s, '50s, and '70s. We end our episode by mentioning iconic models, including the Omega Speedmaster, Rolex Daytona, Breitling Navitimer, Heuer Carrera, and Universal Genève Compax. Stay tuned for next week's podcast in which we uncover more details!Thank you for listening to this week's edition of Fratello On Air. As always, if you have suggestions for future shows, please let us know!
Ben Clymer grew up in a New York suburb, raised by middle-class public school teachers and enamored by his grandfather's swagger and style. An Omega Speedmaster, a gift from said grandfather, is the piece that captured his heart and sets his story in motion. A painstakingly shy student, he began to gain self-confidence in high-school and a need to differentiate in college. In 2008 he started a tiny blog, HODINKEE, a passion-project about watches that gained traction and sent him on a mission to get a Master's in Journalism. Since then, HODINKEE has led to creative collaborations with the most prestigious watch brands and famous rockstars, and grown into a multi-channel platform that has transformed the world of luxury watches. Want to learn more about watches? email us at support@chriswarnes.com We buy, sell, trade, consign, service, source and repair. Do you want to work with us on a timepiece? email us support@chriswarnes.com In this video, I'll share my personal picks for the best timepieces available around the $2,000 mark. Whether you're a seasoned collector or just getting started, these watches offer great quality, style, and wrist presence without breaking the bank. Here's the breakdown: 1. Tudor Black Bay M79540 Available in several dials, though the black dial is a standout for me. Slight resemblance to the iconic Submariner, but with its own unique character. At 41mm, it's a great size that's noticeable but not overpowering. Priced right around $2,000 on the secondary market. 2. TAG Heuer Formula 1 Date (WAZ2011) A classic with a deep connection to motorsports history. Bold wrist presence with a 43mm case size, larger than the Tudor. Easily recognizable design and available new for a bit over $2,000; used models can be found for less. 3. Oris Aquis Date (01 733 7789) Featuring a striking green dial and matching rubber strap. At 43.5mm, it's an eye-catching piece; Oris nails this shade of green. An underrated model from a brand that deserves more attention. 4. Breitling Endurance Pro Available in a range of colors and options, with sizes in both 44mm and 38mm (targeted at women). Powered by "Super Quartz," so keep in mind it's not automatic. Lightweight and great for sports or gym wear; priced around $2,000 new on the secondary market, and even lower pre-owned. 5. Omega Seamaster (2850.5) A vintage, mid-80s automatic model with a 50mm case. Omega has a long history of quality with the Seamaster line, making this a solid option if you can find one in good condition. These watches offer style, history, and a solid build at a relatively affordable price for luxury. Let me know in the comments which of these you'd pick or if there are others you'd recommend in this price range! Get your Dominate Your Day Book https://chriswarnes.com/book/

The CP7 Boys chat to none other than Robert Jan Broer, affectionately known as RJ, the Founder of Europe's leading watch enthusiast online platform Fratello. Not only is he the main man at Fratello, he is also the creator of Speedy Tuesday on social media and a huge Omega Speedmaster collector. No show with RJ can start without a Speedmaster kick off and boy do we get into some depth about how important it is in the watch icon hierarchy, and how many different models have been made, including a red Speedmaster Racing Michael Schumacher Edition, that Andy had handled which was owned by former Williams and McClaren Formula 1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya. You'll be blown away by what RJ thinks is the most important watch made in the history of the watch industry, as it's most certainly not what you think! The boys also get RJ's valuable personal yet experienced insight into what will be a future icon that hasn't quite made it to that "label" yet, and what he rules out as not quite making the cut, of course giving his reasons why. Listen in to RJ's opinion on what is collectible and what is not as he uses the very interesting Porsche 911 vs Porsche Boxster collectibility debate. Finally what brands need a bit more recognition due to merit and continuous improvement rather than hype? So let's talk Omega, Rolex, Cartier plus many more. For these answers, great insights and a lot of fun, buckle up and enjoy the ride as we mark this monumental show with one of the boys' most favourite and fun episodes so far.Check out Fratello at:www.fratellowatches.comCheckout Fratello Talks on YouTube at:https://youtube.com/@fratellomagazine?si=-1Nicl3_sUdsFMS-Or from your favourite Podcatcher. Roy Davidoff is no stranger to the watch community, so I figured it would be great to sit down, and understand more as to why that is. Roy's love for watches is no accident, having discovered his passion for them early on, eventually making a career out of it. However, luxury things are in Roy's blood, as his family were prominent wholesale gem dealers several decades ago to some of the biggest names in the game. After Roy's father gifted him his Omega Speedmaster, his love for the brand took off, earning him and his brother, conveniently named, Davidoff Brother's, a spot as a go to for the brand. They've sold as many as 150 Speedmasters in a year, and even wrote a book on them. They've since expanded their inventory across multiple brands and categories, and are still after the good stuff. At the end of the day, it's all about passion and their roots. So please enjoy, this is Roy Davidoff, for Collectors Gene Radio.Roy's Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/roydavidoff/Davidoff Brothers - https://www.instagram.com/roydavidoff/David Brothers Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/davidoffbrothers/?hl=en

Fratello On Air returns and this week we discuss watches from brands that everyone should own at some point on their collecting journey. Our ideas come across as more of a suggestion than an edict, though. We also touch on several other watch-related topics before the main event. Enjoy the show!Whether we're talking watches, cars, or any other item, we're not sure that anyone likes being told what they should or shouldn't buy. That's why our main topic today on watch brands is fairly light. We also spend a decent amount of time talking about last week's Cartier episode, the new white Speedmaster, and Balazs' watch-related travel in the USA.Handgelenks KontrolleWe kick off our episode with a mention of one of our listeners. He asked about aluminum luggage, which fed a conversation during last week's podcast. He also happens to be a stuntman who has worked with Tom Selleck and shared some news about Tom's Rolex GMT-Master. We move on to Cartier and how it must be one of the most polarizing brands in existence. Then, we transition to the white Omega Speedmaster, a watch that Balazs saw while traveling in Miami. As far as our wristwear, both of us are doing our best Magnum P.I. impersonations. Balazs has his trusty Rolex GMT-Master 1675 and Mike is rocking his later 16750.Brands everyone should own at least onceWe move on to our main topic regarding brands that everyone should own. The idea came from one of our listeners, so thank you very much! Balazs names some brands and watches that may come across as a surprise. The Bvlgari Octo Finissimo makes an appearance along with the Zenith El Primero. Then, he mentions Omega, Grand Seiko, Tudor, and Breitling. Mike brings in Parmigiani and Moser. However, despite the venom that exists among so many people, he can't resist bringing up Rolex. Pound for pound, they make a fantastic watch and if purchased at retail price, a Rolex is hard to beat.We hope you enjoyed today's show and thanks for listening! Feel free to let us know if you have any suggestions for future episodes!
Matt is joined by "Fratello On Air" cohost Balazs Ferenczi to catch up over a quick chat on the new white dial Omega Speedmaster Professional. This one is a quick and easy listen; stay all the way through to hear Balazs roast Matt over his very non-traditional cooking! lol and thanks for listening.

Fratello On Air is back with another listener-inspired show topic. This week, we talk about the three watches each of us would save from a burning house. Don't worry, we'll keep things light as a real fire is no joke. Of course, expect a bit of banter up front as we work up to the main theme.A fire at home is a terrible thought, so feel free to insert an emergency that would require a near-instantaneous choice of three watches from the collection. No more or no less can be taken. Of course, the family and pets are safe, so it's fine to focus on your prized possessions. We'll set a couple of rules below to help ensure we get to our absolute favorites.Handgelenks KontrolleBefore discussing the three watches that we would choose above all others, we turn to some brief banter. Never fear, we're going to do our best to keep it to ten minutes! Balazs mentions a great book called, "Soled Out: The Golden Age of Sneaker Advertising (A Sneaker Freaker Book)." He then mentions two television shows named, "Gangs of London," and "Godless." Mike brings up the "Mayor of Kingstown." As far as our wristwear, Mike is wearing a relatively new acquisition, the '30s Movado Curviplan. Balazs is sporting his gorgeous vintage Sinn Excelsior Park chronograph. It was the perfect watch for his recent visit to Sinn HQ.The three watches we'd saveIt's a tough topic to think about, but if we had to save three watches in our collection, what would we choose? Before we get to it, though, we are excluding any family heirloom watches if they aren't selected. The choices were tough and some familiar names made the list. A couple of surprises come along, though.Balazs:Angelus 215 L.E.Omega Speedmaster 145.022 TransitionalRolex GMT-Master Ref. 1675Mike:Breitling 765 CPPatek Philippe Calatrava Ref. 570Rolex Sea-Dweller "Great White" Ref. 1665What watches in your collection would you grab in a pinch? Thanks again to one of our listeners for suggesting this fun topic and thanks to everyone for listening. However, if you purchase a watch through Amit within a year, he does apply the $150 towards the purchase of a watch.
Have you ever wondered if you are going the wrong way with your watch collecting? Do you regret that first purchase or regret not making that first purchase you'd planned? Join the guys as they discuss this with the esteemed watch journalist and all-round watch nerd Martin Green, new resident gentleman of the show. Hear about the loves, regrets and downright stupid mistakes they all made on their watch buying journeys. Get to know Martin too as he discusses how deep into the rabbit hole he goes and why the Omega Speedmaster isn't necessarily for everyone. Can Andy build a new core collection with a new fresh approach and will Rolex be the new spark he needed? Why did Parm pass on the James Bond Omega Seamaster all those years ago and how happy was he with what he bought in its place? Most of all enjoy the passionate debate and chat that you will only find on the CP7 Podcast. So once again buckle up and enjoy the ride!Don't forget to check out the show notes on Instagram for a visual experience:@chrono_passion_7

A very Happy New Year from your co-hosts at Fratello On Air! We're back with our first episode of the year. 2024 is here and we discuss some of the trends we expect to see while sending out 2023. It was quite a year with plenty of drama and plenty of new watches. We hit the high and low points.Sending out 2023 - the year that was! In some ways, we're ready to move on, but it's worth taking some time to look back on some of the key events. We cover both vintage and new topics and then look ahead to what may come in 2024. Enjoy the show!Handgelenks KontrolleBefore sending out 2023, we take the time to discuss a recent article on Perezcope about the Rolex Space-Dweller. It's a worthwhile article and will certainly raise your eyebrows! Then, it's on to the Handgelenks Kontrolle. Balazs is at home in Hungary and sporting his vintage Grand Seiko 5646-7010. It's a great all-arounder that is getting plenty of holiday period wrist time. Mike has opted for a watch he hasn't worn in some time, the Omega Speedmaster 1957 Reissue. The watch is paired with a modern Forstner Komfit JB mesh bracelet.Sending out 2023We come to our main topic of sending out 2023 and focusing on 2024. Of course, we can't ignore some of the concerns that came to light on the auction circuit this year. We also discuss changing trends as they relate to dial colors, gold, smaller-sized watches, and the return of both simpler and square watches. For 2024, we question how the market will perform because it has certainly slowed down in the back half of the year. We expect "value for money" to play a strong role this coming year and, finally, we discuss the role of free-standing single-brand boutiques. We hope you enjoyed this episode and we look forward to being with you all year! As always, if you have ideas for future show topics, please feel free to let us know.
Welcome to another episode of Fratello On Air. This time, we talk about replacements for three of the most popular watches in existence: the Submariner, Speedmaster, and Calatrava. These watches aren't one-for-one options but are either meant to give off similar feelings or serve a similar purpose. Enjoy the ride!Sometimes, it's difficult to justify spending so much money on a watch. Pieces like the Rolex Submariner, Omega Speedmaster, and Patek Philippe Calatrava are pricey selections indeed. In this episode, we offer up some alternatives and talk about why we think they would work. There are some surprising choices here, so feel free to give us your thoughts on suitable replacements in the comments section.Kettle KiteYes folks, before we get onto the main topic of finding a Submariner pro-tem, we have a chat. We must warn you that the first 12 minutes or so contain a lot of shoe content. Then, we mention the recent Certina DS-7, a watch that Mike reviewed in a recent post. As far as the Kettle Kite, Mike is wearing his vintage Hamilton Military Chronograph as he celebrates two months of living in England. Balazs is sporting his Grand Seiko 5646-7010 with a Hi-Beat movement.Replacements for the Calatrava and moreNow, it's time for the main event. Essentially, both of us offer an alternative to a much-beloved, dare I say, iconic model. In order, we present the following options.Rolex Submariner:Squale Sub-39Rado Captain Cook 42mm in Stainless Steel with a black dialOmega SpeedmasterFortis Official Cosmonauts ChronographLongines Avigation ChronoPatek Philippe CalatravaIWC Cal. 89Grand Seiko SBGW253That's all for now folks! In today's episode, the Significant Watches gang recaps the June New York Auctions, including discussion of Roger Smith's Pocket Watch No. 2., a rare pink-on-pink Patek 1518, the Royal Oak and indie market, and much more. Thanks as always for listening, and please leave a review in your podcast player of choice.
If you own an Omega Speedmaster (or a Seamaster, or a Tudor diver, or...) then you are probably familiar with Forstner Bands. Forstner makes a variety of high quality aftermarket steel bracelets- some of which are inspired by classic vintage bracelet designs- for a wide range of sport watches. In this episode, we share some first impressions of a set of Forstner Bands bracelets sent in for review (spoiler alert: they're rad!) and photography. We also debrief the 100th running of the LeMans 24hr race, and chat about the new Daytona Cosmograph that Rolex produced to commemorate the event. Finally, Gregg has a new watch alert that might interest the guys from the "Whiskey and Watches Podcast"!

Fratello On Air is back with another episode and this time we talk about whether it's worth consolidating to one great watch versus having two (or more) really good watches. Of course, your definition of a great and good may vary, but we think you get the gist.Is it worth owning one great watch or is variety the spice of life if it occurs at a slightly lesser level? That's our question today from one of our great listeners from Finland who goes by "zenithist" on Instagram. It's a tough question and while we may not have the perfect answer, we debate the possibilities nonetheless.Handgelenks KontrollePrior to talking about boiling it down to one great watch or not, we hit the news. There's a recent visit to the Seiko boutique for some "routine" servicing, a touch of sneaker talk, and some new watches. We discuss the new Credor Goldfeather, the Seiko Prospex Speedtimers, and the Yema x Alpine Endurance Team watches made for the 100th running of Le Mans. When it comes to our wrists, Balazs is wearing his Omega Speedmaster 145.022 "transitional" with a lovely step dial. Mike is wearing his 1964 Seiko Liner 46999, a watch that will be up for review soon enough. One great watch? It's a really tough question that our listener poses — do you consolidate a couple of really nice watches in order to buy a more prestigious watch? The example that we were given is a tough one. The Tudor Black Bay 58 and the Tudor Prince Date-Day have been tossed out as possible trade subjects. What's the upscale bounty? Well, none other than the small but mighty Rolex Explorer. Mike is firmly in the camp of consolidation. Then again, the 14270 Explorer is one of his favorites. Balazs, on the other hand, plays devil's advocate. He likes a bit of variety and the ability to change size. Where do you fall in this argument? Thanks for listening to the latest episode. As always, feel free to hit us up with any show ideas that you might have.
Fratello On Air returns with more listener questions. This time we take on selling practices from brands and attempt to respond to yet another Speedmaster question. Enjoy the ride!Yes, we are back with more listener questions and this time we take on a two-part question that revolves around selling practices by brands. There's also some more talk about the cherished Omega Speedmaster and its fan base. It's another candid discussion where no punches are pulled, so turn it up!Handgelenks KontrolleWe kick things off with a bit of a weekend recap and then get right into watches. We talk about the upcoming Argon release and a new Nivada diver. Then, it's time for Handgelenks Kontrolle. Mike is wearing a '60s Rado Starliner that features a "water sealed" case back with seahorses just like the Captain Cook of the same era. Balazs is rocking his Speedmaster 145.022 "transitional," a lovely piece that looks like it has a caliber 321.Selling PracticesWe received a query from a listener regarding a small microbrand that decided to sell unsold watches from its first batch at the recent Windup show in California. The brand did this instead of fulfilling the orders of some patient customers who ordered as part of a second batch. Was this a good idea? We debate the good and the bad. Then, we discuss whether brands can take action to prevent flipping. We don't have all the answers, but we do like the selling practices of a brand like Oak & Oscar. They pledge to always offer their newest releases to their existing customers. Finally, we talk about whether Speedmaster fans are the most fanatical in the watch world. We hope you enjoyed this latest episode and thanks for listening! Feel free to let us know if you have an idea for a future episode.
Welcome back to another episode of Fratello On Air. This week, we discuss a recent visit to the Swatch Group in the Frankfurt area. We also respond to a listener's question about the beloved Omega Speedmaster. Enjoy!Yes, Balazs and I were on the move and managed to visit the Swatch Group in their offices near Frankfurt. We've also received a number of reader questions that we'll attempt to answer over the next several episodes. Our first question is about the Speedmaster and it's a good one.Handgelenks KontrolleWe begin our episode with some sneaker talk as Balazs mentions an upcoming re-release of the Nike Huarache that Kobe once wore. Mike mentions the newly announced Yema Urban Field, a cool series of field watches with loads of optionality. Next, we get to the Handgelanks Kontrolle and Balazs is debuting his new MING 17.09 in burgundy! Mike is wearing his vintage Gruen Ocean Chief on a Forstner Klip bracelet.Visiting Swatch Group and a reader questionOur visit to Swatch Group was truly a pleasure. The fine folks in Eschborn shared a number of watches with us from Rado, Hamilton, Tissot, Mido, and more! We share the highlights while remarking that it's always nice to see watches in person. Finally, we answer a listener's question about the Omega Speedmaster. The question is simple — what's the big deal about the Speedmaster anyway?Thank you for listening and as always, if you have any ideas for future shows, don't hesitate to contact us!

Some watch brands never seem to change, while others are constantly trying to re-invent what they do. That's the topic for this episode of HODINKEE Radio and I asked Jack, Danny, and Cole to weigh in with their perspectives on the concept of consistency vs. variety in watch design. As you can imagine, it's another loose and chatty episode that dips into the "Rolex method", brands that aren't afraid to break the mold, how many bands Greenday has actually been, and a whole bunch more. Thanks so much for listening, we'll catch you in the comments at Hodinkee.com.
