The Final Four is set with a clash of Blue Bloods, UNC/Duke and Villanova/Kansas, previewing each matchup; the Saint Peter's Peacocks are the greatest Cinderella team in March Madness history; Discussing the NFL's new OT rule; the Oscars are pretty lame now, but Will Smith smacking Chris Rock set the Internet on fire, and then he won Best Actor. Welcome back to the Bill Bradley Collective, where this week we reward the best and worst in sports and politics over the last year with the 2nd annual Grover Awards. First a troika of red carpet rants; as Zak celebrates the inspired Cinderella run of Jersey City's own Saint Peter's Peacocks to the NCAA Tournament's elite eight; Ed rails in the direction of South Dakota governor Kristi Noem and her contribution towards the torpedoing of abortion rights; and finally Andrew considers the disposability of college athletes following a gruesome season-ending leg injury suffered Villanova's Justin Moore. From there it is on to the podium to hand out some well-deserved hardware. If you're new to the Grovers, let's bring you up to speed. Loosely inspired by the other prominent award ceremony happening this week, the Grovers set out to honor the best that the intersectionality of sports and politics had to offer in the last twelve months, including individual awards for a leading man, woman and breakthrough, and also a Collective Best Picture-type prize for a best event/movement. While the Oscars and Razzies operate separately in rewarding the best and worst in the film industry, the Grovers endeavor to both celebrate the best and desecrate the worst. Sometimes the race to the bottom is the most compelling of all, and so we have figurative statuettes to hand out for our worst leading man and woman and the worst event/development/movement spanning sports and politics. Fear not, as though some awards were debated contentiously, no GI Jane jokes were made and no palm strikes were thrown by any of your hosts.
History was made in Austin as Scottie Scheffler picked up his third win in 43 days and is now the #1 ranked golfer in the world. Hosts Alex Lauzon and Michael Russell ponder if Sheffler will add a major to his win total this year, and Alex breaks down everything he saw behind the scenes at the WGC Dell Match Play (1:47). The LPGA had their last tune-up ahead of this weekend's first major, and it resulted in Atthaya Thitikul winning on the second playoff hole (9:50). Tiger Woods is monopolizing the headlines as he is spotted out on the course again and is planning a trip to Augusta ahead of next week's Masters. Will he be playing? Alex and Michael give their best guesses (11:44). This weekend, Michael will be volunteering at the Korn Ferry's Club Car Championship, and is ready to give a full account from his vantage point on the par 3 12th (14:59). The PGA Tour stays in Texas for the Valero Texas Open, and this typically quiet tournament will include big names this year, like Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau (16:30). In Tuned In, it's all about the slap heard 'round the world at the Oscars from Will Smith, but that didn't stop Alex from still enjoying some sinful YouTube rabbit holes (18:07). This week's guest is Hagan Parkman, an Army Reservist and communication specialist for the Korn Ferry Tour, shares her love of the game, her time in the reserves, and how she got to be on The Amazing Race with her mom (22:52). March Madness took a sad turn this weekend as the Saint Peter's Peacocks couldn't keep it going, but that won't stop Michael from looking forward to Coach K's potentially embarrassing finale (50:01). As the guys end with #AlwaysEndWithFood, Alex shares his love of buffets, while Michael ponders who has the best fast food burger (54:21).
